For the second time, I love you. The place is very beautiful, the food is superb and the service too. My favorite restaurant in all of Switzerland.

We ate very well at a reasonable price. Courteous staff and pleasant environment.

Characteristic grotto that is really well kept and has a special atmosphere. Interesting and well-assorted variety of local and seasonal products. In fact, the dishes were really delicious and will satisfy all tastes! The only flaw: the portions are not exactly generous if you are a "foodie" like me.

Wow, that was an extremely successful surprise. The restaurant can be found in the rather inconspicuous village of Manno in the "hinterland" of Lugano, although my impression was that it was no longer (anymore?) an insider tip. About the food: The very short menu spoke for quality and that was delivered - the Risotto Milanese alone: ​​to eat. The ambience was great (although we couldn't even find space on the terrace) and the service was courteous.

We went here for dinner (couple dinner) after it was recommended to us by a friend. We were more than satisfied. The Grotto is very nice and welcoming as is the staff who work there. The dishes are very good and of quality (mostly local origin). Good choice of wines, also from the nearby peninsula. The price is from Grotto. The location allows you to see Manno from another point of view!

Superb meal, the owners are very friendly

perhaps one of the best caves in the area, I went there with two friends, we took mixed cold cuts and cheese: special mention to the cured meats! Then we moved on to the yellow risotto with pork rolls with sage and bacon, something fantastic and finally: zabaglione with a scoop of ice cream. Excellent grotto in the magnificent and quiet village of Manno Family dinner at Ortiga in the old village of Manno with a convenient car park nearby. Very friendly staff and great service. To start we tasted a mixture of delicious appetizers. Then everyone chose from the menu, all the dishes were very good, the basil risotto was exceptional and it was fine with the escaped birds. The polenta with stew was good, but perhaps too sweet due to the onions. Very good desserts too, I really liked the bread cake. They also offered us digestives, thank you. Even though the prices are slightly high, we will return, we will ate very well.

I had dinner in this grotto in the center of the village of Manno. The place is the typical Ticino grotto, warm atmosphere, exposed wood and stone, small but refined menu, and wine to drink in ceramic cups. We had an appetizer of "tailor-made" cured meats and cheeses so we could try a bit of everything. The products were of excellent quality, and the portion generous. Followed by two cuts of beef with seasonal vegetables, and one of the grotto's strong dishes: the birds escaped with saffron risotto (which the very kind lady made exceptionally for one person and which was better than all the private ones in Italy). To finish, two chestnut mousses with meringue crumble and shortcrust pastries with passito wine. Everything was excellent and with generous portions, very honest mark-ups, including the wine. We will definitely return, perhaps with a slightly smaller car, because the streets of Manno are really narrow.

Antipasti della casa ottimi, il coniglio favoloso. Il cameriere super simpatico ci ha reso molto piacevole la lunga attesa dei piatti (per ciò non do 5 stelle, peccato). ritorneremo alla prossima occasione

A genuine place, flooded with peace and quietness. Service is nice and done with a smile. Cuisine is simple, “contadina” and certainly good. There are a few genuine Swiss/Italian dishes made simply and with attention to quality, which are delicious. The environment is lovely and quiet. A few tables are in the garden and it makes is a nice lunch in the natural freshness of the shadow.

Purtroppo una pessima serata. Siamo in due, ordiniamo due antipasto. Uno è disperso e arriva soltanto quando dopo aver terminato l’unico arrivato, facciamo notare che manca. “Scusate, è stato consegnato ad un altro tavolo”. Pazienza. Secondo: tagliata chiesta al sangue. Evidentemente non hanno idea di cosa voglia dire al sangue. (Foto allegata) Ce l’hanno rifatta, ok. Eravamo in due e non abbiamo mangiato insieme. La cameriera ha avuto il coraggio di commentare “tavolo sfortunato”.Mi spiace, la sfortuna non c’entra. Questa è scarsa professionalità. A mai più rivederci.

Wundervoller Ort! Man sitzt in den Weinbergen mit tollem Hof in einem wunderschönen kleinen Örtchen. Die Vorspeisen - Affettato misto - Salami, Bresaola, prosciuto und vor allem der Lardo sind ein Gedicht. Die Hauptspeisen herrlich und der Service einfach toll! Ein grosses Glück so ein tolles Kleinod gefunden zu haben. Vielen Dank für den tollen Abend 🙏

In the spirit of a grotto small menu but delicious food

In der Corona Zeit haben sie einen wunderbaren Hintereingang gemacht, wo es auch ein Paar lauschige Tische hat. Die Bedienung war sehr freundlich und das Essen vorzüglich.Die Lokalität ist wirklich einzigartig.

Wir sind dem Geheimtipp gefolgt. Die Lage ist sehr idyllisch am Hang von Manno. Das Grotto ist sehr stilvoll eingerichtet und hat den Tessiner Charm. Von der Salatsauce am grünen Salat über die Salami zum selber scheiden bis zum Risotto mit Basilikum und zum Fleischigen Hauptgang mit Polenta hat alles sehr gut gepasst. Ein gelungenes Essen nach traditioneller Tessiner Art. Uns hat es in diesem Ambiente sehr geschmeckt. Das Personal war sehr freundlich. Wir kommen sicher wieder. Das nächste mal vielleicht bei warmen Wetter - unter der Laube ist es bestimmt auch gemütlich

La signora è stata gentilissima: ha tenuto aperto la cucina per noi e ha lasciato un bellissimo ricordo di ospitalità ticinese nei miei "ospiti". Ci tornerò di sicuro!

Abbiamo cenato con degli amici sabato 30 novembre.Erano diversi anni che non mi recavo più al Grotto dell’Ortiga, avendo parecchi impegni lavorativi e soprattutto non abitando nel luganese, ma devo dire che si sta sempre bene!Il personale è cortese e disponibile ad esaudire tutte le richieste dell’utenza.Il cibo è sempre squisito e genuino e l’ambiente rimane caldo e accogliente come lo è sempre stato.Consiglio a tutti di fare una cena in questo bellissimo Grotto!

Abbiamo trascorso una piacevole serata aziendale in questo tipico grotto ticinese.Personale molto gentile e attento.Pietanze deliziose con verdure biologiche. Ottimi i salumi e antipasti. Abbiamo preso in seguito gli uccelli scappati, brasato, risotto e polenta. Tutto squisito!! Un posto veramente da consigliare!

Ambiente molto caratteristico e carino, ottime proposte stagionali (e quindi giustamente una carta non troppo lunga, ma comunque interessante), qualità dei piatti molto buona, soprattutto anche in rapporto col prezzo. Servizio buono, nonostante il frazionamento dei diversi ambiti del grotto con facilitano il lavoro al personale. Bravi ! Da ritornare indubbiamente.

Ottima cena in un locale in cui ci si sente come a casa. Bella e simpatica accoglienza fin dal momento della prenotazione. Cibi abbondanti, genuini e di qualità. Menù assemblato d’intesa con il cuoco/gerente che ci ha consigliato anche l’abbinamento con un vino Merlot di un piccolo produttore. Rapporto qualità e prezzo ottimo. Atmosfera tipica di un bel grotto ticinese, personale attento e cordiale. Abbiamo preso lardo con castagne, brasato di cervo e la tagliata di manzo. Tutto ottimo! Buona scelta di vini ticinesi a la carta. Ci torneremo sicuramente.

Simpatico grotto nel cuore di Manno. L'arredamento è come uno se lo aspetta di un grotto, con un qualche tocco personale aggiuntivo. Sii sempre stati serviti bene, da persone gentili e sorridenti. Alcune volte l'attesa è un po' eccessiva. Consiglio lo stufato di cinghiale che si scioglie in bocca!

Schöne Lage, nettes Ambiente und aufmerksames Personal. Gutes Essen und guter Wein. Die ganze Grotto ist in verschiedenen Räumen aufgeteilt..... sehr schön. Sehr zu empfehlen. Gerne wieder einmal. Unbedingt reservieren.

Ein Geheimtipp für mich seit Jahren-das Konzept wurde nur sanft verändert und es stimmt noch immer!Bin froh, dass ich dieses Grotto vor fast 20 Jahren wirklich entdeckt habe und ich kehre immer wieder gerne zurück! Die sorgfältige Weinkarte und die Authentizität bei den Speisen stimmen immer! Das Ambiente sowieso ohne zu strapazieren.Sie suchen ein typisches Grotto wo Regionalität, Ehrliche Finesse und Authentzitiät immer noch zelebriert werden-dann hier!

Wir waren spontan im Grotto Ortiga. Es war ein super tolles Erlebnis. Das Essen war der Hammer, das Ambiente schön, sauber und gepflegt. Ich empfehle jedem, einen Tisch zu reservieren. Wir hatten Glück, dass es noch einen freien Platz gab. Wer ein gutes Grotto mit gutem Essen und netter Bedienung sucht, ist im Grotto Ortiga richtig.

Wir waren auf Empfehlung unseres Gastgebers hier und es war grandios! Das Essen war typisch und wirklich schmackhaft! Der Wein war hervorragend und für die Schweiz tatsächlich bezahlbar. Der Raum ist gemütlich, der Service freundlich und hilfsbereit und offensichtlich ist dies ein Ort für nette Menschen: das Lokal war ausgebucht und es waren ausschließlich schweizer Familien bzw. Paare dort, die überaus nett waren. Die Speisekarte ist ausschließlich italienisch, also sind Sprachkenntnisse vorteilhaft oder man bestellt einfach irgendetwas und lässt sich überraschen, denn alles ist sehr gut! Hier wird auch italienisch gesprochen, aber man wird auch ohne Sprachkenntnisse mit Händen und Füßen verstanden und zuvorkommend behandelt. Etwas schwer zu finden, das Navi führt bei der angegebenen Adresse in eine Sackgasse, daher kurz vor dem Ziel rechts den Parkplatz nehmen und den Rest zu Fuß zurücklegen: durch das Gittertor, über die Wiese und den Innenhof. Wunderbar!

Great food, traditional polenta from the fireplace and great variaty of choices. Most friendly service, eager to facilitate tasting and share history. While very close to the highway and the city center, it is really 'outside' in what feels like a tiny village on the mountain. Stopped here on the way back from winter sports and can definitely recommend for a great intermezzo in the trip.

Invitati da amici a cena abbiamo conosciuto questo grotto. È stata una piacevole e simpatica esperienza. L’accoglienza, i consigli ricevuti e il servizio sono stati ottimi. Il menu presenta diversi piatti legati alla cucina tradizionale ticinese molto interessanti e ben cucinati. Fra i secondi noi abbiamo assaggiato il brasato e gli “uccelli scapati” con polenta, il gigot d’agnello con apprezzati contorni di verdure di stagione. I dessert li abbiamo trovati nella norma: dalla torta di pane ai sorbetti (mandarino), a una originale ciambella ticinese affogata nel caffè con gelato al cioccolato. Nella buona carta dei vini abbiamo trovato etichette conosciute in Ticino ed altre di produttori più di nicchia (Nebbiolo dei Cavallini della val di Muggio). Un grotto che possiamo tranquillamente consigliare dove il rapporto qualità-prezzo è senz’altro buono.

Cuisine bonne et ambiance très sympathique

Sono venuta qui con la mia famiglia per il compleanno. Ho adorato l’arredo antico e l’ambiente caloroso e accogliente che si sente all’interno del locale. Cenare vicino ad un caminetto acceso non ha paragoni. Ottimi i salumi e i carciofi presi in entrata. Sublime la polenta (era parecchio tempo che non ne mangiavo una così buona) e le costolette d’agnello. Buonissimo rapporto qualità - prezzo. Personale cordiale e gentile. Consiglio vivamente questo ristorante.
