Excellent food and very attentive hospitality

Last Saturday we went on a hike from Illnau to Kyburg with a family friend and had lunch at the First restaurant. At first we thought it might be “too chic” with the kids and in hiking gear. But that was unfounded. We were even able to sit in the white-covered part of the restaurant. The hosts are super friendly, uncomplicated and also picked up the children really well. We were very satisfied and can only recommend this restaurant. The food was very good and as already mentioned, the whole team was courteous and friendly. Thank you again for the wonderful time with you!

The food is locally oriented and excellent and the boss plus mother and the waitress are super nice. In summer there is a friendly mix of people just passing by, well-off guests and riders. With a stark view of the Alps.

You are in a rural area and feel very relaxed. A former farmhouse with a very beautiful and special dining room. It's worth eating there once. Well sorted wine list. Food top.

Unique view of nature. A fox visits the garden. Great service, saddle of venison (and all dishes) perfect, delicious local wine. Take a large wallet with you - but there is also something on offer for it! The chef knows his art!

Very idyllic renovated and top modern equipped. Also with technical devices for presentations. The food is high quality, beautifully presented and also very tasty. The staff is well trained and therefore attentive and friendly. I can highly recommend the place. Easily accessible by car, but also by bike or on foot.

Chief Hermes An incredibly wonderful experience with Chef Hermes! We treated ourselves to a glass of champagne on the terrace and then enjoyed a wonderful game menu, accompanied by a wine that Chef Hermes, head of the house, recommended. Gladly again!

Creative and amazing good, imaginative presentation. Best is to book a 4 course menu and become surprised, you will not regret it. Very unique atmosphere in the middle of nowhere, between two farmers and with a great view into the alps.

Very nice restaurant and good food. We've been there twice now after the walk from Kyburg and sat outside because the weather was nice. We just wanted to grab something small or drink an ice cream and the service made us feel like we weren't welcome.

After waiting for 15 minutes we left again, the only employee didn't want to see us despite waving and therefore didn't want to serve us. There are 3 or 4 tables occupied. The garden would be beautiful...

The beautiful location - friendly, competent and prompt service - tasty food. All in all a success, we felt very comfortable and will definitely come back!

We were here for the first time and had a wonderful evening. Because of the nice, warm weather we were able to sit outside. The food is excellent. We were given a very friendly welcome by the host couple, I can't understand some of the comments here about being unfriendly etc. Sometimes I have the feeling that people consciously want to harm others, I can't explain it any other way. And anyone who finds fault with the food can no longer be helped... Price-performance is good. You get really finely prepared dishes of high quality, everything lovingly and elaborately prepared. In my opinion the prices are reasonable. We would love to come back and look forward to the next time! :)

We were able to celebrate our wedding at First and it was simply perfect. Micha's uncomplicated and open nature gave us a lot of freedom. The service, the cuisine and the location are unbeatable for us and I would love to come back. Many many thanks!

Fine dining with very friendly staff. Totally warm and accommodating! Very competent when it comes to intolerances and allergies. This meant I could eat very tasty gluten-free food with my celiac disease. Absolute recommendation! P.S. The lavender ice cream is heavenly!

We're full of expectations on Mother's Day 🌲 Our expectations were more than exceeded 👍 The menu offers a great selection of dishes with sophistication. We tested our way across the menu and were more than positively surprised with every dish. The service was also brilliant and the ambience with the lovingly furnished Säntis Stube was more than convincing! If you had to complain about something, it would be the rainy weather in mid-May with rain and 18 degrees. I can only recommend the First. Certainly not our last visit!

What an amazing hidden gem. The decor, food and service are outstanding. The room with the high windows looks into empty fields and feels so cosy. We loved it and we’ll be back again.

We love this restaurant! The food is excellent and the service is perfect and courteous. You can also enjoy a fantastic view of the Alps. The restaurant also invites you to linger outside with a terrace and a beer garden. Hikers and cyclists are also warmly welcomed by the new hosts. An all-round great and warm location and an absolute recommendation!

We arrived at First hungry on our bike tour today. We had heard about the change in landlords and wanted to approach the new landlord with trust. We were richly rewarded for this: excellent food of outstanding quality, extremely friendly service, even though a banquet already had to be served and of course an incredible view of the Alps from the First. Definitely go under this new leadership!

New situation in First our visit, March 24, 2023. The succession to the previous managing director was very demanding. The expectations were met and it won't be the last time we'll be here. Such a transition is a wish and has been confirmed in this case. Very good food, first-class and sensitive service at adjusted prices. It's definitely worth testing for yourself!

Breathtaking views, warm service, innovative cuisine. Wine accompaniment to the surprise menu is a MUST (Location also easily accessible by Uber).

How could we ignore this pearl on the hill to Kyburg until now! A great restaurant with a sunny terrace and wonderful views of the Alps. We enjoyed a fine cheese plate with fresh bread 🍞.

The First restaurant near Kyburg is a real culinary delight. The seasonal cuisine offers delicious dishes and good portions. The wine list has regional specialties as well as international classics. The view of Lake Pfäffikersee and the mountains in the background is unique. Be sure to stop by on a beautiful sunny autumn day. The restaurant has enough parking spaces.

Restaurant First is definitely one of our favorite restaurants in the area. Very fine food, friendly service and great ambience. We always enjoy coming back, even with friends and family. And of course the great garden beckons in summer!

After a rather curt greeting, we were able to enjoy our food and the view of Lake Pfäffikersee in a nice shady spot. Unfortunately, the service wasn't very friendly, and that was the case with the entire staff throughout the evening. However, even though we had consumed it extensively, we found the price to be absolutely exorbitant: 1 liter for 8.00. Absolutely outrageous...we have never experienced anything like this. When we asked how much normal water cost, we got the curt answer: 9.-! No comment...we were there for the last time...

The best place in all of Switzerland, great service and spectacular food, I highly recommend it for dinner with family or couples, the place is a little far away but it is worth it if you want to live a unique experience, I would return a thousand times, I loved everything, thank you so much to the entire first team 😁

Although the location is very nice, I cannot recommend the restaurant. The food isn't bad but the service leaves a lot to be desired. On the one hand, we poured ourselves more wine (not OK for the price), and on the other hand, we were told that the whole group had to take the course menu because of the waiting times (after negotiations, a compromise was made by the service). The crowning highlight: we celebrated a birthday with a larger group, consumed very well and the boss didn't feel it was necessary to offer us coffee/grappa at the end. The last time for me!

A good friend's birthday: luckily we had excellent weather and were able to enjoy the restaurant outside. Service was top, food was excellent, there was still enough parking space (you have to improvise a little if there are a lot of visitors - but it works). Small but nice. We won't be there for the last time :) Five stars!

The location is a bit far from anything so be mindful when ordering drinks. The food is delicious and the menu is very diverse

Unfriendly service. Arrogant boss. Simply unfriendly. Food would be ok. Small selection and value for money is simply not right. Unfortunately I was invited. I would never go to this restaurant voluntarily. Wasn't there the first time. The boss was always very unfriendly. She shouldn't work in the restaurant industry. I absolutely cannot recommend this restaurant. Unfortunately. I can confirm all the deep recessions. We were even interested in celebrating our wedding there 5 years ago, but the unfriendly boss, who was absolutely unable to advise us, made us cancel the Saentis Hall, which had already been provisionally reserved. Thank God. We then had a wonderful evening with friendly service in Loewen Naenikon

It is the kind of restaurant that everybody should go one day. The perfect combination of delicious food and beautiful environment. The price is fair enough for all that you get there. Not only I indicate it: I am eager to go back again.

We celebrated a family celebration in First. The Suprise menu was a surprising culinary delight for all of us from course to course. The friendly service and the spacious room contributed a lot to the general well-being.

Always happy to go to Restaurant First. The staff and the fine food are worth the trip. The hostess is attentive and accommodating. The romantic garden is very cozy and inviting. It is always an experience for us to be pampered with culinary delicacies. A great compliment from the brigade.

You have to be there. Kitchen, service, wine list at its best. I'll definitely go again, the journey is always worth it.

We've eaten there several times now; the food was great! One can argue about the price-performance ratio; we think it's excessive! But I don't want to evaluate this here. What I want to rate is the service. Unfortunately, the hosts definitely don't deserve more than 1 star. It's probably a combination of arrogance, impudence and incompetence. This also rubs off on the staff; Although we found it to be more trying than the hosts, we simply have higher expectations at such prices. PS: Three years ago we arranged a rehearsal dinner for our wedding. The hosts hardly had any time for us and we are still waiting for the promised offer!
