The best hotel in Glarus. Very friendly hotel management, very friendly staff. Good food and nice terrace restaurant. Large, simple and clean rooms. Nicely located between the park and the train station.

Glarus is a small town with friendly people, it seems to me. Almost everything you need is within walking distance. Trains run every half hour in both directions. If you like mountains, this is a nice place to spend a few days hiking, skiing or just spending some time.

Unfortunately we were disappointed with the food.

I didn't expect to find a hotel so centrally with such good conditions. From booking to check-out, everything went smoothly; the employees were always friendly, helpful and competent during telephone and direct contact. The breakfast, which was included, also impressed us.

Very fine Chateaubriand and very nice hosts. Would love to come back.

The food was good except for the vegetables, but that's a matter of taste. I just don't like half-raw, bland vegetables, there's definitely room for improvement.

I've only been there twice - once for a beer with colleagues from the men's choir and once around lunchtime at 11:00 for a Prosecco. The location is central, right opposite the SBB Glarus train station. The dining room is cozy. I can't judge the food, but I saw in the menu that it meets higher standards and is rather expensive (for my budget). There is classic French cuisine, such as Chateaubriand, or steaks... from the hot stone with side dishes for 35 to 50 francs per menu. The fondue chinoise is quite inexpensive at 31.50 per person. You can also eat vegetarian for 15 to 20 or order a chicken cordon bleu for 25... The service was very friendly, but not particularly attentive and not particularly fast - therefore only 4 out of 5 stars - (also because the restaurant closes at 10:30 p.m.)... (?) why? You can stay at the Glarnerhof for 140 francs per night. I heard that the hotel rooms (32 rooms with 51 beds) were furnished in an “old-fashioned” manner. However, government delegations from other cantons and even federal councilors have repeatedly been invited by the Glarus authorities to this traditional and "posh" house in a prime location in Glarus... Recently (just a few weeks ago) the owner of this hotel and restaurant changed; a traditional Kunz family from Graubünden, experienced in the catering and hotel industry, is now responsible for the business. I had the pleasure of visiting Glarnerhof Restaurant today and I have to say I am impressed. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. The staff was very friendly and attentive and made us feel welcome. I really appreciate that an experienced family like the new owners has taken over the Glarnerhof and is continuing to run it so successfully. It's nice to see a traditional restaurant in good hands and run with so much attention to detail. I will definitely recommend the Glarnerhof restaurant and look forward to coming back soon.
