Grotto Figini in Collina d'Oro

Long waits, more than an hour to receive the dishes, and long waits to place orders. Furthermore, once the first dish arrived we waited another 10 minutes before receiving the remaining 3 dishes. Two of the plates were also chipped cleanly. Very tense environment, justified only in part by the public holiday and the resulting large number of customers. Tap water counted in the final bill.

The food was excellent, the wines really good. Next time I am in the area, I will visit again.

Grotto Figini is an absolute gem! We chose it for the celebration of our anniversary and had an amazing dinner there. The place is on the outskirts of a beautiful forest. We enjoyed the game meats! The staff was hospitable and spoke very good English as well. :) Highly recommended!

Cute area of Lugano, with some original grotto-style restaurants (though they have since expanded from their grotto origins and the dining area isn't actually in a grotto). Had some fresh pasta with a creamy topping, and wife had some even tastier pasta with pesto (can't remember all the names!) But among our party of eight, four people had the beef ribs - 'costine' - which were made in an open fire grill. My aunt let me try a piece - man, I should have ordered them, they were amazing!

Since the change of management, it is no longer the legendary, typically Ticinese Grotto Figini it once was. I brought a friend from Romandie and I was ashamed. Very slow, personal service Unprepared about local products (no idea about wine and meat/fish). I heard staff make negative comments mocking a couple who spoke local dialect. It was a really bad evening, I really don't think I'll go back. I'm really heartened to have to leave a review like this, but I couldn't help myself.

If you are in Lugano, this is a MUST!! The waiter explained us the whole menu as we did not understand Italian and gave us great recommendations. I have visited over 120 European restaurants in the last year, never have I had a better Antipasti before 👌🏻 Thank you for an attentive service, amazing food and a super local ambience! At the Grotto Figini you always eat very well. I personally love the caramelized onion with cow buscion mousse and local coppa! A show. The bull fillet is also excellent, tasty and cooked to perfection. The ribs are delicious, tasty and cooked to perfection. The chef at the grill doesn't suit this good restaurant for my taste. After the meat was already on the grill, he poured a lot of coal, used the fan to blow the coal onto the meat so that the embers would ignite again, then fried the whole meat at full flame, now and then brushing it with a little sauce and turning it over. Sorry, a barbecue fan is at a loss. Of course we didn't opt ​​for the grill menu, the chef in the kitchen was excellent for that.

Very sad to report, given my close proximity to this restaurant, that I have recently had my last meal there. At no point did the service make us feel welcome. We felt rushed in our drink order and ended up with a glass of wine each instead of the bottle we thought we'd ordered. And when it came to us providing feedback on the overhung, dried out and overcooked steaks, the waitress clearly had absolutely no interest in our opinion of their cooking or our enjoyment (or lack thereof) of our evening. To top everything off we, and everyone else, were treated to the spectacle of one of the waiting staff having a fight with a customer who seemed to have been double parked due to the inadequate parking facilities and/or organization at the venue.

Terrible service! We waited 20 minutes before someone came over to give us the menu card. Another 15 minutes to receive a bottle of water. Some of the dishes offered on the menu have nothing to do with a grotto. Prices are normal but it is reasonable to expect much more. We called to reserve a table in advance. Upon arrival we waited a few minutes before someone approached us. Then we waited a few additional minutes so that the staff could arrange a table-end cause obviously our reservation was forgotten. Superb visit, I can recomment Figini to everybody that wants to enjoy an evening with great food and top service in a very tradinional Ticino atmosphere. Lots of locals in this Grotto, which is alwas a good sign. We don't speak Italian, but the waiter was very happy to give us recommendations and we didn't regret it. Also for vegetarians you have great options available. We'll definitely come back.
