Five of us went to eat there. The ambience is upper class. Very nicely done. The service was good, as expected in this price range. But things look drastically different when it comes to eating. I had a cordon bleu that looked and tasted like a frozen product. Like in the canteen. My other half had the Wiener Schnitzel. It would have been great if they hadn't skewered a fish in the middle of the schnitzel as a decoration. The whole schnitzel tasted like fish. That was horrible. We don't like fish. That just doesn't belong on a schnitzel. Unfortunately, the fries didn't convince me either with their own spice mix. I personally didn't like it. We decided to eat dessert somewhere else. All in all, a disappointing dinner for us for a price that was far too high. Despite the lovely atmosphere, we won't be eating there again.

The food was good quality and reasonably priced. The service was attentive and quick. Nice place, but in the basement you're a bit out of the way.

It was okay, but I expect more from a restaurant with a name like that. In addition, the white wine should be served with a certain degree of cold.

Excellent food, magnificent place. Everything was almost perfect except…. The wait of more than 1 hour 30 minutes between the order and the arrival of the dishes. Our waitress was polite but they didn't even bother to offer us a digestive or anything else to apologize for the really long delay.

Place looks gorgeous, however, we were waiting long time to be served. Aperol spritz had no alcohol at all. High prices made us think food is lovely, unfortunately out of 3 starters and 3 main dishes ONLY carrot/orange soup and baked Trout was delicious. Not even once we were approached by the waiter/waitress after we received the food. We definitely WONT come back.

I really liked the ambience & the food was 10/10. What I found very impressive was that the main course came immediately after the starter without a long wait!

Unfortunately, the “Berner Geschnetzeltes” was disappointing. The veal wasn't particularly tender, the taste of the sauce was unsatisfactory and the rösti wasn't convincing either. Overall, unfortunately, an unsatisfactory experience for the price.

What a welcome from this beautiful location! My friend from Bern made reservations here for us at the end of January. I was literally overwhelmed by the sight of the Kornhauskeller as soon as you climbed down the stairs. The staff was a bit "stressed" but always friendly, helpful and attentive. The food was very tasty. I had the veal liver with hash browns. Simply a pleasure! I'd love to come back when I'm in Bern.

A restaurant in the center of Bern where you can enjoy local dishes that will delight many. They also have an extensive and highly recommended wine list.

Kornhauskeller was a great experience. Food was quite good (but not a great value), service was good, and the atmosphere was fantastic. I would take people back here and recommend it for the first time in the city, but the relatively low value for money keeps it from 5 stars for me.

This shop was originally a warehouse that was renovated into a restaurant and bar, and when you go down to the basement, you'll find a wonderful space.

Very bad experience with one of the French-speaking servers. We call the establishment on a Saturday at 1:09 p.m. to find out if it is still possible to have lunch in 30 minutes. The staff on the other end of the phone confirms this and we reserve a table. We arrive at 1:44 p.m. at the restaurant “reception” where we announce our reservation. The same person we spoke to on the phone, in a contemptuous and aggressive tone, blames us for arriving late. (We were indeed 5 minutes late…) He is then completely stubborn in accusing us of not having arrived on time and that he therefore cannot welcome us. We then explain to him that we don't mind changing establishments if the Kornhaus kitchen is closed and that it would have been better to give us advance notice when booking and not accuse us when we arrive... In short, we didn't waste more than 5 minutes with such an obnoxious and stubborn person, it was a shame knowing that the establishment usually offers very good services...

Very good cuisine, exceeded service when the room is full (very long waiting time) and magnificent and unique setting. Live music at the bar on the 1st floor: really nice. On the other hand, the cocktails are outraged at this place, hire real bartenders because cCapirinha and Moscow mule were really bad (24.2.24)!!!!

The food was clearly microwaved the tomato soup came boiling with a crust on top and the filet mignon was very rubbery. Very beautiful architecture though.

Superb restaurant, everything is very good. Great atmosphere, excellent meal and always quality despite a large number of visitors. The only downside is the reception staff who really seem to be stressed by a very large number of reservations. I highly recommend this address in Bern!

Bern is one of the most beautiful and pleasant cities in Switzerland. With a lot of charming places to explore. One of those places that deserves a visit is the Kornhauskeller. It's both a bar and a restaurant in a breathtaking "basement." If you choose to eat, then make sure to make a reservation. If you just want to sip a cocktail or other fine drink, then you can just take a seat at the bar or in one of the lounge chairs. Obviously it's not the cheapest place but given the location right in the city centre and the atmosphere, it's worth it.

After 20 minutes of waiting without even a glance from the bar waitresses (3 for 5/6 customers) we decide to go elsewhere to spend our money. Too bad, the place is very pretty. We won't come back.

The beauty of the place is spoiled by the ugliness of the upper bar staff. We were 3 customers, 3 waitresses. After 20 minutes of waiting without even a hello, we left, and we will not return.

I have been going to this restaurant for 38 years, very good food, wonderful environment and admirable service.

Sadly, the restaurant was disappointing. While the food was great, it’s just not acceptable to be left waiting for 40 minutes before receiving the drinks ordered right after arriving. 40 minutes at an empty table just ruins the mood. And it did not get better afterwards. Some things we ordered were simply forgotten. The bar is still my absolute favourite in Bern though, maybe even in Switzerland. Und das sägi als Zürcher :)

I think the atmosphere is great and also unexpected. The service was tried hard and also at full capacity. The food was ok.

That was the worst meal in years! Truffle pastas were so bad, not salted and overcooked. My friends from the USA left the food. The Chef de Service had zero interest in feedback. This place is an absolute no-go for me and my customers.

The visit was on Friday, around 1 p.m., 3 people, no reservation. Unfortunately, we had to wait a bit when we arrived until one (of the many) free tables was assigned to us. Location very nice, a bit dark, but that's fine. Service at the table was very friendly and accommodating. Food very good. Gladly again!

Very nice atmosphere, inside a cellar with very beautiful decor, paintings, murals, ceiling height. The cuisine is very fine and well presented unfortunately my vegan sweet potato burger is much too stuffy. For desserts I loved the chocolate fondant! The prices are correct for the decor, the service and the cuisine justifies it (count 50.- per person for a lunch and 70.- for a dinner.

Excellent dinner in a typical and splendid Bernese location. The white wine soup is delicious and the potato rosti is very tasty. Perfect service and prices average for the area, therefore high (but with a good quality-price ratio).

I am overwhelmed! The Kornhauskeller really takes your breath away. The ambience is sensational. A friend took me to this wonderful place. When you go down the stairs into the restaurant you can't imagine what awaits you. The architecture is breathtaking. The bar is huge as is the selection. Priced absolutely according to the location. The Amaretto Sour was perfect, the best I've ever had. You feel completely comfortable, so comfortable that you don't want to leave anymore. The whole atmosphere is reminiscent of a John Wick film. I'm extremely looking forward to the next visit. For me the best restaurant in Bern.

Location is beautiful, food is mediocre. We got dried out bread beforehand, and the main course was simple. Wine was fine! The service was not that good, you get the feeling that the staff does not know what they are doing. Shame! I was here about 10 years ago and it was great then. It seems to have been taken over?

We had read that this location is a must in Bern. The ambience is of course unbeatable, but that's about it. We and other guests around us could only read the menu using the flashlight function on our smartphone, which is relatively laborious and can be solved differently today. Waiting time to order drinks was 35 minutes. Then everything went very quickly with the starter and main course. My rösti with the veal slices was totally over salted, overall there was no value for money. My sympathy for the service staff who were constantly wandering around and didn't know where the food was supposed to go. Why do I, as a guest in a restaurant, have to endure the booming bass of cheap speakers from the bar (it wasn't any better in the bar)? There were now several coats lying on the floor at the cloakrooms recommended by the service. The actually beautiful women's toilets were already 50% "different...". After the main course, the staff was focused on newly arriving guests, so we were happy when we were able to pay the bill of 270 CHF. Maybe the focus should be more on improving overall performance rather than long response to reviews?

Let’s start where it hurts: the terrible service we received tonight. It seemed indeed that the young man responsible for our table was overloaded, but it doesn’t excuse the swearing we heard from him in the background. It took ages just to be able to have him come for the dessert order after several requests. Then, when the dessert arrived, it wasn’t what we ordered. We asked if this is the Winter Plumb and Cinnamon Ice Cream. « Yes it is ». Then, confused, we tried, called him again « where is the cinnamon ice cream? » and he pointed at some vanilla mousse and went away. We asked a manager, and he confirmed its the wrong dessert. On the food side, the Winter dishes were very good (enjoyed the chestnut soup and Gluwine Plumb with cinnamon ice cream). The traditional Berner main course was pretty standard. While you can’t beat the atmosphere of such a place, the service was just a painful experience.

Beautiful, historic location. Good kitchen. It's loud when the house is full. In front of the large barrel there is a small stage that is good for bands and other entertainment.

Eat + Large vegan selection - Not nicely presented -Sometimes the taste is a bit bland service + Very friendly waiter - If the guests order vegan, you should also offer the butter, bread and biscuits with the coffee as vegan or at least point out that they are not vegan. Very nice restaurant with a great ambience. The food was very tasty and, apart from the freshness of the lettuce, the quality was also very good. The shortcoming lies in the service, which unfortunately did not seem very coordinated, not attentive and not very motivated. It's a shame, this unfortunately ruins the otherwise good overall impression.

It is such a pretty place. Very rich, service was so sweet, we were served by an amazing Russian lady. Food quality is amazing,portions were big. icecream was super nice.

You just cannot charge this money because you got nice frescos... Had a table reservation for two. The moment we arrived, nothing was "reserved" and had to wait a good amount of time in order to be greeted to a table. All the tables are too close to each other and in a matter of 1h:30 min there were 3 happy birthdays to 3 different tables. At first it was nice but then it got trivial. I was wondering if I ended up in a McDonalds tram. The waiter that was in charge of our table was clumsy and very distracted. The rush and his frustration were carried away throughout the whole service experience. The food...extremely salty. The starter, the soup, the main course everything was salty. And the irony of it all was that the water was brought too late. We ordered lamb with spinach and the lamb had a fishy taste..weird...and the spinach was watery sign that it was defrosted and then fried. I find this repulsive if you charge over 50 CHF for 100 grams of lamb and some random defrosted spinach. We rushed towards the exit since we decided not to order any dessert since the experience was so awful....

The food was oversalted and the service only brought us the water we ordered after the starters - a faupax. The "large" version of the beef carpaccio was a joke. The service has no class and is superficial. The tables are too close together for this price range. The ambience reflects neither the service nor the food. To avoid.

The ambience is uniquely beautiful and the offerings are excellent. The classic dishes are complemented by a seasonal one. Everything was very delicious. Only the service isn't great. Completely reserved during the week - luckily we had reserved. Very long waiting times for service. However, after 30 minutes of sitting with the menu, food came quite quickly. Serving cutlery was only 2 forks instead of spoon & fork - Zurich pot with sauce was heavy without a spoon. Had to wait forever for spoons again - not great given the prices... But otherwise everything was great. Price for food & ambience top - service flop!

Would be a nice location, but as an allergy sufferer with a soy allergy, I was served a soy dish. I had it 3! once said and asked. Even had the staff 2!! I was sent to the kitchen again to ask and both times I was told that I could eat the food. The third time it was mentioned in the subordinate clause that it was made with soy. Absolutely intolerable! As a replacement I received boiled potatoes with overcooked vegetables and a snarky comment from the waitress. Dealing with allergies is absolutely substandard! Disappointment on the whole level!

A magnificent place to dream! Excellent cuisine and the wines of Bern are delicious. The decoration is simply magical combined with classical music for ambiance and a fantastic Christmas tree! Only 4 stars for the service because of a very dirty glass and the lack of information that there is a private event right after...so we had to stress at the end to free up the place....but coffee offered by the chef! Nice gesture!

On November 22nd, 2023 we have reserved a table for 10 people for a birthday dinner with the request that the location be as decentralized and quiet as possible. Unfortunately, we were given the most central table and despite being told not to even put up any decorations - this was the first time we've experienced that. Unfortunately it continued and we had to wait an eternity until we were served and the orders were taken. After we were finally able to order, we waited an eternity for the food - orders that consisted of 2 courses required another waiting time of about 1 hour, so we were only served the last main course about 2.5 hours after we arrived, even though we were there I actually had no appetite at all for a while. To our further disappointment, the portions were extremely small for their price: just under CHF 70 for 5 slices of Chateaubriand is an absolute disgrace and everyone present complained about the small portions. We pointed out to the staff that almost everything that could go wrong when visiting a restaurant had gone wrong and were then put off with a "There are a lot of people here today, although there were even more people present yesterday." Tip: Maybe organize yourself differently and plan better - it's probably not the only day on which you'll be busy and it's an absolute no-go for a restaurant like this!

We spontaneously went to the Kornhauskeller on Saturday evening with a larger group without a reservation and quickly got a table. The food was good, although not great. There is better in this price segment. The impressive location is convincing. Unfortunately the service was very stressful. For example, I couldn't order a drink and was automatically poured wine, even though I expressly refused. If individuals in the group took too long to order, the service reacted irritably. Otherwise, the staff is attentive and was willing to intervene when an intoxicated guest spoke to our daughter.

An excellent address to remember. Everything was perfect, welcome, service and cuisine and the setting, we don't even talk about it. Restaurants the way we like them, with friendly and well-trained staff, traditional Bernese dishes and so much more. A lot of work to retain or renew a demanding clientele, but who knows how to recognize a quality establishment. The Kornhauskeller is definitely one of them, thank you for this good time spent at your place!

Had to wait a long time for the drinks, 20 minutes isn't enough

We went there twice in 2 weeks. The first time, the venison escalope (44.- CHF) was not of good quality, with sinews, and relatively hard. The second time, we tried the beef fillet (58.- CHF). The quantity is really tiny and the quality good but nothing extraordinary. It's really a scandal for this price. In addition, the bread as a starter was no longer served. The servers were very stressed and not smiling at all. They seemed overwhelmed by the number of customers. The setting is magnificent, however, nothing justifies such high prices for good but not exceptional quality, and a very mixed reception. In the end, we will not return and we do not recommend this restaurant. Go see the room, but don't stop there to eat, it's not worth the price.

Amazing experience ! Very nice place, near to the centre of Berna. The most value is the beautiful and ancient architecture of the place, that combined the tradition and the elegant.

Clearly one of the most beautiful rooms in the city. The service and food are very good and at a very high level. And the whiskey selection at the bar leaves nothing to be desired. Probably the only bar that has Augustiner Edelstoff on the menu, which keeps me coming back there again and again. Keep it up.

In Bern perhaps one of the most beautiful but still good places there is. Stumbled upon it by chance but a pleasant surprise. You are not in a financial situation but the kitchen churns out excellent dishes. We tried the venison fillet and a cordon bleu and, I must say, they fully met our expectations. Excellent service and "noble" location. Worth trying but think carefully before entering, it's not a restaurant.

Ordered Chateauxbriand. 1st delivery great, then waited over half an hour for the 2nd part. No wine was given, no response to requests as to when the second part would come. Price increase is okay, but the service is very disappointing!

Extremely nice location, food good, service friendly but the waiting time is enormous.

Unfortunately the waiting times seem to be getting longer and longer. On our last visit to the bar we waited 45 minutes for the drinks and 30 minutes for the bill. Unfortunately, this no longer seems to be compatible with the rather higher prices.

A location with incredible flair. I've been a guest here for a long time. Unfortunately, the service is decreasing, a signature cocktail costs 17.-, although there are no nuts or chips even if you ask. In my opinion, this is part of an aperitif. What a shame! // Update: 6 months later - same scenario. Waited 25 minutes before we could place our order. Very disappointing!
