Everything is incredibly beautiful

First visit since the overhaul. - The waitress was very kind and responsive. - The bread was excellent (already the same in the past). However : - No more fresh juices pressed on demand. Now, it's the mini plastic bottle, maxi price (more than CHF 6 anyway) and very (very) acidic. Damage. - The setting is now cold, with a multitude of small tables packed together and aligned like on a checkerboard. No more cozy little nooks. Room has been left for the large “laboratory” at the back, to the detriment of customer comfort. Damage.

Out of 3 pastries purchased, none were worth the detour: lemon meringue inedible because it was so bitter, finger tatin style edible but dry and the cloud of tiramisu worthy of a chocolate rolled biscuit in short, to be avoided especially given the prices charged (9.- per pastry) If it’s a MOF it’s very BOF

Nothing to say, very pleasant service, I had an all-chocolate one, it was very good, not too sweet or too tasteless, the price was a little expensive but it was worth it.

(Very) cold atmosphere. Rather high prices. Unresponsive staff. Very average meal (Caesar salad), served in its cardboard packaging... Good pastry for desert that saves the meal.

The acoustics of the place are deplorable. A cathedral of glass and tiles where the noise of the machine drowns out the noise of conversations. An acoustic study would be welcome to restore this place to the comfort it had.

The merchandise itself deserves a more beautiful environment.

Too bad this place to drink coffee is neither cozy nor quiet. We could suggest, among other things, adding felt glides under the chair legs. The toilets, for a place that was redone a few months ago, seem to need finishing touches. For the neighborhood, it’s very disappointing…

What a desappointment. Very noisy, cafeteria atmosphere. Very dirty toilets (at 10:15 a.m., the schedule indicated that cleaning had taken place the day before). The walls deserve a good refresh.

Heating turned off in the middle of December, not great to come home to warm up and drink our hot chocolates in our jackets :(

In terms of pastries, they are delicious and there is a choice. Regarding the service, it leaves something to be desired. In the room, there is a lack of music which you can barely hear because the noise of the dishes takes over, it rattles which is not very pleasant and above all it is cold there is the air of the outside which passes under the doors plus there are drafts when people enter and leave it would ideally be necessary to install a curtain to insulate from the cold and remedy this problem, the tables also do not have stability they move easily. Nice place and delicious pastries

I'm changing my review because I have to admit that the pastries there are delicious. The design is a little impersonal but when you have a full stomach it’s all forgiven.

My son took a course today, nothing to say, great, the chef very pleasant and very patient!! My son was delighted. Me on the other hand, a little disappointed in the room by my "all chocolate" cake which did not seem fresh to me, not very pleasant... Very pretty room

This is an opinion about the courses aimed at gourmet lovers, given by Mr Christophe Renou at the Maison du Gâteau. I had an excellent time around this table, discovering the world of the artisan pastry chef, with a blue, white and red collar. I am already looking forward to spending another delicious, cozy moment, comfortably installed in the new decor of the tea room, planned for the month of December. I read a review about the price! If you want quality and taste, as well as know-how, it comes at a cost! All good for this friendly team.

How to say so as not to be totally unpleasant. Deadly atmosphere. It's cold and soulless. The staff/service, non-existent. 4 employees this Sunday. One behind the counter, one pretending and the other two holding the spittoon at a table with two employees on leave. Well, there were few or no customers, normal given the prices charged. Let's move on to Paris-Brest, which is my favorite dessert, a good choux pastry and a butter cream cream/mousse, that's it. There was no praline, praline Monsieur, the taste of praline is essential. Taste your desserts and compare them with your MOF colleagues. The prices are steal. Ah yes, an establishment whatever it is, cannot be allowed to run free without anyone directing it.

I find it hard to understand how a cozy interior was butchered with such little taste, did you call in the pros? Looking at the comments, I'm not the only one who thinks so. I, who am fond of pastries, have not found anything to my taste, everything looks the same and is made up of thin layers... you have to go to Pougnier, Castricher, Mage or recognized and appreciated pastries to study the market, the demand and competition... customer here for over 20 years, super disappointed after these weeks of waiting, already the takeover of Pouly had had an impact, I was happy with this takeover but I didn't think it could get worse.. certainly this opinion is severe but at this price we expect exclusivity and excellence

Too bad for this Maison du Gateau before very good pastry...the really ugly little cannelés. Flies .....!!!! very ugly..decoration....too expensive 9.ch um baba rum etc black tea very bad finally sad tea room. Too bad....Mage tea rom.superior pastry compare to yours and cheaper.....you will lose customers like you have for over 25 years..the whole neighborhood already says bad things about the Maison du gateau.. ..Sorry.....

I think it's the ugliest place in Geneva - I ordered a chocolate éclair, the dough looked like cardboard and the thick mass inside was much too sweet - really a shame for this place which was friendly before - and I'm not the only one who talks bad about this place 🧐

Pastries are delicious. High quality ingredients + handmade = high price so don’t cry about it. Nobody seated inside and I could understand why : no music, the place is cold and impersonal. I highly recommend the chocolate and hazelnut cake and also the mac-sablés 😋

First time for me with a very warm welcome from the staff with very good advice and great care. A wide range of choices of pastries and pastries which are just excellent...I will order this establishment again which is well worth the detour, PS: thank you for the tasting 😉

I am very disappointed because I was a good customer. Hello, I came this morning to buy croissants around seven o'clock and a waiter told me that I had to wait 10 minutes before entering so I stayed outside and there was a gentleman inside who was laughing and who he was making fun of me he was in there yet he and he is still there every morning even before the renovations he is an alcoholic and I don't know how you can tolerate this kind of character in your home so I came home and got him yelled at but I won't come back to your place again because it's now ugly, it's not good and the staff is unpleasant. A waitress took sides with this degenerate. I'll come back and if I see him I'll beat the shit out of him. Have a good end of the day and sorry for all that but it is also perhaps your job to select your customers and not let just anyone in. Greetings

The mille-feuille is very disappointing (soft and tasteless), the coffee éclair is crazy as well as the passion fruit cheesecake. Paris Brest is very good.

I had a great time. The very friendly team, good advice and delicious pastries. When I see the comments I tell myself that I have to be a little lenient, the place has just opened, the staff is doing their best. I had a great time, we waited a few minutes before being served but it allowed us to chat with my friend, maybe what people are missing today is chatting with each other and being more patient. I will come back with pleasure

Quality coffee but served lukewarm, good pastries. What a disappointment however regarding the setting, cold and impersonal, the complete opposite of what we look for in a tea room 😪

Nothing surprising given the price. I expected better. After the renovation, the room is cold, looks like a factory. The sounds of the dishes echoing which disturbed me a lot. The servers are quite nice. Damage.

Several points from my visit on September 27 at 6:00 p.m.: 1) Very noisy place, acoustic panels are missing from the decor. Too much hubbub Wednesday evening and the place wasn't even full. If to this we add the shrill ringing of the telephone that no one answers and the clanking of the dishes it's the perfect mix to not stay there for long. 2) We arrived and no one came to take the order for at least ten minutes. After waving we had someone take our order. 3) We took two verbenas (no comment on the price of 4.40 CHF/each). The teapots arrived 3/4 full and one of them without a lid. Unable to get a server, I got up and asked for more water at the counter and a lid. The answer was “that they are in the dirt”. Doesn't every teapot have a lid? Previously I went to the Cake House every week to work or study, today it is impossible to stay there even to be alone with my thoughts. Damage.

We tried to have a snack there on Sunday, two days after opening. We ordered a cake, three matcha lattes and two cold chocolates, but after 10 minutes of waiting we were told that there was no matcha, so we all ordered cold chocolates and after a while of wait we were told there was no milk. We took our cake (in packaging with blood on top from someone cutting it) to taste at home and it tasted like it would have been in the fridge. Mega on. We're going to give another opportunity because that day was really chaos.

Ugly and gloomy decor. Bought: passion bear, it's disgusting marshmallow + vanilla madeleines: taste like fish, 🤔🧐 The lady who served me is very friendly.

What a desappointment!! In three points: 1. dirty men's toilets (bowl with droppings, sink full of cloudy and disgusting water) 2. Small room with tables lined up, mineral decor absolutely not cozy, and therefore a terrible cafeteria noise (voices, dishes ,…) which resonates and breaks your head after 3 minutes. 3. I order a tomato juice with pepper but there is none (it's meant to be a lunchtime restaurant). Thank God the terrace is drinkable and the employee who seems sorry for the non-existence of a pepper mill is friendly and smiling. In short, with the plethora of tea rooms in the neighborhood, the choice is quickly made!!

I give 4 stars because even if everything is excellent I find the prices excessive, 9.- for a small pastry, I won't come every day! The flan at 6.50.- was really delicious because it was fresh this Monday morning. 🤔

Quality pastries and very friendly staff! Forget the comments from people who give 1 star because of mismatched spoons, plates that are too big or because the tiles don't like it (seriously?), it's ridiculous. The cake house is a beautiful house.

Happy that the place is finally reopened! Beautiful clean and modern setting, warm welcome by pleasant waiters, it's a change from the past! The only reason why I didn't give five stars is because of the price of the cakes which varies from 8.50 Fr. to 9.50 Fr. 😱Too bad because at that price I would be surprised if it worked very well... Please reintroduce fresh fruit and vegetable juices if possible.

Big disappointment compared to the old one. We were there yesterday, chaos, long wait...smaller space, poorly organized servers, we were served coffee without a saucer and the rest on large plates instead of a dessert plate. There were two of us, we asked for water and the waiter brought us a glass of water for both of us!! We had to ask for towels… Too bad! The old one was nicer, more family friendly...huge disappointment...

No no no!! But who chose the tiles? It looks like a hammam, only that a hammam is usually calm and relaxing, here it is noisy, impersonal, cold. You might think you are at a motorway rest area or at a bus station. I don't believe it was an architect who designed this, or perhaps the intern's assistant. The cakes are nothing more, except the price, 9 chf, the tea at 4.40 (Sirocco sachets, at the coop opposite they sell boxes from 20 to 17.50 chf), so the famous rule of 3 is not respected . For cakes, huge forks, and for tea, 2 mismatched spoons (one large and one small). We prefer to go to the Four Seasons, we pay a little more, but there is a cozy atmosphere and quality to boot. We can't say that it was better before, but what a waste to take over a business and make it so ugly. Too bad, once is enough

Maison de gâteau has finally reopened again after its renovation. Place looks modern and spacious. Good selection of pastries and cakes. Cheesecake was good. Waiters were friendly and responsive. Would definitely visit again for afternoon tea on a lazy Sunday.

Glad it's finally re-opened. Can you bring back fresh juices and toast? And also, finally give us a non-smoking half terrace 🙏🙏. Smoking cigarettes with your morning pain au chocolat doesn't please everyone.... Especially if you value the quality of your products, give us the chance to benefit from them 🙏🙏. Smokers will always have the other half of the terrace. THANKS!!!! (5th star added after the manager decided to take the idea into account, we are delighted)

Profoundly disappointed. It is a small place with simple menu for lunch. Still, it took more than 30’ for my salad to come. I was hopeful that at least the chicken would come freshly grilled (what could explain a bit the waiting time), but for my big surprise, the chicken is a McDonalds kind of cold chicken (not kidding here) and the rest of the salad is pretty simple. Lettuce, tomatoes, cold boiled eggs and carrots. Nothing special that justifies the price (CHF 20,-) neither the long waiting time. thank you.

Have had breakfast a few times here as we live in the area. The food i found was good, but the service is so bad, slow to come to you after you have seated to even ask if you want drinks to start. Once they have finally done that expect 15 min at least till you see someone for your food order

So, my friend and I decided to go to this bakery, it was my biggest regret, we got there and they took a while to serve us, but everything was fine until then, because we were not not in a big hurry, but our surprise was the service, because when the waiter came we asked about the croissant because sometimes they make big and small croissants, he was super ignorant with us, just because of a simple and small question. Honestly, at 10 a.m. a person is already in a bad mood, I understand very well, but mistreating you since you are paying for the service is unacceptable. Anyway, we ended up leaving because we ended up "running out of patience" to wait for our order and still see that other people who arrived after us were already served. It was a bad experience, I don't advise anyone to go there.

Very slow service, waiter responding to the customer, unfortunately it is the only tea room on the road to flourish. No management, waiter and waitress left to their own devices totally incompetent is not recommended.

Average, expensive and average service

Really really bad service. I was transparent yet there were 6 waiters. Unbelievable. Table was left dirty from previous diners...

More than 10 minutes of waiting because the waitress takes all her time making a fruit juice and does not take care of the rest of the customers, I would point out that there were 2 of us waiting so no crowds! As for the 2 other waitresses who work together to make 1 coffee and don't take care of the people waiting, excuse me but at 8:30 in the morning people don't just have that to do!
