Cozy atmosphere with good service, good wine tuna dish was good ,ravioli not up to standard!! (Ordinary).

Visit on March 8th, 2024. It was great! The food, the wine, the service, the atmosphere. Everything 1A! Gianni and his team pamper their guests in every way! The menu selection is very clear, which is a very positive thing here. Because it is cooked absolutely fresh. It therefore takes a few minutes for the food to arrive. That's the price for top quality. And what there is is wonderful! Here emphasis is placed on quality and not on quantity. The restaurant is absolutely recommended. Keep it up! We will be back!

Kicked out at 8:30 PM, two hours before the 10 PM closing time, because the place was empty, and staff wanted to leave early. As if that weren't enough, staff started closing up right next to us—putting away tables and extinguishing candles. Unacceptable and disappointing. (We spent 120chf for two ravioli dishes and two glasses of red wine)

Small, fine restaurant. Very uncomplicated, although the reservation didn't work out properly (there was no network...) we were able to choose a comfortable table for two. The menu card consists of a handwritten slate. The various menus are presented to you by the staff and explained if necessary. The food, which is freshly prepared in the small kitchen, tastes fantastic. You can even watch the chef prepare something. The restaurant is a bit hidden. If I hadn't looked for something near the Teufelhof Theater and read the positive reviews, we probably wouldn't have gone there. We would like to come again!

Visiting HOSTARIA for the first time - and definitely not the last time. Is a homely restaurant. It's impressive what the kitchen has to offer - considering the tight space. The host team does a great job. (PS: very close to 5 stars)

Yesterday we (7 people) visited the Hostaria. Ambiance: OK Service: long waiting time despite very manageable size Food: house drink very good Food OK but nothing special despite the small menu Tarte flambée was offered to bridge the long wait. The price was not mentioned. The tarte flambées were good, but the bill revealed that they were extraordinarily expensive at 30.00 (bacon) and 34.00 (serano). The food was OK, but nothing special The chef is out and the owner has taken over in the kitchen. In my opinion, the price-performance ratio was not justified. The owner came with a tarte flambée after we questioned the prices on the bill.

I have never seen a tarte flambée for 34.00 CHF in my life. You can find it here. 8 tortellini as a main course cost just under 30.00 CHF. Craziness. But service was very nice and accommodating and the atmosphere was appealing.

Thank you for this great evening!!! First of all, for those who don't like reading: Go! It is worth it .. The dishes are very tasty and the owner is an absolute top host. Rarely experienced like this. We made a reservation for 2 people (mandatory). It is a small, very cozy restaurant with a nice interior. There is a small menu that can always look a little different depending on the season. The boss himself explains everything! You can watch/listen to the chef at work as the preparation takes place directly behind the "bar". Nevertheless, the background noise is not a problem at all. We had a small wine tasting where we chose the house wine (see picture). The quality of the dishes is of a very high level. Fresh pasta (triangoli) - homemade. Great bruschetta as a starter. And the meat was AMAZING! We will come back in any case. Thank you Gianni!

Walked in, venue was quite busy, all 4 staff/bar members just stared at us. I asked if there was a table for 2 available, I was ignored, I asked again, the lady shook her head- I mentioned the table out front was free and we were happy to sit outside, she nodded, we sat outside for 15 minutes with no menu. In the end we walked off. Disappointed to say the least.

Expensive because it is in Swiss. Good place, not in the caos but very cose to the pedestrian area. Good food and very kind. We had a quick stop for a light dinner on our way to Amsterdam... just 10 minutes from the highway. Good option and good beer. Suggested to go.

Tasty selection of food in a charming, small restaurant. Service is friendly and funny and contributes to a familiar and fun mood.

The small restaurant is very good. The staff is excellent. The map is relatively small and changes quite often. But a small card is more of a quality feature. It doesn't work in the kitchen either. The staff is very friendly and the boss (?) seems to put his heart and soul into it. I recommend making reservations... especially on weekends.

Please do make an effort and find this place which is just off the main thoroughfare. It is very good. Menu is small, on a board and is clearly changing often. House wine is excellent. My pasta was full of flavour and cooked perfectly! It was clearly home made. Bliss!

Super delicious food in a very cozy atmosphere and with a very friendly staff. The menu is small, but the food is freshly cooked and there is also something for vegetarians. We were completely happy and would definitely come back the next time we visit Basel!

We found this amazing restaurant by chance while walking back to our hotel. The welcome was warm and the menu - though small - completely sufficient. When you see the small size of the open kitchen you understand why they choose to limit the choices. The food was delicious, beautifully presented and the pasta was locally made and piping hot. We will definitely return next trip.

Delightful, small, authentic restaurant. The patron is always present and you can watch the chef in the small kitchen as he prepares these wow dishes. And then there's the wine: fine bottled wines served by the glass. You don't find it every day either. Lovely again!

Probably the best nüssli salat i've ever had. And then they talked about pasta made without eggs. Meh. Well guess what. Those were amazing too! And so was the wine. Seriously, this place rocks. I'm going back there 100%!

Insider tip in Basel. If you are looking for a cozy atmosphere with really good food, the hostaria is a must. There are three menus at lunch and a small menu in the evening. The restaurant is very small. That's why I would strongly recommend a reservation. The food is made with a lot of love and is therefore very tasty. The host Gianni is also very friendly and concerned about the well-being of the guests. Gianni, we'll be back 🤗

We had dinner as a family of 4 in this lovely small restaurant. Authentic food, home made pasta, large portions and very tasty. Friendly staff - highly recommended!

All but one table was empty. But he said all tables were reserved. After an hour or two I ate somewhere else and noticed that most of the tables were empty as I walked past. I felt racially discriminated against. I'm sorry.

This place is a must in Basel! The falmmkuchen was out of this world! Super unique and packed with flavor. Pasta is classic, fresh and homemade. Menu changes based on availability. Owner will pair a specific glass of wine based on your menu decision - and the wine he recommended was so amazing that we had to take a photo! You won’t be disappointed!

Super nice and friendly service. The food was incredibly good. The homemade pasta is just perfect. A visit is 100% worth it. It is very well presented and very harsh. Sven in his small kitchen is an absolute legend and served food for our group of 11 people almost at the same time. Incredible performance. Be sure to try the tarte flambées, you can smell them right from the door and they are very, very good. Thanks again for the great evening!

The Hostaria in Basel is always worth a visit. On our last visit, we received great service as always and the host pampered us. As always, the food was delicious and I can only recommend that you order the “Plattli” with delicious specialties. Gianni, you're doing great and you never lost heart and persevered during the difficult times of Corona. For this you will get 10 stars separately from me and Mara. Top address in Basel for a cozy get-together with great food.

Not sure about all the positive reviews...the menu is very small (may be 7 items including desserts and salades). Basically nothing to choose from. Service is slow. It is overpriced. May be when covid restrictions are over, it will be better. As of now, I highly ..not recommend.

Wir waren hin und weg...Zu unserer zivilen Trauung wurden wir von dem Team bekocht und bedient. Es war die optimale Lösung in dieser schwierigen Zeit mit Corona. Es war ein unvergessliches Ereignis.Wir können die Hostaria wärmstens weiterempfehlen. Gerne wieder, sei es bei uns zu Hause oder in der Hostaria.

Klein, warm, lecker und super freundlich! Keine 5-seitige Menus und Massenanfertigung, NEIN! Jedes Gericht ist frisch und jeden Tag ein neues Menu, da muss man nicht lange überlegen und entscheiden, es gibt was es gibt (etwa 3x zur Auswahl) und es ist immer super lecker. Wein vom feinsten und Gianni ist einfach ein super Gastgeber. Immer wieder gerne hier!

Super schöne Ambiente, sehr heimelig. Im familiären Rahmen. Super Einrichtung im rustikalen Touch. Essen wie ein Traum und die Weinauswahl rundet alles hervorragend ab. Personal super freundlich und sehr zuvorkommend.

Selten haben wir in Basel so gut gegessen - ein Crossover aus italienischer Küche und Spezialitäten aus der Puschlav/Veltlin Region. Die Bewirtung war ausserordentlich freundlich und zuvorkommend, wir haben uns sehr wohlgefühlt und kommen bald wieder!
