Grotto Efra, menú in Sonogno

Incredible. You are put in a place. But then other guests come who are preferred and you have to move to a worse place. Absolutely outrageous behavior. Ps: We were put first by an employee, which the arrogant owner didn't want to accept afterwards!

During an excursion with a senior group, I stopped at Grotto Efra for lunch. The walk through the village towards the waterfall was inviting, some of the stone houses were decorated with lots of flowers. The rooms in the Grotto Efra were pleasing. The food served (minestrone, pork cheeks with polenta, polenta with baked gorgonzola or polenta with cooked vegetables) was excellent. The Merlot also went well with the meal. The waiting time of around 20 minutes was over quickly. The service was extremely nice and quick at the same time. The torta di pane for dessert was delicious, the espresso was aromatic. The visit to the Grotto Erfa was a real hit. The Grotto closes for the season on Saturday, October 21st, 2023. It will reopen on May 1, 2024. Nice ambience, local food selection. A table reservation is recommended for lunch or dinner. A recommendation at any time!

Small but fine menu and perfectly prepared! The ambience is also perfect. You can choose to sit by the open fireplace or outside with a view of the waterfall.

Good morning, I had polenta and alpine cheese. The polenta was undercooked and had a strange taste... Well 20 minutes after finishing my plate, no word from the waiter to take the dessert order. Overall dissatisfied, except for their lemonade, location and very friendly setting

A very friendly team, with numerous culinary gourmet snacks of cheeses, various cold cuts, ham and salami flavors with bread and drinks from the region... very tasteful and spicy, very aromatic also the Insalata Mista including dressing! An absolutely convincing location and courteous hospitality, which delighted my wife and me and invites us to come back soon to take a break at the Froda waterfalls. We arrived without a reservation 😂 everything was fully booked but after a bit of waiting they found us a table. However, we are not regular customers but certainly twice a year when the season is right we gladly stop by Efra. Polenta and meat are delicious, you can smell the well cooked meat. They are kind and helpful. Prices are honest and reasonable. The ice cream is good. We'll be back next season. Thank you. 🥰

Super great grotto! There is Ticino cuisine and local drinks :-)! And lots of ambience, friendly staff and a great view of the waterfall. You can linger and enjoy yourself under the trees even when the temperatures are high.

Great grotto food fantastico, can only miss it

First of all I want to say that the atmosphere is great. There is a view of a nearby waterfall. The property is surrounded with green fields and there is a small playground for kids. The stuff is very friendly. We arrived at 15:45 on Sunday and were told that the kitchen was closed at 15:00. The information on site states 16:00. So we were disappointed. Our waiter tried to help the best he could. We ended up ordered cold dishes. The dishes were good although a bit pricy in my opinion. 30€ for a meat and cheese plate. The place can be reached by car. Pay attention to instructions on their website.

Superb discovery. Only local. Very pleasant staff, small attention with a bowl of water for our Australian Shepherd 🐶. FYI accepts some cryptocurrencies (I know nothing about it but there are 3 crypto symbols accepted, that may interest some of you). Ah yes, either you book, or you come early for us 11:30 a.m. we were the last table accepted without reservation, or you turn around empty-handed.

The Efra grotto is a magical place: warm and welcoming atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff, endowed with sincere hospitality. The dishes, absolutely local, have amazing flavours. We had three polentas and we could taste all the authenticity of the ingredients, cooked with extraordinary skill. Highly recommended place to feel out of this world and enjoy extraordinary specialties!

Excellent place to taste traditional Ticino cuisine! In the magnificent Verzasca valley, and 30 minutes from the Froda waterfall which is worth the detour. I ate the best pollenta with osso buco of my life there! I would definitely go back if I'm in the area again, and I highly recommend it if you're passing through the area!

At the end of Val Bavona there is this grotto/restaurant with stone walls and near a scenic waterfall. If you don't eat their polenta you commit a crime towards the community of gourmets and perhaps towards the entire human community even if the offer of the stewed marmot accompaniment is instinctively repugnant but there are valid alternatives. You can sit on the windowed veranda with a view of the waterfall or in the historic and small room with fireplace. At the end of October they close the business; inquire about the precise date.

Congratulations on giving up serving Coca-Cola, Nestlé and fries! Anyone looking for regional and artisanal dishes and drinks will be in for a treat. Delicious minestrone to recommend.

Very, very nice grotto in a totally quiet atmosphere. There are great, homemade dishes using local ingredients (e.g. polenta, cheese platter, minestrone). The staff was very friendly. For example, the origin of the cheese was explained to us individually by the waiter.

A great location, extremely friendly and nice staff and a very great atmosphere. There is a very manageable menu, but it only contains local and original Ticino dishes. We definitely recommend something with the polenta. It's really delicious. The prices are also really reasonable for Swiss standards. However, we definitely recommend a reservation. Great restaurant in a unique setting. Super friendly service and just very comfortable. Not "standard" food. Everything cooked locally and with love. The pork knuckle was just amazing. Specialties from Ticino are served here. Great mountain of cheese from the area. Be sure to order a cold plate. There is plenty of space outside but on weekends you should book in advance. We were here twice on our vacation. In any case, don't miss it. Simply great.

Excellent Grotto at the top of the Verzasca valley. The typical products such as mixed cold cuts and cheeses are very good. The polenta is also very good. Very kind staff.

Cozy grotto with fine small dishes. Despite the driving ban, you can drive your car to the parking lot in front of the grotto (good for a walk to the waterfall).

It is located very close to the Froda Waterfall in Sonogno. Italian is spoken here and the food is wonderful thanks to the rich traditional cuisine of the region. A place surrounded by exuberant nature accompanied by the peaceful sound of the waterfall. Highly recommended...

Perfect welcome. Delicious polenta and stew. Cuisine with local products and drinks. And, with great surprise, I also found the "gazzosa" of the same brand that already existed in my childhood.... From Lausanne, thanks and a special greeting to the manager's mother who served us with competence and a smile.
