The dry chocolate croissant could be swallowed together with the coffee. It's better to look for a close alternative for pastries. Enough for coffee.

Large selection of breads etc for breakfast. Pleasant, friendly service and atmosphere. I prefer to come here than eat at the hotel.

This afternoon I was with my wife at Kuhn Back & Gastro at Untertor 34, near Winterthur main station. Because it's self-service here, the first thing we did was reserve one of the few tables for ourselves. Then we ordered from the very friendly and helpful ladies at the counter: a focaccia with vegan filling, a tuna sandwich, a coffee and a cappuccino. The focaccia was crispy and tasted very good with the vegetable filling. My wife said the same thing about the sandwich. The coffees were good and came with a glass of water. As in some self-service restaurants, the cleaning here is unsatisfactory. We had to clear crumbs from the table and seating. Unfortunately, no money is made from cleaning and is therefore always carried out as a secondary priority. However, the reputation could suffer.

The positive first. They have oat milk and it is possible to get a plant-based hot chocolate. The same cannot be said about the food. They have, if any, a vegan sandwich option, but every time I come by it seems to be sold out. And last time the waitress didn't even know whether butter or mozzarella was vegan or not. I was then sold a sandwich as vegan, which I then discovered contained butter and mayonnaise. I find this very disappointing from a shop in the middle of the city of Winterthur.

I was with them today at 8:20 and that was the last time!!! I asked the saleswoman for 2 croissants and 1 Berliner: can I please, and then I got such a stupid answer: I don't know if you're allowed! So what kind of condition is that??! Really cheeky, you should be happy that you have a job. I will never buy anything from them again, I pay more up there but I get nice service!!

Unfortunately, the sandwiches are very thinly topped for the price.

The coffee with milk was very cold. I told the girl and she told me that she had asked for the cold milk. Yeah. Of course, but no ice cream and all the coffee came out on the plate. Very unfriendly, very bad service.

Today we were drinking coffee around 4:30 p.m., I asked the lady with the dark hair and glasses if I could please have another glass of cold water with the espresso, since the other one was already warm. That was too much work for this lady! If looks could kill, I wouldn't be able to write this review anymore. then as we left we said goodbye. No greeting from the lady... another colleague, who had previously tied up all the tables outside at 4:30 p.m., noticed the situation when we said goodbye. When we walked past the business again about an hour later, the lady was standing at the entrance door with a customer and when she saw us, her gestures confirmed that she was talking to the customer about us. I find this behavior absolutely cheeky!!! We loved being there but never again!!! Better training for staff would be an advantage!!!!

Friendly staff and very clean. But prices are rather high. I paid 2.90 for a “Mönsterli”. Bread rolls with (theoretically) chocolate sticks. It turned out that the “stick” is only about 4cm long. At this price you would want a whole stick.

I get a really good Doppio espresso here. Unfortunately there is no longer any service in the restaurant, but the offering is still very good.

Today I got rolls and bread for breakfast: 2 spelled rye rolls. These were not baked properly. Almost raw dough inside. Very wet. The same applies to the Ur Dinkel Maggia bread. Also makes a dull noise when tapped. 8.00 CHF spent to throw away. Breakfast ruined, day ruined. Given these quality issues, I will not give the baked goods a second chance. The service was very friendly and polite. The coffee itself is quite pretty. That's why there is the 2nd star.

Mothers with children are not welcome here. The space alone makes it extremely difficult, making it difficult even for wheelchair users. If you have a stroller you will be bullied if you can't leave it outside in the rain!!! (And the risk of theft would not be small either) The employee with the pink hair is the tip of the iceberg and shows you in her not very friendly tone that it would be better if you only did take away. If you make a critical comment, people lie and deny it, well the customer is only king here according to this lady's selected criteria. Would not recommend this coffee with children, there are better alternatives in the city.

The pastries and coffee are really top. BUT the staff... I have NEVER experienced anything so unfriendly, cheeky and lying. The lady with the pink hair just talked down to us for 1.5 hours and 4 people heard that. She complained to all the staff about us being there with the children. We were constantly being given nasty looks and the lady with the pink hair served us VERY poorly. As we walked out, we confronted her about her behavior and how she talked about us (in a loud, pissed off way) was unprofessional and how she treated us badly. She denied everything, even though 4 adults heard and noticed everything. So she had to lie too. Despite everything, we were friendly the whole time, but when she made us out to be liars and denied everything, we lost our temper. It's a shame for the reputation of the Kuhn bakery, as the rest of it is really great. We are very disappointed with this behavior. When you work in the service sector, such behavior has no place. We will always be happy to return to the Kuhn behind the train station. But the one at Untertor is unfortunately not recommended.

New Kafi in the place where the Gotthard used to be. Pleasant atmosphere, in my opinion a bit very large counter and rather few tables inside. Great location, staff friendly. Kafi is great, almond fish is recommended. I don't think the self-service concept is that great either, because the tables tend to stay dirty for a moment. You also wait for the coffee and hope to find a table later. Why not order and pay at the counter and then have service at the table? It would definitely be possible too.

Even though I can theoretically understand the self-service concept (reason according to Kuhn: lack of staff), in practice I have a hard time understanding it when 4 service employees step on each other's toes behind the counter due to the limited space and there is no coordination as to who does what... And the Kuhn isn't that big... With 4 employees, service on site should be possible...
