Auberge du Grand-Lancy in Lancy

I had a quick lunch in this simple, bistrot-like eatery in Grand-Lancy. My main reason for choosing this place was it's proximity to my camera repair guru, bringing my dad's old Leica II from 1937 for service. The restaurant appears very popular with locals and people working in the neighborhood so it rapidly filled up between 12.30 and 13.00 when there was not a single table free. The plate of the day this Friday was filet of perch for very reasonable money which obviously attracted many of the customers. I had a rather small portion of calf kidneys, cooked to perfection and rapidly served by the busy and kind waiters. Wine by the glass from local wine makers were of good quality and reasonably priced, something you cannot say of the cost of most of the suggestions on the menu.

In a classic dining room, this restaurant serves well-prepared French food. I had the perch filets which were tasty.

However, we had reserved a table near the window which was confirmed but which was not respected, it was much too hot, we had to ask for cutlery for dessert which was not given to us automatically, we had to asking twice for the coffee ordered, we had to ask twice for the bill and the wait between the dishes and the bill... but the wait was long but long... It was borderline bearable in this heat. So yes the prices are expensive but at this price the service must be impeccable and fast and above all respect your word when you give it.

Very good starter, nice dessert, but main course not at the expected level. We all had one piece of meat out of three hard, the morel sauce didn't really taste like it (despite the huge morels) and the side dish was mediocre and in small quantity. And the price of the house aperitif... never again! And as unfortunately we had already had some small disappointments, I don't think I'll come back.
