Business trips regularly take us to Pratteln. Since our hotel is in Muttenz, we looked for a restaurant in Muttenz for dinner. Not so easy on a Monday, but La Botte, right on the main street in the town center, was open. A few steps from the street lead to the terrace, where you can sit well when the weather is nice. The restaurant itself is rustically furnished. The service was friendly and nice, but reserved. Beef carpaccio as a starter was good, even if the tomatoes didn't go well with it. Vitello Tonnato tasted good, but was presented more like a salad and only had small dollops of tuna sauce. At my request, I was given an extra bowl of sauce. For the small portion, I thought 18.50 CHF was quite a lot. For the main courses, the salmon was delicious. The osso buco was well seasoned, but unfortunately the meat wasn't very tender and there wasn't enough sauce. Risotto was good. Overall for 39.50 CHF I would have expected the portion to be larger. Panna cotta for dessert was a very good choice. As we all know, everything is more expensive in Switzerland, which we of course know and are willing to pay. But the price/performance/quantity should also be right. Just 3.5 stars from me, which I round up.

The Osteria la Botte is located in the middle of the village center directly on the main street of Muttenz and is easily accessible by public transport, but also offers enough parking space in the immediate vicinity. The restaurant is very well maintained, clean and tastefully decorated. The menu offering is manageable and yet well balanced in terms of taste. The food is not only of very good quality, but is also beautifully served. Only the vitello tonnato was rather unusual and impractical for us. The thin slices of meat were piled on top of each other in such a way that the tuna mousse ended up being rather small in relation to the meat. Although the plate was beautifully prepared, it looked more like a sausage salad. But what we really missed during our visit was the interaction with the staff. This was friendly, but always very short and limited to the bare essentials. And this despite the fact that the restaurant was a maximum of a third full. In a restaurant like this we also appreciate some communication, such as a reference to a house specialty or a wine recommendation for the chosen meal, just a nice comment or saying. What isn't possible, however, is not asking about the desired level of doneness for a beef fillet. So they obviously relied on the fact that I was one of the 60% who like to enjoy the fine piece of meat medium rare. Not only did the waiter make a perfect landing with his acceptance, but so did the cook, who actually fried the fillet perfectly. Conclusion of our visit to Osteria la Botte: delicious food in a well-kept location. However, the lack of interaction never really allowed us to settle in and warm up.

It's a shame, I was really disappointed! The pizza crust was very dark to black, the lasagne was only lukewarm, both tasted ok. The salad was good, but you can expect more for the price. A waiter was there, the others didn't feel like working, so if we wanted something else we always had to make them aware of it. Then there was an unsupervised children's birthday party, the children were running in and out of the restaurant all the time, the door was often open, and the temperatures weren't exactly pleasant as it was always drizzling through the restaurant. And it wasn't in the afternoon but in the evening after 7 p.m. So eat in peace and quiet, not possible! Will definitely not come back. Price performance, too expensive.
