Eichmuhle in Hettlingen

Reception, too lukewarm, you have to ask for a drink, service, doesn't have enough knowledge, there's a lot of fine things on the menu, from Swiss cuisine, but the chef doesn't have the training, I went to try it twice, I can't recommend it. Your decision, price performance = minus

I didn't know that there were so many mills in the area around the city of Winterthur. A historic place with chic old buildings. This is how you imagine a mill, somewhat remote from the village, idyllically located by a stream surrounded by gentle hills. In the dining room you can see the many old parts, be it the paneling, the murals or the handle set. What has happened here in the past few years? Equipped with large tables, you can quickly start talking to other guests. The cuisine is traditionally Swiss. Carefully prepared, beautifully presented and served attentively. I drove home completely satisfied.

A very rustic restaurant. Great old furniture. There is a simple but good selection of dishes. The portions are good. A bit carelessly done. We had hash browns that were very fatty. The service was not very convincing. The career choice would have to be reconsidered.

Super nice restaurant, in the old style. Especially Gordonbleu in different variations. Big dessert coups. It's a shame that the unique water wheel isn't turning yet.

Where should I start? There was no reception, but when you call hello someone comes out of the kitchen completely unmotivated. Starter was fantastic. The waitress cleared my plate while my partner was still eating, which shouldn't be the case. The main course Cordon Bleu was brought with the words: “Don’t know which is which, you’ll have to see for yourself”. Unfortunately, we didn't find out the difference between fondue and garlic cordon bleu until the end. At the end the service lady asked if we had found it. Our ``no, to be honest, not, they both taste like something different'' was only followed by a ``yesss'' with turning over and clearing away. It's a shame what happened to this valued restaurant. No thank you.

With a new tenant since October 1st, 2022. The location has been convincing for years. Quiet away from the hustle and bustle, plenty of parking nearby and a nice garden to play in. Now the food was very convincing, salad was fresher than anywhere else, meat was tender and pommed nicely cross. Come back! ...and after dinner there's a great hiking area or Schwümbi.

A beautiful time-honored restaurant with a beautiful garden.

Unfortunately, Cordon Bleus were quite small, not closed well (cheese leaked out) and were not fried well (breading not crispy). In one of our two orders the wrong cordon bleu was brought. Unfortunately, the service wasn't good either (sneezes into your hand and then touches the plate, closed, speaks quietly).

The “tradition” with a large selection of good cordon bleu is also being continued by the new operators of the Eichmühle. My Zurich Geschnetzeltes was also excellent and the large portion was more than filling. All at fair prices. The cozy garden restaurant right by the stream invites you to linger longer, especially in summer.

We used to be regular guests at the rustic Eichmühle and after many years, the change of host and the sometimes negative comments, we decided to stop by again. The first sight at the parking lot didn't bode well for us. A broken large camping car that blocks half the parking lot, dirt everywhere and a pile of rubble behind the 18th century wash house. We thought, oh, should we eat here, clean up or continue driving🤔. First impressions count, but we stayed because we were hungry. The atmosphere at the restaurant is, as before, cozy and rural. The garden with the pond and the trees is very cozy and cozy. The service and the boss were very nice and very attentive that evening. We know the problem with the lack of staff and the closures! We ordered the house specialty, Cordon Bleu (various variations), fries, salad al olio (peppy). Plus a fine cool rosé and a beer. The cordon bleu was juicy, the cheese melted, the fries were just right crispy and not too salty. The salad with the shrimps and the spicy sauce was tip top. Tastes are different and criticism is very quick. That means we had a great time on this cozy, cozy summer evening. We ate well and didn't regret staying. Well-fed and happy, we drove back home and decided to come back.

Unfortunately I have to edit my review, the restaurant is just bad, I ordered Piccata Milanese, a plate came with ketchup on it and the schnitzels, in any case they weren't coated with piccata, instead of spaghetti, only pasta with a lot of cheese on top?? My wife's Cordon Bleu Thurgauer style, supposedly with apple pieces, only had apple sauce in it?? We didn't finish it all because my wife's fries were too salty. When she cleared the table, she simply poured the leftovers into the adjacent pond and fed them to the fish. It's unbelievable what's going on there.

We haven't eaten so badly in years. Everything the cheapest of the cheapest. I haven't seen a no-name ketchup in a 1.5 liter bottle for ages🙈 The food was also made very cheaply. I don't even want to know how old the oil/butter was that my breaded schnitzel was fried in! Also brought the wrong food. The location is so beautiful! Too bad about the rest.

Nicely located excursion restaurant and pleasant outdoor ambience right by the stream. The Cesar salad was fresh, cleverly prepared and very tasty. The fish crispies were also good, with a fine sauce and fresh seasonal butter vegetables. Warm food throughout, we ate at 5 p.m. All in all great👍

Beautiful restaurant and cozy, food was good

Ambience ok. Service staff at a family celebration seemed overwhelmed to me. Röschti with a fine crust but unfortunately salted unevenly and the portion calculated a little too generously. Panacotta, the fruit had too strong a taste of its own. If there is a dessert for (small) children, you should ask. (Ice cream with M&M??? Peanut allergy OR risk of choking). All in all, satisfied, so 4 out of 5 stars.

Food was top notch, had a chicken cream schnitzel with spaetzle. Hearty service and a very pleasant atmosphere in the restaurant. Can only recommend it to anyone who wants to enjoy an excellent meal.

Pretty bad really. Very expensive for the quality they advertise (they no longer do what they advertise). Very bad service. The food acceptable. Before, other owners who retired had it and it was much better. I hope they try to improve because otherwise this service will go down the drain…. Very disappointed with the restaurant. Don't trust the photos and the old reviews that have changed owners!!!! Don't get scammed!

Unfortunately, the Eichmühle will close its doors on May 31, 2022. 😢

Unfortunately it's just a shadow of its former self from the 80s. Completely demotivated staff due to the impending closure. Food was very mediocre at best. It would be such a nice restaurant.

The reservation was received on the phone in a friendly manner and the greeting from the kitchen was excellent. Unfortunately, the service was extremely rude - rolling eyes, deep sighs because I had the nerve to order another bottle of water... people like that shouldn't be working in service, they ruin the good work of the kitchen.

Nice personel. One employee was new to the service and was already doing quite well. Since there were a lot of guests there for lunch on Sunday, the head of service asked us to be patient. The fondue came quicker than expected and was super delicious. The pear pieces were cut a little too small for us, but very tasty. Price is absolutely great for the quantity. Enough parking spaces available.

Good kitchen, bad service, kitchen help complains about service staff in front of the guests. Absolutely intolerable. We are outraged and will no longer visit this restaurant.

Quiet location and good price-performance ratio

Despite the good food, we cannot recommend this restaurant. The greeting failed to materialize. When asked if we could eat here, it said that they still had reservations. If we order very quickly. A good greeting from the kitchen was brought to us and the food that came after a while was also good. Many people never existed and the atmosphere in the team was quite dry and disinterested. Only the very young lady seemed friendly and competent. Too bad, because you could really make more out of this restaurant with this kitchen.

Food was good, but Gordon Bleus wasn't too big. Reservations and service were a bit brisk at times. In my opinion, a dog in the kitchen is not acceptable in a restaurant. Actually a little paradise, maybe we just had a bad day.

The atmosphere is like in a 'Spunten'. Likewise the service, friendly, simple, but not upscale. The food, however (and accordingly the prices) is of a high standard. Huge selection, beautifully prepared, very good menus.

The Godonbleu was one of the best I've ever had. Available in various imaginative versions... but I only had the standard Schweinsgordonbleu large. Where big wasn't overly big. Were here on New Year's Eve. My wife had a Cordon Bleu, I tried the Metzgete. It was a big mistake on my part. I can't recommend the butcher shop. I'm so sorry. We saw the huge selection of cordon bleu, spaetzli and spaghetti too late. With such a huge selection, one wonders whether the food is cooked with love.

We were there for the first time today. The reception wasn't exactly nice. She said we were in the Stübli. I was disappointed. The website does not correspond to what you would expect on site. If I'm going out, I expect a white tablecloth. The service itself was nice. The vegetables were from the freezer. The side dishes were served on a cold bowl. The dessert was the crowning glory, on a black plastic plate. Beautiful and good is different. Eating there again, no thanks.

This causes feces to fall into the food. The floor of the aviary (not only) is littered with food and droppings, which is not exactly conducive to the health of the birds. When it comes to animals, cleanliness is the top priority, especially when 2 fat, cute miniature pigs roll through the enclosure. We were there for the Cordon Bleu selection. There are 50 pieces to choose from on the menu, each with 4 meat variants. But there are also many other dishes. Each adult chose a different Cordon Bleu creation. All were very good. The fries for the children were also good. The younger of the two service employees was very friendly and gave competent information about the food. The other service person may not have had the best day. The Eichmühli is a cozy restaurant with a huge selection of dishes and fair prices. We were 2 families and luckily we had reserved. We will definitely go to the Eichmühli again. Recommended! 👍🏼

Very nice restaurant with an old farmhouse and the highlight outside is an overshot mill wheel, very nice, ideal for family trips, good, hearty food with a petting zoo. Unfortunately, I don't have a photo at the moment, but Googling shouldn't be a problem.

Great restaurant. We have eaten at the Eichmühle several times. Whether as a large group or just two people. Have NEVER been disappointed. The Cordon Bleus are unique and there is something for every taste. Rösti and Spätzli variations are awesome. There is also enough choice for vegetarians. The service was very friendly and accommodating. I can recommend the restaurant to anyone who wants a varied menu and wants to experience something with the children on the adventure farm. Keep it up!!

Convenience?!? The menu is way too big. The vegetables all taste the same and yet taste like nothing. I wouldn't be surprised if you were cooking from the freezer. Otherwise, such a large map is almost impossible. The expense of expiring products alone would go beyond the budget. Very salty and glutinous in general. Not too much love and basic knowledge available. It's a shame that the fondue is from Gerber instead of a cheese dairy in the region. Service unfriendly and extremely demanding, could have been more accommodating, for the price I expect a certain basic conformity, it's a shame that you have to refill yourself. The aquariums are great, but very inappropriate for the ambience of such a great location. A pity. My impression is that the employees are overwhelmed and in this case less would definitely be more!!!
