Maison Desplanches in Genève

The staff is not very accommodating and doesn't seem to be very eager to respond to guests' needs. It's difficult to order in English as the staff only speaks French. The food is also not of the best quality. The cakes were indeed very tasty.

It is located in a good location, it is busy. The service is a bit slow, because the workers there also serve at the chocolate place. The cakes are good. The hot chocolate is made on site.

Fancy coffee bar located near the Bel Air roundabout. A great pitstop before, during or after your shopping spree in Geneva's city center! ☕️🥪🍰

What a mistake to return to this place even after several years the service is still catastrophic, not knowing how to respond to a 3 year old child in a polite, adult and above all human way is unacceptable, the little girl, she was polite as it was a bad experience for the child. Place to avoid 100%, it is not a house with values.

Very sad no homemade hot chocolate on December 27 only ovo 2 unfriendly people to serve a lot of waiting. Not worthy for the Tourist Center of Geneva and in the land of chocolate😥😥

I loved their hot drinks, the place is very nice, coated in the smell of chocolate. Despite this, it is not the most welcoming place, does not seem accessible to armchairs and strollers (stairs) and I found the staff unsmiling and not very patient when taking orders.

The so-called Manager, makes me wait to supposedly free up a place for me while the mother and her daughter before me offered them 2 tables, puts me at the table but without anything else, the least he can do is offer the menu . Deplorable service... two tables of us left after waiting half an hour without being served... The young man was as unpleasant as possible. Leads her colleague who shows good will. This young man is also ineffective. The café was far from full despite a Sunday Escalade race! It's really a shame.

While passing through Geneva I went to this shop at the beginning of October to buy a pastry. I was very well received by a charming young girl who was very smiling and pleasant.

Undrinkable coffee served cold. The waiters offer hot water to customers to heat the coffee.

Worst carrot cake ever eaten in my life. Industrial is better. It arrives on the plate not even unwrapped yet in its plastic. The reception is a bit limited given the prices charged. For example, we expect at least table service

Thursday morning I went with a friend and ordered a cappuccino. It didn't look like a cappuccino at all, more like a coffee with cream and they didn't even put chocolate powder on top, I asked them if they could put a little chocolate powder on top, they just put on on the one hand very very little I was really disappointed. The service is not great.

Bad service, confusing, tasteless products. Coffee, hot chocolate, chocolate bomb, raspberry mille feuille, key lime pie, that was all we ordered and we didn't like any of it. It's really not worth it, not even the simple coffee was good.

Quiet places to have a hot chocolate or enjoy a homemade pastry. The chocolate making place has been open to the public recently (July 2023) and is worth the detour!

We had a chicken sandwich and different desserts suggested by the staff there. The desserts were amazing and I wish I could taste more. The staff there is also very helpful.

One of the worst bakeries, honestly. The hygiene of the shop leaves much to be desired, it's greasy everywhere, hair visible through the window. Cold coffee and was initially served the flattest pain au chocolat the world has ever seen. When asked if this was normal I was told with a shrug “they’re all like that”. So apparently it’s ok to serve pastries which look like they’ve been stepped on now? Extremely poor. Half-hearted service and was over-charged when I left. This place has definitely had its day by now.

I have bought several pastries there and I am never disappointed. The red fruit Christmas log was delicious and the chocolate and coffee éclairs were exquisite. I will come back again and again.

Maison Desplanches cozy Cafe Bar in the city center. The Entrance is a bit discreet and the street number is not visible. The entrance is same as the UBS bank at the street corner of the busy Bel Air roundabout few steps from Confederation Centre. They have wide varieties of pastries & sandwiches.

Impeccable service, especially from Mr. Kevin with (the glasses). Very good homemade confections, perfect for a quick coffee or a meal on the go.

Random discovery while wandering the streets of Geneva. Hunger in our stomachs and a tempting window display make us enter the store. Very smiling welcome from the gentleman at the cash register, who explains how it works (à la carte choice or buffet formula). Here we are seated at the table. Order taking and very laborious service! However, our beautiful brunette waitress was very pleasant and very professional. The decor is pretty, however, the floors are dirty (stains and hair, etc.) and the toilets deserve to be better maintained. As a result, I enjoyed our snack less, which was also judged good by the rest of the table. We didn't have desserts, although they were tempting. Thank you for the friendly welcome From France!

Used to be lovely. But now has gone downhill and the service is terrible. Maybe it was because I was with a black friend, who was very large or maybe they are just too busy being aggressive to hear what you are saying. We left. Too many nice places on the road to waste time being abused. The food certainly isn’t worth it. And yes, it was here that we had the bad experience. It's been two years since I last returned to Gilles Desplanches and the service is unfortunately still terrible, as proven by the comments left on Google. Too bad, because the place is well located (Rue Confédération in Geneva), cozy with a nice decoration... Very slow service despite the place being almost empty, several employees chatting at the bar... 15 minutes to wait before the order was taken for a simple coffee, and again it was up to us to signal. Waitress more than unpleasant (we have the impression of disturbing). I order a chocolate muffin, the latter comes back to me 10 minutes later saying: "they will be delivered tomorrow" in a nonchalant tone, without offering any other alternative. I ask if other muffins are available, the latter replies: "ha no" and leaves. Cheese ramekin served without cutlery or napkins... you have to ask, and again you feel like you're disturbing. However, the same waitress was much more cheerful and quick when serving the owner of Maison Desplanches who was seated at a table opposite mine. Once again too bad, the products are good, but the service ruins everything: avoid! In response to your comment: Do you understand that this is not a question of stock of muffins? Indeed they are excellent and I therefore understand why you were out of stock. This is the unacceptable behavior of your waitress for a renowned house such as Gilles Desplanches. Instead of "they will be delivered tomorrow" followed by "ha no...", which the latter said in a more than unpleasant tone, rolling her eyes before leaving... . we could have expected a "we have no more muffins, can I invite you to follow me to the counter to choose another dessert?". Nothing worse than feeling like a nuisance in a service establishment. Good day.

Address to AVOID! Rude but above all tasteless desserts! Bought 7 cakes today March 18, 2022, 3 were outdated and beyond stale. This pastry doesn't get any better, yet every time I hope to be disappointed for the better! I always end up amazed at the mediocrity of the desserts at such a location!

The decor is a little outdated, the bench near the entrance is more than tired. The mille-feuille is as good as in a supermarket. When you come to Maison Desplanche, you expect much better Excellent Earl Gray tea. When I talk about an outdated decor, because of the used chairs and benches. I remain aware that tastes and decors remain an assessment. I would go and test your other point of sale. I hope to be happy when tasting your products.

I cam every now and then to take some croissants and escargots. I don't know how it works the logistics but one out of three the escargots and croissants are not fresh and hence not tasty anymore.
