Super nice service, good food. Unfortunately, since the restaurant was very full, it was also very loud. Otherwise everything is fine.

It instantly became one of my favourite restaurants in Zürich. Delicious food in a dining room that has a very nice energy! Highly recommend it!

Fine food in a cozy atmosphere.

Wonderful dinner, such a great place and helpful staff. Four of us, including two kids, enjoyed our visit immensely. We ordered the Tavolata and were surprised each time by the fantastic flavor, texture, temperature of each dish.

Everything is quite good, very fine tavolatas, extremely exciting wine list, especially Bordeaux wines. The service was friendly, the place was full. The acoustics are rather loud, and the children's menu leaves a lot to be desired. This could be done better with little effort.

Absolute catastrophe had reservations at 7.30 p.m. Store was full to the brim when we asked, it was a moment long until 8 p.m. then we went to the Linden next door Il Tiglio there we were given a warm welcome, this is the 2 times where this has happened to us, it's very bad The waiters are totally overwhelmed by the amount of people.

We recommend. We chose the Tavolata and were super satisfied. Great food, varied, delicious. Absolutely top value for money for Zurich (with aperitif and wine accompaniment approx. 120 per person). The service was not intrusive, but attentive and always on hand and with a pinch of humor. This makes eating out fun.

Spectacular cuisine!! Absolutely hats off to the chef and all kitchen staff, they do a sublime job! Four of us, we ordered 7 different starters, and they were incredibly tasty, amazing quality ingredients (veggies, calamares, kingfish everything) cooked to perfection. Service is loose and chilled, the ambience is lively, rowdy, enjoyable. We even tried a main and the paccheri was cooked perfectly the ragu was so so tasty. Summing it up, you can rarely find a place with such heart and caring coming from the kitchen and still serving yummy stuff and not some new age foamy non-sense. It is fresh, it is modern, it is fusion but accessible. And the prices are more than fair! I don’t know how long this can last but I suggest for everyone to go and take advantage!!! And thank you for a wonderful experience, will gladly return! BR, Adam (and to think that I almost forgot to mention the bone marrow with the braised beef…!!)

A very beautiful house with history: gently renovated inside in the style of a real old Zurich inn. Authentic. Cozy. The Tavolata “Metzgete” is excellent and surprisingly reinterpreted.

Just great. We've been there several times now. Service is always great, food is great… and you can take your own wine with you… great. And we usually have to take at least one wine off the menu because the collection is amazing. Next appointment is booked. :)

Those who wanted to eat with them were also very warmly welcomed. Until we went to the lower floor and we asked for a card in English, the lady shocked us with her answer, which was very cheeky and very loud and derogatory: no! And just left instead of coming to meet my colleague and recommending something to her. We left the restaurant.

I can't comment on the food and the ambiance seemed good until I asked our waitress for a menu in English. She answered me straight away and with a condescending look: “no” and left. My friend and I waited a few minutes, hoping we had misunderstood, but no. She just didn't come back to us. No excuses, no menu. Just rude.

Cozy atmosphere, warm and great attention from the personnel. Chef took good care of the allergy problem of my son. The food was amazing and cooked into perfection. Will definitely recommend for people who loves greatly prepard food.

At our first day and visit to Zürich we entered this restaurant after looking for a place to eat. When entering the restaurant we found a very warming atmosphere and we were right away welcomed. Inside it felt very cozy and warm and customers were clearly enjoying the evening. The waitress and the chef both gave excellent service and attention to the need from the customer. The food was super delicious, cooked into perfection. I would recommend everyone to visit restaurant for all metioned points.

The preparation and products are very good, authentic flavor of everything we tried. Friendly and efficient attention. The spectacular cheesecake. We will be back!!!

The Alte Löwe is a restaurant with excellent cuisine… the food is excellent! The staff is very friendly and attentive! The points deducted for the ambience are not actually due to the restaurant, but rather because the noise level of the guests can be very high... which can make conversations difficult! Overall love this place! Even the coffee is great! Keep it up!

The six of us chose the Tavolata, without pasta: it was very diverse in terms of flavors and textures, creative and excellently prepared: the meat was still pink, everything was surprisingly seasoned, plus the cozy garden and the great service - we would love to do it again!

Have tried it a few times over the last 5 years and find the food ok-ish. They were renewing the food scene in Zurich 5 years ago but now they are not on the same level anymore as their competition. Restaurants like Silex, Rank and Bauernschaenke set the tone now in Zurich in my opinion. The terrace outside is beautiful and inside is very cozy. What bothers me every time is that the staff is not personal, hospitable or attentive. I never feel welcome as a guest.

Good restaurant for a simple but somehow sophisticated lunch menu in the garden restaurant. Very crowded and close to the street, but really hard-working staff at reasonably fair prices.

We chose the restaurant because there were several gluten-free and vegan options advertised on the website. However, when we went, there was no option for any of them on the lunch menu. However, after consulting with service, we were at least able to order something.

I was very surprised by the very beautiful garden terrace. A bit inconspicuous from the street side and you just drive past it. There were four of us and we all ordered tavolata with pasta. I have to say the food blew me away. Everything prepared with loving details. The raw cauliflower salad is a poem. I've never eaten like that in a station wagon. Thank you, it was a successful, culinary, very nice evening with a fitting atmosphere. Only the chairs could use a cushion for long seaters. The staff is very friendly and it's not a shame to have fun. :-) I felt really comfortable with you. Oh yes... the warm "Schoggichuechä" is a poem. Keep it up!

What a cozy place. We caught the perfect summer evening and were able to enjoy the beautiful garden in mild temperatures. The service was very attentive, courteous and friendly. The food was good to very good, and the large wine list is particularly noteworthy. Easily accessible by public transport.

90 minutes to eat, not bad, worse, brothy pasta without salt, random dishes without rhyme or reason. Avoid it.

Visit from August 5, 2023: Great garden restaurant, excellent and prompt service and, last but not least, a compliment for the excellent quality cuisine. I will definitely remember the address for future events. Thank you and best regards

Fantastic. Beautiful sunny and shady biergarten. Great food and service with a real local Züri feel.

We had a fantastic evening here when they made the whole pigs over the fire. The meat was truly delicious and the staff incredibly kind and welcoming. The dessert was absolutely scrumptious too! I just felt there could have been a better selection of sauces to pair with all the delicious meat they had made.

Very nice beer garden, plenty of shade, lots of vegetarian, rather unusual dishes, surprisingly refreshing! You can sometimes choose between larger or smaller portions. The large portion is definitely not too big, how big is the small one? The ice cream is fabulous!

A wonderful garden in the middle of Zurich, easily accessible by public transport. Very attentive staff, the food tastes very good, the portions are appropriate. Nice wine list with local wines. Fair prices.

Beautiful garden, good staff and the tavolata was simply a pleasure. But the normal lunch menu no longer convinces me. (rather expensive)

I was very disappointed to discover that for the half portion at CHF 32.00 only 2 (!!) white asparagus and 4 potato wedges were served. Good quality or not but it was probably a bit expensive.

We had to send back all 4 appetizer plates... squeaky cleaned with bread we dipped in the sauce...🤤🤤 Calamares, meat salad, bruschetta and olives... they were DELICIOUS! Constantin was our waiter and he was amazing! A lot of fun, very personable and knowledgeable! Thank you for great food and great service!

Always worth a visit, maybe it's better to call and order a seat, it's not very big, but it's comfortable.

Nice restaurant easily accessible by public transport. We went here with a large group and tried "la table", different dishes are served in the center of the table on serving plates, a great way to share meals with a group of friends. The dishes are regional, classic but with some twists. They use regional and seasonal products. Everything I tried was exceptional, especially the warm chocolate cake. The service is very attentive, the staff is friendly and explains each dish.

Cozy place with great food. We had the Tavolata for four people and every single dish was outstanding. My favourite was the miso porkbelly.

Ate at a tavolata in the Alten Löwen, very friendly service, great food, special dietary requests of individual participants were fully taken into account, so that it was an all-round successful evening. Only the considerable volume spoiled the otherwise very good impression a little.

Been here a couple of times and I wasn't disappointed. Once we tried the Tavolata Menu (we were 4 people) and we were quite satisfied with it, with a wide range of dishes, from classic to more modern ones. If I remember correctly, they even asked us in advance if there was something we did not like/we couldn't eat, just to be sure we could enjoy all the courses. In another occasion, we tried the daily dish and everything was very good. Service is fast, kind and very attentive. During the summer is also a nice place for a drink outside. Price in range with any other Zürich restaurant, so for a tourist might be a bit pricey.

Went for Tavolata, for the hunting menu and to the Argentinian night. The three times was simply spectacular!

WOW... We came with high expectations and left the restaurant as completely happy guests. The garden under the trees is very inviting, the staff was great and the food was fantastic. It's not called "the best tavolata in Zurich" for nothing! ☺️ The price-performance ratio is great, the seasonal ingredients are all fresh, of the best quality and very tasty and the portions are large. Absolutely favorite restaurant! Spent a wonderful birthday here again, with the best food and very warm service. We are welcomed like friends every time! I'm looking forward to the next time

Yesterday (8/11/22) I was invited to lunch by my friend in the garden restaurant. We both had something from the daily menu. A small leaf salad as a starter (it wasn't that small.) The salad was served with very fresh bread and a delicious sauce. . For the main course (a vegetarian dish is also offered) we chose the perches in beer batter, classic with buttered potatoes, leaf spinach and tartar sauce. Everything served was fresh and of excellent quality. Really delicious. A perfect espresso rounded off our business meal. Also worth mentioning is the prompt, personal and extremely friendly service. Bravo. You feel comfortable and in good hands. The prices still remain: for what is offered in terms of quality (e.g. small leaf salad 5.50); Anyone who complains about the prices at the Altes Löwen has a problem of their own. From now on I am a regular customer. Thanks to the Alte Löwen team for the great lunch.

We enjoyed the rich “Tavolata” uncomplicatedly at garden tables under shady trees. Every dish (4 cold starters, 4 warm plus main course and dessert) was excellently prepared. Any intolerances were addressed and supplemented with an appropriate dish. The hosts were all very friendly and quick. I definitely recommend the restaurant and will definitely come back again in the near future.

Super cozy terrace - perfect for an instant break for lunch. Service very personal and very efficient especially for lunchtime conditions. The soup of the day It was a bit difficult to define but tasted decent. The curry, on the other hand, was an absolute blast. Rarely have I had such a fine curry for lunch as a daily dish. Chapeau. Price performance for the city of ZH is ok, but at the upper limit

Once upon a time the shabby Alten Löwen served chicken wings for student prices. Now like a Phoenix the place is packed due to a combo of tasty food, friendly service and a great location. The Alten Löwen still bites 👍!

Why only 1 star? Had food poisoning after visiting the restaurant. The restaurant was not impressed by the feedback and their answer was simply: “Something like that can’t happen with us because everything is always fresh on the plate.” Unfortunately, insight, friendliness or a sincere apology were out of place here. Probably the worst restaurant visit in Zurich so far!

I've been to the Restaurant zum alten Löwen many times because I think the F&B offering is very good - really good value for money. Unfortunately the last 2-3 times things have gone down a bit, especially the service! The warm hostess Maria wasn't there on exactly these 2-3 last visits... is that the reason for that? Please train the employees to be courteous and the waiter should lift his feet when walking! Kitchen 4 stars, service 2 stars, cloakroom above the kitchen MINUS 1 (it's really bad how bad the jackets smell) = total 2 stars

I should have taken pictures! From the outside Alten Lowen looks like what the Swiss call a "Beiz" which would be like a pub where the locals hang out to drink beer, play cards, smoke, watch ski races, and eat schnitzel. That's because it used to be a "Beiz." Times change for the better 😉 The AL has had a good scrub and is now a comfy but rather upscale restaurant. My lunch menu was Jamaican Pumpkin Soup, Pan Fried Sole with Braised Pumpkin and Homemade Gnocci, followed up by an Espresso Croquant with Espresso Foam. Very nicely prepared and presented. The team is young and hip. In the summer they have a lovely terrace and dogs are welcome. All in all an off the beaten track place that is worth finding.

Best Swiss food restaurant on the world.

A really fun place to enjoy a very large selection of sizable dishes on the terrace. Served in no apparent order, but delicious and surprising. Located close to the street, but traffic was not at all noticable.

Great garden, perfect for a meal on a beautiful summer evening

The garden is nice, but the food is so-so and our experience with the staff was definitely not agreeable. Most importantly when sending back one of the different tapas-like foods we had ordered because it (the hummus) was really bland/ undated and tasted like cardboard, and hadn’t touched the dish more than the samples taken to taste it (<10%)… the waiter comes back suggesting that it is indeed bland but that’s the way it is… and we got charged for it although we didn’t eat it!!! When again arguing about the charged uneaten ans sent-back dish, we are told that they cannot accommodate for our taste preferences!!!! Flabbergasted that the waiter preferred to charge us than to have us remember this place agreeably for a marginal expense!

Very good atmosphere, good food, was always well attended “before corona” - spontaneous visits usually ended up at the counter. Unfortunately we couldn't plan - we wanted to make a reservation for an aperitif with business colleagues - we were turned away with the reason "you don't normally eat at aperos" - neither reassurance nor a minimum sales guarantee could get us a booking. I've been avoiding this restaurant for 3 years now and not only have the alternatives within walking distance grown and better, there are also restaurateurs who are happy to welcome our group.
