A beautiful place with a rich history

From Korea to here on a motorcycle

A place, truly, that everyone should see at least once in their life. It is something amazing and magnificent to see the glacier. The shame is that it is melting by leaps and bounds. We couldn't enter the cave there because it was closed.

The road from the hamlet of Gletsch to the Hotel Belvedere on the western side of the Furka Pass is a great driver’s road with a good road surface and very scenic views. The Hotel Belvedere will not disappoint you when you arrive there and it is a worthwhile stopping point to take some photographs and more importantly, to take in the mountain air and the spectacular scenic views. The hotel closed in 2016, but for me, this remains an iconic historic Alpine building that fits well with its natural surroundings and I sincerely hope that the building will be maintained and preserved as a historic building for many future generations to see. Sadly, the retreating Rhone Glacier is no longer visible from the hotel as it was when Auric Goldfinger and 007 passed this way back in 1964. We chose not to visit the Eisgrotte as I felt that it would probably be over commercialised and would not be what it was many years ago due to the melting ice and I did not want that to spoil an otherwise perfect day. Many thanks to those of you who had highlighted that in your earlier reviews.

The hotel is worth a trip! Great view from above

One of the most incredible experience of my life as an avid cyclist. Like many people riding up to the iconic hotel was on my bucket list for years. The climb from ..... was very "relaxing" in regards to traffic and the views along the way got me to a state of mind to focus on the climb and truly enjoy it. Those who have climb Grimsel Pass from the north side of the mountain will see how interesting it looks a wall of switchbacks on the south side. Heading to the Hotel there's a long stretch gradual incline allowing me to see my goal at the distance. I kept counting the 5 switchbacks, and repeating to myself, it's just 5 Berto u just did Alpe De'Huez, this can't be more difficult. 😂. I learned through the years that every climb has its own special treatment waiting for you.

They charge you to see four rotten boards and some ice covered with dirty blankets. You have to have a lot of face to charge for that.

Great view! There is free parking. I advise you to go to the glacier.

Unfortunately, the Rohne glacier is retreating more and more every year. 40 years ago we were there with the children. You could see the glacier from the hotel, which has been closed since 2015

"Road therapy" is something extraordinary, throughout the car journey, the experience is relaxing and magnificent among the Alps and their glaciers. The Eisgrotte Glacier is smaller compared to the photos of the attraction, but it is still an unmissable experience.

Haven't stayed here, just passing. But you can feel some Wes Anderson atmosphere. Highly reccomended for that)

Spectacular place with great views. The grotto offers a good impression of the glacier world. Topics relating to the Rhone Glacier are clearly explained on various boards on the way to the grotto.

The scenery is nice. Food is cash only. I went there because I heard I could walk to the Rhone Glacier, but it's blocked now. However, the entrance fee is quite expensive.

A sad but also a wow experience. Sad because the glacier is disappearing more and more. If you have the opportunity, be sure to take a look before the glacier and the ice grotto are no longer visible.

Beautiful and evocative curve between the Furka and the Grimsel

Misleading! Definitely don't visit this place. 5 years ago this may have been a beautiful sight, but the glacier has half melted and is barely visible from the vantage point of this place. The area around the glacier is severely polluted, there are broken plastic sheets evergwhere and they are slowly disintegrating in nature: these people should be arrested for this environmental crime! The "ice cave" for which you pay 9 CHF does not even: it is just a number of ice walls of what used to be an ice cave, now covered with white plastic sheetst: it is half collapsing! Absolute scam this place. Shame!

Definitely worth visiting! The nicest blue colored ice that I have ever seen in an ice cave, super impressive!

Very interesting experience to go up on the mountain with all those turns, especially when you are driving a manual car!!

We didn't go to the Glacier, we stayed outside, the weather was bad... we stayed to take some photos at the "mythical" Hotel Belvédère. The Glacier will be for a next time.

It's a shame that white protective blankets have to be placed over it, global warming has already taken its toll here too

The views of the lake and glacier are nice. The ice cave however is a man-made attraction that is not actually part of the glacier anymore. It is held together with insulating blankets and is quite ugly. It's just there to charge an entrance fee and make money.

Of course very nice view. Entry into the glacier cave is worth it. Don't want to promise too much. You can treat yourself to it while you're already there.

Great view. Make me remember James Bond ride in the Swiss Alps. Good place to stop to stretch legs after several hours of driving!

We came here for a snack and to walk the glacier trail. The food stand only takes cash. Directly upstairs, the gift shop/ticket entrance takes cards, but has a minimum 30 francs purchase. Tickets for two people is only 18. So we took free pictures on their patio and left. We would happily have paid for both food and tickets. We have never seen a tourist attraction make it so difficult to give them money.

There's not much to say other than - worth seeing. Hi, almost everyone gets the opportunity to experience the glacier up close for relatively little money. Definitely do it.

A place that everyone should visit to see and understand the effects of climate warming on glaciers. The ice cave is covered with heat-insulating material, but with all that, the ice melts and it is wet. A winding path leads to the cave, in some places there are handrails and on the steepest climbs there are grooves cut into the rocks to prevent slipping. There are many information boards along the path, you can see alpine plants and, if you are lucky, meet a groundhog. In the cave - wooden boardwalks, which are quite slippery due to humidity. Appropriate footwear would therefore be recommended. It is more difficult to get to the glacier. It is not forbidden, but there is a warning about the danger and to get there, you need shoes with a good tread. Entrance tickets can be purchased in the souvenir shop, the cost is CHF 9.- or €10.-. I really hope that some part of the fee goes to the preservation and maintenance of the glaciers, not just for profit. A small free parking lot at the entrance.

This place is magnificent Too bad this great hotel is closed I would be the first to take over management. What happiness I found great energy up there, a crazy resource so I slept under the stars on the ground And I would do it again very often Investors, I hope to see you soon.

An ice cave kept together with insulating blankets that is not part of the glacier anymore. Ugly and just kept there to be able to charge an entrance fee and make money. Lake and glacier views nice though

If you want to walk through a piece of glacier again, you have to hurry, soon there will be nothing left. Overall, a beautiful landscape, a must for mountain lovers.

Closed hotel since 2015. Hotspot for tourists. Entrance to the Rhone Glacier is subject to a charge, as is parking. Not a restaurant but a snack area. If it's cold or raining, you should stay in the car

This stop on furkapass is a must. Amazing views! Also you can stop here to visit Rhone Glacier howere you need to consider your arrival time as they seem to play a game with opening hours. We have travelled that far from UK to only been told it's closed however we were on time according to online opening hours.

An excellent destination to visit and enjoy watching a parade of elegant cars passing by, occasionally even stopping in front of the Hotel Belvédère for photos.

The place is definitely cool, especially for taking photos of cars or motorbikes. It's a shame that it is assiduously frequented every day, especially on weekends, so finding the ideal conditions for taking photos of a certain level requires time and patience.

The Belvédère is such a beautiful hotel in an incredibly beautiful location. Hopefully it will open its doors again!

Lots of people but the places are very pretty

If you are a biker, motorcyclist not the other annoying one, this is a must stop. Just odd, breathtaking and fun at the same time. Dronks and food are, of course, crazy expensive in the nearby shoo. Bring your own.

Crowded inside the cave, the parking lot is crowded.

Crazy place. Can 1000% recommend, and even if they don't say so, you have to go down to the glaciers all the way down it's too wild, but remember the right shoes.

Parking lot over full. You have to be lucky to get one on the weekend. It's best to come by during the week

You don't go into the glacier like you used to, because it has retreated a long way. There is still a small remaining piece of glacier covered with protective fleece in which a corridor of around 50 meters was created. In a year or two that will be gone too. The glacier is receding rapidly and the glacial lake in front of it is getting bigger and bigger. We were shocked at how the landscape here has changed in the last 20 years.

On the Furka Pass in Switzerland. Beautiful. Stopped at cafe across the road. Took a walk up and a beautiful glacier lake surrounded by waterfalls.

Quite disappointing compared to the Chamonix ice cave. The landscapes still remain magnificent.

A magnificent place. Because of global warming, we find less and less ice every year. It is sad to watch this magnificent creation of nature slowly die.
