Narrow-minded, opinionated and unreasonable I have been visiting the Bären in Utzenstorf as a couple or with friends for decades and the waiter “Ueli” knows me very well. We were actually mostly at peace and always ate there in the visiting room or on the veranda when the weather was nice. Another location would never have been an option for me; we would have rather postponed the date. I was very disappointed on my last visit. However, because it was an invitation, I didn't complain at the time. I still have to catch my breath afterwards. The allumettes were rock hard and the beef fillet was swimming in the blood-soaked béarnaise sauce. With good meat storage at this price, this is unacceptable. Now to today's event: On Wednesday morning I personally made a reservation with Mr. Thommen in the visiting room for the coming Saturday evening and wanted a table, not at the entrance. The reservation was accepted and confirmed to me. When we arrived at the restaurant on time, we were welcomed by Ms. Thommen, but not shown to the visiting room. I then said that I had made a reservation personally with Mr. Thommen. Shortly afterwards the boss appeared and claimed that I had not made a reservation in the visiting room because it was already occupied at the time. There is no question of an apology or a misunderstanding. From a high horse he said that if I didn't like the assigned place, I should just leave. We did that and at the same time turned our backs on the bear forever. Of course, not only we, but also countless friends of ours will no longer take a step there. Addendum: Apparently not read everything or overlooked it, like when making the reservation. A menu was also rated according to the “stars”. Confirms what I described.

I was invited to "Z'Nacht" at the Bären restaurant last night and I was totally thrilled! I have rarely eaten as well as I did last night! The meat (with the Bernaise sauce) was simply terrific. The side dishes were perfect and the dessert was absolutely delicious! The serving staff very friendly and professional! Top!!

As a homesick woman, I was once again able to enjoy eating at the beloved Bären after a long time. It was a joy for the heart, eyes and palate: lots of attention to detail. The service is excellent and the hosts are personally present. I appreciate the history and tradition of the restaurant - as well as the young, market-fresh cuisine. Absolute recommendation.

I was invited to a party in the Bären more than ten years ago. I had fond memories of the place. I was recently invited to a party again. The well-maintained, traditional house has lost none of its charm. From the outside it doesn't look half as big as it actually is. Anyone planning a larger event will feel comfortable there. The food is both traditional if that's what you want, but I would prefer the more refined dishes that are really beautiful and, above all, very well prepared with a little something extra. Nice restaurant in a sophisticated ambience. We reserved online a week in advance and were able to sit outside in the garden when the weather was nice. The service is very friendly and attentive, even though the restaurant was quite full on a Friday evening. The food was tasty, but the best thing about the three-course meal was the desserts. The apple cake is a dream, although relatively expensive at CHF 21 for the small portion. We paid CHF 190 for 2 people including aperitif, glass of wine, coffee and tip. One star deducted for the fact that the lighting is inadequate in the evening, as the candle on the table is not enough. And for the rather long waiting times (at least 45 minutes between starter and main course) and for the high price of the apple pie. All in all, recommended, especially for special occasions.
