Café du Marché in Carouge (GE)

A truly excellent meal, the fish was delicious, not to mention the brioche perdu which was incredible. The waiter was very pleasant and funny☺️We had a great time and we will come back as always.

Good time spent in this restaurant. Well located and easy to find. Book a few days in advance to be sure of getting a place as it was full. The dishes are delicious. I recommend the octopus as a starter and the “Parisienne” beef as a main course. The service very good but a little long (lots of people)

We went for a coffee on Sunday afternoon, there were only a few people there but the service was really deplorable. We waited at least 15 minutes to have a cappuccino and a coffee, the table next to us was served before us even though they had arrived later. To pay, I gave a 10 Franc note and the waiter never came back with the change, I had to go to the bar to ask for it. It’s quite clear that we weren’t going to leave them a tip! Note that there were at least 4-5 waiters, who were just chatting with each other instead of taking care of the customers. Really a shame, in Geneva it's getting worse and worse, prices are rising while the quality of service is plummeting!

I have eaten at this restaurant regularly for several decades. I ate there again a month and a half ago. A tartare, good. Beautiful presentation. On the other hand, the service was done by a waiter who was starting, without any supervision, who did not yet know the house's products. Other than that, he was charming. The atmosphere was not very warm on the part of the manager and she does not treat these customers in the same way at all. For some, it's warm and for others not even a glance. Damage.

A well-known café de Cartier, the atmosphere is good, the terrace is pleasant and the location facing the market square is great. To try !

Very nice experience but a little thing is missing… the service was good, the dishes were good and we had a lot of fun! But… just this little quibble detail that could make everything more harmonious. The dishes stayed a little long in the kitchen before being served (a little dry), surprise menu with no real surprises... Hesitant service, incomplete information, hiccups with the knives and forks, didn't know the wine. It's a bit of quibbling but given the prices we expect a little better and a little more. No doubt they can do it! I still happily recommend this establishment!

A total lack of Humanity is what I experienced this morning at the Café du Marché when I found myself in a difficult situation. I was returning home when my bladder was failing me so in distress I hurried inside and asked for the favor of using the toilet. The person who answered me, probably the owner, first looked me over from head to toe and then told me that this was not possible because the police were expected because of the theft. I must say that I did not believe this excuse but I hastily left the place without replying. So now, although I haven't consumed anything, I want to leave my testimony. Indeed, I have traveled a lot around the world and have never had to face such a lack of compassion and humanity. I also find it really distressing that such a situation happened in my own city. I end now by sharing this reflection: it is good to avoid judging a person by their appearances and to open your heart to receive them simply, with respect. Nadia Hiltbrand

A very good bistro, excellent cuisine but very Swiss prices...

In a superb setting, superb toilets, perfect training. What a desappointment ! 1 frankly bad vegetarian dish, uncooked lentils. We had already been disappointed but today the bar has olive oil without oil, yesterday's rice and uncooked eggplant. It's a shame because I loved this place. It's overrated or you should stick to meat dishes.

Great restaurant with fresh, good quality products. The menu changes often and only uses seasonal products! The service is great and the wine is very good! The prices are very reasonable for the quality! Very good address when walking in Carouge!

Still a nice atmosphere, but what's going on in the kitchen? I was used to more quality; wild boar stew without any surprises, sauce too liquid without really any taste, shells as a mezzo accompaniment, all presented in a plate almost cafeteria-like.. Disappointed with my visit, to check in some time.

Not Good tab! Quite often at restaurants, knowledgeable and understanding of the stress that some waiters undergo during rush hours, but this is the pinnacle! Saturday I order starter and main course at 2:00 p.m. they reassure me it’s ok 🕊️the kitchen is still operational my wife a fish dish, I am told it will arrive at the same time until everything is fine 🕊️ Alas my meat was hard, inedible (price tab approx. frs 27.-) impossible to swallow and after a quarter of an hour of waiting the waiter, overwhelmed, agitated, with only orders for drinks on the terrace finally removed my dish received my complaints and offers me: Nothing! no discounts or possible arrangements but nothing nothing 😢 still ten minutes go by even stressed server loaded with drinks asks me if am I going to have a dessert unfortunately the kitchen is closed 😤… well no! The bill please... I pay of course...even my dish not eaten 💸and still without any action on their part 💸disappointment I went across the street to grab a cheese platter, wine and an excellent dessert to move on BEFORE! At the market cafe I may never come back again!! 👎 ah yes a glass of white not charged 🫢 meh surely an oversight

Very disappointed. After waiting more than 30 minutes before our order was taken, we decided to order the lamb shoulder (indicated for 2 people) for €46. After another 30 minutes of waiting and a fairly ordinary tasting, not having finished my plate because of the noise, I received the bill and there was the shock: €46 x 2!!! The price was per person, not for 2 people. The inscription is illegible and P/ person is very ambiguous. In short, a hefty bill for a dish that barely deserved the price we expected, i.e. €23 x2. This almost seems like a scam to us.

What unfriendly treatment, we were put in the restaurant in the courtyard we wanted something to drink. Was neatly delivered! But what is our surprise after we indicated that we did not want to eat anything... we were dropped outside somewhere like bandits in a rather rude manner in words. Serious!!! Indicate that we were keeping places occupied even though there were at least 8 tables free

We had dinner in the interior courtyard which is beautifully decorated. The tables are well spaced and you feel comfortable there. We had a charcuterie slate as a starter which was generously garnished. Our main course (cooked as requested) was served with 3 sides which was nice. The service is good but a little slow. Attention: pool of prosecco at CHF 15.50!!! 3 x the price of a bottle....

I used to go there as a teen when it was a dive bar. Cafe du Marche is now very posh and the terrasse are so nice. We ate in the courtyard and it was lovely. I did not like the menu, though. Entrees were all meat proteins with barely cooked rice and a cauliflower puree covered with 2-3 sticks of veggies. Same accompagnement for all the dishes which is not very fancy given that our group ordered 2 types of fish and 2 types of meat. It was all missing flavor, kick and novelty. Wine and service were good.

Sophisticated and creative cuisine, nice setting whether on the market square, on the street side or in the charming little courtyard. Very professional and friendly service. Nice balance between the meat and fish offerings. It's not the best market in terms of price but I justify that by the level of the cuisine and the know-how of the staff... Really worth trying!

We had the cheese fondue and was delicious. Staff was very nice and friendly.

Very unfriendly waitress. We arrive and ask for a table for 5. She shows us a table and we start putting the coats on the available chairs and some of us go and get other chairs because there aren't enough. Once settled, she comes to take orders: coffees and pastries? She replies that she only has 4 croissants left, we're still thinking a little because there are 5 of us... and we ask if maybe there's something else, like pancakes or something? Answer: if there was, I would have suggested it to you. (Very dry and cold, maybe not the best job if you have to talk to customers...). We look at each other and then decide to go elsewhere and find another place where everyone can have breakfast... She scolds us if we were now going to leave after moving all the chairs? Quite a speech. What did you want, that one of us not eat or that we not sit at the table that you had indicated to us? An incredible lack of politeness and deplorable customer service early in the morning... In any case, it woke us up more than a coffee!

Always a great experience, I always let myself be tempted by the starter, main course, dessert formula from time to time. The cuisine is always of high quality, varied, beautifully presented, I happily invite professional contacts there because I am sure to have a good time there with my guests.

Possibly the best restaurant, excluding the Michelin star in the area, to be found “dans le Carouge”. The menu is very dynamic, meaning chances are you’ll find a very diverse set of options each time you go (ok, possibly not within the same week 😇). There is nothing I’ve tried that has let me down, from drinks to mains, ending up with desserts never to be missed. The location is hard to match, especially during summer if you get an outdoors table. The good weather and the people passing by around you are a free of charge extra for all people watchers out there. However: mind kids playing with balls. Now we come to the price: it’s Geneva, that tells the whole story :) As far as the service is concerned, I’ve had mixed experiences, let’s say 30% rude/cold, 70% good/friendly. Oh, a reservation is not always necessary but highly advised. Enjoy 😉

2nd time I'm going there because you shouldn't stay on your first impression. The dishes are beautifully presented, but I didn't particularly appreciate the flavors, overcooked duck, poor mash, I will probably come back a 3rd time because my friend loves this restaurant. Hoping not to be disappointed a 3rd time. Otherwise the staff is very friendly and the service is neither too slow nor too fast.

Simple food at too high prices. The quality of the meat on the Parisienne is very average: fatty without much taste. The house wine is good, the setting is pleasant but the services are not up to the price.

Gastronomic bistro that delights the taste buds 7 days a week. The plates are not only beautiful, they are full of creativity and the food is delicious. Of course, all this has a price but you can enjoy it for lunch as a dish of the day and frankly why deprive yourself? However, I regret my last 3 coffees served in the morning without a little treat, while most of the surrounding cafes offer homemade caramel, speculoos or little biscuits. Forgetfulness or habit... it's the only little touch that's missing (but I promise, I'll ask next time ;). The team is super friendly and the restaurant remains an essential address in Carouge.

The service and welcome: fantastic, careful and smiling welcome, prompt and attentive service. On the other hand, the food... Average quality meat, fatty, nervous. We go out and we're hungry, only the bill is steep.

Incredible lunch with a perfect plat du jour which had a very balanced palette of flavors (a rare thing for Geneva). I would underscore that the carrot purée was something unimaginably good. Must visit.

We went to eat on a Friday evening with a friend without a reservation. The welcome was very good, we found a table immediately. The waitress was very efficient and smiling. We had a tuna tartare with wasabi as a starter and a prime rib as a main course. Special mention for the tartare which was excellent. Congratulations to the new chef and the entire team.
