Café 3692 in Grindelwald

The place was praised on many blogs but did not live up to the expectations. We reached at 11 AM. They didn’t serve any food. The tall lady there was painfully rude and racist too. Service is horrible, they don’t care if you want to eat or not. Over pricey. In short don’t go there. Avoid at any cost. The positive reviews are fake. It deserves 0 star.

The tall waitress there was extremely rude. The menu was not in english and when we asked her what food was available she just gave a cold stare. She could have at least helped with what food was available, but no. We asked for hot chocolate but just got milk and a sachet of chocolate powder that we had to mix ourself but was charged 7CHF for it. After 10 minutes she came and said that the table was reserved and that we had to leave in an hour, which again she could have informed in the beginning.

“Hidden gem” is right as other reviewers have stated. This is easily worth the short bus ride from town. Awesome views, food, service - you name it. Even toys out for kids during our breakfast.

Truly a hidden gem (I went there, "hiking" ~15 mins from the city center and gosh it was tiring lol). They served homemade cakes and I tried their blueberry tart, which was amazing! Especially when eaten together with the whipped cream. They also had this giant cappucino (alplen cappucino if im not mistaken), not served in a cup, but in a soup bowl for CHF 7-ish. Nice pairing with the cake, although a bit too light for my liking. Overall a nice experience, will def pay another visit when I'm back in Grindelwald!

Four of us dined here. Café 3692 not only impresses with its cozy furnishings and atmosphere, but also with super friendly staff who gave us charming and expert advice and service. The menu is small, but well thought out with creative and tasty combinations - and sustainability by favoring regional products is not forgotten. Very fine food, great dessert - overall: highly recommended.

An absolute must on every visit to Grindelwald

Exceptional lunch with my two adult children today. The food was fresh, very well prepared, exceptional presentation and delicious. The atmosphere is cozy, warm and very well thought out. Definitely one of the best meals we've had in a a long time in every way from the drinks to the entrees to the coffees and finally the desserts. We'll be back later this week!

Unfortunately the atmosphere was very hostile, waitresses came across blunt and rude, we arrived at 10:50, they wouldn’t serve us breakfast which they said stoped at 11:00, also they have no menus in English, and no diary alternatives, not worth the bad morale, go somewhere else!

We enjoyed the hunting menu at 3692 last Friday. It was excellent, original and a treat. Our friends said it was the best they've ever eaten. The staff is simply great, the owners treated us like a king, everyone is extremely friendly and down-to-earth. Price/performance is great and you simply have to experience the ambience. Had a bad experience there. Great views with decent food but very bad and rude service. Do not go there as you would not feel welcome. Its not worth it. Switzerland is beautiful and there are multiple places to have food with a great view. But in the case you did feel like getting a picture of this place just get a drink take a picture and scoot off so that you dont have to deal with the rude service.

Be sure to ask about the history of this cafe. Amazing people, amazing food.

What an incredible experience in Grindelwald! The cow bells lulling across the way, sun rising gently over the mountains, glacier in view, lovely golden retriever chilling next to his owner’s table. Delicious cake, excellent coffee, beautiful decor in a classic, fresh & timeless vibe. Service is friendly, competent & efficient. Looking forward to the next visit! And that sugar dispenser is amazing! 🤩

A nice cafe but the hype in the reviews is a bit exaggerated. The food is good, service is nice, atmosphere is nice but right on the street.

The strong reviews for here are fully justified - the food is superb. We grabbed a bus up here on our last day in town and enjoyed a wonderful fresh breakfast just before they shut for food service for the morning. Everything we ate felt local, vibrant and fresh and tasted great - we enjoyed a mix of fruit, pastries, fresh juice, cheeses and bacon. Some really tasty and interesting cheeses including one with a coffee rind - very different! I can fully see why people have said they came back for dinner after discovering this in other reviews - and if we'd had the time we'd have done the same. For non-native speakers, be aware there was no English menu but a Google Translate of the menu helped us get the gist. Staff were super - welcomed us and squeezed us in for food, with quick service. Wish we could have stayed longer - the views were incredible and it was brilliant to find a nice quiet spot away from town. Be aware - it is up a very, very steep hill. We had to grab a bus due to the hot summer weather but thankfully buses run from right outside directly back into the central bus station. Highly recommend.

this place was recommended to me by a friend so i had high hopes for it. we had the breakfast set and two cups of coffee. as we were seated outdoors, by a stroke of luck a bee flew right into the cup of coffee of my partner and died inside. when he told the staff about it she told him in a rude tone “well what do you want me to do about it?” we’re a bit taken aback by this and maybe it’s due to cultural difference, but from where we’re from the staff would usually offer to make us a new cup of coffee. granted we did choose to sit outdoors so these things can happen. anyway she did not make a new cup of coffee and merely removed the bee and passed the cup of coffee back. we weren’t going to drink that of course so we ordered a new cup of coffee. overall the food was good, the coffee was great, and the staff didn’t charge us for that second cup of coffee we ordered but her attitude had already dampened our mood despite how nice the view was.

Beautiful terrace, fine brunch, the price is right except for the add-ons. CHF 6.00 for three small pieces of cheese and CHF 7.00 for 5 pieces of dried meat is a lot even by Swiss standards. Unfortunately the German waitress wasn't friendly at all even though our group showed her nothing but friendliness. Attention and friendliness can definitely be worked on.

After hiking down first, we stopped here to rest. Got their apricot sour cream cake which tasted divine! The cafe also has wonderful views, allowing us to unwind in the picturesque setting. The ambiance was charming, and the staff were exceptionally welcoming and attentive. A delightful experience that made our day even sweeter!

A very unusual café with really good food and very 😋 delicious cake.

Not very often I’ve been to a restaurant where the kitchen wasn’t open and wouldn’t be open “for the rest of the day” middle of the day Saturday. Maybe call ahead before you make the trip because it’s a crapshoot if they will have any food available.

I would give zero for service if there was an option. The cafe view is lovely and food is decent however I had a very bad experience with respect to service. As mentioned in other reviews our server was tall lady who was weird. She literally got angry at me when I tried to order food and I felt she was racist. Absolutely do not recommend this place. There are many viewpoints to enjoy grindelwald, you don’t need to go to this place and get humiliated

The location and view, managed by a family, deserves to have coffee every day

Nice restaurant apart from the town center. Simple but good service. The menu had few options but everything was prepared daily. Food was good and nice presented. Nice views from the terrace.

I had a similar bad experience regarding service. I think one lady really hates non-local tourists and had a terrible game face hiding the fact. So fake whenever she “turned it on” and pretended to be of service. Taller, tattooed arm. She just kept avoiding eye contact and rolling her eyes. Basically the worst service I’ve probably experienced in over 20 years. The other shorter lady was very sweet though. But that other lady needs to get over herself. She basically didn’t want to seat us. Just walked away and turned her back to us when we waited and asked if there was space for 2. Then rolled her eyes when we asked if the table outside was reserved and if we could wait for it. Then she handed us a menu. We tried to order food and she said we couldn’t. Then I tried to order a drink and she pretended to have no idea what I was talking about even as I was pointing at the menu. Then mumbled it was seasonal. Well, why not just put that on the menu instead of expecting me to know that? The whole experience was awful. Beautiful view though. Other server was kind and brought the food. Just maybe that other lady was having the worst day? Who knows. Don’t care.

The staff (guy who has white hair) was so rude to us. I know and understand some people in Grindelwald doesn’t like tourists and people who don’t speak German, but I was so disappointed by his disrespectful attitude. We try to order cake and had seats in terrace, but he went to kitchen to talk something in German to the another lady staff in the kitchen while looking us. When I try to order the cake in the showcase at the counter, he was like “More people will come soon for dinner, so no more seats, sorry, bye!!” and he just left and went to the the terrace and say hi to the another swiss guest with smile. He just kicked us out from the cafe. Even they have spaces for some tables, he didn’t allow us to eat in there. If you are tourists, I recommend you to go to Eiger coffee or Avocado bar. They always nice to the tourists. Because of him, I had a bad day. If you still want to go there, you should go when he is not there.

An absolutely perfect evening with great service, an incredibly delicious Cordon Bleu and a wonderful view. The crowning finale was the homemade coconut and blueberry tart. And all this in idyllic peace and quiet in the actually overcrowded Grindelwald. A wonderful piece of earth, keep it up 👍🏻

A short walk from the main town. Great food, great service, and great views. It’s hard to imagine that the food could compete with the views. But they complimented each other very well. Cafe 3692 is wonderful.

It took about 20 minutes to get to the cafe, but it was more than worth the effort. The staff is friendly, the atmosphere is great, and the irish cake is especially delicious. This is a cafe that has nothing to offer. If you have time, be sure to visit

This is how I imagine heaven... Pure harmony, in all details, the guest is king, but he should also behave like a king... A piece of heaven.

We really eat it really well. Unfortunately the side dish (potato gratin) with the lamb shank was very small. Otherwise a great view too!

Last Saturday we were in the café with eight people. After a service worker walked past us twice without looking at us, we spoke to her. We asked if it was possible to put two free tables together and she just replied curtly "No". When asked why not and that we would like to sit together as a group, she said that the tables were next to each other (back to back) and that it was the same thing. An operator can't do anything about the beautiful view, but they can do nothing about friendliness, at least politeness, and that doesn't seem to be necessary here anymore. We have spent our money elsewhere and will not be visiting the cafe again.

During a beautiful hike above Grindelwald we accidentally discovered this small, cute cafe. It has a terrace with a beautiful view of the mountains, and the inside is very rustic but cozy. A small but very fine selection of dishes, only regional products are used here. A large and good selection at the cake counter. Very nice and friendly staff. The cafe even has cute romantic rooms and therefore also offers overnight accommodation.

Warm welcome, waitress speaks French so very practical! Delicious meal in a beautiful setting. Everything was perfect!

One of the best places we visited. I love that they have only a few dishes so everything is special and very delicious. The beef stew was amazing soft flavourful meat and chewey dumplings.

I only had a dessert there but it was really tasty. I can really recommend it, the service was very accommodating and very friendly. We will definitely be back and would give 10/10 stars but unfortunately there are only 5! The coffee also tastes bomb.

This place was our favorite on our trip to Switzerland. The food changes daily and the people that run it are so friendly and kind. Make a reservation early as it is small seating inside. We wanted to eat every meal there but we only got to eat breakfast once and dinner once. It’s perfect.

What a great place. My wife and I came in the morning for coffee and stayed on the deck for a couple of hours admiring the view on a cloudy day and the unique, high quality design and features of the cafe. We came back for dinner and had a wonderful meal. The food is locally produced and service exceptional. Very talented, artistic and friendly people. Take Bus 122 from the station to Kreuzweg for easy access and walk down.

Great place for lunch and / or coffe + cake! Food is delicious and really locally sourced. Lunch deal makes it a good value too. Coffee is probably on of the best in Grindelwald and their cakes to go with it are just excellent! We loved the friendly and attentive staff and the views spreading out of their sunny terrace. We'll definitely be coming back!

Hard to find a better place for coffee. The view is absolutely top. Menu is good in prices are also acceptable. The sausage with Giljotine - is perfect.

Beautiful views and amazing food quality - what a good combination. What I like the most is that they’re making everything by themselves. Even homemade marmalade can be purchased there. The interior is warm and cozy, while the winter stays outside. With mountain train tracks inside, built into the floor, their design is quite unique and together with the food definitely worth visiting!

ONLY THIS BITE IS WORTH THE CLIMB!! Mi wife and I missed the bus from the terminal so we had to walk all the way up here. This first bite alone was enough reason to fly from Mexico to this place. We are soooooooo happy of being here!!!

Pros - Great staff - super friendly and well trained! - Great food - the kitchen was closed when we arrived, but we had the soup and sausage plus some cakes and coffee. Superb! - Great view Cons - Located at an elevation and away from city center. It was difficult for my elderly in laws to reach. Alternative is a bus that goes by it every hour. - Understaffed. They only had 2 people waiting on the whole establishment. So even though they were great, they could only do so much. It took them a while to tend to us, or to a couple who wanted to pay their bill and leave, or other customers. They really need more.

The food here is fantastic! We had a baked fish which was cooked perfectly and came with a nice, balanced tartare sauce and nice sides. The carrot soup was also tasty and rich - a perfect complement to the cool, sunny day. The desserts are also highly recommended - of which there are more options than the lunch menu! It is recommended to make a reservation and ask for an outdoor table if the weather is nice, as the view from outside is well worth it. The cafe is also child friendly - they have a high chair and some toys for children to play with. Parking is available for free across the road. Would definitely come again!!

This is one of the most memorable restaurants I’ve ever been to in my life. 4 years ago, my sister, brother in law, my husband and I went here. The food, view, ambiance and service were all top notch. The day was gray and went from bad to downright apocalyptic stormy, and the owner drove us back to our hotel, which is the most graciously I’ve ever been treated by a restaurant host. I think about this place every few months, and wish I would have written a 5 star, glowing review, and now I have. Go here for me if you’re in Grindelwald!

Have eaten here a couple of times and been very impressed by the quality of the food - the flavours are always incredible. But, today - I had the best cake of my life - raspberry, lemon and chocolate on the right (the poppy seed, vanilla and raspberry on the left was also excellent). Atmosphere is cosy and the service is friendly. Book ahead!

I stopped by while walking around Grindelwald. Check out various cakes Mandarin cake was so refreshing and delicious. The house salad is rich in cheese. The fruits, vegetables and dressing were so harmonious. The wine you recommended was also delicious. Cappuccino 👍 Above all, be so kind 🥹💓

We went for breakfast and did not expect too much but it was amazing starting from hospitality and finishing with food. The freshest bread and croissant, fruits, eggs, coffee and cakes are just delicious. Dinner reservation for weekend is preferable since they book up pretty fast. Highly recommended! They have a hotel above the cafe.
