Excellent cuisine, the fondue and meringues are to die for! Very picturesque and cozy magical place. Fair price. I highly recommend !

Poorly polite and dishonest manager, calls himself professional but speaks badly to his customers, I see that I am not the first, perhaps we should go for coaching?

Very poorly received…even though there seemed to be room, we were refused

We arrived today to have a drink and eat on the terrace, after 15 minutes of waiting outside we were seated outside and then finally indicated that we could not eat outside…. So we indicated that we just wanted to have a drink and then eat inside... 15 minutes after ordering two draft beers, the owner told us that the table where we were seated outside was reserved... we told him that we were waiting for our aperitif…. And then like a dog barking at us, he told us that if we weren't happy we had to leave! That’s what we did of course! If you don't want to properly welcome visitors who make your life —> change jobs.

We enjoyed our time here. It should be more popular while the service is very welcoming, polite and the atmosphere is better then the 50 meter shops where you are refused to be served. Here on the 24th of December we felt to be like home with friends. Thanks for everything I hope more people will come here

The rudest manager in Switzerland! Service denied, supposedly based on poor French language skills. We were out on Sunday afternoon in Gruyère with the family and suggested to sit down for a coffee at the terrace of this restaurant where there were 4+ free tables. The manager said all tables are for fondu only. I pointed at a table with empty coffee cups. He said it was part of the earlier luncheon. I picked up and showed him the receipt from that table for just two coffees. He said he doesn’t care and won’t service us anyway. Great!

It was not possible to have lunch for 2 because there was only one table of 4 left... No shopping at all and a very unpleasant welcome. Go your way!

DO NOT go here! It was a total tourist trap. Basic fondue with bread=84 CHF. On top of that, they don’t take credit cards. How do you not take credit cards at the entrance to one of the most tourist oriented places in all of Switzerland?

This review is for the kiosk that belongs to Le Bonnet Rouge. When I entered the store, the sales person was deep in a private telephone conversation. After a while I asked her if I could please pay for my drinks and chocolate, and she snapped that I should wait two minutes. Another customer who also wanted to pay for his water left the store immediately like me!

The place is very cozy and the bathroom is very clean but we wanted to order a fondue for 1 and they didn't let us (in other restaurants you do have that option), they told us that it was for 2 people or more...the green salad is 7.5 chf and It's literally 4 leaves of lettuce...they don't accept payment by card and they told us to withdraw cash from a nearby ATM to where the owner followed us. They also do not have tap water and the prices of drinks are not indicated on the menu. Luckily the fondue was delicious and for two it was a very good size. Another bad thing is that they allow smoking on the terrace without asking the rest of the customers if it bothers them or not…

STAY AWAY !!! I see the good reviews and I’m very surprised. The creme wasn’t bad but the welcoming was horrible: not a “hallo”, asked why would we want to sit, asked to move table onto a smaller one when the whole terrace kept empty. We then were requested to put away our water bottle because this is a no pic-nic (after we had ordered 40CHF of food and drinks) and last … of course … no credit card accepted! Seriously… we’re in 2023!! Not good enough for one of the top attractions in the canton!

We had an amazing fondue dinner here, and had we stayed for two nights, we definitely would’ve gone back. The owner does it all himself and was absolutely incredible- he really made sure we had the best experience possible from start to end! Good to note that it’s cash only (there may be a sign but as English-only speakers we didn’t realize).

A very cute and small restaurant! The owner is so sweet and kind. He made us great drinks and the fondue was spectacular. He even gave us a little dessert at the end for free! He only speaks French, but this wasnt an issue.

Excellent Friborg fondue, the manager is very friendly and the small terrace is very welcoming. Be careful, he doesn't take the card but there is an ATM right next to it.

I find the setting very cute, it's the first time I ate a fondue on the side of the street, it wasn't really disturbing even with a lot of passers-by, there was this spirit of the small village, with the view of the mountains! We were very well served by this nice gentleman, I will come back if I pass by Gruyère to taste the desserts this time. ;)

We were able to enjoy a very tasty fondue with a beautiful view with an excellent host. From the uncomplicated reservation to the dessert, everything was great.

A cozy, rustic restaurant in which to have fondue and wine. My sister and I really enjoyed eating here - we were so glad we ate here instead of the touristy restaurant at the cheese museum. Le Bonnet Rouge has a humble, authentic feel to it, plus the owner was very kind, as other reviewers have noted. This was a special dining experience for us!

I give one star I can't give less half and half fondue a hard cheese to chew without taste no choice in fondues and wines what a shame in such a beautiful exterior setting

Not recommendable Only one kind of fondue, only one brand of wine and not even dessert Besides, it does not charge either by card or by euro.

Arriving through the main entrance, this magnificent restaurant on a human scale is located just on the left after the souvenir shop. In summer, there is a small terrace with full sun to make the most of it. In winter, mulled wine is available on the terrace or you can eat inside to enjoy a succulent half/half or wild garlic fondue summer and winter alike. Obviously, it’s with bread and not potatoes (it’s not a melted raclette 😂)

Moderately satisfied, Cheapest fondue in the area, very good Vacherin/Gruyère, 24 francs but only bread with the fondue unlike my previous fondue in the region where there was also pork. We had to add a peasant sausage for 14 francs but it turned out to be a garlic sausage. No price card other than the table at the entrance, it puts the price in the customer's head a bit. No carafe of water but bottled mineral water for 4 francs, added to that a first choice beer for 4fr50 I found the bill steep for 2 people.

A true culinary experience! The welcome and service are great! Friendly, courteous, and with humor! And to be honest, I think it's in my top 3 of the best fondues I've eaten 👍😋. All in a sublime setting.

Very limited alcoholic drinks menu. The dish of “meringues with double cream” contained just one meringue, buried under superfluous condiments to mask the liquidity of the cream.

The meringue & cream cheese was 11 francs and it was delicious😃 There is no drink menu, only cash payment is accepted! The owner is very kind~~

Family restaurant which has a few seats on the terrace in the sun. Very good Gruyère / Vacherin / wild garlic fondue and the double cream meringue specialty with red fruits is very good, almost light. They don't take credit cards but there is an ATM right next door.

Beautiful little restaurant, with just a few tables for two people and a larger table a little apart. A boss who takes great care of his customers, impeccable service. A romantic atmosphere emanates from this place. Expertise, a delicious meal, whether it's fondue or dessert (meringue with double Gruyère cream, several days later, my mouth is still watering). And despite all its qualities it remains the most inexpensive restaurant at the foot of the Gruyère castle. I highly recommend it to all couples who visit the castle, the picturesque charm of the place cannot leave anyone indifferent.

Small, discreet restaurant located at the entrance to the Gruyère castle grounds. We went there because it was cheaper than the other restaurants in the area, and we don't regret going there! The setting was small, quite quiet and rustic. We had a wild garlic fondue... My taste buds still remember... The quality and taste of the cheese was so good! We couldn't resist having a little dessert, the cream was a real delight... Swiss dairy products are of incredible quality 😍! The server took great care of us, we were very well received.
