This has been one of my best experiences this year, the food, the view, the service. Wow Tremendously good. We ordered a warm Minestrone soup and tried the rabbit, beef and pork, all accompanied with a wood-fired Polenta. The attention of the owner has been one of the warmest experiences from the heart, the simplicity, the flavors and the atmosphere make a perfect dinner for Lugano. Thanks Grotto Perino!

It is always a great pleasure to eat at Grotto Pierino and enjoy the beautiful atmosphere that distinguishes it. The food is excellent, the meats are chosen with great care, all delicious, the ossobuco very tender and flavourful, the polenta is inimitable. The kindness and professionalism of the service, the bread cake and the homemade digestive, which is also delicious, offered by the owners, making the experience at the Grotto Pierino truly special.

Discovered it by chance and were very surprised by the authenticity of the place, very characteristic and local. Very good starters of cured meats and cheeses, not to mention the fireplace polenta that accompanied our dishes, typical and practically the only ones in the restaurant, rabbit, ossobuco and braised meat. Few dishes but very tasty. I highly recommend a visit, excellent value for money.

Highly recommended. Nice people, simple but solid menu - a real, rustic grotto! You can still eat here for CHF 40 per person. And a view of Lugano that is wonderful.

Unfortunately, I must warn against this place. The service is horrible. We have waited for 10 minutes for someone to come to our table, and they did, 10 minutes after telling them to do so. English is not welcome here and there is no menu, which would help a lot. Especially, if you want to try completely new cuisine and don't know what to choose. The view from the garden is not everything, there are many things to improve.

After many years we remembered the Grotto del Pierino in Cureggia and, not knowing what we would find, we went for dinner and let ourselves be surprised. Naturally Pierino is no longer there but the family tradition is carried on by his son and friend Marco who has maintained the simplicity of Ticino cuisine with excellent results. Very happy to have returned and especially we can't wait for the warm weather to arrive so we can spend an evening on their terrace with a spectacular view of the Gulf of Lugano. Thanks Marco

We arrived, three servers there, no one looked. We sat down, no one came, over 5 minutes, I raised my hand, someone came. No greeting. When I asked about the menu, an unfriendly reference was made to the top of the house wall. No more words, walked away from the table, didn't even ask if we wanted something to drink. We got up and left. It's a shame, we were happy.

We ate mixed cold cuts, polenta and braised meat and polenta and rabbit... the rabbit was fabulous, flavourful and tasty, I have eaten more tender braised meats, but the taste was absolutely delicious. I like it because it is an authentic Ticino grotto

magnificent typical Ticino restaurant, the food is excellent, wonderful. The service is top notch and the digestive with coffee is to die for. Go there, it's worth the detour.

From the selection of cured meats, to cheeses and polenta with what you like most, service, friendliness and honest prices. I don't know if it's the last grotto in Ticino, but certainly in Lugano.

We returned after 17 years and found both the environment and the dishes as always: simply fantastic. Light polenta, excellent shanks, braised meat and perfect cheeses. While you're there, don't miss the view from the terrace behind the church (immediately above the Grotto).

For me one of the best grottos in the Lugano region. They still cook according to the old Ticino tradition. The polenta over the open fire is especially delicious. The rest of the kitchen, just delicious. And the breathtaking view of the Bay of Lugano, simply magical. The service, very accommodating and very nice. Next summer we'll go again. A prosimo year, visit Grotto Pierino.

Casual and very typical grotto, good traditional food, excellent quantities, you are not going to exit the grotto hungry.

Family-run for over 50 years (Cassina family), it is one of the few authentic grottos left in the Lugano area. A few minutes by car from Lugano, we find ourselves in nature and from the large terrace we can enjoy a beautiful view of the city. The polenta is excellent as are the other typical dishes of Ticino cuisine. To try!

Great food and a lovely atmosphere. The view onto Lugano isn't bad either. A very traditional Grotto Ticinese owned by the same family for decades. Also, ask for the home made digestivo.

Wunderschönes, typisches Tessiner Grotto mit einer grossen Pergola und super Aussicht. Sehr gute, typische Tessiner Gerichte. Grosse Portionen zu absolut fairen Preisen, wirklich empfehlenswert. Wir werden sicher wieder hingehen.

Es gibt nicht viele Speisen aber was es gibt ist lecker. Die kalte Vorspeise, mit feinem Brot, das Ossobuco mit Polenta war vorzüglich. Das es nach dem Kaffee noch einen Limoncello gab, hat den Wirt noch symptischer gemacht. Nur schade das das offene Feuer im Ofen nicht gebrannt hat. Immer mal wieder.

Soddisfatti in tutti i sensi, luogo tipico della nostra tradizione Ticinese, accogliente, caldo e decisamente sublime la cucina... la cortesia poi è davvero piacevole, il tocco poi di famigliarità con l’offerta del bicchierino di Nocino nostrano... beh, che dire.. consigliato il ritorno!

Deserve a visit, old typical grotto in Ticino County, fantastic food, quiet place, sympathetic people. Not for vegan unless the vegetable soup - spectacular - is enough for you.

La padrona è veramente poco accogliente e al limite della maleducazione, sia con i clienti che con la sua cameriera visto che più volte la riprendeva a malo modo.Quando le abbiamo chiesto il conto con tono scocciato ha risposto che non era ancora pronto invece del comunissimo “lo preparo subito”.Le tre proposte di carne con la polenta, sono cucinate tutte nello stesso identico modo.

Always a pleasure! Antipasto, polenta al camiono with rabbit, osso buccho, roast beef or gorgonzola. Minestrone or Ticino dried meat specialties and salami! Great cheese selection. All served by a warm host family in a breathtaking setting with a view of Lugano and the entire surrounding area. It's not for nothing that I've been a regular guest there for 50 years. This place is a source of energy and a place of strength for me. I can recommend it to everyone.

At the Grotto Pierino you always have a good time. The cutting board with lard is excellent, the meats are magnificent. Polenta with rabbit and braised meat, traditional dishes, always leave you fully satisfied. All accompanied by an excellent cup of Nostranello, which is a pleasure to swallow. The walnut ice cream is also very good. You feel at home thanks to the wonderful welcome of the hosts!

Mauro é un perfetto padrone di casa ed il Grotto Pierino lo rappresenta perfettamente.Questo é il genere di luogo che noi amanti della cucina popolare e genuina sogniamo di trovare.Poca scelta,come si addice al vero grotto ed un tripudio di sapori e tradizione che emozionano.Polenta al camino,brasati,ossi buchi,minestrone,affettati nostrani,formaggini,torta di pane:il paradiso.Finita la serata non si vede l'ora di pianificare una nuova visita.Prezzi onestissimi.Lunga vita al Grotto Pierino!

Bellissimo e buonissimo grotto sulla parte alta di Lugano. Aria fresca, poca gente e ambiente bellissimo. Ottima anche la location e il proprietario è molto simpatico. Menù tipico del posto con salumi, formaggi, carne e polenta: straordinario l’ossobuco. Infine viene offerto un dolce della casa e tre tipi di amari fatti in casa.Conto giusto considerata la Svizzera.
