Pilatus-Kulm in Alpnach

Warning: There might be two separate restaurants here. Outstanding restaurant! The rating is absurd as I expect it to have at least 4.5+ stars. It is a bit expensive, but it is still worth it with the quality and given the location. The chef has done a great job in giving fine details into each dish. I ordered a berry drink cocktail, a white wine soup, the veal, and a cheese cake. The berry drink is gorgeous, with an interesting beer base. The soup has amazing cheesy and buttery aroma that I have never had elsewhere. The veal is just okay, but it is worth noting the grilled veggies are absurdly delicious. They are perfectly grilled and smoked, maintaining both the fresh sweetness and smoky taste. The cheesecake is not special itself, but the blend with marinated berries is perfect.

I can't fault the service. The food was quite good so far. What bothered me was the plate and the portion. The few vegetables were carelessly thrown onto the plate, at least that's what it looked like and the plate wasn't full either. You can perhaps garnish something like this nicely, then the plate won't look so empty and loveless. When it comes to dessert, I don't think the glasses are worthy of a dessert because they don't look nice and you can hardly see what's in the glass. The portion is rather small to ok for a large dessert ordered with a high price. The conclusion: Service and food are good, but you can still get something out of the rest. Stars 3-4, which I can't give, so I'll round up and send you my best regards

Great hotel/restaurant on the mountain. Breathtaking scenery and very good food. Beautiful, large, modern rooms and a rich breakfast buffet. Great events (e.g. crime dinner)

During hike we decided to get some lunch. We have been waiting 15 minutes for a free table. You need to wait patience and see who will leave and just sit after. The service will not sit you at the table, there is way too many people. I ordered vegetarian ravioli and they were really good! For a dessert I went for apple friend in a pancake dough served with vanilla ice creams. It was simply amazing!

We were unlucky with the weather but it was still such an enjoyable experience. There was an interactive dragon exhibition which both adults and kids enjoyed. As well as the "dragon walk" which gives you another angle to admire the top and bottom of the mountain from.

The quality of the dinner has definitely improved...that's a really positive thing... On the other hand, the selection at the breakfast buffet has noticeably decreased... be it in the selection and quality of the cheese, etc... we have been coming over for an overnight stay almost every year for years now and regret the step backwards... For the high price of the overnight stay... the quality and selection are disproportionate and we regret this very much and are also disappointed!!!

Älpler Magronä You should send the chef to a course on how to make real Älpler Magronä that also taste good. These were the worst I have ever eaten and at the proud price of Fr. 22.50!!! A rip-off price for pasta, a few hard pieces of potatoes and an indefinable sauce.

Nice mountain restaurant with ambience. The venison ragout was okay. I would really like to thank the friendly service specialist from the Bernese Oberland. If only there were more of their kind.

When in Switzerland, you absolutely can't miss indulging in cheese fondue. It's incredibly delicious and comforting, especially in cold weather. And imagine having it on top of Mount Pilatus, it's pure bliss! Especially with an icy cold beer, it's the perfect combo.

Unfortunately my visit to this restaurant was disappointing. Although the service was friendly, the food was not convincing. The fries were hard, brittle and didn't taste fresh. The meat also left a lot to be desired.

Ate here during our mount pilatus trip in Switzerland. The food is surprisingly good with decent flavors. We got the venison and beef entrecote, and both were flavorful. Service was great and there are views of the mountain from the window.

The most breathtaking views! Dining on top of a mountain, with crisp air and ice caps that look a stretch away - will not forget. The restaurant is high class but allows casual dress. Beverages were better than my main dish (had to be the sauce 😞). If you want to walk off your meal, you can climb to the mountain’s highest peak. Highly recommend, I would go again. There can be chills in the air, have a light jacket.

Insanely long waiting times and unfriendly service.

Spaetzli very dry (too fried). Venison entrecôte was not done as ordered. Deer pepper tastes very good but there is far too little sauce. It was OK, but I wouldn't eat here again.

Super great view. The food was middle class, Cordonbleu came 15 minutes late from the Salamander and was correspondingly dried out. Unfortunately the service is subpar.

Homemade croque monsieur-laughable couldn't even Leave out the ham because it's a finished product for 11.50!! A huge shame for any cook, because it was only toasted once. We really only expected the minimum and were disappointed. It just wasn't necessary. A shame!!Service nice….

Salad was good, Alpine macaroons less so. If/if you use convenience products, you could also refine them to taste.

After a strenuous climb, we visited the Pilatus-Kulm restaurant. Since we only had something to drink, we can't rate the food. The service was very friendly and brought our order to our table quickly. The view is of course very beautiful. Since there were a lot of guests, the service team was in a bit of a hurry. Otherwise we were satisfied and would like to come back.

We waited 15 minutes for the table, and waited 30 minutes for ordering but no one to take order.

Few guests, the waiters referred everyone to "colleague in charge" when they tried to order numerous times, even though they had nothing to do. The person in charge chatted with guests for half an hour and deliberately ignored us. You certainly didn't invent working. I'm ashamed of such "Swiss gastronomy". Half an hour was enough, I left. Shame on you!

Given that customers from all over the world come here, we think it's a shame that no lactose-free or alternative milk is offered. Service very slow. Great view.

Had a family lunch; food was delicious, service was friendly and the window view was great. We enjoyed it so much we ordered a banana split.

Bad experience with the service. We waited some time before they came to take our order. They bring us the wrong starter. Then we waited one hour before having our main course. They forget the drinks we ordered, we had to asked three time before they bring what we asked for. We received our wine after our main course 👎🏻. We had to much in our plate and we were able to finish everything. To conclude, there is a lot of improvement to be done for the service but the food was good.

Great, nice service from Luzia. Surprisingly good “Älplermagaroni” and fine “Alpine fitness plate”. Beautiful alpine flower pictures on the walls. It's a shame, these are in modern, black frames and not in keeping with the rest of the furnishings, in wooden frames. We really enjoy our trip with a holiday in Switzerland...

Desert served before the main dishes.

Recommended place to have some Swiss food with a great atmosphere.

We escaped the heat on July 11, 2023 and went to Mount Pilatus. Here the four of us had a wonderful meal in the hotel restaurant and enjoyed the view. The service was friendly and the food was very tasty. The portions could have been a little larger. The ice cream is a big hit. Here you can let yourself be pampered. Absolutely a recommendation!

Staffs were very friendly but too less to come to each table. Everybody was raising hands to call them. Foods were not bad.

Chicken salad came instead of the fish salad we ordered. The salad was probably out of the bag and unfortunately very old and shriveled in some places. The ambience is very nice and still a suitable place to take a lunch break. The prices are OK. The macaronis are completely sufficient as a small portion.

It's best to make a reservation! There is only this one restaurant on Mount Pilatus and it is very crowded at lunchtime. We had to wait a long time before we could pay, which is incomprehensible given the shortage of tables🤷‍♀️ but the food was delicious.

Thank you for this unforgettable evening. We spent the night on Mount Pilatus and had dinner in the Queen Victoria Hall. The service was friendly and courteous and at the same time very personal. The food tasted wonderful. We had a great 3 course meal. Thanks to the whole team.

Good views, good food and had a great time.

This restaurant has good food at affordable prices, considering that it is just one of 2 restaurants (excluding panoramagrill) at Pilatus. The service was good too, although things can get hectic during peak hours. Couldn’t help but try the Älplermagronen (Alpine Macaroni) and it certainly didn’t disappoint! One tip. Try to get in before it rains. Visitors usually enter in throngs to escape from the rain outside, so once the weather looks like it’s turning, get in quick!

Being a prime location restaurant I wasn't expecting much, but this restaurant blew me away, great food AND spectacular views. We got the breaded portobello, which was really juicy; the traditional minced veal with morel-based sauce, and traditional barley soup. All very delicious. I was surprised they also listed the sourcing of the main ingredients too.

The service is quite shabby, not received all the desserts ordered, not the ice tea wanted, makes the person pay for the carafe of water, we order a cherry tart, pay for it before receiving it, then we meet again to eat an apricot flan because there is more of the other. Having to pay before receiving what you order in such a place really sucks. Disappointed to have had this experience after the hike. Fortunately there is a view, but they have nothing to do with it.

We had dinner here as part of the hotel package, the restaurant is stunning and the service is really good. When it comes to the food itself I think the quality over price ratio is not fair, but I guess the higher rate for an OK food is due to its location.

We wanted to have a drink at the Restaurant/Hotel Viktoria. We were asked to sit in the lobby and were not served. When asked, they said he would be there soon. Nothing came of it either. After 15 minutes we left again. It's a shame, we'll definitely not consider the restaurant again.

Nice view but... We waited a long time for the food, asked several times, were repeatedly put off, and only when we threatened to leave was it explained to us that someone had already thrown the piece of paper away. Disastrous organization, very unprofessional. After 90 minutes we left.

At the top of the mountain! I can't believe they have such a solid menu! I was so impressed. but. . I didn't have much time to go down the mountain, so I ordered something simple. It's a hotel, so I'd like to stay there if I have a chance.

Worst food i ever had, i think their microwave is broken. I got Stone cordon bleu 2 times in a row. Ended up not eating anything.. Cant recommend this horrible food.

We were on Mount Pilatus on Sunday August 28th, 2022 and were very positively surprised. It was very busy/had a lot of people and yet the staff was very friendly and the food came quickly and was delicious! The portions could be a little larger, but you still have room for a dessert ;-)

Thanks to the super friendly and very attentive serving staff, we are happy to give one more star than we actually deserve. Unfortunately, the price-performance ratio is not quite right. It's a shame, because we don't have to be completely surprised that people always say that Switzerland is a high-price island.

Unfortunately we've never had great experiences with this restaurant. The first time we came the waiter was obviously overwhelmed - that's not his fault if he's in charge of 500 tables. After waiting what felt like an hour the potatoes in our spätzle were still crunchy. The most recent time we came we saw an interesting item on the menu - salad with grilled vegetables on top. What an interesting option. It tasted fine. We also had some french fries. In general I just feel that the waiters are very overwhelmed here, and mistakes are often made because of it. However, it's a very beautiful place.

Desolate organization suggests massive waiting times for ordering and payment. I have no idea why only three people can and are allowed to place orders and collect money. And, of course, they cannot order and collect across tables. “Please place the order with my colleague” you hear this sentence again and again, but unfortunately it is impossible to identify who this is. There are around 10 employees running back and forth on the terrace, bringing and clearing orders, but are not allowed to take orders. Just desolate. How is a non-German-speaking tourist supposed to know who should and can take the order at his table? I can't shake the feeling that the concept is really based on the "day tourist" factor, according to the motto, they only come once anyway. The food is generally good and it is served quickly, only when a small Pilatus salad, note 11.50 CHF, is missing the large bread croutons and seeds and the various salads are not served as individual portions on the plate, that is really, really true pure rip off. If the employee, the person who is allowed to handle the order and payment, confirms this and btw. announces that you can buy three kilos of lettuce in retail stores for CHF 11.50...yes, you can. It's also not really great to see that employees (drop-off and pick-up people) feed the mountain dolphins with fries and then bring the identical plate to the customer at the end of the terrace... just hair-raising.

We were on the terrace and were quite disappointed. Terrace was almost empty. Service poorly organized a huge mess. The prices are also high for a mountain restaurant. I wouldn't visit again

We waited for 25 minutes for someone to take our order, were ignored multiple times and then had to leave without success. Restaurant is very understaffed.

Super friendly staff, decent food and amazing views. We went there with our dog, they gave him a bowl of fresh water. Definitely a great place to be after a long hike.

A hike from the foot of the station to the summit of 4h30 for 8.6km. The landscapes are truly splendid!

I visited Pilatus-Kulm when I was 7 years old back in 2007. I remember this place fondly, but specifically an icecream I had here. It was called a “Mr. Jumpie” and I wondered if anyone recalls it. It was a blue icecream, and I have been searching for photos of it ever since I was a kid. If anyone has any evidence of this icecream, PLEASE get in contact!

The view is absolutely unique and the prices are fair when you consider the scenery. A cordon-bleu was 42 CHF and half a liter of beer was 6.5 CHF.

After having seen the amazing viewpoints at Mount Pilatus my wife and I were super hungry and were split between eating at Pilatus Kulm or going to Lucerne for lunch. So glad we decided to eat here! We were absolutely stunned by the views from the outdoor seating. We ordered the garlic bread, Alpine macaroni with apple sauce, Tomato and Potato gnocchi. They had two portion sizes and we went for the smaller size for macaroni and bigger for the gnocchi. Our server helped us in selecting the potion sizes and it was perfect for us. All the dishes were incredible!! We absolutely loved the garlic bread and gnocchi. The spectacular views made it a perfect meal!

This place was stellar. While I do only give it 4 out of 5 stars, that is because of personal taste and preference. The staff were kind and respectful, befitting of an upscale restaurant. I wasn’t told that it was going to be fancy and ended up coming in my light activewear, yet I didn’t get any judgmental or disparaging looks. Before I get to the dinner, I’d like to thank our waitress, Laura, who gave us advice and answered questions about the attractions down in Lucerne despite a small language barrier. She even went so far as to write down a list of different locations on a pad of paper for us, which helped us see a bunch of things we would’ve otherwise missed. Back to the food, the dinner came included with our hotel reservation at the top of Pilatus, and was a set 4-course meal, with a salad, soup, entree, and dessert. They have vegetarian options available, as well as meat. My family and I almost exclusively went with the beef and veal entree, which was fantastic - the veal was soft and flavorful, while the braised beef just melted on the tongue. The salad itself was also surprisingly delicious, even for someone like me who rarely gets salads. The only downside for me was the singular choice of soup - it was just a personal thing, but the slightly sweet mushroom soup just felt a bit too heavy and out of the norm for me. Additionally, while it makes complete sense that there would be limited options on a multi-course pre-set menu, it’s still a tad unfortunate if the courses don’t hold anything you particularly enjoy; however, that was not a problem for me. However, the dessert and entrees rapidly made up for it. The dessert was a small and moreish ensemble of a berry cobbler, a scoop of fior de latte (think a very milky-flavored) ice cream, and a strawberry compote (?) with a nice mascarpone topping over it.

Service is ok but nothing more. The price-performance ratio is miserable. You can understand a normal coffee for 5chf, but for 1 (below average size) scoop of ice cream 4.50chf or barley soup 17.50chf...well. Unfortunately, the cleanliness outside isn't great either.

On June 3rd I enjoyed an excellent Älplermagronemöhli with my daughter-in-law to celebrate her birthday. The service, especially from Ms. Sarah Habermacher, was exceptional: attentive, very friendly and extremely competent, as she served us unobtrusively. Thanks!!!

The food was fantastic. The beef was just right and the fries were delicious too. The waiter was always available, even during busy hours. He was also very kind and had a great sense for humor. The interior design is very pleasing. I enjoyed our time and would come again, although the pricing is in the upper range.

SERVICE: Served and friendly service (there are two restaurants on the Pilatus, this one is full service, the other is self-service). AMBIENCE: Cozy and historic inside, with a beautiful view outside. FOOD: good, fresh, passe. PRICE-PERFORMANCE: good considering the location.

We wanted to grab a bite to eat last Thursday at around 1:00 p.m. The terrace was full, so we wanted to sit inside. Even though the restaurant wasn't full, they didn't want to let us in and offered us a place in the entrance area, small, low and round, between the hotel reception and the restaurant entrance. The Lord was very arrogant and condescending. We gave up and took the next train into the valley.

Long waiting time before ordering and paying. Unfortunately, the friendly staff who are not allowed to cash out/take the order are not marked. Starter and main course served together without asking. This is suboptimal on the terrace when the wind is cool. Good information about the origin of meat. We all enjoyed the food itself.

They do treat American like the other countries.. we were basically ignore by our server..

Service friendly and attentive. The food was ok. Had to add a little salt and pepper. The menu selection could be larger and should be more varied. Especially if you often eat at the same restaurant, you don't know what else to eat. Almost always the same. But we always like to come back.

The view is obviously one of the main reason to eat there. Coffee wasn't great but the dessert was good
