I think it is more for someone who really likes mines (studies them or it is just a mine enthusiast). The museum holds a quite rich exhibition. However, the mine itself is not so astonishing.

Former mine, the largest in Europe, now a tourist attraction. It is possible to visit the mines, at least part of them. To do with the family, the experience with helmets and flashlights is great. Be careful to dress well. The ham cooked in the asphalt is delicious, I recommend.

Experience, enriching, friendly, helpful, always worth a trip

During my visit to the Presta asphalt mine in Val-de-Travers in December, I was struck by the speed of the visit. Unfortunately, the lady who served as our guide was somewhat lacking in answering our questions, which was disappointing. I would have appreciated more time to explore the details of this fascinating place. However, the visit lacked interaction, especially for the children present. The explanatory panels and photos were placed high up, making them difficult for small people and children to access. Compared to my previous memories, the visit seemed different. The entry price was also quite high compared to the experience offered. Despite these points, the place retains its charm, but adjustments could improve accessibility and interaction for visitors.

After this visit to the asphalt mine, a meal out of the ordinary is essential. Ham cooked in the asphalt. Excellent. Well served and hot. Heartwarming welcome.

Last year, five of us visited the asphalt mine and the exhibition. It was super exciting, interesting and the tour of the mine was very well conducted. Incredible to experience all this and imagine what it used to be like. If you visit the asphalt mine be sure to try the ham, really highly recommended! We would come by again. Great experience!

It is very impressive what people have achieved before and again a few years ago. The museum was painstakingly rebuilt over many years. It is well organized and the tour is very informative, definitely worth seeing. You can also linger and fortify yourself around the museum.

Interesting tour of the La Presta asphalt mine, which was closed in 1986. In the past, the mined asphalt was sold all over the world. Exciting and hard to imagine.

Amazing place, we were guided by Alexis, very friendly, who explains the life of these miners well. It's hard to imagine the labor to dig these galleries in the 18th century and after. Then we had a good ham gratin cooked in the asphalt.... a treat.... very welcoming and friendly staff. A place that I highly recommend and bring a jacket because I went there in short sleeves and shorts and it's 8 degrees in the air!!!!

As always the welcome is lovely and the staff are great and The star dish, asphalt ham is a marvel 🤤 as always... And for those who want to know the history of asphalt, it is also the opportunity to visit the mines of the same name.

The ham cooked in the asphalt is excellent, as are the toppings (salad, gratin, beans). The absinthe parfait is very nice. Special mention to the green fairy mojito ;-) In short, a great meal. The visit to the mine that followed was really very interesting and our guide was able to give us a lot of information and help us understand the organization of the mine and the work of the miners. I highly recommend... and I will come back with pleasure.

Impressive insight into the past.

If you are claustrophobic, move on. For others, it's a great original experience. Remember to take a tracksuit because it is not very hot even in summer. Enjoy tasting the ham cooked in the asphalt. Slow cooking... If you have time left, go and discover the miners' garden which starts at the telephone box. Download the app and let yourself be guided. The tour is not very long and it's fun with children. You can also walk along the Areuse river...

Interesting to see how and what our great-grandfathers mined and processed in Switzerland back then... I belong to the younger generation. Nevertheless, the EARLIER was more sustainable and not imported. That's why I respect them for their performance under difficult conditions. Asphalt ham tastes very good and doesn't necessarily taste different from home. But the way it is cooked is special and is definitely part of it here. “Nobody goes home without ham in the asphalt” 😉

A very pleasant destination, with a restaurant, cafe, grocery store, museum and visit to an asphalt mine. The restaurant's flagship dish is the ham cooked for 4 hours in the asphalt at 180°... excellent, cooking which preserves the flavors. The dishes are authentic and local and you can get reservations if you wish! The service is very friendly. The visit to the mine, with helmet and lamp provided, is pleasantly guided. We spend 1 hour in the dark, at 7°. Surprising and enriching visit.

Well-known asphalt mines in the region. If you are visiting the area, this is a must-visit place. Free parking space nearby. Payment methods by card or TWINT accepted. Also try the violet or fir syrup at the Café des Mines after your visit. We were even lucky enough to see a steam locomotive from Vapeur Val-de-Travers!

Who knows that thanks to this mine, Switzerland was for a while one of the most important exporters of asphalt? Not as spectacular as the Bex salt mine, but you should definitely visit the asphalt mine after hiking up the Areuse gorge from Boudry in the morning. The homepage provides information about the times of the tours. The La Presta train stop is 50m next to the mine. The tour was French and German. A helmet and lamp are provided.

Understand: asphalt story and miners' garden are complements, but the whole point lies in the guided tour. So register and come on time for the visit.

We were lucky to have a privileged guided tour because we were the only ones that day. The guide Nicole passionately transmits her knowledge about the mine, responds professionally to questions and is warm and welcoming in nature. The place itself is full of history and this can be discovered through the visit and the explanatory panels as well as the photos from the period. I really enjoyed the visit and we will come back to taste the famous ham cooked on the asphalt! Thank you for everything.
