Hidmona in Genève

The 2nd time I went there, and I had the tasting menu (with meat). I really recommend this restaurant for the quality of the products, it's in any case a really nice and delicious experience. And the manager is super nice

Food poisoning following the meal. Vegetarian tasting dish however, they must not have been fresh. No, it's not simple indigestion. Disappointed with the advice given, she did not know the difference between spicy and spicy. I have already eaten Ethiopian/Eritrean dishes several times but this is the place where I have been the most disappointed and above all sick. Clearly it's not worth the price, nor the intoxication.

I have tried all the Eritrean and Ethiopian restaurants in Geneva and Hidmona is by far the best of them all. You eat well, each side dish has flavor (even the spinach unlike other restaurants), the meat (which is halal) is tender and not dry at all, the Shiro (chickpea cream) is not too spicy. just what you need, the Injera (cakes) are perfect and the service is top notch. The food is made fresh so you may have to wait a little, but it's well worth it. I prefer this to meals pre-cooked in advance for hours and served in 10 minutes which are not good at all. If you eat there, you can taste lots of good things but above all it is a friendly moment to share with people or with yourself (yes you can go to the restaurant alone, enjoy yourself and have a great time , bring your headphones and enjoy a dish while watching your series (we won't tell you anything). Finally, there is a good atmosphere with pretty decorations and sometimes a little background music from the country and it’s CHEAP.

Well, I don't like it at all, the pancakes are mushy, the takeaway portion is really small, the sauce is not thick with the spices because it's more water than sauce, nothing to do with other Ethiopian restaurants, sorry . I'll have to make an effort, I won't go to this restaurant anymore.😡😡😡

A great place to eat with family or friends. We had the tasting menu. Although the establishment is simple, the food is truly exceptional. Even the pancakes I particularly liked. Don't hesitate to ask the waitress for a fork if you want to get scolded! Here, we eat with our hands and from a common dish; which adds something unique to an experience that I absolutely recommend.

Small restaurant serving excellent Eritrean cuisine, friendly service but a bit of a wait. No choice of dessert apart from the delicious and not too sweet homemade baklava.

The vegan plate is just so good with diverse flavors and textures. The service matches—such warmth and care. Highly recommend.

Fresh and genuine food without too many concessions to the European palate but still some variations on the Eritrean tradition. Beautiful background music and freshly roasted coffee on the grill!

Price between 10 and 20 chf with minus fifty percent with the fork….. it was really a great discovery of Ethiopian cuisine; the homemade tea is excellent; only complaint the dishes arrived lukewarm coordination kitchen service to review? In any case thank you very very good!!!!!

Very tasty and varied food. On our palate we felt it was a little spicy (diners used to eating without excessive spiciness). He eats with his hands and we shared a large tray with the whole family. The service far below the level of the food. We were served by a young girl who gave us the impression that she was having a lot of fun talking with her colleagues and took a long time to serve us (we were two tables in the entire restaurant). It should be added that he didn't know how to explain well what the African food they served consisted of and he conveyed his discomfort at our ignorance of the type of food they served. The restaurant is clean and has a nice atmosphere, although for my taste the music is a bit loud. We got it for half the price by booking through the Tenedor app

We had a great evening at Hidmona with delicious food and a very attentive service. We had the tasting menu and enjoyed trying a number of different dishes at once. It was also nice to see the dish being finished right at the table. The homemade tea is highly recommended and pairs well with the food.

We really enjoyed the flavor of the dishes. The tasting plate is a good compromise if you want to discover several specialties. The Doroh (chicken) is tender and the accompanying marinade is delicious. I give 4 stars because the service can be a little disorganized but the kindness more than makes up for this small deficiency. We will come back!

Very pleasant evening at the Hidmona restaurant last night. We had the opportunity to discover this restaurant thanks to Assiette Geneveoise. We ate very well (discovery menu, tea and baclava for dessert). There is a high chair for babies but plan a meal for the little ones (not a problem for us). Good value for money! Rather slow food restaurant. I recommend !

I've been eating here since they first opened and I should have written this before. Doris is a great host. Food is consistently high level. You will not find products that are not fresh and cooked to order. No shortcuts are made in quality and taste. If you have the opportunity to try the coffee, go for it. It's a cultural experience and the coffee is great. This is a place where I invite my dear friends for dinner, knowing that they will have a true experience and a tasty memory. Very friendly staff, and cosy nicely decorated interior. I have tried both their dinner and brunch meals. The brunch was something new for me, 25 francs for a buffet style authentic brunch plus a hot drink, which I found very reasonable. I especially enjoyed their tea with spices. And If you like , they serve coffee on the house.

We tried the menu dégustation. Everything on there was delicious, but our top favourite dish was the kulwa. The service was great. We could also speak English with her (she had noticed we spoke English together). Altogether a great restaurant and we’ll definitely come back!

Recently visited Hidmona with a large group based on the recommendation of a friend. Was the perfect evening, the food was delicious! Plenty of unique spices and variety - esp loved the kitfo. We had between us the meat platter and vegetarian platter, both of which were incredibly tasty and interesting. Had never tried Eritrean cuisine before, but would definitely visit again in the future!

They were a bit short-handed when we visited (a few months ago, but I was wanting to return and thought I'd write a review), so our food arrived slowly. That said, the service was very friendly and attentive, it was just the one person in the kitchen seemed overwhelmed and it must've been a challenge to keep up with in-person dining as well as the delivery orders. When the food arrived, it was absolutely delicious and I'd actually say it was worth the wait in the end, and they definitely didn't skimp on quality.

La présentation était correcte mais nous avons constaté que cette cuisine n'était pas celle que nous aimons manger. Peut-être dans l'ambiance du restaurant, nous l'aurions appréciée différemment.

Excellent, I had half-cooked kifto (Ethiopian tartare), the dish contained spinach, lentils and 3 injeras. I was very full, I recommend. It's spicy!

J'ai testé tous les restaurants éthiopiens/érythréens de Genève et Hidmona est pour moi un niveau au desses de tous les autres. Très bonne qualité des plats. Mention spéciale pour le Kitfo et le Kulwa.

Delicious! I was afraid because this type of cuisine is often delicious on site but less so when delivered. And the surprise, ultra fast delivery even before time, generous portions and well packaged. Authentic taste, a real delight.

I got takeaway from Hidmona last evening. I ordered their vegetarian tasting menu - everything was delicious and authentic (unlike a lot of other restaurants in Geneva that temper their offerings to local tastes). The proprietor was lovely too - we had a nice conversation and she gave me an unexpected though very appreciated discount. I will be going back. Thanks, Hidmona!

Top service, very warm and friendly. Sober and very pretty decor. Delicious dish. The meat was succulent. Delicious and refreshing wine. The fermented honey drink is good, interesting flavor and a good discovery. Good value for money. I recommend and will return.

Great food, great service. The Ketfo degustation menu was very diverse and the samossa sauce was to die for. I liked it so much that the staff gave me some of it to go, which was nice. Now, we'll have to go back to try their vegetarian options. UPDATE: I tried the vegetarian degustation menu, it's worth a special visit. I really mean it, the main dish is luscious, silky and really rich tasting. UPDATE 2: their Saturday brunch is a great value, I really like it, I really like this place.

We had a lovely brunch at this Eritrean restaurant on Saturday with the Food & Friends meetup group. The food was good and the atmosphere was nice — I would recommend this if you’re looking for new interesting cuisine to try.
