Ristorante Contrada in Locarno

Had a great pizza with some very nice wine. Staff is very attentive.

Sweet Italian restaurant. The pizzas are world class. The dough is fantastic, really nicely salted, not too much and not too little. The gnocchi are homemade, very fluffy. The menu in general is rather small. But there is certainly something for everyone. The staff is committed, friendly and only has a very limited command of the German language (which doesn't really matter to me personally). There are beautiful lambskins outside, but the ambience inside could be a little nicer. There would be a nicer room at the back on the left, but it is not used for guests, at least at lunchtime. The restaurant is located directly on the Piazza Grande. We are therefore all the more surprised that the prices are actually moderate (actually even inexpensive for the location). We assume that the owner must have changed recently. The equipment is new, the menu is smaller and has a different look (large and made of wood), the lambskins outside are new and the old reviews don't correspond to our experience at all.

Despite bad reviews and the apparent “permanently closed” situation, we made our own impressions of the place. The innkeeper brought us from outside into a beautifully decorated hall. We chose Fondue Chinoise. The meat was very fresh and the sauces were “visibly” freshly prepared. There was also after-shock meat. The food was good, the kitchen and toilets were clean.

The toilet is not clean and the glasses are broken. The lasagne were not fresh and also lukewarm. They say that what the toilet looks like is what the kitchen looks like. Service friendly Not recommended

We eat a wonderful Cordon-bleu there 😋 top service and really good meal

Since the change of tenant, things have gotten even worse. The toilets are really in a very bad condition. Staff unfriendly and not at all welcoming Food tasteless and overpriced For me it's a typical tourist trap because Locarnese people avoid this establishment.

The waiter served us and went to drink beer and smoke.

When we briefly glance at the menu, we are almost pushed onto the terrace and placed at a table. Then we indicate that we are going for the ice cream menu instead of lunch (it is 2 p.m. and the terrace is almost empty) and the sighing begins. The waiter then spends all her energy sighing and taking away the cutlery and placemat and walks away without taking an order. When we ask about this later, she is again several minutes too busy with other side issues. We just ran away...

I had a Greek salad, the products are of very poor quality, the feta has no taste, nor the tomatoes or the salad. Even the oil and vinegar are low-end. All this for an exorbitant price. And barely friendly service.

Wanted to eat the ✨house specialty✨ (Gordon Bleu). Unfortunately we were disappointed. The restaurant sold over the course of day 10 and is now sold out. As an alternative we were promised a good entrecote. However, everything else is good. The meat was like chewing gum (bright red, almost raw) and was almost certainly frozen. Unfortunately a huge disappointment. Goodbye never again

Scammers! Besides overpriced and bad food, Risotto and Ossobuco, you are ripped off with too many glasses of wine and 10 euros for a bottle of water. Went to the neighbors for dinner, everything looked very good.

At the white night the waiters were rude and served us a spritz which was water and Aperol. Terrible service, I'm very disappointed. They left a friend of ours standing.

Slow, unfriendly service, half of the order was forgotten, had to keep reminding. Lukewarm food for which we felt like we had to wait forever, the table wasn't clean, a chair wobbled. There are many restaurants in Locarno that deserve this name. We don't come here anymore.

The best pizza 🍕! Very fine and fresh! Prices are ok for Switzerland And it's worth it because this pizza was really great! Diavola! Juliana! Prosciutto and Gorgonzola!

Contrary to all previous opinions, the service was very good. The spaghetti a la chef was good. The boss served it with a spicy seasoning. Like everywhere else, beer prices are astronomical.

Service: rude, gets annoyed quickly, doesn't take orders properly. Food: Wait at least half an hour, several dishes were served incorrectly (instead of pizza with mushrooms without, polenta instead of French fries,...) Conclusion: Restaurant not recommended, although it has a nice location. There are much better things nearby.

Good brasato, friendly service that is always up for fun. Price/performance is absolutely okay.

Unfriendly service and the prices on the receipt do not match the prices on the menu.

Prices about double as high as on the Italian side of the Lago Maggiore. Quality the same. Strange behavior of the server. I had to consume my pizza with one small bear only. I tried serveral times to order a second bear but the server passed by without response. Only about a third of all tables was occupied and I did not order in low voice.

The service was perfect: the staff were very kind to my father in a wheelchair, I have never experienced such kind and attentive service with him. The pizza was delicious, the wine very good and it wasn't expensive. I don't understand some bad recessions. And a place I can absolutely recommend.

One of the best pizza that I have ever had. We also had pasta and it was really fresh and delicious. For desserts we had the "grandmother's cake" that was homemade and it was delicious. The service was fantastic as well with plenty of smiles and good vibes. This place was a surprise!!! Super recommended.

Service was friendly. However, the croissants honestly didn't really have much flavor and were warmed up. The cafe was fine. Nothing special, but here you definitely pay for the location and the view over the Piazza Grande, which is very nice.

My opinion on all the bad reviews first. What is authentic service? Mistakes happen, and with many guests the waiting time can actually be longer. And if a Margheritta pizza in the Piazza Grande is considered expensive at 14.00 francs, you might not want to go to the restaurant. Go to the catering industry for a month and then think again about your lousy posts. About my visit to Contrada today. We experienced very friendly and warm service. The lady was nice, attentive and in a good mood. The two gentlemen, one the Chef de Service, were also very accommodating and did a good job. The two pizzas were very good, and the spaghetti carbonara was also tasty. As mentioned, the price is absolutely right. Anyone who likes Torta della Nonna will definitely get their money's worth here. It was perfect. Fine lemon cream and not too few pine nuts on top. My conclusion: we really enjoyed it and we'll be back. And if you have a bit of good humor, a bit of decency and three or four sentences of Italian, then it can be a really nice visit to the Contrada.

Pizza was good, but CHF 19 was too much for an average-sized Insalata Caprese.

Top waiter, they are incredibly nice :) the pizzas are just gigantic and inexpensive. I recommend !! :)

The pizza was good, it had a very thin crust but was a bit tough and difficult to cut, but the ingredients were undoubtedly fresh. The service gave me the impression that it was a bit inauthentically friendly and also a bit intrusive. I think it's an absolute disgrace that they charge CHF 2.50 for an extra plate (Supplementare Piatto), which I have never experienced at any other restaurant.

I easily had to wait 1 hour while I was starving!!! And the pizza wasn't even round🤯 The tables almost fell apart and the chairs wobbled dangerously🤐 Thank you very much I sprained my ankle

We ate at Contrada twice during our stay in Locarno and were very satisfied both times. Pizza thin, crispy and well topped. Pasta al dente (we had tagliatelle with shrimp). The prices are really cheap for this location on the Piazza Grande! The service was very friendly and attentive. We can only recommend the Contrada!

All in all ok, but nothing more, service friendly and nice if a bit imprecise, the chef's performance was fine, but the composition was rather questionable.

The food is good, But I have never experienced such poor service in any other restaurant. There was even some grumbling when paying. It's a shame about the actually good cuisine. But with such a work attitude (staff) you even lose your appetite

It was okay, the service was slightly overwhelmed = slightly longer waiting times, fresh food wasn't used everywhere, it was a little poorly decorated, but tasty and that's the main thing. :-)

Ate with the family on 2 evenings. Pizza, pasta, risotto. Very good. Friendly service, fair prices. Please allow for some waiting time, ideal times before 7 p.m. if possible, after that it gets crowded.

Food was solid. But at the end I received the bill from the waitress from the next table. The amount was significantly higher! He said off the top of his head how much my food cost. This was also far too high!!! Pure rip off! Avoid at all costs!

Friendly and courteous hospitality. The pizza and salad were delicious. Sure, the prices are Swiss, but the location justifies the price.

The Caffè-Ristorante Contrada is located directly on the Piazza Grande in Locarno and a few days ago we only had a latte macchiato in the beautiful weather out there. We therefore cannot judge the food and other drinks and therefore only rate our visit there. The service wasn't overly friendly, but also not unfriendly or even ignorant, as some others had described. We simply found them to be unobtrusive. A latte macchiato cost 3.80 CHF, so definitely not cheap.

I also can't understand the negative reviews at all. We had cordon bleu with potatoes and vegetables. The potatoes and vegetables were baked in the oven, the cordon bleu was briefly fried and then finished cooking in the oven. It was awesome! Very friendly service and when I asked for a little spiciness, I was given homemade chili oil. This was also very tasty. I will definitely eat there on my next visit to Locarno. My thanks to the staff and boss.

Can't understand the negative reviews... The service was quick, the staff was friendly and the 3 pizzas were very tasty! The dough is crispy, with a fine tomato sauce and fresh and generous toppings. The price is also completely reasonable! I would love to come back here

The restaurant is centrally located on Piazza Grande. Where you can enjoy the food outside and the hustle and bustle on the piazza. The food was tasty, but the staff could be a little friendlier, which would definitely be reflected in the tip.

On Rombo Days a cozy place to keep track of everything. The staff is, well, a bit special. But then she got used to our group. And we were very satisfied. The food is delicious, from pizza to meat.

This really cute restaurant is located in the heart of Locarno on the PiazzaGrand. The cappuccino was very tasty... unfortunately that was it. Unfortunately, my attractive waitress with black hair was very unfriendly. She took the order quickly, but when I gave a tip while paying... there was NO thank you or "ciao". I would have preferred to take the tip back. Maybe you noticed that I don't speak Italian, but the guest should still be important.... Well, whatever. It's probably intended more for tourists than locals. Mass processing.

I really can't recommend this restaurant to anyone! Service was unfriendly, the food was absolutely very bad and there were vermin (cockroaches) in the dining room. The toilet wasn't clean! Was very disappointed! Service
