Munger Tea Room in Lugano

Something has changed and for the worse. SLOW, listless or unmotivated service. Sin! I don't pretend hypocrisy but if I pay 4.30 for a cappuccino, a certain service must be included. Today I had a hot chocolate with cream, cappuccino cup full to the brim, cream in a small glass pebble, obviously if you want to put it on the chocolate everything spills out. I asked for a bigger glass..... "of course if you do that....!" I in no way tolerate the fact that they don't have cups for the hot chocolate but they make me feel like I don't know how to consume it . A nice renovation of accessories and staff training "the customer is your salary and you collect for the place". Cost of hot chocolate with cream Fr. 6.- So I expect a cup suitable for what you propose

We eat cakes and drinked coffee when we visited Lugano. Cakes and really good and they have big choice of them. Coffee was good. Stuff was really pleasant and nice.

I came to have breakfast here because it was one of the few pastry shops in town that inspired me. We took a brioche with almond paste, a strudel and a bread cake... brioche not bad even if a little too sweet, very good strudel and bread cake not bad, particular I would say... very friendly service and located in the center

When I come to Lugano I always stop for a coffee and a pastry....everything is very good....the lady in charge of the table is very kind and professional...the girls behind the counter are always smiling and kind... It's always a pleasure to come in and taste your products.... panettone with space marron glacé....

Very good, fine sweet things and good coffee. Staff almost falls asleep while working. therefore waiting times must be expected.

Historic pastry shop in Lugano near Piazza della Riforma. They prepare many classic desserts, some of which are seasonal. I recommend trying the strawberry roll in summer and the chestnut plum cake in autumn. The sandwiches and panettone are also very good. The staff is friendly and the prices are in line with the area.

Our orders were cappuccino 10/10 Americano 10/10 Coffee Freddo is a cold coffee 4/10 It is all foamy, blueberry cheesecake 9/10 Tiramisu 10/10 It is worth a visit 👌🏻

A place that 'saved our lives'. Ticino is not Germany where at almost every street corner you can find a konditorei serving decent viennoiserie and cakes! Munger is THE exception! Wonderful sophisticated French style cakes served at the table by nice professional waitress (a little less friendly those at the counter where you choose your cake) and at a reasonable price. The only thing: in Summertime why closing at 7?

Pear and chocolate cake, passion fruit mousse, mango cheese cake...not to mention the bakery...Vallemaggia bread and brioche with jam....all excellent!

Unfriendly service, sandwich for 7.50 consisting of dry bread and a slice of meat. Otherwise nothing. Swiss bakery craft, really now?

normal food i eat every day, not really special but its good, so i like 😛 (in the pictures) i like the heart shaped sweet thing but like, i can eat it everywhere its not really special. 😁 i drank coffee aswell but i forgor to take a picture of it

With every filling I tried, the stuffed peaks had a flavor reminiscent of undercooked starch. In addition, there is no real vanilla in the vanilla filling, which is what I actually expect from a bakery. The chicken legs were quite okay. There was no classic hot chocolate available, instead I was offered a liquid chocolate drink with way too much cream. It made me sick when I left the store.

Food was okay. Pushy waitress who put the bill on the table before we even asked or even finished our food!

Great place for breakfast and coffee. However, there are a lot of people dining, so you need to wait patiently.

I came in on Easter Sunday and tried the Denza chocolate. Excellent.

If you want to take a leap back to the 80s this is the right place! Very high prices, cappuccino unacceptable, it was boiling hot... zero rating for the friendliness and courtesy of the staff at the pastry counter. Fresh pastries are saved, there are some good things.. but it's not enough..

We went last night with our son and Mrs. Lily served us. We were impressed by his skill and professionalism and that he anticipated our needs. I will definitely be back for the great chocolates and the great treatment we received! Keep it up!

I purchased Christmas biscuits on 29.12: 10 cinnamon stars and 10 brunsli. Fr 32. They are undoubtedly of quality, but excessively expensive, they are simple baked biscuits, as artisanal as you want, but not elaborate pastries. The price was still exposed, but when it came time to pay the shock was not lacking. I don't think I would buy them again.

We weren't served in the cafe for half an hour and then left. The staff doesn't seem to enjoy customers with children. We then enjoyed the dessert by the lake, it's much nicer there anyway.

In my opinion, the pastry shop and tea room are the best in Lugano... When I travel for work, I always stop by here. A convivial atmosphere perfect for enjoying sweet delicacies.

Croissants are good, coffee not great. Generally probably a good place to eat in, or to take away pastries, but I would not recommend to take away coffees and I am not going back as I found the (bar) service rude. You need to order/pay for take away coffees separately, so we bought our croissants (staff there was very friendly) and then stand at the drink side of the bar for 10 minutes being literally ignored by the person making coffees (there was no one else standing, so it's impossible that she did not notice us). At some point the waitress came to tell this person loudly (but not us directly!) to prepare drinks for the table service first, and serve us later. It would have been totally understandable if someone had told us nicely that we had to wait as they were busy with clients at the tables or had given any other polite reason for us to wait. Not a problem. But no one did, no eye contact nor an apologetic smile for over 10 minutes, until we asked if we could also get served and they replied almost bothered that they needed to serve tables first. Not impressed.

Assortment of bread, wide choice of desserts (very good) and a small savory section with stuffed gipfel and quiche. The waiter who served us was very kind to us and the quality of the food is good, the chocolate cake with raspberry cream was excellent. The small rolls I purchased were good in flavor but flimsy in texture. I doubt they would have lasted until the next day without becoming super dry! They are also open on Sunday.

A café/bakery in the heart of Lugano with a multitude of things to taste! Only the service is a little slow, especially if you are not from Ticino...

In 1923 Ernesto Münger and his wife Edwige started the business with the collaboration of 2 employees. Spirit of initiative, working ability, professional commitment and strong family union gave life to this solid commercial enterprise. Since then, a vast assortment of bakery, pastry and confectionery products continue to emerge from the laboratories daily. Quality and freshness have always been the objectives, for which only the highest quality materials are used. Chemicals and preservatives are banned. Today the company is directed by the heirs Elena, Ernesto jr. and Isabella Münger, daughter of the latter, who can count on the collaboration of around 70 employees.

I connect with all the people who have given a thumbs up about the environment, the service, the wait times. It's all true. The environment is not that of a Parisian cafe, the waiters are often in a hurry (the place is practically always full) and sometimes you have to wait a long time. It has personally happened to me several times that people who arrived after me have been served before me but.... If I come to this place it is because I have the time and desire to enjoy their delicacies. The thick chocolate, the lemon tarts, the vermicelles, the stuffed toasts... it's all simply delicious. I don't come to this place to admire the paintings or to talk to the staff... I come to drink and eat something... So you deserve 5 stars 😊

The offer is large and the quality is ok. Ambience very old-fashioned with no attention to detail. Some staff unfriendly.

Sun h9. We sat down and for a good 30 minutes we were neither served nor even told we're coming... In the end we left... Poor...

5 of 5 for the quality of the products. But only 1 for friendliness. Only 1 for the system when you take a Caffe there, because you order Caffe and Cake separately. So, the Caffe was served and got cold while I still queued up for ordering the cake. That is not thought through well. And the biggest no go was a Covid issue. The waitress took a cup of chocolate back from a guest and put it again on the machine to warm up the milk again. During Covid times you can not contaminate the machine by used cups from guests. Even when the product are pretty good I will not come back again for a Caffe.

Beautiful tea room in the middle of Lugano in an excellent location. The selection of delicacies is sensational, the prices are very fair and the staff are very prompt and friendly. Our strawberry cake was delicious and the latte macchiato was excellent. We will be back.

When we checked into our hotel, we had a little welcome packet of cookies. They were little bits of heaven on earth. The package had a Münger Tea Room sticker on the label. I was pleased to discover this little bakery was only a 7minute walk from my hotel. These cookies are called Amaretti Bianchi and they are wonderful! You must eat them within 1-2 days. By day 3, they are a little stale. I could have eaten an entire box myself. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did :)

The pastry shop itself is good... but after 3-4 times that I ask for lactose-free milk they always tell me that they don't have it (...?...) and that they only have soy milk...( ?) It would take very little to have some Lactose-free milk... (and satisfying a long-time customer...) highly requested these days (and don't tell me I'm the first to request it...)

I come to Lugano every now and then and I always have a good time in your shop, a branch of Lug Paradiso, even a pleasant place there because of the tables outside in an area that is not so busy. 😊 Always a nice and well-presentable environment! Price-quality ratio 👍, we are in a city of Lugano. 😊 Staff always kind and understandable even if there is a crowd every now and then! I drink team, 👍👍

Terrible! We sit down to have some tea and ask for a metal teapot to keep the water warm. It is served to us with a teapot and a teabag. Cost? Double the price list... only because we had had more hot water having asked for a teapot. We initially paid without batting an eyelid but once we got up we pointed out the truly basic unfairness. No refund but having recognized the baseness they gave us, before leaving, a second tea bag..... What to say. 7.80 for a little more hot water. And second defaced sachet. Very bad experience. Never again!

We have been buying "Gambe di Donna" sweets at the Münger pastry shop in Lugano for years, and recently we realized that the price of these sweets increases by a few tens of cents per piece almost every 6 months, furthermore they always become a little smaller and with less and less filling. If they continue to increase prices in this way, sooner or later they will only find themselves with the elite of the canton or with naive tourists who buy in their shop. I'm talking about a Tea Room almost at "Pasticceria Del Porto" levels with the difference that every year the prices increase but the quality does not improve or the choice of products increases, furthermore it has been a long time since the furnishings and the service have been updated than the "bar" part.

Great coffee for all kinds of bread, filled pretzel rolls, small. Pizzas, Birchermüesli and lots of sweets. Quick, friendly waiter and good coffee at a reasonable price.

The only place I found that is open on Sunday. The prices are, of course, out of this world. But this is normal for Lugano. 2 burgers 15CHF.

Great little tea room. We had the thick hot chocolate. Amazing but very rich. I had mine with ginger in which really added something extra. Staff were friendly. They had some amazing cakes too.

Tiny place with sweets and salty yummies, coffee, fruity juices, sandwiches. A little bit too expensive, but they are in the city centre, so it´s understandable. I had the traditional "Bread cake" of Lugano, which was good, maybe a little bit too sweet for me, but if you a sweet tooth, go ahead :-)

We bought a (very expensive) chocolate cake, confident in the Swiss tradition. Unfortunately the disappointment was much greater than the renowned tradition. Excessive butter and sugar (we hope) but do you really use Swiss chocolate?

We had breakfast there. If you want some egg dishes, go after 9am. Otherwise the kitchen's still closed. They have very nice croissants and sandwiches. I saw many locals there in the morning. The cafe is quiet and located very central.
