I came to this restaurant 3 years ago, and I swear the chef has to earn at least 1 Michelin star! The food is impeccable and the chef was very nice to customers!

Great. I'm excited. Regarding the food: the choice of food is very limited, but that's a good thing because the food that is prepared and served is presented with great attention to detail and tastes great. True to the motto quality over quantity. About the service: I think I have never enjoyed such courteous, polite, friendly and attentive service. Our water was empty and we were offered Hanenwasser with our dessert so we didn't have to buy another bottle of water. Something like that is not a given. About the ambience: The restaurant is small so it doesn't get too loud and it stays cozy. But you should reserve in advance. The tables, chairs and place settings are perfectly clean and elegant.

The Umami Taste restaurant impressed me from start to finish with its exceptional quality and warm atmosphere. As a true ramen lover, I was blown away by the delicious variety of flavors in each bowl. The noodles were cooked perfectly, and the broth had that umami-rich flavor that enchanted my taste buds.

This ramen place was amazing! The food was delicious, everything was clean and neat.The place is small but very cozy and you have everything what you need. Umami Taste is one of the best restaurants I've ever eaten at. I had the pleasure of eating Wagyu beef tartare, Angus beef ramen and cheesecake. The tartare was unlike any beef tartare you have ever had before! Simply indescribably delicious and creamy🤩 Ramen was very tasty, not too greasy, nice and salty with excellent beef and good broth. The dessert is again in the category “the best thing I have ever eaten” so the best cheesecake I have ever eaten or at least in the top 3. It was just like being in a real top restaurant: every little thing you eat tastes world class and you feels like it's the best thing you've ever eaten. Starting with the herbs on the ramen, to the sauce on the tartare, to the strawberry on the cake. It is rare to find a comparable taste experience (one of the few examples: the post office in Lech). In terms of price, the main course is around 30 Fr., the dessert is around 15 Fr. and the 1 liter water bottle costs 9 Fr. It is also important to know that there is only a small but fine menu and there are actually no classic starters. I will visit the restaurant again in the future 👍

It’s one of the best restaurants I’ve been to. The Tatar is amazing and they also have great beers and schnapps. Service and atmosphere are excellent, I’ve been there twice and I’ll come back for sure.

There’s a reason this place has over 160 reviews and still has a perfect 5 star rating. From the plating of the food and its taste to the atmosphere and the service this place gets a perfect rating everywhere. I was particularly blown away by how beautifully all the dishes look and enjoyed my stay very much. Though the restaurant was quite full, my food came out a lot quicker than I had expected. Definitely recommend this place despite it being on the pricier side (still very worth it for all they have to offer, in my opinion).

Nowhere else in St. Gallen is it worth going out to eat other than here. Stunningly stylish furnishings and cozy atmosphere. The whole family is warm and accommodating. Our children were also very impressed by the variety in every single dish. Really an experience!!!

Recently visited the Umami Taste restaurant in St. Gallen and was impressed by the quality of the food and the attentive service. The atmosphere was relaxing and the interior was stylish. A must for anyone looking for an authentic taste experience in St. Gallen.

Just perfect. Only few dishes on the menu but pefectly executed. The ramen was incredible. A very tasty broth. The noodle salad was cery well seasoned with a very tender tuna. Even the dessert was perfect. Not too sweet.

Hands down in the top 10 places I have eaten so far. Very kind staff and nice atmosphere, only downside is that the bus goes next to the outer tables in the small street. Very reasonable prices for this quality in Switzerland.

Great taste for a vegan ramen. Rich and thick feel from peanuts, making the miso-based soup far more enjoyable. People here are always warmly welcoming and friendly. The only authentic "ramen" place in St.Gallen.

Indescribably good Always an experience

Didn't pick up ramen today but enjoyed it there with my family! Simply unique from A to Z! The tartare, the burrata, the ramen, everything! The plates seemed like paintings! And the taste is hard to beat! And the desserts were the icing on the cake! Extremely nice and loving service. What more do you want!

This really is amazing. The food just as delicious as it is pretty. We were a group of 5 that went for lunch and we all ordered the burrata for starters and in complete awe when they arrived. They were beautifully created and presented and mouthwatering delicious. All the various tastes and textures complimented each other to perfection. We also all had the homemade ramen in a peanut-chili soup and it was also made to perfection. We had the vegetarian, the pork and the veal and all agreed the food was amazing. The staff was extremely friendly, helpful, multilingual, and quick. This is a place to go to pamper yourself, bring your friends, family or just for a healthy and delicious lunch option.

Best ramen I’ve eaten so far in CH!

With the love of my life we ​​went to this great Restaurant. Excellent and refined dishes! The decoration is at the cutting edge of modernity, just one word MAGNIFICENT!!

The menu is kept small, which speaks for good and fresh cuisine. The food is extremely tasty but also has its price. The service was still a bit inexperienced, or at least gave the impression, but it was all the more friendly. The guest area is relatively small but cozy, so it's worth making a reservation in advance.

Friendly and kind family run restaurant. My wife and I deeply appreciated the gesture of the owners for keeping the shop open a little longer for us to order something to eat. You can tell that the owners have a passion for what they do, and take pride in their work. We really enjoyed our time there, and the food was really good. We ordered the Erdnuss Chilli Ramen, and the Umami sandwich, both which were delightfully tasty along with the pulled pork. Vala!

Shop owners were super friendly and kind, they were closed for a break but they welcomed us anyway for a meal and gave us a free drink too! We ordered a pulled pork burger and pork belly ramen, highly recommend! Homemade ramen paired with onsen egg (I suspect it's homemade too), it's more on the saltier side but my husband likes it. I love how well they made the pulled pork burger but the portion was too much for me. I finished it anyway!!

You can just tell that everything is very well coordinated and that you care about the well-being of your customers and that you cook with passion and conviction. The food is really exceptional. The salad with goat cheese has so many different flavors and every bite is slightly different. 10/10. The vegetarian setting is extremely deep in flavor (keyword umami) and the homemade noodles make a clear difference. As a Japanese person, I can only say that this is the best setting outside of Japan that I have ever had the pleasure of trying. 10/10. Really great restaurant. Super nice people who, as a family business, conjure up really fantastic dishes together. Every dish and every ingredient is happily explained and you know exactly where everything comes from. The peanut chili ramen really has a great taste. Slightly spicy with a strong peanut note. Plus the onsen eggs that were on point. The Turgauer Apfelschwein was buttery soft and the smoke flavor could be tasted great in the soup. The homemade noodles round it all off. Absolute recommendation 👍

We had a great experience at Umami Taste, we came in because of a celebratory dinner and the food looked great so we decided to give it a try. We were so pleasantly surprised as every dish that came out was a pure work of art. The chef (who is one of the sons in the family of 4 that runs the place) could potentially be a Michelin star holder as his plates were not only beautiful but were flavored with nuanced polish that I have only experienced a few times before. We loved the truffle pasta and the apple pulled pork sandwich, which blew our socks off inducing light, savory, and umami flavors. Highly recommend this family owned place as it is incredibly underrated!

A dinner with the family, it was like a midsummer night's dream, everything was perfect, excellent service crowned with authentic friendliness. The presentation of the food is a painting and the taste is poetry. I highly recommend it! And very important, the espresso also deserves a special place.

If you're looking here and saying "90 5 star reviews? Must be fake, no way" I can assure you they're 100% all true. This is hands down the best ramen I have ever had. Everything is flawless and the chili oil is the perfect amount of heat. The broth is so thick and savory, it's like no other broth before. The egg is PERFECT. The veggies are crisp and just the right amount of tang. The noodles are just thick enough and in the perfect quantity. I cannot put to words how much I love the pork....it's beyond compare. Neno and Sasha are also so kind. It's like your friend inviting you over for dinner and then they serve you the best ramen of your life. I wish I could come more often. I only had ramen (and beer), but I absolutely trust that the entire menu is flawless. If I lived in St Gallen I would move in above this restaurant. Heck if I lived in Switzerland I would day trip here just for lunch. If I could give more than 5 stars I absolutely would. Thank you thank you thank you.

The service is extremely accommodating, you can look directly into the open kitchen and see how the food is being cooked. You don't really expect it when you eat here for the first time: a real culinary broadening of your horizons. The Umami Taste is rather small, a purely family business. The chef here is committed to perfectionism, father, mother and brother lend a hand and complement each other to create a harmonious overall picture. You can sometimes see the talented chef, for me the center of the experience here, using tweezers. What you are then served are taste explosions, and it is always mentioned that everything is homemade, from A to Z. But you also notice that when you eat here. I've never eaten such good tartare before. But that's not all: it continues like this with the ramen: intense in taste, well thought out, and by the way, the noodles are of course homemade. Could it be that things get even better? It will be: The lava cake, a composition of perfection for the eyes and the palate. Everything fits together here, the attentive service, the food... you go home satisfied. I was really pleasantly surprised by the umami taste.

5+++ First visit today and we were overwhelmed. Inconspicuous from the outside, but inside a kitchen of the highest standard awaits you. Warm welcome and first class service from the start. Starters: Wagyu tartar and burrata were lovingly and artfully prepared and served personally by the chef. Not only visually bomb but also taste bomb. Main course: Chili peanut ramen with tender alpine pork, complex and flavorful. BBQ pulled pork sandwich delicately juicy. At the end, perfect ice cream and sorbet and, first of all, wonderful homemade pralines with passion fruit filling. All in all, a star-level taste experience. You can see and taste the chef's passion in every bite and you can also feel it when you talk to him.

UMAMI Taste - the most incredible insider tip in Eastern Switzerland The small restaurant Umami Taste is completely inconspicuous in the monastery district in St. Gallen. The ambience is unspectacular with just a few tables, easy to miss from the outside because it is so small. In a small space it has around 16 seats in addition to the kitchen, where you can watch the chef at work. But then comes the food: absolutely brilliant: every dish sensationally balanced, soft - crispy, sweet - salty, warm - cold, bitter - sour: everything is always present. And then the colorful and creative presentation. Just genius. For me the sixth dimension of food. And everything is an experience for the palate. Every bite. The best tartare, an incredible Wagyu 5+, ravioli with sensational cheese filling, truffle pasta - 2 star level with no frills at a bargain price and without "pipapo". Umami button.

You enter a small restaurant with a great atmosphere. Then you are immediately greeted very courteously and shown to your seat. The small and clear map is explained very competently down to the smallest detail. All three of us were impressed by the ramen with Thurgau apple pork and also ordered the beer, which was named the best IPA in Japan. The ramen was simply amazing and the ipa went perfectly with it! We'd love to come over for dinner so we can try more of the menu. keep it up!

Wow! The best ramen soup I've ever eaten! You can taste the quality and the love for cooking... even the soup noodles are homemade. The couscous is also an absolute hit. Prepared like in a star restaurant and a really warm, nice and great host family. Definitely coming back!!
