Eggli in Rüte

We were really pampered on Sunday from the reception to the farewell. Super fine food and great service. Machäd Wiiter so mer chömäd again.

I went to Eggli several times with friends in the last half of the year. Starting with the great view, the stylish ambience, the friendly and competent service staff, the food was also excellent. Regional menu, excellently cooked and the waiting time for the food was also very good despite the restaurant being full. At this point I would like to thank the hosts and the crew for their excellent performance. Keep it up - I'll definitely be back!

We were always greeted very friendly! We ate very, very well! Due to the large portions there was no room for any dessert 🙈 The staff is local and very attentive. We love traveling, even with our loved ones, to the beautiful, antique-furnished Eggli! It's great that something like this still exists!

Was there for dinner yesterday. Absolutely recommended and my personal highlight!! Sensational food and excellent service. Price/performance is also right. Top service, top view, very good food.

Since the new owners took over in April 2023, guests who “just” want a drink are now considered second-class/unwanted. Or: How a traditionally rustic, cozy and always exemplary run and friendly pub, where everyone was always welcome, mutated by the new owners into an unfriendly, arrogant-seeming and discriminatory two-tier restaurant in which profitability now noticeably comes first (what not surprising, since the current rustic building is soon to be replaced by a "contemporary" new building. Or: No longer recommended for guests who “just” want something to drink! We wanted to have a drink on a Sunday afternoon at coffee time at Rest. Eggli, where we had been regular customers of Astrid and Emil's for decades, as always on the viewing terrace on the west side, where many of the tables were unoccupied. The service staff there told us in a harsh tone that you could only get a table if you also eat something there. Puzzled, we asked if/where we could “just” have a drink. This would only be possible on the separate south-facing terrace with the less good view (and in the blazing sun). When we subsequently asked the new owner whether the drinks on the west terrace (inaccessible to us) with the better view cost more than on the separate south terrace (accessible to "drinking guests only") with the worse view, we received the answer that this would have been the case under the previous owners, but no longer is the case today. (which is not true, however, because we used to always pay the same prices for food and drink at Eggli, regardless of where we sat). We then told the new owner our surprise and dissatisfaction and explained that he probably wouldn't see us in the Eggli anymore. To which he replied angrily: “Then that’s just the way it is.” Fortunately, there are numerous worthwhile alternatives in the surrounding area, where guests who "just" want a drink are always welcome.

Pure Appenzell. Very friendly. Great kitchen. Great parking space. Great restaurant. A big compliment to the cook. Here the boss herself cooks with love and understanding. Great meat, super tender and juicy. Look at the photos and get an idea.

Very fine food, with a fantastic view! Will definitely come back. Definitely worth a visit! The ambience is a mix between ski hut, traditions and chalet.

We came here thanks to a recommendation from the hotel. But the trip up is definitely worth it. A great view. The restaurant is very cozy and homely furnished. The hospitality was very friendly and accommodating. And the food is a poem. Price-performance ratio is definitely right.

Amazing lovely place to see and flavour Switzerland. A must in all its ways

Beautifully located pub with a surprising amount of space inside. Child and animal friendly, small menu where everyone can find something, I had the chaesmagrons, they were simply made and delicious. Very nicely decorated inside and out, nice service, we didn't have to wait long for our food.

Very nicely located stop in the Appenzell region. The view is extremely impressive if the visibility is right. The service is friendly, fast and helpful. The prices - typical for Switzerland - are in the upper midfield. But tasty and in sufficient portion size. Unfortunately, this place will close at the turn of the year 2022/23 and will be replaced by an enlarged new building. If you have the opportunity, you should stop by here in 2023.

Staff unfriendly towards Germans.

View nice. After 30 minutes of waiting, food was served carelessly on chipped plates. Bread was forgotten - we had to get it. Guests who arrived after us and ordered later received their food before us and were served more attentively and were delighted with beautifully decorated dishes. I have the impression that German hikers are not welcome. Maybe that will change after the upcoming tenant change. We won't be able to get there until then.

Beautiful location with 360° panorama from Alpstein (Appenzell side) to Bodensee and everything in between. Small car park. And restaurant (did not try it yet). A good road cycling challenge too, and for mountain bikers great trails.

Nice restaurant with a terrace with a great view. Friendly service. Always worth a trip to Apenzellerland. I ate two blätzli with salad. The meat was very tasty, as was the salad dressing. There was only a little salad and it was swimming in the sauce. But all in all it was fine.

I was there to enjoy the afternoon sun and ordered coffee and apple pie. The cake came from the freezer and was manufactured industrially. The taste resisted me and I paid for it and gave it back.

An ideal starting point for a hike in the Alpstein. You can easily drive to the restaurant from Appenzell. The service is friendly and very quick. The dishes are good, fine and rustic (fits the area). The price/performance ratio is right. Beautiful view of the Alpstein and towards Lake Constance. We will be back.
