Truly a surprise, food, service and cost. Too bad about the rain, eating outdoors with a lake view would have been the best! Reason to return.

Everything was excellent! We took the complete Saltimbocca menu that includes salad and dessert, very good price and unbeatable quality!

Very good local food with a lake view. Prices are appropriate and not overpriced. Service is a bit slow at times but there is no stress. The atmosphere is very homely with a small interior, reservation is necessary due to its popularity.

A highlight of our vacation! Reserved in the morning for dinner: the restaurant is cozy, you immediately feel at home, which was not least due to the friendly service and the incredibly good-smelling kitchen! The menu is very diverse, with something for everyone. It's also inexpensive and you can taste the love that went into making the homemade gnocchi in every bite! Definitely worth a visit.

A place in the sun and a polenta with Gorgonzola. What more do you need? I've never had this food combination before, but it was extremely tasty. The Gorgonzola was creamy, neither spicy nor salty. Just perfect. Finally, an espresso and a piece of crostata di frutta. A perfect meal 😀

Without a doubt the best place to spend quality time and eat something genuine and traditional!

Excellent lake view restaurant where you can enjoy a good Ticino lunch while visiting Locarno. The mushroom dishes (lasagna, tagliatelle, polenta) but also the roast meats are highly recommended! And thanks to the staff, very kind :) We will definitely be back!

Home cooked food; was worth the price paid. Had a saltimbocca with mushroom risotto. The risotto was pretty good.

If you are given two different flavor enhancers with your meal, that says a lot about the food. If you have the feeling that you are tolerated as a guest, that says a lot about the service. Not recommendable…

Best gnocchi ever! In addition, exceptionally friendly service.

The trattoria is located directly on the lake. We were there for a small lunch: regional meat platter and cheese. It was very tasty, but unfortunately the bread was rather weak. Unfortunately, the service was rather unfriendly, even though the restaurant was only about a third full. The coffee is good, it's fine.

Very nice little Trottoria by the lake in Locarno. Family run, uncomplicated guests as well as the service, which was very accommodating, even on August 1st when there was a lot going on and all tables were fully booked. Ev. a little more vegetarian or fish dishes would be great. We will be back Thanks

Unfortunately the restaurant did not meet our expectations. The salad was subterraneanly covered with a ready-made sauce, the same (bought) as in the tourist restaurants on the piazza. Unfortunately, the risotto was completely overcooked without any “sloppiness”. You could build 10 cm high towers with the overcooked rice. With Saltimbocca it would be nice if the stem was cut off from the sage leaf. We had to wait more than half an hour for the panna cotta. At least we were offered a grappa. Unfortunately, the whole meal was accompanied by a smell of feces coming from the drain. A real shame for the whole evening.

I would eat from the hand every night. Gnocchi 3p a spectacle. Pure taste

Finding a place with local specialties on the lakeside of Locarno is difficult, this alone is a reason to stop for lunch.

Highly recommended, Fatima was an exceptional, smiling person who was able to recommend excellent dishes. It will be a regular stop when I return to Locarno

Always very nice and the place is splendid

Since we ran out of sage for the Gnocchi Burro e Salvia, gnocchi were served in pure butter without asking and the full price was charged. We would have liked it to be pointed out if an ingredient was missing so that you could order something else. But at least that the complaint is addressed and, for example, a dessert is offered or the main course is not charged for. After asking several times, a discount of 4 francs was granted. We were very disappointed. After the main course, no one asked for coffee or dessert. Therefore: not recommended. It's a shame, because the rest of the food was good and we would have been happy to pay a tip otherwise.

Is an okay restaurant. The food was good, not outstanding. We got the bill straight away for the dessert that was included in the menu. My husband didn't have any dessert with him and wasn't even asked if he wanted one. A pity.

This place is truly a gem! The quality of the food is great, the portions generous and the staff incredibly friendly. It is a restaurant that focuses on traditional dishes. Locals frequently come here too.

Great food for the price. Authentic food and out of the mainstream. I suggest the polenta con ossobuco, quality of the meat and sauce are good and the polenta is just perfect. I will come back.

We were looking for a place with local cuisine and were not disappointed. A simple but very cozy restaurant with a family atmosphere. The staff was extremely nice and in a very good mood. The food was homemade. The gnocchi and polenta in particular deserve 10 stars, as does the rest of the food. We will definitely come back and are already looking forward to it.

Small, beautiful restaurant in a lakeside location. We only had a drink but were pleasantly surprised by the good price/performance. Will definitely come back next time we visit Locarno.

Today I had risotto at the Trattoria. After a few bites, I noticed that I had bitten onto something strange. I took it out of my mouth and realised that it was a piece of glass 4 cm's long and 1 cm wide. Needless to say I was shocked! How did this piece of glass get into my food and what if I had swallowed it? I showed it to the waitress and she mumbled a lame : "Entschuldigung". I left the restaurant in a state of shock! How can this happen and how can they be this negligent?

Very slow service, food oversalted. Unfortunately not a good experience.

If you are looking for a rustic place, with home-made cuisine, family-run, friendly and very informal and therefore want generous and exquisite dishes, you are in the right place. Highly Recommended!

Wonderful "Beiz" or rather "Chnelle" with authentic food at reasonable prices and almost in the center. I didn't think such a thing existed! For everyone who hates chichi. Of course, the local German-speaking Swiss take over the place. The staff is very nice, but they hardly speak any German and you can only make the necessary reservation by telephone - so hopefully this oasis of Ticino hospitality will remain with us for a long time.

We decided to eat here based on the look, atmosphere and reviews. Very friendly, the selection is clear and good. We had the tagliatelle with porcini mushrooms (fresh) and spaghetti bolognese and for dessert pana cotta with pistachios. There could have been a little more of the main course to fill you up and those were the large portions, since everything is very expensive here anyway, it was within reason. We can recommend it, especially since it tastes good and is fresh, which we couldn't find in the city center / market area.

We were very well received in this restaurant by the lake. A high chair was made available to us for our daughter, and a bowl of water for our dog. Our dishes were served with great good humor. Dishes which were actually very good.

- Reservation by telephone worked well - Weekend menu selected - Waiting time for menu salad: 1.5h (!!!) - Insalata Mista The portion size of the menu salads was manageable, neighboring tables, some of which also had a menu, had larger portions - 1 of 4 main courses arrived wrong, but after a long wait we kept it. Have Funghi Risotto (not good, vegetable broth taste very dominant, Funghi only very occasionally) Additionally received on the house including an apology. - Most of the staff were friendly and helpful, but that evening at peak time the kitchen was probably over capacity... - Goat cheese starter tasted quite neutral and the side salad according to the picture was missing, some dishes could use more spice - Good portion size and pricing - The order in which the food is received and delivered should match. - Handwritten information to the kitchen and receipt in the cash register system must match. - Quaint Italian restaurant with attentive staff

Nicely located but we had to wait 1 hour 20 minutes for a spaghetti dish and gnocchi. If you cannot take in new customers...don't.

Very good cuisine, very good service. When the restaurant filled up, we didn't have a chance to order or pay for dessert. So after waiting half an hour we put the money on the table and left.

Very friendly service. We ordered Saltimbocca with risotto, polenta or fries and were very satisfied. The pannacotta for dessert was wonderful. The performance-price ratio is top.

The service was uncoordinated. The cruet on the table was dirty (It was Maggi and Fondor). The next time I see something like that I'll run away. The food tasted bland. Two stars because the location is exceptionally good, right on the lake.

Here you can find a small, well-kept selection of typical Ticino dishes at absolutely reasonable prices. The restaurant is quite small and the service is very personal. We often take the menu of the day with a starter, main course and small dessert, usually a panna cotta with fruit or syrup, at around Fr. 25.00. The locals can also be found here regularly, which is certainly not a bad sign.

- Waitress was rude - Food didn't all come at the same time, the children's fries came 5-10 minutes after the adults' main courses - Instead of asking if everything was good, the bill was slammed onto the table without comment during the main course. No question whether we want to order cafe or dessert... - There was a dish on the bill that we neither ordered nor accidentally brought to the table. I had to explain this in detail to the waitress, it seemed like she wished I had overlooked it. - To top it all off, there was a piece of plastic wrap in my food. After all, this dish was taken off the bill on her own initiative, so it still has two stars. - Portions were rather small - Toilet was dirty, one had a very wet floor All in all, it was a disappointment and we couldn't understand the good reviews, even though we were looking forward to good food.

Cozy Italian restaurant right on Lake Maggiore

The authentic, home-style cuisine with specialties from the region is very popular with locals and tourists. The service is very friendly and personal and the prices are extremely fair and cannot be compared with the usual tourist traps. My favorite are the Trippa, the best around. We'll definitely be happy to come back to Trattoria del Lago.

We had polenta with mushrooms and stew, excellent dishes. Prices slightly lower than average.
