Don't let the surrounding beauty confuse you, because that's the only good thing about the place. We went there specifically based on a recommendation we read, and to say we were disappointed would not even describe half of what went on there. Let's start with the drinks - we ordered Aperol Spritz and Campari Spritz cocktails. Calling it a cocktail is just a joke. It was a soda with a splash of Aperol/Campri, a medicinal taste. When we asked for a lemon (and a normal Aperol should come with an orange/lemon), we claimed that we had run out. Main dishes - we ordered a roast meat dish and a fish dish. The meat came completely from the inside! The waitress said that this is how it should be and that everything is fine and just took the dish. She didn't even put it back on the fire for a few more minutes (of course we were charged for a whole dish that we barely touched). The raw meat was accompanied by a block of polenta that looked like a brick, handled and did not go down the throat. Regarding the fish - we received a tasteless fish schnitzel, with bones in it! Not a fillet. The dishes are very expensive (a total bill of 3 dishes and drinks cost us 124 francs) and in retrospect we would not have eaten here even if they had paid us. The worst part of the meal was not the food itself, but the awkward and repulsive behavior of the staff. When we claimed that the expensive price did not justify the quality of the dishes, they spoke to us in a very aggressive manner, shoved the bill into our hands while threatening to call the police and shouted again that everything is fine and everything is delicious and perfect (serving raw meat, in addition to being "not tasty" is simply dangerous). There was no attempt to take responsibility, apologize or resolve the matter. To say that the place is not recommended is to be too gentle, we would recommend staying away from the place like fire, before you catch salmonella 🤮🤮

Wasted money, bad food, rude service All this happened in the restaurant "Grotto Sassello" in the town of Brione in Val Verzasca. The meat was cooked only at the edges and raw in the middle, the fish (trout according to the menu) was rolled in a thick layer of breadcrumbs, dry and without salt, the salad consisted of only lettuce leaves, the cocktails included no more than 10% Aperol and tasted like regular pop, without lemon or orange. When we showed raw meat, we heard that it was a typical roast and everything was ok. At the same time, they simply took the plate away without offering to finish frying it. When we asked for compensation for half the portion, the chef and waitress began to snatch the receipt and shout that if we did not immediately pay the full amount, they would call the police. By the way, the prices in the restaurant are not cheap - the main course is 34 francs. We went to this restaurant specifically, hoping for good reviews. Today this is not the case. Wasted money, bad food and most importantly rude staff. We advise you not to go near this place

The cheeseburger doesn't taste good and is not recommended. That's really interesting. A cheeseburger isn't a beefburger?! In my Twint I find a booking from July 25th, 2022 in Grotto Sassello. So apparently I was there. Attached is a picture of the "Cheeseburger", perhaps the chef will recognize his work. The burger looks good, but as we all know, you can't argue with the taste. Unfortunately, this answer from the owner is not enough for more than one star.

Very nice grotto, with outdoor terrace. Perfect for a lunch break after a walk in the mountains. Very good braised beef (tender meat, melts in the mouth, excellent sauce, very strong flavour, the polenta didn't satisfy us very much, we preferred a more rustic polenta), good grilled trout (salad as a fresh and nice crunchy side dish). As an appetizer, both the cheeses and the cold cuts were excellent. Very good quality/price ratio. Super friendly and helpful staff.

Couldn't look in anymore.😡 Unfriendly young waitress....and the coffee....never had anything like that before, terrible... We were the first guests. Maybe you should rinse the coffee machine first... I didn’t like my food at all. Meat was barely warm and cube of polenta was dry and tasteless. I could guess that it was cooked yesterday. The salad was fresh but sauce are not “home made” (just from supermarket). Prices are hight for that quality of food. The waitress was really nice by the way.

We discovered the small restaurant as we drove past and were incredibly impressed by the very fine dishes. We had starters and desserts and everything was of excellent quality, fresh and very tasty. The service was very friendly and accommodating. We can give an unreserved recommendation for spring.

The only positive point is that the food you get is actually really tasty. Unfortunately, you only get very little of it. And then not even on preheated plates. For just under 32.- you don't get 100g of braised meat, a cube of polenta with an edge length of about 4cm and a dollop of sauce. That's it. You don't even get a vegetable side dish and the filling side dish wasn't filling enough. Very unfortunate. In addition, children don't really seem to be wanted. There are apparently no child seats and no children's menus. When we took the order, the service person didn't ask for an order for our child or bring a plate so that we could share portions with the little one. Although, as mentioned, these weren't large enough to be shared anyway. We weren't asked for wine and even forewent dessert. Simply out of fear of having to pay too much for it. All in all, for the prices asked, we imagined larger portions and a little more Amore for Bambini for a grotto in Italian-speaking Switzerland In any case, we won't be coming back.

As adults, we ordered a children's plate of polenta (which wasn't a problem when we asked), but we suddenly had to pay 18.50 for the handful of polenta instead of 15.50 as on the menu. This way you only get the guests once!👍

Very good, modern interpretation of the well-known Grotto dishes! Perfect bruschetta with a hint of garlic, wonderful affetato misto with cheese, refined with good olive oil and coarse black pepper, a colorful risotto prepared to perfection, tiramisu fato in casa, Gazzosa, Merlot Nostrano and finally the Corretto Grappa. From the super friendly service and warm welcome at the entrance to the grotto and great seating allocation, to the price-performance ratio with this quality of the products processed, there was nothing to complain about. We'll definitely be back!

The young service staff have to ask questions themselves about almost every question. The situation is particularly “funny” when you want to order dessert before the main course. :-) The wine selection is limited to two bottles of red wine, which is a bit small. The menu itself is small but fine - the dishes taste good and are well proportioned. The bottom line is that the address isn't worth a detour, but it's okay for a stopover.

Owner makes each guest wait up to an hour, even though there are over ten tables available. Apparently these are reserved, but no one who has reserved comes. Never again! After a long wait with other guests we moved on.

My wife, some friends and I spent a lovely day in the Val Verzasca with a stop at this quaint little place for lunch. We experienced very friendly service and the food was simple but very tasty and just what we wanted. We discovered a superb goats cheese there which we later purchased from the producer, Azienda Patà, in Sonogno further up the valley in the picturesque village of Sonogno. This Grotto is definitely worth a stop.

Zusätzlich könnten wir auch über die sauberen Gläser mit Finger und Lippenabdrücke noch schreiben die von unseren Vorgängern noch auf den Gläser waren. Und das alles noch in Zeiten von Corona......

Una location molto accogliente e caratteristica, con un personale molto preparato e dotato di una non indifferente gentilezza e disponibilità! Piatti ben presentati con un certo tocco quasi artistico, e soprattutto il cibo è veramente delizioso, con giuste porzioni. Il Grotto Sassello è un connubio tra raffinatezza e bontà, questo ristorante è stato una grande scoperta, da provare assolutamente!

Wir haben Polenta bestellt und frittierte Maispizza erhalten. Salametti war mit 70% Fett bestückt. Die Bedienung war auch sehr unfreundlich. Diese Grotto können wir gar nicht empfehlen.

Siamo stati qui oggi in 2 e abbiamo ordinato un risotto al merlot e un brasato di manzo cotto a bassa temperatura. Risotto molto buono e carne tenera. Il servizio è cordiale. Prezzi elevati ma consigliato.
