Adler in Stein am Rhein

Absolute top restaurant! From the table to the food and the service was great! The young, brisk service was very personable and friendly! We will be going back to Stein am Rhein just to eat at Restaurant Adler.

We have been coming to Stein am Rhein for years for both business and private reasons. The Adler is always our point of contact when it comes to food. When I read certain reviews, I wonder whether these people were actually there. We were ALWAYS greeted and served very friendly, and the food never gave rise to any complaints. We are already looking forward to our next visit to the Adler. The trip from central Switzerland to Stein am Rhein to Adler is always worth it.

Excellent home-style restaurant. The freshly prepared Rösti are particularly recommended. I will definitely go back and try more delicious dishes. 😉

The restaurant is really good. The environment and walls really nice. The waiters are all really nice to us. We ordered two rösti and they were delicious, especially the one with mushrooms.

Good food, very friendly service

We were there last week, on a great sunny and warm autumn day, the weather invited us to have dessert outside. So we sat on the Adler's terrace and wanted to order a coupe/ice cream for the kids, then the gentleman replied: There is no dessert, I'm alone... in a very harsh tone! I asked again, no stick ice cream or anything like that, again the answer: no, I'm alone. No friendly “I’m sorry, but it’s really not possible today,” then I would have taken it a little better. When paying for the 5 drinks, the gentleman insisted on paying in cash, which is really impossible these days! Ah yes, and best of all, a few tables away a gentleman was happily eating a coupe while talking to the seated service staff. We were the only guests with this gentleman, so it wasn't like he was in a rush and didn't have time for a simple dessert. Once and never again, it's been a long time since I've had such unfriendly service without a “service character”.

We stumbled upon this place and the truth is that we couldn't have gotten it better. Friendliness, quality food and excellent service. I totally recommend it.

Service is miserable. Apparently they are prepared for tourists who won't come back anyway: I ordered barley soup and discovered that it had bacon in it. As a vegan, of course I couldn't eat these. There was no mention of bacon on the menu. The boss said that it was clear to everyone in Switzerland (does that mean: apparently not to me...implicitly: I'm too stupid???). I ordered tomato soup of modest quality (from a bag?) for which I waited a long time (as a punishment?) In the end the boss charged for BOTH soups!!! In response to my protest and the threat of a bad review, the boss said she didn't care about bad reviews online. I was very angry. Stay away from this “restaurant”!

Very bad service and very expensive food. Children wanted ketchup with the schnitzel fries. Service had a hard time bringing ketchup, was stingy (always only 1 mini ketchup bag) and from 2 bags onwards they asked for additional money.

I've been waiting for 45 minutes for my salad at 7:44 p.m. simply unbelievable...

Large portions are not everything. Everything we consumed tasted like convenience, and it was rather mediocre. The wine selection and especially the open bar are poor. Service was very friendly. Toilet, disabled toilet on the upper floor can only be reached by stairs.

Due to low sales expectations we were sent away from our table. A pity!

Tourist demolition!!! Not recommendable. Canned goulash soup! Fries softly bathed in used oil. Hard pork schnitzel. Cheese no taste. So it was an unparalleled failure. Would give minus points. Unfriendly service.

We ate in the restaurant today. We enjoyed it very much. The plates were nicely prepared and the price-performance ratio was okay. We will be back.

Have been here twice now. The food is too expensive for what we consumed and the atmosphere is downright loveless. However, the service is bad in my opinion. As we were eating someone asked kindly if she could go to the toilet. This was vehemently rejected. I don't understand and I won't visit again!

Waiter is very bad, ruined our experience in the restaurant. We are arabs/ muslims he was extremely racist and would always pass by us with unpleasant looks/ faces.

We went to the Adler Restaurant for lunch today. The atmosphere was good and the service was courteous and attentive. The starter and dessert were delicious. Unfortunately, the main course did not in any way live up to the promises of the menu. The Rösti, advertised as a specialty, was soggy. The fish served with it was dry and hard. Both of us belched our food uncomfortably in the evening. The kitchen still has a lot of room for improvement.

We were there for dinner on Saturday May 7th, it was super good! Fish crispy potatoes with spinach! Friendly people, highly recommended!

The quality and taste were good, but the service was awful. We waited 45 min for the fish dishes. The waiter and waitress didn't consider their customers. The number of serving people limited to 3, so they could not do their tasks well. I won't recommend...

The pandemic does not seem to have arrived here yet. Drank 2 beers. When we wanted to pay by card, they said: Card payment is only possible if we eat something. That puts a bit of a damper on what was otherwise a nice visit.

Difficult to give an objective assessment. My wife has been there a few times and has always been very happy with the cuisine, so I wanted to experience it too. Nice little restaurant in the middle of the old town of Stein am Rhein right next to the town hall. Food was okay for me personally, but nothing more. The cordon bleu It was fried in the deep fryer, so it was too oily and too hard, a shame about the good meat, but everything else was good. Restaurant was very small so it was relatively noisy in the dining room. Personally, I was a bit disappointed. But Corona was definitely partly to blame for the whole feeling. As I said, my wife was always happy!

We ate a very tasty dinner. Gerstensuppe - a soup resembling Polish krupnik, Tomatensuppe - tomato soup and Adlerteller, a plate of cold meats and cheeses with tomatoes and cucumbers. Everything was very tasty, nicely presented. Nice atmosphere

I haven't eaten so badly in years. It hurts to see a restaurant sink like this. The staff is aware of the problem. Unfortunately, the boss stops any criticism in her shouting. Hopefully the eagle will take off again before it crashes to the ground.

We are at the restaurant right now: - when we arrived table was dirty and we had to ask the waiter to clean it - beer is flat, without any bubbles - Gulash soup is clear and faded tase - waiter didn’t allow to cancel the order for 3 more soups once we’ve told that it’s not good, saying that the other soups are being prepared ?!?! - waiting time 40’ and counting - only thing good so far is the bread

Worthless! If you order cheese fondue, you are banished to a chilly dining room upstairs. You are 'allowed' to sit there because they once had a strange experience with a group of Italians. Completely incomprehensible story that makes no sense and which apparently all new guests have to suffer. Don't go there, the cheese fondue is also mediocre and certainly not a "Swiss house specialty".

We received an unfriendly welcome from the boss and the waitress didn't give us a chance to look at the menu. Then she was asked to decide straight away because she didn't want to run three times. As we were studying the menu, the lady came back and wanted to “offer cheap but still good food”. Prejudices against Germans, no knowledge of human nature and completely wrong in customer service. Disgusting!!!

Good restaurant in a beautiful house in Stein am Rhein. Rösti and cordon bleu were very tasty and the service was super friendly and always in the mood to have fun.

Although the food was good quality-taste, the service was bad. We had been waiting for 40-45 MINUTES 2 plates of food (schnitzel). The waiter that was responsible for our table just ignored the questions never asked if we liked the food he just brought us the food, picked it up and just got paid. Not satisfied from the service. The food was good.

I didn't like today's visit at all. The lady from the service was very unfriendly and you had the feeling that you were not welcome. We actually wanted to eat something and would have waited, but then decided against it. My visit from Lucerne was also very disappointed.

I ordered something to take away from the Bolderhof shop next door. While the lady was preparing this, I was looking around for napkins. I saw napkins on a small table, which probably belonged to the Adler restaurant. I wanted to take one and an employee from the Adler restaurant came. An older German gentleman spoke to me without greetings and nothing: "What are you doing there?!" I explained to him that I wanted to take a napkin and then he started to give me a hard time, like, "This is a restaurant and we're not part of the farm shop, so I should take napkins from wherever I am consume, this is his impudence". He exposed me so badly in front of other customers that I don't have a good first impression of this restaurant at all. I think that everyone in the catering sector should be happy for EVERY customer, especially during this Corona time! It's a shame, because with this approach I will of course never set foot in this restaurant!

The wiener schnitzel was fried in a not-boiling oil or butter and as a result it was soggy, but surprisingly it still tasted good. The broccoli was also overcooked 🥦

Unfortunately the fish wasn't good, it was fried too dry. Service good, fries are also possible.

Between dishes you digest and you can take a nap. Curious because there were three tables. Everything for an omelet. The virgin!!!

The location couldn't be better. The food was great and the variety in the menu is outstanding. Definitely a place consider while visiting Stein am Rhein.

If you like having Knorr on your plate in a restaurant, this is the place for you! HACCP is a foreign term here! There is no fresh fish here, everything is frozen... all in all just a snack bar, but definitely not a restaurant!!! absolutely disgusting and the staff in the kitchen are not only being ripped off, they are being cheated out of wages, personal experience!!!! Stay away from fish and meat if you value your health! In general, don't be fooled, some restaurants should close forever and their operators should be somewhere else! I don't like hypocrisy!

Food was OK so far... However, the way the service staff treats the guests has relatively little to do with hospitality. The manner soon becomes arrogant. Well... there are certainly better things... it's actually a shame for Swiss gastronomy

Good location kitchen for a lunch anytime

In the Middle Ages, the house was owned by a Konrad Vels, so it was initially called Weißer Fels. In 1955 the interior was redesigned, the baroque paneling was removed and it was turned into the town hall. The façade next to it was painted in 1956 with themes of “Beautiful & Good”, including a saying from Goethe (my photo:) “Drink, oh eyes, as much as you can from the golden abundance of the world”. Today the house houses a good restaurant.

Located towards the end of the pedestrian zone, right in the center of town. That also has its price. The food is good, but the quality doesn't justify the price. The highly praised Rösti is also okay, but I wouldn't travel far for it. The facilities and staff lack some charm.

We had our team dinner at the Adler restaurant. At the same time, Christmas is still going on in the magnificently decorated old town of Stein am Rhein. In short, a lot going on. We had reserved for 7 people. Nevertheless, there was only one bratwurst left and after a certain time, we were informed that the second bratwurst we had ordered was also out. It's strange that the food runs out when it's knowingly busy and the guests have reserved. We were promised gluten-free dishes. When we asked, we were told that potatoes do not contain gluten (we already knew this). The ingredients for one dish were missing and the waitress tried her best, but she was clearly frustrated when communicating with us guests. Maybe it was also because the goods and cuisine were the worst that evening. The food itself was very tasty and, above all, really hot! The apple strudel for dessert was also great and the prices were really moderate. The restaurant is located in the heart of the old town, is stylishly furnished and has very clean toilet facilities. CONCLUSION: Good food at a good price! If all the good things can be transferred to the mood of the waitress and all the dishes are available, then we'll be happy to come back!

However, we ordered the Adler platelet for 19.50 CHF, but you get low-price breakfast salami around 9.90 per kilo in the purchase, cooked ham 12.00 CHF in one piece in the purchase and tongue in aspic, which doesn't cost a fortune with indefinable cheese. Carelessly carved tomatoes and a small cob of corn. As sorry as I am, I couldn't bring this to anyone's table. Simply an impudence

Went to the Adler restaurant with my girlfriend on Whit Monday. We ordered perch fillets for dinner. Well cooked and freshly prepared. Cheers to the kitchen! The waiters were very friendly and amusing. It should be so. We would like to come again!

I had lunch on Pentecost Sunday. The perch fillets were undercooked and when I complained, the boss of the house threw me in the towel and was very arrogant... My husband's Rösti was also greasy and not at all like a Rösti should be. Never eat in this restaurant again. Above all, the boss's bad mood was a real disgrace...
