Café Luna in Basel

Friendly staff, good Italian coffee and a good selection of Italian pastries. The place is located directly in beautiful Spalenberg. A good place to take a short break after or during a sightseeing tour of the city.

Café Luna is a lovely and cozy place, perfect for having a chat over a coffee and croissant and enjoy some Italian vibe. The place is right in the city center so it is nice to stop there while having a walk in the center. Really recommended :)

Almost idyllic on the edge of Spalenberg's pedestrian zone. Unfortunately, there are occasional interruptions due to authorized entry of delivery vehicles when the traffic posts are down. Wonderfully full cornetti crema, pistachio or marmelatta, with Lavazza capuccino...

We hid out in this cute cafe to wait for the rain to pass. The iced latte is delicious and quite affordable. Only critique is the place smells like smoke and there aren’t many food options. Would recommend though!

I have rarely been so conflicted. On the one hand, I quickly got a seat and coffee. The coffee even had a heart of oat milk. The croissant was also very tasty, had lots of chocolate and pistachio cream. The employees are also very nice. On the other hand, one point that can be argued about: everything was too routine. I had the feeling that the employees were very aloof and I got the same feeling from the atmosphere.

Nice ambience, service was nice but the food and its selection were okay. Drinks bottles that you can't afford.

Good coffee, croissants too dry. Service staff overwhelmed by the many guests. You wait far too long and they are not prompt. At least one more person in service, so you don't have to wait more than 30 minutes for a croissant and coffee. We couldn't have breakfast together because everyone got their food and drink at some point!

Hearty cafe. The service was very unmotivated and only spoke English. We had to wait over 30 minutes for the drinks. Maybe it's due to a lack of staff? Unfortunately, this wasn't a pleasant start to the day.

Good breakfast, very nice café, we had a pleasant time there. The only downside is that the filled croissants are very stuffy, which spoils their good taste a little, too bad.

Disappointing service. I’ve visited the café multiple times with friends and family due to the location and the decent cappuccino they make. We’ve never caused trouble or disrespected the staff, on the contrary both my guests and I personally always have been polite. Nonetheless, there’s a particular member of the staff that whenever happens to be present it’s always directed towards us with a hostile and unwelcoming behaviour, abrupt, rude and with an attitude of ready to kick us out the soonest possible. Whatever stereotypes this staff person might believe about others, the workplace is not the place to advertise them. Especially when it’s a gastronomy environment where guests are visiting exactly to find a few moments of enjoyment from an otherwise busy and stressful day. Thank you for your coffee but honestly there’s no point for anyone to visit a place where one is not welcome.

I go there often just for coffee

Visited this cafe for a quick coffee stop while viewing the city. Had the displeasure of being served by an extremely unpleasant and rude staff member. No name tag on, but she was younger one serving with long hair. She really was horrid. We observed 2 other servers a gentleman and another lady who were pleasant and kind. I left the cafe disgusted at this girls manner, I wouldn't return on this basis. P.s. the coffee was nice.

Café Luna is basically a very pretty and chicly furnished restaurant. If the house is full, the acoustics are almost unbearable for me. The sound absorption is completely insufficient for the conversation noises and the tapping of the sieve piston echoes through the entire room. The coffee, which is why people come here, is excellent. Drinking a Prosecco here is less fun, it's not worth mentioning. For a short espresso, best enjoyed on the outside seating, with a fine pastry, Luna is still worth recommending.

We would like to take a coffee but the waiter give us a feeling that we are not welcomed. Because it’s busy inside. They had free space outside. I can’t recommend the service.

The Doppio Espresso was good, although extremely expensive (CHF 6.80). Unfortunately, not even a glass of water was served. The run-of-the-mill brand Lavazza doesn't necessarily fit the positioning in the luxury segment. The behavior of the staff was friendly, but very unprofessional (loud discussions among themselves, too relaxed interaction with guests, another guest was not served for minutes, etc. etc.).

We went there just to see what it was like there. Cafe was half full and we were completely ignored by the waitresses for 20 minutes. First one put the dishes away and the other watched her do it. Then they moved tables around without even taking a look at us or other guests (who wanted to pay). Then I stopped the time and gave us a limit of 20 minutes. That was the only thing the ladies really managed to do. We then left, we can't say anything about the food on offer as we took our money elsewhere. Good is different.

I really enjoyed the location, and the staff was friendly and helpful. But I personally did not like the coffee. Way too long for a double espresso, a lot of crema and bitter. Felt like coffee made by an automated machine, and not by a knowledgeable barista (I was sitting outside,no idea how they make their coffee, maybe it is indeed a machine).

We were in Basel for several days and went to Cafe Luna every day for a cafe latte. The service was excellent, extremely warm, and the audience was clearly made up of regular customers and tourists. It was easy to relax in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere.

Café Luna makes excellent coffee. The service is top and very friendly. The chocolate peaks are the best in town. The atmosphere is reminiscent of an Italian café in the middle of Rome. I can only recommend the café.
