Christen Beck in Altdorf (UR)

Extremely unfriendly staff. As a Ticino resident, I was stunned by the xenophobia towards us as cantonal neighbors. Unfortunately the only option to enjoy a coffee at the train station. The waitress completely missed your career choice. When we walked in without saying anything at all we were simply ignored for 2 minutes while both conditions talked to each other instead of at least greeting each other. Our friendly greeting only made the staff even more annoyed, and it took 10 minutes for us to get our two espressos. The other guests who were present apologized humorously for the unfriendly service and we were assured that it was normal for at least one server. It's a shame because the coffee is very nice. From now on I prefer to wait until I get to Rapperswil to have my coffee in the morning.

I was in this Beck for the fourth time today and there is no alternative because it is the only Beck at the train station. Either the waitress has failed in her job or she is generally unfriendly towards foreign guests. Anyone who works in service should be customer and guest oriented. And in my opinion, certainly not working at the train station.

Unfortunately we had a very bad experience in the said restaurant/café today. The waitress "Annemarie" was extremely rude and seemed very stressed and annoyed, despite the quiet situation in the café. She was therefore unfriendly towards us. We hope that something will change as the food and drinks were very good overall.

Very nicely decorated, friendly service and delicious pastries. Almond croissants are recommended.

Great service and simply delicious. We're happy to get coffee here and our croissants for the train afterwards.

After the Haugers have bought up almost all the bakeries in the canton and you can get the same (very good) thing everywhere, excellent competition comes from the neighboring canton and grabs the prestige shop in the new, huge by Uri standards, train station. It's kind of a shame that Uri couldn't manage to bring his own Beck to the train station, but then again, Christian Beck has been one of our absolute favorite bakeries alongside Schillig and Hauger for years - luckily it's the top Christian from the neighboring canton and not one of the two overpriced Lucerne residents who are already flooding half of German-speaking Switzerland... Bakeries and pastry shops should be something that creates local identity and not just all sorts of goods. The shop in the train station is extremely spacious and still has room for growth. When the new apartments that are under construction opposite are finished, many more customers will come and go here. And on Catholic holidays, when all the Haugers, including Danioth, close down and not even an answering machine calls attention to it, the Christian in the train station is the salvation. Ultimately, whether the Zigerkrapfen from Christen or Danioth is the best is a question of faith and taste. Personally, I love them all... but ultimately prefer the one from Schillig in Bürglen.
