Bin öfters in Kandersteg auf besuch. Seit längere Zeit habe ich das Restaurant Au Vieux Chalet nicht mehr besucht. Die neue Inhabern haben das Restaurant schön eingerichtet, die Bedienung war herzlich, gute Auswahl an Speisen und Getränke, komme gerne wieder !!!

Schönes Restaurant, aber schlechteste und unfreundlichste Bedienung seit langem.

Saß draußen in der Sonne, genoss einen ausgezeichneten Salat zu einem guten Preis mit gutem Service. Ich würde hier wieder essen, die Speisekarte hatte eine gute Auswahl.

Visited for dinner after a day of exploring and spa/sauna. Nice ambiance in a small restaurant with nice street-view seating. Staff immediately attentive, smiling, and friendly. Enjoyed a meal of very nice fondue (with an ample quantity of bread) and a hamburger with fried potatoes. I do wish I could rate this lovely restaurant better because the staff was just SO wonderful. Alas, while the fondue was quite nice, the burger meal - while presented well - was institutional in important aspects...the fries and the burger patty. Did I eat it, well of course, but it could be improved with higher quality potatoes and a fresh meat patty with a touch of seasoning - possibly a house sauce. Pros: - clearly the staff. She was great. - location - fondue - seating and street views- ambiance Cons: - institutional items of food, not hand prepared...at a hand prepared price- NO WiFi. Even McDonalds has free WiFi

This 26$ mushroom meal which was blant. A salad which was filled with vinegar and very small. Service is very slow as there is only 1 waiteress, who was a nice person but took us 15 minutes to get our menus and another 35 minutes for the food. Why the 2nd star? The place looks nice and the bread was alright.

Röschti (in kreativen Variationen wie z.B. mit Spinat und Ei oder mit Tomaten und Käse - aber halt traditionell mit Schweineschmalz zubereitet und daher für Vegetarier nicht geeignet), diverse Käseschnitten, Fondues und Fleischgerichte. Die Käseschnitte natur war lecker und der gemischte Salat i.O.; das Cordon bleu mit Pommes recht fettig, aber ok - leider war nur wenig Gemüse auf dem Teller, das schmeckte übrigens sehr gut. Zum Dessert bestellten wir Brönnti Creme - die war geschmacklich tiptop, aber ziemlich klumpig (doch immerhin hausgemacht). Die Portionen waren insgesamt recht üppig und die Preise moderat. Wir würden jedoch nicht noch einmal im Vieux Chalet essen und können seine schlechte Platzierung auf Tripadvisor nachvollziehen.

My wife and I dropped in for a bowl of soup which was delicious, homemade carrot soup. It was so good that we decided to book for supper on the same night. We were served by a very charming, smiling young lady called Dominique. Nothing was too much trouble for her. We arrived for supper and the whole experience got even better when we met the new owner called Margarite. Both were again very welcoming and the food was superb. My wife had Spaghetti Bolognaise and I had Rosti. All food is freshly made, unlike a lot of the Restaurants in Kandersteg. A good sign is the place was full of locals. It was immaculately clean. It was so good that we have booked for dinner again tonight. We have been coming to Kandersteg for 15 years and this is the best find yet. Excellent.

I found this place while walking through town, and took note (it’s very charming at first glance) to check the reviews on TA. Of course, I was horrified to see it in last place, so I put it out of mind. Several days later I was in need of lunch, and decided to give it a try (since many reviewers pointed out the change of ownership recently). I was pleasantly surprised. It seems to be mainly a local crowd (a good sign) and they had a solid selection of food, without being overwhelming. The veggie Rösti was tasty, followed by a slice of apple cake. An adequate beer and wine selection, and friendly service. Don’t be put off by the outdated poor reviews on this place. A solid choice in town.

Après 3 jours de marche nous nous sommes arrêtés afin de prendre le repas de midi.Nous avons pris une carafe d'eau du robinet. Nous pensions peut-être devoir payer quelque chose. Mais nous avons été très surprise par la note de CHF 7.00 pour un pot d'eau...Le repas était bon mais nous savons que nour ne reviendrons pas... Dommage car bien place...

Von Beginn weg war das Personal unfreundlich zu uns, kaum motiviert zu arbeiten und so empfanden wir als Gäste höchst unwillkommen und eine „Last“ zu sein. Das Essen wäre ok gewesen, aufgrund der Bedienung aber von einem Besuch fest abzuraten!

En discutant un peu on apprend qu'il y a eu un changement de propriétaires en début d'année (les notes avant 2018 ne sont donc pas adressées aux propriétaires actuels !). Nourriture bonne, familiale et généreuse. Très bons desserts MAISONS. Faut pas vous attendre à de la grande gastro (en même temps, pas sûr que vous soyez venus à Kandersteg pour ça ;)La déco intérieur est plutôt jolie,mélange de modern et d'ancien.

Wir bestellten ein zVieri-Plättli mit Fleisch und Käse. Serviert wurde uns liebelos ein Tellerchen mit zwei kleinen Scheiben Käse und wenig Fleisch. Und dies zum Preis von 28.00 Franken!!! Wucher!!!! Wir sind entsetzt!!

Aber: Wir warteten sehr lange auf die scheinbar selbst gemachten chicken nuggets (mein Sohn fand ein Stück Plastik unter der Panade). Die Cordon-Bleu wurden aus der Tiefkühltruhe frittiert, die Pommes waren "lätschig" und der Service seeeehr langsam. Auf Nachfragen konnte uns die Dame nur ungenügend antworten. Was ein Räubersteak sei, sei ein Geheimnis. Das Glace zum Kindermenü wurde uns gar nicht mehr angeboten. Nachdem wir beim Bezahlen gesagt haben, dass wir etwas enttäuscht waren, stellte uns der Service so hin, als ob wir selbst schuld seien "Hätten Sie halt früher was gesagt". Und dann....? Wäre das Fleisch uns doch noch frisch zubereitet worden?

An einer ruhigen Herbst sonnigen Tag entdeckten wir dieses kleines hübsches Restaurant in der Mitte von Kandersteg. Super alt verwittert Schweizer Haus von außen und einem Hauch von modernem Welt innen gemacht mit Eleganz. Wir bestellten typische Schweizer Gerichte: roestis und kaseschnitte, keine Enttäuschung, die Präsentation exzellent und das Essen! das Restaurant nur wärmstens empfehlen. Ich werde auf jeden Fall wiederkommen!
