Charming little quiet hotel with a lovely view of the mountains and a warm atmosphere. Beautiful restaurant with refined cuisine and very welcoming staff for the hotel as a whole. The bedding is excellent. The only slight downside is the steep slope of around a hundred meters long which separates the hotel from the station. But in the mountains going up and down is part of almost every trip! The ski area is worth a detour both for the view it offers of the spectacular peaks of the Oberland and for its numerous slopes.

I spent 5 days in Wengen and ate here twice. The food was creative and excellent. Nice wines by the glass, friendly service. The owner came by to say hello on each occasion. One of the problems in Switzerland is that almost all of the food is full of cheese or wheat, sometimes you need a break. Go here! And no it’s not cheap but it is reasonable for what it is, and even a burger in Switzerland will cost you $30! Highly recommended, go early in your stay, you’ll want to go back.

While the food did taste good my wife and I just split the “large” lamb entree, a bowl of soup, and one glass of wine. The total of which was around $60 and we both left hungry. I’d hate to see what the small $34 portion of the lamb plate would be. The large portion was literally 6 bites of lamb. The atmosphere was nice and service was good but we won’t be returning. Better bang for your buck elsewhere.

Let me first say we guests at the hotel. I reserved a table for our arrival dinner because I knew we would be tired after a long plane ride then train ride. Tonight we selected Restaurant Baren for our dinner and we were extremely pleased. The wait staff was super pleasant and answered all if questions.since we are both vegetarians they suggested a salad, a spatzel with vegetables and chestnuts and a mushroom sauce, and a special curry falafel dish which we loved. We shared all of our selections and added a glass of white Swiss wine for each of us. We thought that our meal, the ambiance and the staff was one the best that we had experienced in Switzerland and may return for a second go around tomorrow evening.

The Bären has a service team. I say that because unlike many restaurants you will receive attention from every one working the room, not just the section in which you are seated. That means the team works to make your experience excellent! The food: sourced locally and an excellent wild menu! This IS the place to eat! The dining room has an expansive view of the Lauterbrunnen valley and it’s dramatic end at the foot of the iconic Jung Frau. Remember to reserve your place for a meal you won’t soon forget!!

We went twice during our vacation in Wengen last fall. Let me just say, I probably would've been content going every night of our vacation. Hands down one of the best places I've ever eaten -- we loved the local game on the menu (chamois, boar, deer). Every meal we had was perfect, and the wine (humane rouge) we tried was amazing as well.

I fail to see how this restaurant is rated #1 out of 33. The food was ordinary and the service — other than that from the owner — was indifferent. We had dinner two nights before at Caprice where both the food and the service were excellent and well worth the slightly higher price.

Walked over from our hotel, Arena/Hotel Victoria Lauberhorn located across from the train station. A five or six minute walk. Walked in at 7:30 pm and were seated promptly. Very pleasant dining room with good views. Menus provided and drink orders taken. Our group of five ordered four beers and one wine. For main dishes we had three fish, one pork and one falafel. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their dinners. All thought they were excellent! Excellent atmosphere, excellent service and delicious food. An outstanding experience. I highly recommend!

I had arranged reservations, via email, in advance of our arrival in Wengen to celebrate my husband's birthday. When we arrived, we were shown to a table that was surprisingly decorated for his birthday! There was subtle birthday confetti on the table and a "Happy Birthday" sign written on our table's candle lamp which were such thoughtful touches. We enjoyed a bottle of red Swiss wine (a pinot noir and malbec blend that was delicious!) and the gourmet tasting menu. Every course was outstanding and the service was friendly throughout our two-hour meal. We would highly recommend this restaurant if you are looking for a nice meal. It's also a great place to celebrate a special occasion!

It was such a nice evening we were able to enjoy eating on the terrace. The meal was good, and the setting was wonderful. Pricey, but good. Favorites were the soups and the lamb. They also have a tasting menu option.

We recently spent a week in Wengen. We chose the Restaurant Baren for our final night dinner and we were not disappointed It was only a few minues from our chalet. Everything was wonderful! We ate inside, but they also had a beautiful terrace with a view. The staff were amazingly helpful. One of our group has severe celiac disease and they went out of their way to assure that her meal was gluten free. I had lamb and it was delicious. Another one of us had the Summer (multicourse) Menu and we enjoyed sampling his delicacies. The owners use as much locally sourced produce as possible and grow their own herbs. The desserts were lovely too. We will definitely be back.

De risotto erbij was lekker maar de portie was erg klein. De opmaak had iets klungeligs met veel kruim en bloemetjes. De pulled beef burger (van meer dan 30chfr) was lekker en het ijs na ook. The food and service was top notch. Two of us had the braised Wengen beef, one ordered duck and one ordered tagliatelle. It was all wonderful. Highly recommend. Consider reservations as they are very busy.

I celebrated my 50th birthday here with 15 friends and family members, ages 2-55. It was absolutely perfect. The food was delicious, and the service welcoming, accommodating and everything you’d hope for. It will be an evening to remember for a long time, or at least as long as my memory serves me. Definitely an outstanding choice in Wengen.

This was the friendliest place we have been to.Very high quality food (be it small portions, I definitely recommend getting an appetizer) with a lot of thought put into it. I believe the owners make the menu from scratch throughout the season with ingredients from their garden. It's very clear they care about their food. I don't know what it was I had for lunch (some sort of salads) but it was one of the most balanced flavours I've ever had, very good.Not ideal for lunch (set menu) but fantastic for dinner. Try the toblerone mousse, it was awesome!I'd give it 5 stars, had it not been for a fairly big mixup in our order for our lunch (though they were helpful in fixing it), and the fact that it doesn't have a view. Can't fault the food whatsover, though!

One of our favorite places to stay. We had a family room with a balcony where we could view the valley and mountains around it. The location in Wengen was perfect being close to the train station and the lift up to Mannchillin. Breakfast had a great variety which was big enough that we skipped lunch everyday. We loved the restaurant there - we ended up eating there every night and enjoyed everything. The staff was really helpful with suggestions and little treats for our kids. Our kids also loved the playground outside and playing ping pong downstairs. It's a really amazing place I can't recommend high enough!

Service was a little lacking as never checked in on us after being served and slow to get the check, but I can live with that. Was overpriced IMO compared to other spots in Wengen we visited. Every dish was excellent, with the Brienz-sourced crispy fish being a quiet show-stopper. We ended the evenings on a fun note, having a dessert of Bärenkugel, a pear sorbet floated in pear brandy, and Ingwerer, a locally made ginger liqueur. All in all, Bären was the nicest dining experience we had during our stay in Switzerland. Bären was neither the cheapest nor most expensive restaurant we dined at while in Zürich or Wengen, but it was clearly the best of the bunch.Highly recommended.

We found ourselves wandering around and I remember reading good reviews for Restaurant Baren. So we were able to have dinner without a reservation which was nice. The food is good as is the quality. I'd put this up there as a nice option for dinner.

We enjoyed this restaurant so much, we ate here four times during our 4-day visit to Wengen. Twice for breakfast and twice for dinner. The owners and staff are so lovely, warm and accommodating, and the food is outstanding! The patio overlooks the hotel’s beautiful garden. My husband and I were enjoying a beer there one night before dinner, and the chef came out to the garden to pick fresh vegetables for dinner! When additional family members arrived later in the week, their young children enjoyed the children’s menu, play room and close proximity to a playground area right next to the hotel. Really relaxing evening with good food and fun for the whole group, all ages. I would definitely look into staying at this hotel on a future visit.

We had a reasonable dinner here but on the whole felt that the standard did not reflect the pricing.The fish dish that was one of the days specials was not really up to the job. The fish was a bit tasteless and difficult to debone, the flavour being made up for by the sauce. My steak escalopes were nicely cooked and in a nice sauce.Desserts were good though!I suggest you avoid selecting the smaller portion option as I felt this was too small, stick to the normal size.Service was excellent and friendly.

We stayed at Baeran hotel for 2 nights, 19-21 June 2019. The rooms were clean and neat and provided us with everything we require. The hotel takes pride in its food and the owners are marvelous- friendly , helpful and advises you on the meals available and assists with planning of your trip if need be. The deserts are lovely and presentations are amazing! Breakfast is lovely and they have different options to choose from. From home made cakes and breads to different types of egg preparations, food for vegetarians included yoghurt, lentils, chickpeas , cereals and cheese. We wanted to say Goodbye to the owner but she was not available so I would like to thank you personally on this platform for assisting us with every need. Hope to See you soon.
