Osteria Little Italy in Basel

It's a little loud and a little chaotic in Little Italy, but that might suit some people. However, the art of cooking was not invented here. At the beginning there was some rubbery bread and a Prosecco with plenty of residual sweetness for 10 francs. The burrata with ham for 26 francs was okay, although the mozzarella with an ice-cold core and a pale red tomato without any aroma was a disappointment. The Vongols apparently had a long journey and were also held up at customs. The specimens that were opened after cooking were therefore not very convincing. The ragu from the salsiccia was edible but completely overcooked. The carbonara was extremely salty and garnished with salty, fried bacon, making it inedible. We didn't eat them. The quite friendly but somewhat linguistically demanding condition accepted the tip about the inedible carbonara, but there was no reaction. It was no longer surprising that the chocolate cake for dessert came as a finished product. We would have expected more. The notice on the wall that Blick awarded the “Best Pasta in Switzerland” award isn’t enough either. A little more quality wouldn't hurt. We certainly won't be coming back, especially since we as a family paid over 300 francs for a below-average dinner.

It was the first time we were there. It was my birthday and we wanted to celebrate a bit. The food was ok, but the Crema di Zucca was fantastic, I have to say. We just ordered Crema di Zucca as a starter and then Fetuccini Salmone (the Fetuccini were not al dente at all) and Risotto Frutti di Mare. But instead of the risotto Frutti di Mare, Del Keller brought me a risotto with zucca. We said so immediately but he asked if I couldn't eat it that way. Well, I had just eaten a Crema di Zucca, I'm not that crazy about pumpkin... but in the end we accepted it because he asked very politely and - after we had already finished eating - gave us a few brought shrimps. He apologized several times and was very nice to us. So everything is ok and mistakes can happen but I had to pay for his mistake, which I think is very bad. They didn't help us pay or anything like that. If I owned a restaurant and I made a mistake, I'm sure the customer wouldn't pay for my mistake. I would have prepared the dish that was ordered for me. Or simply not collect the unwanted dish.

Delicious Italian food! My friend and I wanted the mussels, but they were out so we shared a charcuterie platter. The meat was SO good - a huge serving, really moreish. We also had linguine with clams. The pasta was a bit oily / soft for my personal preference, but the clams tasted great. The waiter was super friendly and helpful, even though we didn’t speak Italian or Swiss-German, and the restaurant decor is lovely. Would recommend!

As a family of 5 (with 3 adult children) we randomly chose Osteria Little Italy for an Italian night out. Their website and menu looked promising, the ambiance promised a warm welcome. We were not disappointed in any way! The welcome by our host was most warm and friendly, he was well informative, gave us ample time to chose, and was flexible with our food-sharing wishes (I wanted my kids to savour as many different dishes as possible as they were less conversant with the Italian kitchen, which is my favourite kitchen). We went for 3 starters shared amongst us 5, then 2 pasta dishes shared again, followed by a main course each of sole, veal, 2 different filet dishes and a pasta dish, also with various side orders (baked potatoes, vegetables and baked polenta). Each and every of the dishes was exquisite, both in presentation, as well as in taste, freshness and size. The wines were superb, the service was perfect, we never felt rushed, simply a perfect evening out. We shall be back!
