A safe choice. Solid and reasonable in price.

Unfortunately it was pretty disappointing. The reception was nice, the drink came quickly but then I had to wait 50 minutes for the food. Schnitzel was really very good, unfortunately the fries were miserable. 42 CHF for this - one time is enough. The ambience would actually be good if the ambience wasn't constantly disturbed by the loud, unpleasant ringing of telephones. I've never experienced that before either.

Very helpful, a little slow but the restaurant was exceptional both in terms of the atmosphere and the food. We had a great time and I recommend the gnocchi which were excellent!

You can enter this store with your eyes closed~ Every dish is delicious and the wine is delicious; the waiter is super patient and answers all my questions with a smile~ Also gave me super delicious ham bread

I have been to many restaurants in many different countries and have never experienced service this bad. We interacted with 3 staff members and they were all ridiculously rude. We waited forever to get served WATER and MENUS. There were people seated after us and they were immediately given water/menus. The hostess did not even show us to our table. She just pointed at it. The food was mediocre at best, certainly not worth the price. We have been to several other restaurants in Bern and the service was always stellar. Update- The manager of Hotel Bern also reached out to someone I dined with who had their complete own experience and asked us to REMOVE our reviews and consolidate it into one. Beware of this place!!!

The service here was wildly bad. I’ve never had such awful, rude service in Switzerland or anywhere else. We waited over 20 minutes to receive menus, during which time two other tables were sat and ordered their food. They were each done eating before our food arrived. We had to ask for water and a wine menu. The servers were very disrespectful and unprofessional. The food was nothing special and certainly did not make up for the disturbing behavior that the staff exhibited.

In addition to really delicious food and a wonderful ambience, there is hospitality here that is second to none. We were looked after so excellently by a lady last night - it's unbelievable that something like this still exists.

If it weren’t for the horrific service and blatant ignoring of our party, it would have been a decent place to go for dinner. But 30 minutes after being seated, the two tables closest to us had been given water, bread and had their orders taken. We had to flag down the server just to put in an order for water. We felt so disrespected.

Very little food and a strange composition, you have the feeling of being a nuisance to the staff.

Beautiful and stylish restaurant in the heart of Bern. Nice, simple atmosphere that still brings that certain something to the point. You feel good. Friendly and attentive service. Not intrusive at all, we never had to wait for anything, so we were able to enjoy our time together and were well pampered and served. The menu offers something for every taste and the portions are large. The plates were lovingly and beautifully designed. Price-performance ratio is absolutely right. Lovely again.

It is an elegant place, with food from the city. They also have local beers. This beautiful restaurant has history in the city of Bern. Nice visit, although it is somewhat expensive ;)

Very well seasoned, the meat is on point and melts in your mouth. Fine sauce rounds it off perfectly. Spaetzle in a separate bowl and very tasty. Red cabbage goes well when cooked and seasoned. Service was attentive and friendly at all times despite the full house. Thank you for the service and the fine food. Gladly again.

Fries weren't freshly made, burger bun was soggy but the service was friendly and the atmosphere pleasant.

The deer saddle (hunting season) was simply perfect! Cooked sous vide, presented in two courses, I really enjoyed it! The other more traditional dishes on the menu are also very good, but if you have the opportunity, take the venison!

Very centrally located, easy to reach on foot. There is only parking in one of the parking garages in the area. Very friendly service, but that was almost it. Every second order was delivered incorrectly, the food was oversalted and the roe pepper was as dry as the Sahara. Price/performance was definitely not right here.

Breakfast food and service very good. Dinner food was inconsistent and service was slow and RUDE.

The service was outstanding! Our waitress ensured our dinner experience was exceptional. Our meals were well presented and delicious. We will definitely come back next time we come to Bern.

Very nice restaurant! I really enjoyed the food. The cordon bleu was very juicy and delicious. With the vegetables and fries it was a large portion. +++ Top service! very friendly and accommodating. +++ Ambience ++ Location +- price-performance; a little overpriced +- What I found a bit special: there was ketchup from a tube. Otherwise there are no other sauces for the fries. It looked a bit bizarre (complaining at a high level). Definitely worth a visit!

On vacation in Bern and ate here for dinner. Food, service, and atmosphere were very good. We started off with a mixed salad with house dressing which was ok - nothing special. The presentation was lovely and the salad ingredients were good but I didn't care for the dressing. I'm used to blue cheese or ranch and their house dressing was very different. For the main we had beef from Zurich with a mushroom cream sauce - it was very good. It also came with shredded, pan-fried potatoes and Bernese market vegetables which were both delicious. For dessert they served fruit, lemon Gelato, and lemoncello mascarpone cream which was very good. The mascarpone cream was exceptional.

An excellent experience. We had dinner there two nights, with wine.

The local Swiss food is too salty for our taste, but the salt here is deliciously salty. It was delicious as long as you were careful with the sauce.

Pleasant restaurant in the middle of Bern next to a church. We easily got a table outside with a view of the Church surroundings. Friendly, English speaking and attentive staff who gave us everything we needed. Got the veal and Rösti with a glass of red Syrah wine from Valais. Food was delicious, well prepared, and prices were comparable to other restaurants. We enjoyed dining here and would definitely come back to have dinner again.

We really enjoyed the food and the ambience, but they were understaffed so the bartender served our table. Otherwise this was a great place to have dinner. The dishes were excellent.

We had a very pleasant evening meal at Volkshaus. Our waiter, Achille, was most helpful. The restaurant has a beautiful meat slicer as you walk in, and our waiter brought us an amuse bouche of the cured ham on fresh country bread. I had a small caprese salad and tagliata (sliced entrecote), and my wife and son had wiener schnitzel (breaded veal cutlet). When asked, our waiter suggested that my wife might try the German potato salad instead of fries, so we were able to try three kinds of potatoes. Our wines and beer were also delicious.

I don't recommend it. You come in and they sit down and they ignore you for the whole evening. You have to keep calling

The female waitress of Portuguese origin was absolutely top. Multilingual, absolutely friendly and with a lot of style. Highly Recommended.

Very nice restaurant. A large bar decorates the dining room. The menu is well stocked with classics, such as: burgers, entrecot & cordonbleu etc. But vegetarian and vegan options were also available. Good wine and pleasant atmosphere. Gladly again!

We ate well, were served attentively and the facilities were above what the name suggests.

Beautiful hotel - Hotel Bern Restaurant - Volkshaus 1914 - great food for a great price, seasonal, homemade desserts, so bomb, staff always pleasant. On the 8th floor on the roof of the hotel there is a wonderful terrace with a wonderful bar, a view of the whole of Bern, beauty, I recommend visiting.

We had a lovely meal last night and were looked after excellently by Ms Helia Marques. Thank you very much for the pleasant evening and always happy!

No disabled access (or well hidden????). If there are a lot of guests, the place is too loud. Food and service absolutely top.

It's a bit pricey though The staff are friendly and the restaurant atmosphere is nice. I didn't feel like it was a waste of money :) I ordered schnitzel with rösti and enjoyed it😋 (The schnitzel on the aperitif bread is so big that it fills you up👍🏻) It was a fun meal!!

Dear Volkhaus team, we were invited to a birthday event yesterday on February 18th, 2023 and would like to praise you for the fact that food is a culinary experience, starter, soup, main course and desserts, a compliment to the perception of food for allergy sufferers We've never experienced a great meal overall, the service was friendly, the staff were courteous and not intrusive, just the way the guest appreciates it. Super fine Wienerschnitzel. Recommended.

A great restaurant in itself. The plus in addition to the good food is the bar, where you can first arrive. There is a 2* deduction for the vestibule because it doesn't work. Every time someone enters the restaurant, you feel a very unpleasant rush of cold air inside. Dear Volkshaus, this urgently needs to be fixed...

A culinary delight. The location, the service and the food, simply wonderful. Everyone was friendly and accommodating, and the food was praised by everyone I was with. I really enjoyed it too. Gladly again and absolutely recommended. My only personal drawback was the rather small portion of the dessert compared to its price, which I found to be rather unreasonable (For example, the cheese cake in a glass or the chocolate tart with a liquid center.). Which all average CHF 13.-. Given the size of the portions, a maximum of CHF 9.00 would have been enough. Otherwise, as already mentioned, a culinary delight.

Food was delicious and combinations were quite authentic. We were a group of 9 on Saturday lunch (reserved weeks in advance) and staff was obviously overwhelmed, spoke also very basic English, no French. They were very friendly and tried their best, bus still couldn't answer any questions (e.g. what the soup or cake of the day was). No parking. credit cards accepted. Menüs are available in English/French, though amount is very limited.

Excellent food, my salad, fresh and crunchy, the roasted seeds crispy, the vinaigrette suited my palate. I chose a wild mushroom spaetzli pan, the sauce to die for, a balanced mushroom cream sauce. My counterpart chose venison schnitzel which was served with mushroom raviolis. Everything fell into place there. I'm going back to the Volkshaus.

I'm used to this brasserie in the heart of Bern. A sure bet with a local menu and Swiss products like pasta. The cordon bleu is great!

Very disappointing... the service leaves something to be desired... We ordered our starter but no one ever took our order for our main dishes. We left hungry!

Fantastic service from the lovely ladies of this restaurant! We had lunch here after a walking tour. The dessert is bomb!

Magnificent restaurant. We ate excellent dishes like the Loetschberg perch fillets, the huge breaded slice or the perch fillet fritters with a very good salad. The mousse with two toblerones is also recommended. As for the staff: very friendly, attentive and professional

First visit, we ate on the terrace as a couple with a young child. Pedestrian street with traffic but the atmosphere remains very calm. The meal was good, the portions were correct and what we had was homemade. Excellent cordon bleu. We had a great time.

Arrived with a group of over 30 people. Reservation and pre-ordered food with water without H2CO3 on the table is ok. Placed and served in a seminar room on the second floor, well. But if the first question is whether the soup should be served, instead of 'Would you like an aperitif?' and when ordering drinks becomes a struggle, I wonder, what's going wrong?

The food was good, including a vegan option. However, the wrong dessert was served (was replaced) and we waited a long time for the main course because the kitchen must have forgotten us. In general, the service was not convincing.

Very tasty food, but the waiter apparently didn't like me (didn't say "here you go, lady" to the person I was with) and didn't say a word to me. The Volkshausburger was great, but fell apart while eating. This meant that it wasn't easy to eat and earned me negative points from the waiter. A vicious circle. But otherwise great, kiss goes out

Very good tender venison schnitzel. Add fried Brussels sprout halves. The mushroom ravioli instead of spaetzli was good, but a bit hearty. Pleasant service, not intrusive.

Good restaurant where we ate good meat, we had a very good dinner. It's the second time we've been to this restaurant and we've always really enjoyed the meat they have. We'll be coming back.
