Alaïa Bay in Sion

Beware of rip-offs!! Surf package booked with 5 sessions. Validity was only 1 year. Had to sit out due to injury. No credit or refund despite litigation. They claim that it is not a voucher (legal validity 5 years). This is not an isolated case (see other comments). Unfortunately they only care about money, for me it has nothing to do with "surf vibes" - I definitely won't be coming back! I'd rather go to the sea again. Bye

It's a shame to dissolve the ASC club in this way. To no longer offer family packs and to no longer consider your loyal customers anyway. Certainly being one of your very first customers, I am now one of those who are disappointed and disillusioned with the turn this business is taking. So there is no longer any spirit here, other than that of doing business. Understandable but regrettable.

The website is really bad for booking a session. The facility is otherwise beautiful, modern and great for learning to surf. However, the price is very high.

I have already started the beginner course, and it's important to know what the tag is. Am Tag davor habe ich mich per Email gemeldet, dass ich auf Grund der Grippe nicht kommen kann, und ob ich den Gutschein an einem anderen Tag einlösen kann. This time of war is 18. October 2023. If you have already sent your email, we will send you another message. Sehr schade. I booked a beginner's course and was sick on the day in question. The day before I emailed to say I couldn't come due to the flu and to see if I could use the voucher another day. It was October 18, 2023. Since then, I have asked five times by email and still have not received a response. It's really a shame.

The facility is really great for surfing and because the facility is unique in our area, we keep coming back. Unfortunately, we also have an ambivalent impression of it Operator... if you're not surfing yourself, you can hardly watch your colleagues because you're not allowed into the pool area as a non-surfing visitor; I'm also not used to the strict ban on dogs in Switzerland. I'm curious to see whether the operator's concept will prevail in the long term.

If you can afford to surf there, you had better surf elsewhere...

Alaia Bay is truly a fantastic place to make progress in surfing. The facility is top-notch, and the instructors are all very friendly and highly skilled. Especially Sergio, with whom I had two hours of lessons, was extremely motivated to share his knowledge and made a great effort to focus on each individual, despite the large group. A big thank you once again to all the staff who made my weekend enjoyable and, more importantly, a successful learning experience. I had a blast and look forward to returning. Just the prices... they could really be a bit lower, especially for those of us who are not from Switzerland and have a different salary. ;)

Alaïa bay is a beautiful experience and you should try it at least once! However, this experience will cost you no little money (130-170 per 1h session) which makes it difficult to repeat it often. On the negative side, the booking system on their website is very difficult: many sessions per day, mixed between teaching classes and practice sessions, at 3 different prices ranges depending on the season. Also the experience with the teachers is mixed. Some are superficial and give very little tips. Here, we got lucky with Sergio who was able to give very personalized suggestions (before and after the sessions!) making our two sessions particularly instructive. You can tell he's very passionate and experienced in teaching. The restaurant is also very good, the pizza and the Thai food is really abundant and delicious with a price average of 50-60chf. One of us was disappointed by the poke and by the smoothies being too expensive.

Great facilities and perfect place to improve your surfing skills. The instructors are fantastic. Special thanks to Momo and the one with the goatee (sorry forgot your name!).

Nice location with fine food, unfortunately a bit expensive. Surfing is fun and the guides and service staff are friendly and helpful. So the surfing spirit can be felt even without the sea. It was a cool experience and is recommended!

Me and my children always enjoy coming to Alaia Bay. The facility is great and the restaurant is also very good. Unfortunately a bit far away from Zurich, only worth it for 2 or more days.

I had an exceptional time at Alaïa Bay. Our preparatory meeting was led by Hugo, a seasoned surf guide from the surf school. He provided straightforward and invaluable instructions, peppered with a touch of humor – it ensured we got off on the right foot! The surf session wasn’t packed, allowing each of us ample opportunities to catch waves. Plus, there was plenty of time to rest between sets when needed. David, our session guide, was a tremendous help. He offered pointers on the ideal take-off spots, when to commence paddling, and was always there with words of encouragement. The entire experience was infused with professionalism, smiles, and an abundance of positive energy. I wholeheartedly recommend the Alaïa Bay Surf School to anyone keen on learning to surf, honing their skills, or simply seeking a thrilling time in the water. I'll definitely return, and my gratitude goes out to everyone who contributed to making it a memorable experience!

Coming to Alaia is treating yourself to a magical break... a trip to the ocean without a 10-hour drive, arriving in a magnificent setting, perfect waves, turquoise water and a warm welcome both at reception and at the surf school. Having the chance to have advice from super professional coaches, like David and Loïc, always smiling, fishing for a good vibe. Surfing becomes accessible. What luck !!! Thanks to the whole team !!!!

I went to Alaïa Bay last weekend. It was great to improve my surfing skills in a pool. Furthermore the place is excellent. I drank my beer and enjoyed the view of the Alps at the same time. I would go there again. I also have to mention the reception staff because they were very friendly and helpful.

I recently visited Alaia in Sion on September 10, 2023 and I must say that the concept is truly exceptional. The place offers a unique surfing experience and the restaurant is very nice. Although the fees associated with artificial waves may justify the high rates, it can make the location financially inaccessible for many surfers. One point of improvement would be to have a receptionist who was a little warmer and more cheerful. She does her job, but for such an important position, she could add a more welcoming touch. After all, it represents the first impression of the establishment and that could really make a difference. Unfortunately, this might influence my decision to return in the future.

An ordering site that never works. Waiters who don't want to take orders and don't know how to say hello. An establishment that calls itself chic but even at the McDonald's we are served at the table

After a morning of riding a road bike, the pad thai and the beer have come into their own. The rock catching its waves in the artificial pinwek gives it a roll. The place to be in Sion, because the truth is, every time I come here it seems like I've been put in a pot. How hot you are, this looks like Extremadura and not Switzerland.

The overall experience has been great. The children had a great time in the surf lessons. Thank you Pedro for your attention and advice.

Returning to the Bay after a first visit in 2021 after the opening. This place has lost all its soul, surf atmosphere 0, it looks like we are arriving in a gym, the furniture, the pool and the building are deteriorating at high speed, and the maintenance is average. Too bad because at the beginning there was a real surf atmosphere. The only positive point was the good humor of the few coaches we met. Take control of yourself please. Make this place magical again!

I have been lucky enough to go to Alaïa a couple of times this year. I have tried different sessions, Waikiki the best! Thanks Pedro for the corrections and advice during the sessions. They have motivated me and helped me improve my surfing, thank you a lot!

During our second visit to this unlikely place, my wife and I noticed a deterioration of the place and a lack of rigor. Of course, the ability to surf is a plus, and it's nice. However, the quality of the wave can be debatable between champions, but overall it's an incredible experience. The catering is quite expensive, but the quality is there. The bar, on the other hand, displays exorbitant prices, although offering good quality products. Overall, the staff is friendly, although cracking a smile can sometimes be difficult. However, what shocked us the most was the advanced state of degradation of the place. The dirt, the lack of respect from people who enter the locker room with wet shoes, for example, show that rigor has been neglected. The rusting tables, the damaged restaurant equipment... It looks like the place is already 20 years old. ATTENTION !!! With the prices charged, this place should be impeccable and stay that way. It is necessary to know how to manage customers who indulge in anything and everything.

Took away 2 stars for the most annoying revolving surf board installation EVER! You can’t sit inside without going crazy! Just turn that thing off please! Otherwise great!

Great fun! Excellent coaches, good food, amazing views. We took 5 beginner sessions here and they were all very good. Coaches make sure you catch waves and improve at your own pace. Thank you Momo and Sergio especially, and all the other coaches.

My sons were very satisfied with the surf sessions in Alaia. The complex is impressive, very large, everything is designed to make life pleasant for surfers and their families: shop, toilets, restaurants, rest and work space, overhead misters (in case of high heat), showers, wifi …you can stay there for hours. The staff is smiling and very friendly. The restaurant's dishes are very good and varied. The only downside is that people are allowed to smoke on the terrace where we eat.

The vibe is great but please do something about the food!!! Such a shame to pai this price witch I wouldn't mind if the quality was good. But when you order a bowl and it takes more than 30 minutes you think ok fine this must be mouthwatering. Very disappointing I order a bowl with quinoa it came with rice plus the vegetables all you could see they were very old and on top that avocado.....

Amazing vibe, needs help with the F&B side.

We came with our kids (5-7 years old) my wife and I had back to back sessions. It was a great, we enjoyed. But it could have been even better, infrastructure was lacking for kids. For example stuff to play with or a kids corner or even better a kids minding area. You don’t realize how much families with kids are a gold mine, we are worth your investment.

We were on the terrace. Exorbitant price which is not at all justified. And there is no table service so the price should logically go down…. In addition the waiters do not clean the tables, they are not clean nor the cards, and when I went to get my ice cream, it was soup...

It's an incredible place. So improbable to find the sea in the middle of mountains and sea surfers!!! There is a subscription to take out to enjoy the place otherwise you can see the show from the twin fin terrace

The location is splendid within a park (paid access to the car park, no dogs allowed). The structure is clean and cared for in every detail. There are really a lot of people and for the cost I thought I would find a slightly More guided, while instead it's more a question of batches of surfers per shift (all the ones I saw were full, 4). The cost for a 60 minute lesson is decidedly high so it is very important to choose the right level so as not to ruin your day. Bearing in mind that the waves are quite technical and you have to catch them a short distance from a concrete wall, I recommend humility in evaluating your level (I missed it 😬alas); I actually chose the Malibu waves, but they were definitely more challenging than I thought after reading up on their website and videos on YT. Waikiki would have been great. Unfortunately I didn't have much support from the coaches who, despite the fact that they are lessons, are more like lifeguards who are careful to ensure that no one gets hurt, the Rules are respected and everyone gets out of their boxes to make room for others. In the Overall I'm not sure if I will return or not.

Went to Alaia Bay today and was misinformed at the reception when deciding my level and what session to join, I recommend the staff at the reception receive some training in surf knowledge and what level of surfers each of your sessions actually have in them. Left today very disappointed. Also the avacado toast was very average for the price, you’d expect actual avacado for the price they charge and not supermarket mush.

Relaxing, feels like you're at the beach

One of the 7 wonders of Switzerland! If you are going for the first time, I would not recommend using your own board, even if you are a more advanced surfer. The wave is technical. It takes 1 or 2 sessions to get used to it. Beware that the take off is 1 meter away from a straight concrete wall. I've seen first-timers' hardboards slamming into the wall on more than occasion. Ouuuch.

Service at the terrace bar very disappointing, one could say arrogant, dishonest.

A big thank you for privatizing a parking lot, previously free and used by a lot of families, and for extorting 5 francs from them to access the entire Domaine des Iles for even an hour...It really makes me want to come. spend at home. There are obviously no small profits in life, and the greed of some people is limitless.

They are scammers, you pay 160€/hour to surf here and they made booties mandatory. Also it’s not advertised on the booking page and on the italian version of the website it’s only written in French!

Small downside, in high heat, it would be nice to have shade, especially since there are canvases that could be unrolled. Another small negative point is that the prices are a little high. Otherwise, the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. Whether it's the wave pool or the bar/restaurant, everything is great.

I wanted to redeem a voucher, so I called by phone and the employee didn't really help me directly on the phone. The money was deducted rather than the voucher being booked correctly into the system. I've been in email traffic for 2 weeks now and I'm very disappointed because I don't live near Egg and this will be a one-off event. Alaia is probably only concerned about the money, not the customer service or the joy of water sports... I have now canceled the session and booked it again with the voucher code, hoping that I can redeem it now! Unfriendly - where is the surfing mentality? Takes away the joy of going there..

Dear Alaïa team, it should be your goal that your clients leave satisfied. We spent so much money for surf and food and wetsuits and season upgrade etc. and we are unfortunately not happy at all with your service. The webpage is not working for reservations. Those at the phone have obviously no idea about surf and the people at the reception treat you arrogantly. I have been surfing for more than 20 years, I have never been treated badly like at Alaïa Bay. The pool (left side) was broken and you only could surf it with surf shoes. Later we realised that some people had apparently the right to surf it without… Better spend your money in a flight to the Ocean and enjoy the real waves.

First visit. (We come from Northern Germany) Facility and coordination, planning, top. However, the price is already very high!!! A plus to the Moroccan coach MoMo! Gives good tips, actively helps! Best man! Can the other trainers learn a lesson from this? My personal feeling as a beginner is that the setup from getting in and paddling to take off follows a clear line or rules of the organizer. Also makes sense in terms of security etc. But it's hard to beat 16 people through it for an hour as a beginner, or you have to beat yourself through it in order to use this one, quite expensive hour. A bit of variance would be great in the sessions (starting position, etc.). But the whole thing has to be paid for, the more people per hour, the cash register rings. Finally, riding the wave on the course puts you in a good mood when you then have a sense of success (many thanks again to MoMo!) Bye then …

Everything is grossly overpriced. 10.- for two tiny pancakes. You now also pay 5.- for the parking space, even if you are only there for a short time. The staff at reception is also rather unfriendly.

Surfing in Valais, exceptional! The terrace overlooks the pools but also the castles of Sion and the mountains, it's just magnificent! on the other hand we didn't understand straight away that we had to queue to order/pay and we waited a long time. The dish (beef stir-fry) was very good. Superb setting, young and dynamic atmosphere.

I was there a few days ago and the experience was disappointing. My level is advanced beginner and although I catch small waves in the ocean (1, 1.5 m), my experience in Waikiki was very discouraging. The experience is crowded and overwhelming. In the line-up they put everyone in single file and gave some contradictory advice, such as where or how far to start paddling (it's very different from the sea because the wave almost falls on you and you only have to paddle a couple of times, but still, you don't pick it up). We were many people (15). There are 20 sets of waves scheduled (18 waves per set, then there is a pause, which makes everyone crowd together again at the start), but, for a reason that was not explained to us, we only made it to 19. In total they were about 50 minutes, no, 55. I had some good advice from the instructors, but sometimes they pushed you and sometimes they didn't, so you didn't really know how to position yourself. I would always advise coming during the week or in the low season, never on a summer weekend, like I did. During the beginner's schedule you also miss many waves because people fall, because they have to let one pass... In short, the experience has helped me to know that I do not plan to repeat on an artificial wave: advanced surfers, Maybe they can practice tricks, but for beginners who want to advance it is not a good option. Furthermore, you don't learn to read the sea and those things that are really important when you go out into nature, which is what it's all about, after all. And then, paying for the parking, paying for the wetsuit, paying for the board! it is a shame. In all surf lessons around the world, the board is included.

I was on Waikiki left wave which was lots of fun…although it rained. The instructors only checked for security in the water. I expected some useful hints. Very astonished to hear that dogs are not allowed “anywhere”, not even in the cafe. Totally surprised about this as it is common in Swiss restaurants to always allow dogs in outside areas(the cafe is and outside terrace). No mention anywhere on the webpage about this. My wife could therefore not watch and enjoy. Very disappointing!!

I had my first session at Alaia bay earlier this month. I had surfed before so I went for the waikiki session. We got a couple of good tips before going in but that was it. No more input during the session. Mid-session the instructors switched and as a group we got “scolded” for not exiting correctly, in a very rude manner, especially considering the fact that this was not previously communicated during the session. The same instructor was not giving us the space to take our own wave and was rushing to push us even when the timing was not right just to get as many people going as possible. We didn’t have the luxury of making our own choices in the waves. On top of that the instructors made sure they enjoy the session themselves by catching a few waves. Considering the price of that session I consider this treatment inconsiderate and disrespectful towards the customers. Another unpleasant topic is being told that there will be available media after the session which is not the case as noone informed us during the check in that this is a service on a testing state and after a call with a representative I was told that usually there’s no material for beginner sessions and that after all it’s free. This sounds as a joke considering how much we paid already for everything else, plus being differentiated according to the level for the perks of a service and Alaia bay not even being clear about the service itself and obviously misinforming us before the session. Honestly it’s such a nice place but the attitude of the people who are supposed to guide us in this experience is super disappointing.

With the price we pay, it would be cool if Alaia could share the video of the session filmed or register it on your account. Instead of proposing to become premium in surfline….👎

Wonderful place! Great vibes and very pleasant staff. My husband enjoyed every moment of his surfing session while i could enjoy the lovely restaurant onsite.

We (3 people) arrived from Ticino (3.5 hours by car) and were impressed by the facility: beautiful, functional, fairly well organized. We chose the beginner course even though we have been surfing in the ocean a few times before (quite some time ago). Simple introductory lesson and then 1h in the water with 12 people. Instructors explain well and give you the right inputs to improve. The waves are maybe a little underpowered, but for beginners they are fine. At the end small debriefing and then free water to drink at will. On the site you can download free footage of your runs. You can go up to the restaurant (even without a shirt, without flip-flops just like at the beach), and cosume different menus (again very good but the prices not very popular ...) ... do not try the iced coffee ... undrinkable. All in all a nice and pleasant day!!!

Sorry Verbier, sorry Chambéry. The coolest and trendiest place in Valais* is now Alaïa Bay... The terrace restaurant (order at the bar or online) has very good zic and is incredibly cool. The place is very well run with a chef for each specialty. For surfing it's a perfect wave that we have there. Bring a little coffee or a coke before and don't come on an empty stomach. (PS come one hour in advance) Violent physical effort for beginners. Otherwise seeing a surfer with an F18 taking off in the background and the Alps was a risky but (very) successful bet. Magnificent place to spend some money with the family, you won't regret it!

Would have give it a solid 5 stars if it wasn't for the sad attitude of a specific staff member. One of the teacher, Momo as he calls himself, almost ruined our experience. For the high price of 160.- for a beginner session, you expect good quality teaching. This coach was annoyed to be here, condescending as hell, and above all, rude and demeaning. We were a group of around 10 guests and we all felt the same. We were that close to cancel and ask for a refund. One advice if you want to try Alaïa bay: avoid Momo and go with any other coach. One advice for Alaïa bay's boss: check your staff. For 160.- per session, it's not ok at all to be treated like cattle by this dude.

It really depends on the coach. Momo was great, he completely convinced me and responded to our needs! :) 5 stars The second round with other coaches was catastrophic... The coaches gave few tips on the water and were often surfing and stuff on the train themselves. The distances were also hardly maintained...:(

Simply great and incredibly fun in the water and on the board

Excellent and the employers are kind, smiling and welcoming. We eat very well, great restaurant. And great Surf Alaïa beach. Very good cocktail.

Great for those who want to improve their surfing skills or relax and have fun with an introductory course. Not cheap but the place is very well thought out, a real little surf camp in the heart of the Swiss Alps.

Still the best option to surf in Switzerland and the vibe in the session with the coaches outside has always been very nice. However, I find customer service is deteriorating by the time. I signed up for 3 sessions in one day (peak time so you can roughly calculate how much that cost) and surprisingly I was asked to arrive 1.5 hours before the session. I emailed to ask if it would be ok to arrive later as I anyways had already been many times to the briefing of that wave. No reply until after my sessions were actually over and the briefing only started about 20 minutes before the actually surf. The reply from alaia bay which was anyways too late and after I don’t know how many calls attempts, was that they noticed I had already asked a few times to skip/be late at the briefing and next time I should make sure I arrive on time. No mention of “we’ll let the coach of your session know as you have surfed this wave many times and h e might unlock the free surfing option”. Hopefully by being a returning customer, I get better conditions instead of being told off and not helped. Hope customer service can improve to the levels expected by the price paid for the facilities.

3 days ago I had 2 surf sessions with my girlfriend. Alaia Bay is misleading when uploading pre-session photos for video access: "You can skip this step if you wish; in this case, your videos cannot be linked to your account and it will be more difficult for you to access them after your surf session. " We did not uploaded photos as we were in rush and accessing videos from our session is not DIFFICULT, it is IMPOSSIBLE. Additionally the media panel is misleading: "No videos/photos for this session... please come back later". I acted after 3 days waiting for some access to videos. I wrote to customer service assuming something is wrong and we received such a message from customer service: """ Hello Konrad, Thank you for your mail and your interest in Alaia Bay. Unfortunately if you haven't uploaded the pictures of your face, it is not going to be possible to get access to the videos. I'm sorry for that and you'll be able to do it next time you come to visit ! """" Very disappointing, and can break all the good mood after surfing at this place :( Update: I received a hint I could download videos from Surfline website, which was somehow relieving :)

- i booked my session over the phone , as a birthday gift to my boyfriend. I told that he has a right leg in the front. Instead receptio made reservation to the incorrect side of the pool. I asked if we can rebook but they said „no, do you have a proof”? Very bad customer experience, - No dogs allowed, this is really unacceptable in 2023 having in mind the concept of this place

Top-notch wavegarden with modern facilities and a friendly staff. Food in very good too, especially the pizza. I recommend every surfer to pay a visit!

Make money and that's it!!!! Very disappointed by AlaïaBay. No family spirit and no discussion possible to postpone a session so that our children can do a surf session together....No commercial spirit...make money at all costs!!! We won't set foot there again... (I'm marking a star out of obligation but it's not even worth it....)
