Nice little hotel, small but clean rooms, scanty breakfast

I made a booking request for 1 night and received an offer relatively quickly, which we then wanted to book. Then nothing positive happened...I had to wait days for confirmation. I have emailed and called the hotel several times with no luck. The next time I tried to call, someone finally answered. Unfortunately, the lady was relatively unfriendly and unwelcoming. She assured me that I would receive confirmation shortly. Again empty promises...I had to write to the hotel again. Then the lady wrote that you are very understaffed and that the email can go unanswered for several days. A no go for a 4 star hotel, in my opinion. I then wrote that we were quite disappointed and afraid to make this trip to the accommodation. I then received a cancellation (without my will). Pretty cheeky and rude. I'm sorry, but this way of dealing with potential guests is simply not possible. You don't feel welcome at all and this way of dealing with guests... Definitely not recommended. I'm sorry.

This was the second time we were guests at the Hotel Alpbach. Once again, all of our expectations were perfectly met. The owner-managed hotel scores with friendly service and an excellent menu and wine list. The good location, the quiet rooms and the excellent price/performance ratio make the stay perfect. Everything is sparkling clean, the staff is extremely friendly and attentive. Locals also visit the restaurant. The location is central but not directly on the main traffic axis. Equipped with its own parking space, you can easily arrive by car or public transport. The walk to the valley station of the Meiringen-Hasliberg cable cars takes about 5 minutes (in ski boots). The way to the train station hardly takes any time at all. There are shopping opportunities in the immediate vicinity. The rooms are quiet, beautifully designed and functionally furnished, as befits a 4-star hotel. The beds should be replaced soon but everything else is really great. The kitchen offers tasty dishes on a clear menu. It is freshly cooked and despite the regional and seasonal focus, small exotic delicacies surprise every now and then. The wine list only offers quality wines from Switzerland, France, Italy and Spain and complements the menu excellently. The breakfast buffet is comprehensive and of excellent quality. Definitely for us again when the opportunity arises.

Da mein Magen keine stark säurehaltegen Weine erträgt und ich zu einem bekannten, auch noch einen mir unbekannten Wein zur Auswahl hatte, fragte ich den "Kellner" ob er mich beraten könne. Er schaute mich mit grossen Augen unsicher an und ... das rechne ich ihm hoch an... sagte, dass er keine grosse Ahnung von Weinen habe und seine Frau kontaktieren müsse. Als er zurück kam, war es ohne grosse Überraschung der teurere Wein der besser sei! Als er den Wein brachte und ich probieren durfte, war er aber wirklich freundlich und erkundigte sich ehrlich danach ob die Säure meinem Magen bekömmlich sei. Die Rösti aussen verbrannt und innen eine Pappe! Ich selber koche auch gerne und GUT ESSEN würde ich anders beschreiben als wir es dort erfahren haben! Wir sassen nach dem Essen 35 Minuten vor den leeren Tellern. Als von einer netten Service Frau abgeräumt wurde, sagte ich dass wir gerne noch einen Espresso trinken würden. Wir müssten aber auf die letzte Bahn nach Innertkirchen und könnten nicht nochmal 30 Min. warten. Der Café kam zügig und die Rechnung auch. Ich bezahlte mit dem 200Fr. Gutschein und da wenig vorig blieb einem TG oberndrein. Wir verliessen das Haus. Die Chefin lief ohne ein Wort neben uns vorbei. Hier sind Gäste mit Gutscheinen nicht willkommen.
