Best fondue I’ve ever had! The service was amazing and the atmosphere was perfect. The owner was so nice and welcoming and made our experience wonderful. Highly recommend!

We had fondue after a long day of skiing. Super amazing service, yummy food. We took the servers recommendation and I’m glad we did. We had a reservation, we saw so many people turned away with no reservations. Wonderful dinner.

The 300-400 year old chalet sets the mood for this delightful meal. Made with all local ingredients, the culinary expertise of the surrounding area is evident. The local beer selection was extensive as were the cheeses. I would strongly recommend the Ochsen platter paired with the Eichhof Helles lager. A subtle, smooth, full bodied lager to complement a rich fondue meal. Thank you to Daniel for such great service.

Great place to have fondue after skiing or cross country skiing. The quality is great and the prices are reasonable, especially considering the location and the quality. More classic ski village feel than schick restaurant. Try to get a reservation or come early. They don’t have a huge staff so it can be hard to get some on the phone but hey, relax, you’re in a beautiful place, just relax and enjoy the beauty all around.

This place charges insane amounts for simply cheese and bread. While the cheese and the bread were excellent, it didn’t justify the insane bill for 4 people (and that’s including what we knew was an expensive bottle of wine!) we paid a total of 278 CHF with wine, beer, and fondue for 4. They overcharge for meat and veggies with the fondue, and charge 28 CHF PER PERSON for fondue which is only cheese and bread. Do not recommend. If you are willing to pay this much and don’t care, go for it! The atmosphere is great and it tasted good. I just can’t justify that price and want to warn others.

A really, really fine fondue offered by the extremely friendly host couple. Despite the Zurich dialect, I felt very welcome and comfortable in this enchanting, beautiful guest room. The small child at our table was also respected and treated nicely. I'll come back to the Ochsen on my next visit to Andermatt.

This restaurant mainly offers various foundeus. This is very much missed. It's best to reserve in advance.

Lovely local restaurant that serves up traditional Swiss food. I had the fabulous cheese fondue and the Swiss version of minestrone, which was creamy with bits of carrot and pearl pasta. I had a delightful Eichorn dark dunkle to drink. My husband had the equally delicious pasta and potatoes in a light creamy cheese sauce with crispy prosciutto bits on top.

Very down-to-earth restaurant with a friendly host, great food at fair prices. I ordered the Älplermagronen and they were really very good. Specialties seem to be fondue and raclette :). I'd be happy to come by another time for raclette/fondue. Definitely recommended. If I'm ever in the area again, I'd love to come by again.

We went for the Ochsen fondue. It was our first time having Swiss fondue, the fondue was great but we didn’t know that it was price per person and it’s not written on the menu so the bill was bit of a surprise, that might be on us as tourists but it should also be explicitly written, as it is at every other restaurant we ate at after this. Our waitress wasn’t very friendly but the gentleman that was occasionally checking on tables was very friendly.

Super yummy cheese fondue in the heart of Andermatt village. The building feels ancient and lived in. Friendly staff and good selection of fondues. I had the Speckfondue and it was delicious!

Beware if you have allergies! Rude and ignored serious allergies even though we speak local language. We went for dinner, excited by other reviews, and were literally mocked by the server/patron. We decided it wouldn’t be safe to order and had to go elsewhere. There are many other nice restaurants in the touristic town center-pick a different one if you have any dietary requirements

We arrived without booking, I had already eaten an exceptional fondue here, the restaurateur was friendly and kind and let us sit, asking us to wait half an hour. Everything was excellent including the service.

A piece of Andermatt history, situated in a 265-year-old building and you can really feel it. Coming through the door, You’re hit with the musky, almost incense like aroma of melting cheeses and you understand why when you realise the top item on the menu is a traditional cheese fondue, with options of tomato/bacon and mushroom options. The building feels almost like a medieval chalet and a time capsule to the past. They have lots of history across the walls about the town and vintage ski posters… certainly a nice experience, one portion of fondue certainly can go between two, we were given two portions as a miscommunication with the waitress as we certainly struggled to finish.

Amazing experience here, especially with the fondue and raclette. One of the best combos we've had to date. The service was professional and thoughtful.

We love this small but very fine restaurant! We come from Lugano and drive to Andermatt to the Ochsen especially because of the delicious cheese fondue. The boss and his employees are always super friendly and we feel very comfortable and looked after. We are even allowed to bring our 2 large dogs with us without any problems. All in all a great restaurant with top food and perfect service. We very much hope that we can dine there again this year despite all the Corona restrictions and wish the ox a good stamina!!! A home-style restaurant – that’s how we feel at home! We were greeted and served very friendly. For dinner we first had an “Ochsen-Plattli” house sausage (very fine!) as an aperitif, followed by a mixed salad with a very fine sauce. For the main course, the Älplermagronen with applesauce. (Really good – as they should be – strong “hearty”;)!) The price-performance ratio is perfect We will definitely come back and would be happy to recommend the Ochsen!

The place is very popular, you won’t get there right away. It is advisable to book a table in advance. The most popular order is white wine and cheese fondue with bread. The rest is up to preference. We took a salad of seasonal vegetables, boiled potatoes, which are served with cheese slices; they need to be melted in a mini frying pan and poured over potatoes, bacon or other vegetables, and bread. Everything is simple and delicious. The atmosphere is wonderful, the building is over 300 years old. This place is the highlight of Andermatt.

From Sunday 24 October it will close for a short break to reopen on 18 November 2021.
