Hohsaas in Saas-Grund

Visited with day tickets from Raiffeisen. Very affordable child-friendly ski area. We have never experienced such amounts of snow on Hohsaas in 20 years.

Area is small and pistes where unprepared even with 20cm of fresh snow. The runs are quite fun though and scenery is stunning.

Two points annoyed me and that's why I deducted 2 stars: 1) The T-bar lift apparently doesn't always run due to a lack of staff. But since customers pay for it, I think it's inappropriate if you can't keep it running. If the T-bar lift is not running, there are longer waiting times at the button lift, which is annoying when the children have to queue for a long time at the ski school. 2) There is no upgrade option to be able to travel for 1 or 2 days in Saas Almagell or Saas Fee. If you buy a 6-day pass and want to go to a nearby ski area, this is only possible if you also buy another day pass there. There is such an upgrade option between Saas Almagell and Saas Fee. I find it quite inflexible that the Hohsaas Bergbahnen cannot offer something like this. Conclusion: Good for 1 week with children, unfortunately it is too small for me for longer or there are not enough options and slopes. If there was an upgrade option for the other ski areas, I would have considered coming back. Here are the details: Good skiers can expect two or, depending on the snow conditions, three beautiful slopes from Hohsaas to Kreuzboden. From Hohsaas you have a great view of the beautiful mountains with the Trift Glacier. Rather small but nice and family-friendly ski area. The 35 km of slopes probably also include valley runs (paths) and children's lifts. In reality there are probably a little less, but certainly more than in Saas Almagell. In Kreuzboden there is a magic carpet, a button lift and a T-bar lift. Ideal for beginners and for ski school. The piste from Kreuzboden to Trift is also well suited for beginners. The steep part can be avoided with a path.

The cable car might look small from the Saas-Grund base station, but the climb and the view on top is incredible.

Very nice view at the top and beautiful glacier slopes. However, after a week of skiing it became a bit boring for me as I like a lot of variety and am a fast skier. Over time a few stones appeared on the slope, but fortunately the descent into the valley was still possible in mid-February.

Spent a big chunk of my summer exploring the trails all around Saas Grund on a mt bike. It was mind bending! The trails are legit, technical, old school mt biking. Once I got the lay of the land, I was able to put together large rides every day. Saas Grund is new to the mt biking game and you should definitely go before it gets crowded. There were days when I would be on the trails for 8 hours and see just one person. I found myself falling asleep at night dreaming about what the next day..nothing short of epic!!

12 euros for a day ticket for the parking lot. 40 euros for a trip up and down the mountain and this at operating times that hardly make it possible to climb to the summit and get back to the valley in time. At the valley station I wanted to inquire about the snow conditions on the mountain. "I'm not allowed to give you any information about that. You have to call one of the 3 telephone numbers of the mountain rescue service and ask there!" In the most unfriendly tone I have ever experienced. I don't want to call anywhere. Which is just unnecessarily expensive in Switzerland. I expect that as a service to me a passenger transport company can say what risks await me at the destination. No other country in the Alps is as backward in all its processes as Switzerland. A greedy, lazy people that makes you lose your desire to travel. Was just in Saas Grund from June 16th to June 23rd, 2022. With the SaasCard, in addition to the buses, you could also use the mountain railways (mountain railways only included in summer). The view is wonderful and just like having a coffee at 3200m.

Beautiful hiking area in summer with numerous hiking trails and cozy, sunny ski area in winter with cozy huts, delicious food and a beautiful panorama. In winter we recommend the descent from Hohsaas via Kreuzboden to Saas-Grund via the homeward slope. Many different sections with different levels of difficulty and relaxed sections to enjoy. In summer it's worth renting scooters on Kreuzboden and taking a quick ride home along the well-developed road or refreshing yourself at the Seeli. We've been going there for almost 20 years and it's always a real pleasure!

Underestimated ski areal. Comparing to Saas Fee it's obviously smaller, but all trails were perfectly prepared and whole day of skiing didn't change that. Less crowded and cheaper. Absolutely great place! Ski pass without deposit, which comparing to Sas Fee is big advantage, as in Sas Fee you need to buy ski card for 5 CF which you own without possibility to return. Totally recommmend it!

From Saas-Grund you have many opportunities to practice winter sports. The Hohsaasbahn goes up to 3200m. There is a good ski school in the middle station at 2400m. The ski area can be reached quickly from the village. Important during Corona times are 8-person and 6-person H gondolas and ski lifts.
