Allmenalp in Kandersteg

An unmissable place in the immediate vicinity of Kandersteg. Allmenalp is a mountain pasture that could not be more typical of Switzerland. Choose to go up there however you want, by cable car, by the path or if you are equipped by the via ferrata. Once there, a terrace with an incredible view of the region awaits you. There's no room for a gourmet menu here and for good reason there's no electricity. Wood-fired soup, tasting of alpine cheeses and local sausages complete the tiny menu. Drinks are cooled at the fountain. Very friendly welcome

A real change of scenery in a typical mountain place!

Had a fruit tart with whipped cream and coffee, came to 9.50 Swiss franks, they don't take cards and I was out of local money, a complete strangers popped up out of nowhere and paid for me. A delightful experience.

Wonderful starting point for cycling or hiking in the Rhine Delta. Arriving early ensures a good parking space!

Rustic mountain restaurant at the top of the Allmend cable car. Great views but, other than walking back down along a scenic balcony route to Kandersteg, not much to do. Great homemade cakes and light meals. Cold beer at fair prices.

Brilliant, rustic alpine pasture at the end of a beautifully exposed via ferrata. Be sure to try the homemade cheese made in the traditional way. Only regional products. Great price-performance ratio. Definitely worth a visit for anyone in the Kandertal.

Beautiful view. And it's comparatively very quiet up here because most tourists drive up to Lake Öschinen on the other side of the valley. You can also see the lake from up here.

Nice and quiet location. The staff was nice. Bring cash as cards are not accepted. Beautiful view, a real farm atmosphere.

Nicely located restaurant/place. The Allmenalp cable car is quite small - when the paragliding pilots and many tourists make their way to the Allmenalp on the weekend, you often have to wait. Parking directly in front of the train, free of charge. The restaurant on the Allmenalp is unfortunately the absolute opposite of friendly and accommodating - a shame. Alternatively, you can go up via ferrata - you can also walk down via the hiking trail.

Super nice via ferrata but be careful: don't underestimate it. The psychologically most difficult part (for me) comes at the end: that's definitely K5!!
