Alp Scheidegg in Wald (ZH)

Unfortunately, as a hiker you are not welcome, but are directed to the kiosk, even in bad weather and around 5°, which was closed. There would have been free seats available in the dining room. As locals who visit several times a year, Alp Scheidegg has lost us as guests!

Thank you very much, also for the table as requested, we had a wonderful day on the Alp today. We were welcomed very friendly. We even had a short tour by the managing director of the newly renovated company 🤗🤗 The food was excellent, the kitchen puts a lot of effort into it and they only use regional products. The apero 🥂 first a very fine Prosecco. For the main course, wine, white (ask the boss, he drinks it himself), extremely fruity and fine on the finish... a successful day. Many thanks . We felt very comfortable...👍🤗

The view on the terrace is a dream, Unfortunately, no emphasis was placed on clearing the ice and snow... Unfortunately the staff was a little annoyed and inattentive. If you like to enjoy a good view, this is the place for you

What is strange is waiting at the door to get in when there is a free or reserved table, as well as waiting to pay when there are long queues. We were 4 people and have all took the highly praised “Scheidegg Schweins-Cordon-Bleu”. The plates made a good impression, but the French fries were lukewarm, the vegetables were unsalted and the cordon bleu was a roulade made from 2 slices of cold cuts of ham with lots of cheap racalette cheese. What a shame for this location!

Even though the opening times were shown on the website and the flag was up, we were not allowed into the restaurant after a three hour hike. The reason: room hour There was nothing about it on the website. Not recommended.

Very cozy and delicious place to dine. The view is over the entire Lake Zurich and therefore fantastic!!! The food is great, but the menu is rather small but very good and complete. Unfortunately, the service was a bit slow, but this was most likely due to the busy restaurant. This place is great as a hiking destination or just for dining.

We ate something small here on our hike today. My salad was beautifully prepared and fresh, my partner's vermicelles were also great. The waitress was very friendly.

Everything looks very inviting on the website, there is no indication that the large terrace is closed due to company holidays. There was space in the restaurant, but since everything was reserved...we had to leave. The hike and the area are still beautiful. A pity!

A beautiful place with a sensational view

Self-service at enormous prices, although not even a glass is provided with drinks. No greeting, no farewell, absolutely unfriendly. No active customer service at all, you are just left alone. It's a total shame that there isn't even a bread roll for breakfast.

Wonderful fondue and amazing views

The food is delicious. The view is beautiful. But the portions are quite small.

It's a shame the swing is no longer there. Apparently children aren't really welcome. Not a single piece of play equipment for the children outside. The ambience was aimed at the upscale clientele. Food rather expensive.

Super nice atmosphere, we actually wanted to have a dessert on the terrace, but everything was set up for dinner. We therefore decided to have a self-service coffee. It claims to be child-friendly, but there are no swings or anything else for children. Looks a lot like Schicki Micki. It's a shame, it was always a very hospitable house.

Food was ok. Very nice view and pleasant atmosphere. However, poor service. Rude and unprofessional. No decent greeting when entering the restaurant.

Actually a beautiful place. Opening times that are incorrect are published on the Internet. We hiked there for 2 hours, then in the afternoon in August we stood in front of a closed door (“room hours”). Very sad. Quality and reliability, that's what Switzerland once stood for. Those times are probably over. Very unfortunate. So on to Italy.

Spontaneous trip with friends for dinner. The waitress and boss were very friendly, good service, very good food, nicely presented food. Very flexible and uncomplicated when the weather changes and you change from outside to inside. Accommodating and helpful. Cozy and tastefully newly furnished. All highly recommended. Would love to come back.

I was looking forward to a very good breaded schnitzel! I got a puffy breaded dish with meat inside that was about 2 millimeters thick. But first I had to eat about 3 cm of breadcrumbs all around before some meat became visible. Never received such a lousy schnitzel. Thank you, never again.

You are only allowed access to the restaurant or the covered terrace to eat, even if the restaurant is completely deserted. For coffee and ice cream you are directed to the windy, unprotected terrace. 2-class society?

The food at Gasthaus Alp Scheidegg was simply fantastic. Every bite was a real treat. The dishes were prepared with great attention to detail and the quality of the ingredients was exceptional. The menu offered a great selection of regional specialties. I was particularly impressed by the fresh and authentic preparation of the dishes. It was a feast for the senses! The team at Gasthaus Alp Scheidegg also deserves the highest praise. The employees were extremely friendly, courteous and professional. They were always keen to ensure guests had an unforgettable stay. No matter whether it was about service at the table, recommendations for the dishes or general questions - the team was always approachable and tried to fulfill every wish. The warm atmosphere and excellent service made my visit very special. The view from Gasthaus Alp Scheidegg is simply breathtaking. Whether you sit inside the inn or dine on the terrace, you simply can't get enough of this picturesque setting. It is the perfect place to escape from everyday life and find peace in the middle of nature. In summary, I can only warmly recommend the Gasthaus Alp Scheidegg. Exceptionally beautiful view, great food (the Cordon Bleu is a sensation), attentive service - we felt very comfortable - and will be back!!

One of my favorite places with a beautiful view, delicious & homemade food as well as excellent service!

Any entrepreneur who has even a little business sense would not have a street that offers a great sledding path cleared of snow down to the asphalt. What's that supposed to mean?! You wear out both legs snowshoeing up the mountain and then have to sled back down on a dry road. It's not necessary to always drive your car everywhere and at all times of the year!

Things were still great in the Bachtel when the innkeeper was still on duty. initially in Schedegg too. Scheidegg is now so overcrowded that locals prefer to walk past or ride (mtb). We had various bad experiences (very long waiting times despite reservations and/or unfriendly), especially when visiting spontaneously. Various guests who came after us were shown to the table before us despite reservations. I also find the night lighting on the roof to be too bright. However, Mr. Brötzmann in service is always super friendly, which unfortunately cannot be said about the landlord. often seems stressed. It's also a shame that in Schescheidegg they rely primarily on motorized guests. It seems to me that Mr. Rastoder would prefer a motorway and a 100-space parking space on Scheidegg.

Beautifully decorated restaurant in “grandmother style”. Service is good, staff politeness could be better. We will definitely stop by again.

First impression: Alpine restaurant that aims to serve upscale cuisine. Unfortunately, nothing meets the expectations raised. Four people (2 couples) for dinner. Arrangement of the seats deserves exactly one star (2 tables pushed together, one person at the far end, the other two on one side). Cozy evening is different. The service was difficult and difficult. Dishes are very modest (is there really a cook there, or is it just regeneration?). In any case, I still had a piece of potato gratin that held its square shape well even when pierced with a fork. And the truffle cheese in the Cordon Bleu must have come from a tube. At least the pumpkin soup was warm. Wine list is very modest and manageable. Conclusion: Less is more. But please do it correctly.

Alp Scheidegg is a top-class local recreation area. In addition to the incredible foresight, this place offers many other amenities. The quality of the food is unbeatable. The team is incredibly (child) friendly. The prices are moderate. Also for a small family. You can feel that this company is run with a lot of love. We keep coming back. And very much so.

Alp Scheidegg mountain restaurant! At first glance, an inconspicuous mountain restaurant. However, with its tasteful rooms, its sunny terrace, attentive and friendly staff, and its fine delicacies, every guest, young and old alike, is enchanted. All inclusive is the breathtaking view of the beautiful surroundings and Lake Zurich, which adds to the absolute WOW effect. Highly recommended👍 We'd love to come back👏.

Great food, great service, great location. If you consider the effort that goes into it here (in summer as well as in winter), the prices are absolutely fair and more than correct. We love coming to this great restaurant (and relatively often) and have never been disappointed. The hosts do their job with passion, a lot of heart and soul and a great sense of humor. Your wishes are taken into account and you feel very comfortable as a guest.

We were there last year and had a fantastic time and great service. Beautiful view. So this year we decided to book a table again and enjoy our lunch on a busy Sunday. We arrived and waited a few minutes to be seated. Not too bad a wait even though two waiters were at the bar talking to each other and not paying any attention to us. But I assumed on a busy Sunday that makes sense. We were seated and then waited for a long time for our menus. About 10 minutes into the wait, another couple was seated on the table next to us. We finally received the menus and were soon ready to order. When one waiter passed us my husband told him that we were ready to order. He mouthed we had to wait a minute. Totally fine, its Sunday. He proceeded to take Photos for a large party and then returned to us but instead of taking our order he went to the table next to ours and took their order first, even though they had arrived much later than us. When my husband made him aware of that, he replied rudely " if you don't have 10 minutes to wait then you don't need to come up here on the mountain". We were stunned and silent after that. We ordered our food, but it didn't taste good anymore. I wrote an email to the owners of the restaurant letting them know what happened but haven't received a reply as of yet. The view is fantastic, the food is good. But the service makes it not worth the trip in the end. There are many more great restaurants with a view and way better service.

Well and friendly run, we ate very well in a pleasant atmosphere. I appreciate that the plates are not overfilled with fries and that there are supplements if necessary, a worthy contribution to combating food waste

The inn and the view are very beautiful. Unfortunately the staff is very unfriendly. Today we were rejected with a harsh NO by the lady who works on the terrace. This was when we asked if we could sit down.

Today we wanted to enjoy the legendary Cordon Bleu again after many years on Alp Scheidegg... Sentence with an X (that was probably nothing!) Checked opening time on homepage in the morning; Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. open, TipTop! We sat down on the terrace at 3:30 p.m. with hunger and anticipation... 5 minutes later we were succinctly informed by the waiter that the break was from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and therefore only one drink was possible... and later it would be full. ?!? Well, you can do business like that :-/ A little tip: note on the homepage the break time of 1.5 hours on Saturday afternoon, then we wouldn't have come from Thurgau for nothing. Update after response from owner: Now the correct times are also visible on your homepage, very good! Hope this helps the next visitors!

I was on a little trip today and didn't think anything bad... oops, what are the opening hours? Ok, that's one thing, but there's someone sitting outside and there's not even a simple drink if you ask. A pity

My husband and I live nearby and have been to Alp Scheidegg several times in the past during a motorbike trip or hike. Overall credo: beautiful location with an incredible panorama, but the behavior of one (male) service staff cannot be surpassed in terms of impudence and arrogance. Spontaneous visits to the inn without a reservation are not welcome, we were not properly greeted, the terrace is closed when the weather is nice because of a supposedly impending storm (in 2 hours). The restaurant is empty, but since we had not made a reservation because of a spontaneous idea, we were not welcomed at best “tolerated”. Hospitality is different, for us it was the last visit. Never again!

The food, ambience and service were outstanding. Price/performance absolutely consistent. It would be great to have a small notice in front of the restaurant and on the internet that hiking equipment such as backpacks and/or rain jackets should be left in the cloakroom. Thank you

We were here once in the spring and it was clear to us that we would come back. Everything was good then. Today there was probably a worm in there from A to Z. Drinks were taken correctly but the wrong thing was served. But what shocked us was the schnitzel. From the fryer with a very strong fishy taste/smell. Very unfortunate. My colleague and I were only served half a cordon bleu each. The reason was that something had gotten mixed up in the kitchen and the other two halves were being served later. This was simply decided without consulting us. The other two halves were then brought complete with another portion of fries and another portion of vegetables. Maybe I'm being small-minded, but a cordon bleu isn't served in halves. Shortly after eating, we quickly decided to go somewhere else so that we could enjoy dessert. Finally, the bill came in an envelope that was sticky on the back. After this second visit we will no longer make the journey up here.

Too classy for an alpine restaurant. It seems as if a two-class society is being promoted. As a walker walking up the Alp, you are not allowed to sit in the restaurant if the weather is uncertain, but rather on the covered terrace. A bit of a shame.

A wonderful destination. Once up there by bike and today on Whit Saturday on foot. I would have liked to eat something, but outside on the large terrace.... Self-service, coffee and cake for 2 people 22Fr and then prepared by a young person. Unfortunately no trace of food. No food is served on the terrace. You are only welcome here if you go to the restaurant. Sorry, in this case many people won't be coming anymore because some people were annoyed today.

Highly recommended because of the fantastic location and the very stylish furnishings. Through the winter garden you can enjoy the view whatever the weather. The food was good, but still has a lot of room for improvement. The staff was friendly, but a little overwhelmed with the many visitors on a wonderful weekend.

Thank you very much, it was very nice with you! What struck me as particularly positive was that the staff were extremely friendly and in a good mood despite the fact that the house was full. The only downside was the size of the menu. We had cordon bleu with fries and vegetables. When the menus were served, my wife and I were completely perplexed by the small amount of fries. The vegetables came separately, served very nicely and also very tasty, but only a mouthful. the meat was well prepared and also a good size. We immediately ordered a portion of fries which were then charged additionally. I would have been happy if this had been offered. To emphasize again, it is outstanding how great the staff is. That is the most important thing for me these days. It would have earned five stars if the portion wasn't so small. All the best and we will definitely come back.

We were guests at Alp Scheidegg for the second time within a year. And it was outstanding again. We took a seat on the beautiful terrace, which is surrounded by a glass front to protect us from the wind. And that worked perfectly because even though we had a strong, cool easterly wind, you could eat outside and enjoy the spring sunshine. And then of course the gigantic view of Lake Zurich, the Alps and parts of the Zurich Oberland. The restaurant is very rustic and extremely cozy. There is now an open second terrace with self-service from a restaurant kiosk for visitors who are in a bit of a hurry. On weekends and when the weather is nice, a reservation is recommended, otherwise it will quickly fill up, especially in the restaurant. We also tried the online reservation system. Worked perfectly. Thanks to the team for this uncomplicated system. The food is very tasty and also plentiful. We ordered the Famous Scheidegg Pork Cordon Bleu and the Gourmet Veal Cordon Bleu Truffle. Starter, a good bottle of red wine and dessert rounded off an excellent Easter Sunday stop at the Alp Scheidegg inn. Thanks to the entire friendly team at Alp Scheidegg. We will definitely come back soon. By the way, it's not just a hiker who can easily get to this highest inn in the canton of Zurich but can also be easily reached by car from Wald ZH. There are enough parking spaces available.
