Pure Gastfreundschaft - auch in COVID-Zeiten Wir haben im Dezember 2020 zwei Nächte im Hotel Alpsu verbracht, weil uns im Vorjahr das Abendessen überzeugt hat. Geführt wird es von einem Wirtepaar, das jegliche Wünsche erfüllt. Nicht nur verfügt das Restaurant über eine riesige Spirituosen-Auswahl, auch heisses Wasser für den Touren-Tee haben wir erhalten. Freundlich und aufmerksam sind sie ohnehin. Das Essen im Restaurant ist nach wie vor köstlich und seinen Preis wert. Unser Zweier-Zimmer war so sauber, dass ich glaubte, es sei erst gerade saniert worden. Es war gemütlich und ruhig. Da es auf die Oberalpstrasse gerichtet ist, welche im Sommer von Motorrädern frequentiert wird, vermute ich, dass es im Sommer etwas lauter ist. Im Sommer würde ich deshalb ein Zimmer auf der Bergseite buchen.

Wir waren für 3 Nächte im Hotel Alpsu. Unser Zimmer war zweckdienlich und sehr sauber. Das Zimmer hatte kleine Fenster und somit eher wenig Tageslicht - aber wenn man sowieso viel draussen ist, spielt das keine grosse Rolle.Wegen Corona waren nur Hotelgäste im Restaurant erlaubt - die Speisekarte war deshalb etwas kleiner als sonst. Wir haben aber super lecker gegessen. Suppe, Salat, Fleisch und Gemüse - alles ist SEHR gut gekocht. Auch bei der Weinauswahl wird man nicht enttäuscht!Das Frühstück ist sehr gut. Es gibt richtig gutes Ruchbrot, Gipfeli, Konfitüre, frisches Müesli, Käse, Fleisch und auch Eier, Kaffee und sehr guten Tee.Man wird hier wirklich toll als Gast aufgenommen und kulinarisch verwöhnt. Die Bedienung ist sehr nett. Wir waren schon mehrmals im Hotel Alpsu zu Gast und werden auch wiederkommen. Die Gastgeberin kocht wirklich ausgezeichnet!

On our second night we tried a Capuns (very clearly a must try when you come here) and a Cordon Bleu. Both were perfect and probably the best we’ve ever had. The Alpsu already looked full, but I was lucky enough to secure one of the few remaining tables for two for myself. Not long after I arrived, the staff were already having to turn away less fortunate hopefuls.The waitress was keen to tell me the two specials that were not on the menu: a salad with warm chanterelles featuring the house’s signature dressing with blueberries (which you can also buy to take home with you) and a beef stroganoff with rœsti. What you should really order, of course, is the house (and regional) speciality of capuns, which consists of rolls of spaetzli drough encasing the region’s famous air-dried meat, the whole thing wrapped in chard leaves. And when the bottle was presented to me in the true Swiss style, I was astonished to see that the whisky had actually been bottled in 2000. So it was distilled in 1974, some 45 years ago. My whisky-mad father did some research and found that the distillery had long since been demolished and that a bottle of this particular vintage (of which only 264 were filled) cost upwards of £500, making that 11.50 glass seem even more of a bargain.The evening was made all the more pleasant by the attentive staff, all of whom served me at one point or another and all asked how everything was. To top it all the chef herself came out at the end of service and went to every table to ask how their meals were. She even asked me how the Stroganoff was (how did she know I’d had it? She was working one floor above!) so I made a point of complementing her on how well the meat was cooked.All in all, it was a thoroughly enjoyable evening for what was, by Swiss standards, a reasonable price of under 100 Swiss francs, considering that I had had three courses, a beer, 3dl of wine and that whisky.
