Giardino in Winterthur

The on-site visit was very good, see separate review. Ambiance, food & service on site are also good. A little pricey but perfect for a special occasion. However, you should avoid group bookings. I was only contacted once by phone in response to my request, even though I asked for a message by email because I have difficulty making phone calls during the day. We then reserved a table for dinner to discuss the details on site. That worked wonderfully, but unfortunately I never heard anything afterwards. After about a week I asked for an offer by a certain date because I can't look for something new at short notice with a group of almost 20 people. I then received written feedback for the first time: My reservation was canceled because they don't work with deadlines. Was super disappointed, I was really looking forward to the delicious food and the ambience. But I'm also happy to now be able to go to a restaurant that was able to give me written confirmation and is cooperative.

Very cozy atmosphere. Service could be more attentive. Service was super friendly, but the empty starter plates were on the table for about 30 minutes until they were cleared away. Wine was only refilled sporadically. In my opinion, 2 people in service are not enough for a Saturday evening. Food was good, lasagne no longer available at 7.30pm on a Saturday. I recommend pizza or pasta.

Not like before... limp pizza with delicious toppings, delicious tartare comes without toast, you have to order extra bread... chili for the pizza as well... the wine you ordered only comes upon request. They were friendly, but not particularly attentive or at least quick...pasta was ok, nothing more...far too expensive for what was on offer, we won't go there anymore, it's a shame😏

Courteous staff and very good pizza dough. A bit like sourdough bread. The Ravioli dell Giorno with porcini mushroom sauce was also creamy and very well balanced. The price is on the higher end, but the great pizza was worth it to me.

Very nicely decorated 😍 Salad was very tasty, but could use a little more sauce. To be honest, I didn't like the carbonara, the taste was very special, but maybe that's because I'm actually used to it differently. But the dessert was terrific 🙏🏼😍 What bothered me a bit was that the waiter simply poured me water even though I didn't want any water and then charged me for it at the end. But otherwise he was very friendly and had fun with us.

I'll never go here again! We had personally discussed that we had a budget of 90 per person for a group meal and would like to sit in the beautiful part under the trees. When we arrived we were set up right next to the cigar lounge. Upon request, they spontaneously changed the situation so that we could sit at the front as discussed. The food was ok, but the budget was not met and it was overcharged by 45.00 per person. Despite the price information on our part, we were told whs. the most expensive wine (60.-/bottle) was served. We pointed out that this was absolutely unprofessional business behavior, as the boss only said empty phrases.

Unfortunately, the price/performance ratio is not right: rather expensive for mediocre quality. The wine was not given for tasting and the food was not given to all four people at the same time. At the end we were given the bill as a sign that we had to leave (it wasn't extremely late). Unfortunately, the location itself is the only highlight.

The boss promises Swiss-Mediterranean cuisine and rarely has a promise been kept so perfectly. In addition to excellent cuisine, it also offers a cigar lounge with a bar. In my opinion, the latter is excellently stocked. I will gladly come back to Mr. König's again and again. Update: The restaurant is now under new management. My review refers specifically to the Al Giardinos team that I experienced. I have no experience with the new team.

I'm never going there again. Boss doesn't stick to agreements! Prices are overpriced, service so-so. Especially if you want to eat with a larger group, I recommend looking for another restaurant.

That was my last visit there. I've never had such bad service. The food was unsalted, cold and simply not tasty. The presentation of the food is deceptive and you think you are getting good food. The boss was also unfriendly and kept offering us wine even though we didn't want it. This is how they made more money. They said it was the best wine, came from Italy and cost 60 francs a bottle. The bottle cost 17 francs online... This restaurant is not recommended at all for large occasions. The boss Sam writes down the agreements, but forgets them all and denies them. Also does not offer an offer or a price estimate. When asked why he was not keeping the agreements, he said that he had never heard of these agreements and did not want to implement them. We made the agreements 3 weeks before the event, can you still remember the agreements? We also wanted to sit in the winter garden, as we had agreed, but he forgot and we were seated next to the cigar lounge. The smell there is unbearable. We had to negotiate with the “boss” Sam to get the seats we wanted. It shouldn't be like that, it's not professional at all and unfriendly. Our budget per person as discussed was also not met; we were even charged twice as much. In this restaurant it's just macho men who take the opportunity to make more money. Not recommended at all, it's better to go to a decent place to eat with better wine.

We had our Christmas dinner at Al Giardino, which I wouldn't recommend. The previously discussed budget was far from being met. Unfortunately the main course was served cold. The vegan alternatives were also rather lean. At the beginning we were seated next to the cigar lounge, which was discussed differently and where it also smelled very strongly of smoke. However, the request to relocate was responded to quickly. But all in all it was a rather unpleasant visit, and when asked why the budget was exceeded by more than 1000 euros, the boss only made excuses.

We had a lovely evening and enjoyed the ambience. We had previously personally discussed with the restaurant boss Sam that we had a budget of 90.- per person. The boss Sam promised us that he would put something together within this framework. But the bill amounts to 135.- per person! A part of the consumption was tacitly recorded after consumption in addition to the agreed price. After several requests, we offered to take 4 out of 5 bottles of Prosecco from the aperitif from the bill. We pointed out that this was absolutely unprofessional business behavior, on the one hand not issuing written confirmation of our agreement for 90.00 per person and on the other hand exceeding the agreed budget by around 1350.00. Restaurant Chef Sam’s answer: “I’ve been doing it this way for 40 years.” But honestly the table decorations were really pretty.

A pure disaster... extremely expensive, service staff only speaks English (not a national language at all!!), very long waiting time (50 minutes for 2 starters), pizza sola (still soft in the middle), very expensive wines, no parking space, no thanks at the end and didn’t say goodbye… NEVER again

My last visit to Al Giardino, once one of my favorite restaurants, was during a Christmas dinner and unfortunately left a disappointing memory. To my surprise, the highlight of the evening, the tomahawk steak, was served cold, which significantly diminished the enjoyment. There was also an unexpected glitch with the tartare - the bread, an essential part of the dish, was only served upon request. The overall quality of the food was only mediocre, which particularly saddened me as I was used to much higher quality from previous visits. The wine list, which I perused in anticipation of a celebratory selection, turned out to be very modest and failed to impress. Another point that struck me negatively was the atmosphere in the restaurant. The warm, family-friendly and appreciative environment that I had so valued was completely missing. Instead, bass-heavy music dominated, which didn't fit the festive mood of a Christmas dinner and further detracted from the overall experience. In conclusion, I regret to say that Al Giardino is no longer the restaurant it once was. There is clear room for improvement, both in terms of the dining experience and the atmosphere. I hope the restaurant returns to its former quality because it would be a real shame to lose such a place.

The food was expensive but cold and when we told the service employee he told us that people in other places don't have anything to eat. The service employees also poured the new wine into the glass that had another wine in it. The staff's handling of our concerns was very spiteful and that's not how you treat guests who are friendly.

There is even a cigar corner or lounge with a bar. A really great idea!! Compliment!

Retreat with the Cooperativa Italiana on Saturday 2.12.23. The ambience is beautiful, but the food leaves something to be desired. We got a main course with mushroom risotto and veal steaks with a few vegetables on the side. The risotto wasn't a risotto but like semolina and it didn't have any mushrooms in it, the vegetables were steamed and had no taste, the meat wasn't bad. The dessert lemon cake with lemon sorbet well the cake was very dry. The service was also so-so, I got a not so great answer when I asked the third time if we could get water at the table, then the waiter told me that he had to bring the dessert first and then he would bring the water... .Well with the prices you pay at Giardino I'm very disappointed with the whole dinner. I also have to say that since we had the tables next to the cigarette lounge, my clothes smelled like smoke and so did my hair, which I didn't find that pleasant either.

Warm, open atmosphere, somewhat cramped seating. Very friendly and courteous service, but also very busy - everything is fine, but there is no taste explosion with the food. Food presented very nicely, but only ok in terms of taste. The starters - Vitello Tonnato and Fritto Misto were a good start and both were tasty. But the main course Paillard Di Manzo - the beef was completely cooked and cold, the Mediterranean seasoning and grilled flavor were well balanced, but meat was not skillfully fried. The Risotto alla Zafferano was very nicely presented, also chunky, a bit too firm to the bite, but we lacked the right balance here - saffron and salt. The tiramisu at the end was good and simple, but again not a high-flyer, just a normal tiramisu without love and pep. We hoped for more as Al Giardino is an Italian restaurant with a well-stocked menu.

So much potential inside, really great and nice service. Unfortunately, it smelled like smoke (wood stove in the room? Fire outside, the smoke going straight into the guest room?). I had to wash all my clothes and hair, it smelled like a campfire. The ambience is more reminiscent of a bar. In my opinion, colored lights and electronic music don't detract from the beautiful dining room. It was very uncomfortable/unromantic. The food is okay, but relatively expensive. 2 non-alcoholic drinks, 1 bottle of water, 2 starters and 2 main courses. 165.- for medium quality. Everyone was nice, but that's not just why we go to a restaurant.

We spent a very nice evening at Al Giardino. The menu is manageable and the quality of the food is very high - that's exactly what I appreciate. Everything was freshly prepared and very nicely presented. Five of us spontaneously visited the restaurant as a family. Since all the seats in the garden area were booked, we were given a table in the cozy side room. The service there was also very attentive and quick - despite the many guests. We had a problem with the process of the main course. The team's reaction was more professional than I have ever experienced. Even before we complained ourselves, the boss came to our table on his own initiative. He apologized, briefly explained what went wrong, ensured that the error was quickly corrected and spontaneously offered the appetizer as compensation. This was a refreshing and honest reaction compared to the excuses and reassurances and the “coffee is on the house” that I have often experienced before. Congratulations! If we as Bernese come to Winterthur again, we will come back!

3 hour stay with lousy service, mediocre food and totally overpriced! Our telephone reservation was not noted. Apart from the beautiful tree in the garden, we were only disappointed: a lousy reception, then a wait for the menu, then a wait again for just the drinks, and so it went on the whole evening. No trace of hospitality or customer service! The salads were still ok (including the bulbous leaves!), the main course Cozze was way too spicy!! without such a declaration, the porcini mushroom ravioli tasted stale and was warmed up again. Dessert was okay, but outrageously expensive for the small bite! Not recommended at all, sorry!

I recently had the pleasure of visiting this restaurant and I absolutely loved it! The roast beef I ordered as an appetizer was simply amazing. It was tender and juicy. By far the best roast beef I've ever eaten! For the main course I chose the tagliatelle with a prawn carpaccio on top and was not disappointed. The homemade pasta was fresh and perfectly cooked. The combination of the delicious pasta and the tender shrimp carpaccio was simply heavenly. What particularly impressed me was the quality of the ingredients and the attention to detail. The tomato sauce was perfectly balanced and underlined the taste of the dishes. It was obvious that a lot of emphasis is placed on fresh, high-quality ingredients here. The great ambience of the restaurant further added to my great experience. The decor was stylish and inviting, and the atmosphere was pleasant and relaxed. The restaurant had a modern yet cozy atmosphere that was perfect for an enjoyable meal. Not to forget the super cool staff! The team was friendly, attentive and professional. They had extensive knowledge of the menu and gave me great recommendations. The service was quick and efficient, and they made me feel comfortable throughout my visit.

Great Restaurant a bit outside of Winterthur. The cigar lounge is great and the selection of the cigars itself even better. Very well decorated. The food in the restaurant is excellent. We had our wedding dinner at Al Giardino. Everything worked perfectly from A to Z. The staff is super friendly, they organized everything really well (even with children etc). It was really TOP!! Thank you again to everyone, we will never forget this day and can only recommend Al Giardino to everyone.

The chef learned his craft, which he obviously interprets more than art, at 11 Madison Park and at Ramsay. And you can tell that from what is on offer, but not from the bill, which only partially does justice to the label 'fair'. In the words of Schwarzenegger: I'll be back!

I spent a great evening in the cigar lounge. We were looked after extremely nicely and charmingly. So the time flew by. It won't be the last time in the lounge. I would love to come back to indulge in cigars and whiskey.

Al Giardino had been recommended to me, which is why I was really looking forward to this evening and the delicious food that was promised. The service was very attentive and we really liked the atmosphere. I liked the fact that we not only got the greetings from the kitchen, but also a small intermediate course between the starter and the main course. Basically, I liked the food, but the price-performance ratio wasn't right for me. I paid almost 50 francs for the Irish grass-fed beef fillet. You can charge this price, but then the meat should be tender... To be honest, I have to say that I had high expectations of the food, which were not met (even compared to other restaurants). The many very good reviews are not entirely understandable to me.
