The view is unique, a trip to the Hoher Kasten is really worth it. Unfortunately, gastronomy wasn't really convincing. What was noticeable were the dry vegetables (hardly any taste) and the overcooked veal slices.

We had made a reservation and after a long wait (the staff was chattering) we were shown to our place. We were able to order the drinks immediately, and it took a while before we were allowed to order the food. It only took several times to notice that we were able to order the food (the staff was chatting again and inattentive) Food wasn't a highlight but ok, portion was good. The ambience is outdated, loveless, the restaurant is reminiscent of a canteen. A visit to the restaurant was not an experience. We were compensated by the great view with the food but we wouldn't come back. Price performance is not right.

A brilliant view that you can enjoy in all directions, especially if you get a seat right by the window. The prices are typically high in Switzerland, but what else would you expect. Conditions very friendly and helpful. Overall a great experience.

Great view but the revolving restaurant makes everything bad. Keep in mind that you eat normally in the restaurant, the trip by train for 2 adults costs at least 200.-- Fr., so the restaurant should be of better quality. The service was good and suggested the pork fillet. This pork fillet was very hard-fried all over from the day before and was almost dry inside. Yes, we were hungry, I ate it, but I should have sent the plate back. No 120g pork fillet two small pieces of the end part and warmed them up, you don't do that, vegetables and fries OK. We had made a reservation, the waitress, who did her best, was understanding but couldn't do anything, even though she passed my complaint on to the kitchen. She still got a good tip from us. But the kitchen manager and the boss are below standard, we only got an apology from the waitress. So burned down as tourists. My conclusion: I don't know whether I'll go again and only order what's on the menu, otherwise you might get something from the day before.

Today on the Hoher Kasten it was -10 degrees. Almost lost fingers. 😃 But it was so worth it. Fantastic weather, views simply fantastic.

Very relaxed atmosphere, the cable car ride is a bit expensive, but it's worth visiting the revolving restaurant. Great view, the food was great, the staff is also very friendly. Reservation in advance is recommended as it is quite popular and otherwise you have to wait for a free space.

Great restaurant. We enjoyed the morning buffet. Large selection of cheese, bread, muesli, drinks etc. Up and downhill journey including buffet was 60.00 per adult. The view was great, but of course this depends on the weather. The staff is attentive and friendly. I can only recommend.

Beautiful and great food and drinks

Magnificent place to eat on the go or have a snack. There are two restaurants. On the first floor it is self-service with a large terrace and on the second floor with service staff, more chic and with a rotating floor. The prices are quite high but the place is magnificent. Reachable by cable car from Brülisau or on foot. Possibility for numerous hikes.

We attended the full moon dinner or “gala dinner” on Saturday, September 2nd. The starter buffet was very varied and tasty. Unfortunately, the main course selection that followed was very disappointing. The fish crispies were very fatty and the couscous was extremely dry. Dessert consisted of a plum jam and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Unfortunately overall very disappointing for a so-called gala dinner for a price of 105 CHF (including train journey but excluding drinks).

It is an experience whether you go up it on foot or with the cable car. Highly recommended

Interesting experience. However, the restaurant is usually full, so reservations are required, especially to get a window seat. We ordered late. It was quite good and sufficient for lunch. The experience depends mainly on the weather.

We received a voucher for brunch at the Hoher Kasten. It was an exceptionally nice morning and we ate more than one round of the revolving restaurant. The staff was very friendly and expeditious and the food at the buffet was plentiful and delicious. It is mandatory to make reservations or you won't get a seat.

We were invited to breakfast, a sensationally fine selection, cheese, rösti, muesli, Schlorziflade, etc. Gladly again!

I missed the recent Appenzeller cheese on the breakfast buffet. We are in Appenzellerland

Fantastic. From the pleasant conductor on the cable car, the beautiful rotating restaurant, awesome Rösti and rässe Appenzeller Käse...great way to start the day. Wonderful Alpen Gartenlandschaft as well!

I can only recommend the brunch with descent. The service was very nice and attentive, the selection for brunch was extremely good and attention was paid to food waste. Gladly again!

We had the Full Moon Diner. This was really great, the food was fantastic, the view was fantastic and the service was excellent. Absolutely recommended.

Everything is supper everything is divine. Only menu really needs to be revised. And at low loads over 25 minutes for the soup is awesome.

46 CHF per person for up and down. I find that expensive. But the view is very nice and the restaurant is very nice. If you can, you can also hike. But it was too difficult for us. Everything is very modern and nice to look at. The view paid off and my wife was happy 😄👍 The coffee and apple strudel were good. The service too.

Food was not good in terms of price and perfomance. Some meat wasnt fully cooked and the Sauce wasnt special. Schnitzel very small and basic. saladsauce pre bought. toilet smelling awfull. i guess drinks and stuff are okay but how could you go wrong there thought this was some highclass food place but it seems more like a tourist attraction for people who like to spend money. wouldnt recommend it if you want some gourmet food just swiss normal dishes you can get served at otherplaces for a normal price ngl tho the view can be good and the idea is nice too

An absolute must for anyone who lives or is on vacation in the area. Sunday breakfast at the Hoher Kasten is awesome. With a view over half of Eastern Switzerland when the weather is good. Brilliant. Will be back in 3 weeks

It's almost a bit too classy for a mountain restaurant, which attracts many a tourist. That's why it's often overcrowded. But the food and service are great! And there is a lot to discover all around.

After a sweaty climb, we were warmly welcomed up here in the restaurant by the service experts. Of course we quenched our thirst with a cool Sonnwendlig (non-alcoholic beer from the Appenzeller Locher brewery). This was served shortly after ordering. We were blown away by the menu, for once there was a selection for our daughter, who eats vegan. The beautifully presented vegetables had a bite and my vegetarian meatloaf was amazing. To top it all off, I was also offered a supplement (“glutton with ravenous hunger” 😉), which I gratefully accepted. Anyone who complains about Swiss gastronomy and points out the hospitality of their Austrian neighbors should come here. He can save himself the trip across the Rhine and enjoy the view while eating. If you prefer to take the climb more leisurely, you can use the cable car. Children up to 14 ride for free - really family-friendly!
