Gran Café Motta, menu in Zürich

Coffee was ok, service is very friendly but very slow (but there were a lot of guests). The best part was the relaxed atmosphere. Nice to sit outside on the terrace on a sunny day.

Just sat down with our small family (1 and 3 yr old) we moved a chair so we could sit near our children. The waiter said it wasnt allowed and was extremly rude, and expected us to not sit near our daughter. This place is not for families do not go here. He also spouted something about this is switzerland not 'your' country, we live here and are Swiss. Ar$ehole

Cute coffee shop with lots of choices of lovely 6. I ended up speak French tea. Very good for digestion!!!

I can totally confirm the other opinions shared in the reviews regarding racism and worst service I’ve ever seen. Once we sat, the table was barely cleaned and it really felt like the waitress was just annoyed by our presence - don’t even dare to ask her anything! To close it off she told us to pay straight away because she had to get off her shift. So so ridiculous and uncomfortable, especially for a place that charges 7CHF for a (very average) cappuccino. Never again!

Worst experience ever.The waitress is a rude racist with bad English accent. when we entered, she looked at us very unfriendly, making me really uncomfortable. When we couldn’t understand what she said in English, she started to laugh at us very loudly. When we want to order and pay the bill, she also ignored us several times. Never had this kind of experience in other countries and cities. Very bad impression to this place and even to Zurich.

Good location, but the service was very poor. I had to wait 30 minutes for my cafe and then another 20 minutes for my piece of cake, in the meantime the cafe was cold. Therefore unfortunately poor conditions and service (a shame). Nevertheless, I am convinced that the service could benefit from various training opportunities that are available and thus minimize the waiting time.

Top location and good coffee, depending on the service you may have to wait outside for 5 minutes. I can't shake the impression that the Motta crew is always surprised by the beautiful weather

We spontaneously went to Motta today. Our waiter (unfortunately we don't know his name!) has the sun in his heart, is friendly, attentive and funny! We will be back :-)!

Coffee was good, but service was slow. It took a while to get our order and even the bill unfortunately.

We went for coffee Sunday morning. Very fast service and polite staff. The coffee is good, as are the croissants and the apple pie....the chocolate is a bit disappointing. The accompanying biscuit they offer with the coffee (although I didn't eat it) shows how attentive Gran Café Motta is. It is located next to the river that connects to Lake Zurich and I think in the summer it will be very nice to have a coffee outside.

It is a place that invites you to “unwind”.

I have been several times over many years, the food and drink is always good to great, but the service is very variable. It can feel like an underlying tone that, because it is in an area with many tourists, most customers won't be back anyway so who cares. Today (Jan 30 2024) I was "accidentally" overcharged 30.- and had to point out the error myself. So not great right now.

For me one of the best hot chocolates in the city (I had the marshmallow hot chocolate)

The place is clean and tidy, the breakfast items are delicious and suitable, and the coffee tastes excellent 👌🏻 The workers are nice 👍🏻

My hands are shaking from the last worst experience of a pleasant trip. A female employee wearing glasses ignored all three orders. Even though they're not busy, they don't respond, so when I try to make eye contact and order, they end up greeting customers who come later... They mess with the table for no reason... Even when I gesture to order, they just tell me to wait and their expressions are filled with irritation... I said it three times and was ignored. So I just came out. This is the first time I have experienced something like this while traveling abroad. Please never go. It ruins a good trip. My hands still tremble.

I experienced truly outrageous racial discrimination in this cafe.

The Grand Café Motta is in a great location directly on the Limmatquai, with a direct view of the Limmat and the Lindenhof. The restaurant is beautifully designed and clean. The coffee is ok and the price-performance ratio is actually okay for the location, but the service needs a lot of improvement (and as you can see from the other reviews, our experience was not an isolated case). The waitress didn't greet us properly, the person seemed annoyed when serving the drinks and we had to ask for the bill several times at the end. Great location, but the service means we won't be coming back.

Worst experience ever. Went inside and no one cared or tried to greet customer. Found table by ourselves. Asked staff at the bar and no one ever wanted to answer any questions. A male waiter asked to wait at the table. 15 mins, no one came to ask anything. Went back to the bar and asked if we can do take away. The answer was ‘Go back to wait at the table, take away was not possible’ We had enough of waiting so we left, wasting our time nearly 20-25 mins for nothing. Will not recommend this place to anyone.

Leila was extremely rude and inattentive. Refused to give us our check after I asked about 5 times.

There were only two waiters for many tables, so the waiter took about 20 minutes to take our order, another 20 to deliver it to us and there weren't many tables... from there on out the hot chocolate is delicious, the ice creams are also delicious... What I don't recommend is the chai, it lacks flavor.

Very good atmosphere, delicious coffee, we ordered a sandwich that exceeded our expectations, the Tiramisu, the Tea, the ice cream very delicious.

If I'm in Zurich, I love going for a cappuccino at Motta.

Waiter wanted to throw away the newspaper we had on the table because we didn’t speak German and the newspaper was written in the local language. He literally asked me why I wanted to keep it if I couldn’t speak German. So what? He should mind his own business.

Fast service, fine cappuccino, juice of the day is always delicious. Prices are OK (not exaggerated). Sockets next to many seats. Cleanliness. Long opening hours. Clean toilets. Toilet for wheelchair users.

Decided to stop here after a very heavy rain. The coffee shop was very clean sheets were comfortable. Bathrooms were great and we had a good good attention from the people and stuff attending to us. I can recommend this place..

Nice coffee and big variety of food for all tastes. Have been there a few times and unfortunately, the service is quite slow. They make you wait to order, pay or even to ask for a simple sugar. Nevertheless, a good option.

Wait, wait and wait some more. You need enough time. Staff is actually nice. But what good is that if you don't get served? No matter how good the desserts are, they unfortunately leave a bad aftertaste.

Ahrrr, in the morning before you go to work, you can enjoy a delicious chocolate croissant and a delicious cappucino here. The service is impeccable and very warm. Gladly again and keep it up 👏 🍀🌪️💪. The interior is very tastefully decorated. I feel right at home here.

I received warm service while traveling alone. The staff are friendly and very nice. Be sure to enjoy a warm cappuccino :) The view and sofa are comfortable and healing.

Had dinner here with my girlfriend. The food was very tasty, we had the paninis (recommended). The service was friendly and could also speak good English. The price is more expensive than in the Netherlands, but compared to the other cafes it is not too bad. The atmosphere is less because you sit next to the tram and the seats are comfortable for a while.

Dear Motta team My husband and I have been customers for many years, but I have to say that the service is unfortunately very poor... I can't say this for all the employees (unfortunately 1-2 employees who are good), but if some of you have been here before, you will know what I mean. The only reason we come here every now and then on a Sunday is the coffee, it's good.

The location is perfect but the service was awful. I’ve been traveling around the world but it was the first time the person made me feel so uncomfortable. To be more specific, darker skin guy. I am not a German speaker but i do speak English. The one who approached us first was nice and and explained about the coffee(i wanted to drink iced americano) and he told me they serve iced black coffee then he took an order. But the rude guy came to serve, he mentioned the name of the coffee but i did not know it was mine then he said “you dont even know what you ordered”. I could not even respond… :/ also we felt the same when we paid. He must have an issue with me, Asian or female or what??? Today was the only day in Zurich, everything was memorable but It would have been better if I hadn't chosen this place.

We had breakfast there, it was okay and less than normal. Those who receive the food order are annoying and take the order from the back of the restaurant while screaming, they ruined the atmosphere and there is no air conditioning.

Nice restaurant / coffee with a view of the old town “Schipfe” Located directly on the Limmatquai where many tourists stroll. The opening times are a bit annoying; the last order can be placed as early as 9 p.m.

The service is terrible. The waiters couldn’t even speak properly German. The man waiter was complaining about the mistakes that our waiter made so that I care what her mistake was. I wanted to pay and not hear their fight. The service is completely terrible for a Coffe and a water she wanted to charge us 18fr because she got it wrong. The food might be good but the service and waiters are completely not intergrated at all.

Tables were not cleared and the staff didn't notice us even after 30 minutes of waiting. Even after we spoke to the boss and let another 30 minutes pass, no one came. I will never go there again.

The best coffee in Zürich with nice views on the river and people passing by and with friendly staff and interestingly looking guests. Plus their cakes are not bad. All good reasons to visit.

We visited the cafe earlier today and to our surprise, we met the most wonderful waitress. This lady was very welcoming and made us feel cozy. Also the food was very very good. She spoke English perfectly, so it was easy for us to communicate. She looked very professional. 100% recommend this place.

What an impossible cafe! No attention from the staff. Tables are not cleared. It's a mystery to me that people still go there. I left after 20 minutes after trying in vain to contact the really bad service staff.

We weren't offered a table, but all the tables had dirty dishes. We sat down, although I asked the staff to clear and clean the table, this took 15 minutes even though the landing was “empty”. Cake is advertised as homemade but it is frozen cake. Ordered a pot of tea, but this pot is made with hardly any water - this is “cheating”. Due to the poor service there was no tip. However, the waiter expected this and stood at the table for a very long time! Impudence! For what ? Toilets dirty and smelly. Location good, rest horror.

I love being there... whether it's a café or something more... it's always excellent! The view, the furnishings and, as I said, everything that can be ordered is very tasty... but what makes this restaurant special for me: is the always friendly staff, no matter whether there is a lot or little going on, they always try very hard and fulfill your every wish! The service doesn't even say hello. Sunday afternoon and a waiting time of over 30 minutes for the order. At the table next to us the order was placed after 15 minutes and we kept saying I'll be there soon. The waiting time for a bagel and an antipasti plate was over 30 minutes. What happened to the good old Gran Café? Then the order comes and then it's wrong. Where is the boss? The platter was tasty, that's why 1 star... It's a shame about the shop on one of the most beautiful roaches in Zurich.

I had the worst service possible here, the staff was incredibly rude and treated me and my party like trash. If you are a tourist especially, avoid this place at all costs you can get better service in a back alley. Awful place if I could give lower than one star I would.

Great coffee shop in a beautiful area. The service was good and the quality of the coffee and food was good. The croissants were fresh and delicious. The waiter was approachable and fast. The payment was fast and smooth. Nice place worth visiting especially on a sunny day. It can be very busy on certain days and in summer time. Some music is perhaps needed to create a much more enjoyable atmosphere.

The cafe here is nothing like I would expect from a bar named Motta - the cappuccino was ok, but the Marocchino was too foamy with little to no chocolate on the bottom.
