Very slow service, definitely a lack of staff.

Disgraceful service (were simply not served and left standing). Simply impossible!!!

We sat upstairs, and the old lady serving us was extremely rude, and from her reactions with others, I'm sure it was an act of racism against us. Didn't clean our table, throw the menu at us ... I have to say all the staff are rude and unfriendly making the atmosphere extremely weird. Management needs to fire all to maintain the business

I was there today. Uncomfortable, unfriendly staff, you have to wait a long time before someone comes to order/pay.

We encountered a very unfriendly atmosphere upon arrival. Despite attempting to inquire about seating options, the staff appeared disinterested and didn't acknowledge us. Eventually, we seated ourselves and waited for service, but none arrived. We had to retrieve menus from the table and eventually had to approach the staff to inquire about ordering. Furthermore, the quality of the food (Quiche with salad) was disappointing; it tasted akin to fast food. Despite the café's excellent location, we had hoped for better service quality, but unfortunately, we were left disappointed.

Open 364 days? This morning, Thursday 02/22/24, the company was unfortunately closed. The only day that wasn't open earlier was December 25th. It would be advantageous if you correct or adjust opening times in Google and remove the address at the entrance.

Unfortunately the coffee is no longer as good as it used to be. It tastes watery and stale. I think it's due to the coffee machine, which has apparently been around for many years and is no longer properly maintained or cleaned. The baker also seems to have his moods. The croissants are either too dry or too oily or over baked. There is probably no longer any emphasis on quality. In this good location, the café can afford to serve poor quality and at inflated prices.

The service is a disaster. Wait 30 minutes for just the card to be brought. Just hire more staff.

At the moment there was no staff, I waited over 20 minutes to order a coffee, the service employee was overwhelmed and then I got up alone without drinking a coffee but was totally angry, my time is also valuable, they should put up a sign outside, longer waiting times for orders would then be Don't go there if you don't have time. Went there again for a long time and were very disappointed. We had to wait forever until we were served. Although the waiters even stood next to our table several times, we were not asked what we would like. The waitress (black gloves) who finally served us was visibly stressed and completely overwhelmed by the well-filled dining room. In between she received support from the buffet and a nice waiter. She wouldn't have made it otherwise. We were already thinking about leaving the restaurant after more than 20 minutes when we were asked what we would like. It was like that for a lot of people. It's a shame for this well-located restaurant. We were also able to watch how the hot drinks were prepared. When we came into the restaurant there was already a hot chocolate on the buffet and was waiting for the waiters to bring it to the guest. A full 20 minutes later it was still there. The Schümli was no longer there. It was then brought to the guest, a pile of misery from what was once an impressive hot chocolate. Usually the waiter is the final check and something like that shouldn't be served anymore. Not if quality and service are important to you. There are a few things that urgently need to be rethought in this restaurant. We won't be coming back any time soon. There are enough places in Basel that are many times better. A pity. ☹️

This is a latte machiato at Huguenin. A half-full tea glass is filled with the actual contents and the rest is filled with milk foam. When asked if this was normal, the answer was as follows; I don't know, I don't know what a latte machiato looks like. So much for customer friendliness!!!

Great food and an even better view. We went there on the 1st of January and as you can imagine it was really full and a little bit loud. I enjoy the food but it took a long time before getting it. Manly because it was too full otherwise everything else was okay.

This café is known as the local pub in this place. We go every time we're in town. Very nice ambience and also a great selection. But the service is just sad. There is no response when you call them, they look at you and keep running. No smiles, nothing, just angry faces. Sorry for a service you expect cheerful, smiling staff. All I could see was a stressed out waitress with no desire. Sorry, then look for another job. I can understand that it is stressful but sorry, friendliness is necessary. We watched the staff, the things we ordered were just placed on the table as the bell rang without saying a word. Shameful...it wasn't just our impression, but many people at the tables next door commented the same thing. It's a shame, it's a shame, please look for better, friendlier staff, because there are a lot of bells that want to work.

Very famous and old right next to the Markplatz...Swiss price therefore...1 cappuccino 5.90 francs and 1 coffee 5 francs. Otherwise the place is clean but the welcome is very authoritarian

The sandwiches are an insult to the Swiss kitchen (and way too expensive). You get just one tiny slice of cold, supermarket quality sliced bread. Chewy ham. The tuna salad was nice, but required another slice of bread.

These croissants are fantastic! Crispy on the outside, buttery on the inside, fragrant, homemade, simply delicious. As well as the patisserie, cakes, pastries, etc. Highly recommended for connoisseurs who appreciate that they still bake things themselves. Of course with butter and cream.

I really enjoy going to Café Huguenin for a snack. The best croissants and very good cappuccino, friendly staff at a fair price, what more could I want 😃 Looking forward to next time, after this morning...

I have visited Huguenin many times on my visits to Basel, sometimes just for a coffee, and sometimes for lunch. My latest lunchtime experience wasn't the greatest, though. Both I and one of my companions ordered the Cordon Bleu, but we felt it was very dry and definitely lacking in cheese inside. We made this known to the waitress, but she didn't seem much interested in our feedback and barely acknowledged it, mumbling that she would pass it onto the kitchen, but giving us the impression that it was nothing to do with her, although she obviously represents the restaurant as customer-facing member of staff.

Visited this place for a quick brunch during my stay in Basel. I really like their quick service and the lady who was serving the food was very nice. We tried the oreo shake which was really nice and the cheese ravioli and it was one of the best Ravioli I tried. Their desserts were cherry on the top we tried the chocolate muffins and the mango tiramisu. And the mango tiramisu was so good. I also tried the cheese quiche which was not as good as I was expected. But everything else is so good. Highly recommended ✅

As a student it can be a pleasant place to learn. Some points need improvement but in any case the Bircher Müsli is delicious!

Stopped for lunch. Very comfortable and peaceful upstairs restaurant with view of square. Excellent service. Shared two flamekuchen between three of us - came served with very large side salads. Very tasty food.

A great place to relax. After visiting the history museum, you can sit at the tables set under the trees. Since we visited in June, we did not sit inside. It's a crowded, lively, cheerful place. It's very nice to spend time.

I sat alone in the cafe, customers were all outside in the nice weather. There were four waitresses walking around inside, mind you, none of them made any effort to ask me if I wanted to order something🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️I had to get up myself.

We actually wanted to eat something on the first floor at 1:15 p.m. It was closed, service only outside or on the ground floor. A pity. - And since when has the entrance from Barfüssergasse actually been closed? And why isn't that written down?

Actually never bad but today, on a Friday lunchtime, we waited a whopping 45 minutes for an average Quiche Lorraine... Service was completely overwhelmed and therefore unfriendly. If you have a staff shortage, you shouldn't open a terrace with 30 tables

Lunch: Home-style selection, quality ok. The fries were very good. Service was a bit off and just about friendly.

Very nice, young service - but overwhelmed. The espresso was mediocre, extremely hectic inside, loud arguments between the staff, a furious, dirty, unappetizing chef - and then the toilets: the horror, I've rarely seen anything as dirty and worn out as this. Nothing is invested here, only the formerly good name and the location are exploited to the last drop....

Mediocre. I'm there often and I have to say, it's losing its coziness. It's very loud inside and not suitable for relaxing, especially at peak times. The quality of the coffee is 3/10 stars. You definitely have to get better there. McDonalds now offers better coffee. Long waiting times are okay for me, otherwise I actively get up and go pay. The waiters have been nice so far, but they are also extremely stressful there. Prices are high for what you get. Coffee from 5 francs. The house draws on its old good reputation. I'm happy to change my rating if I experience something better.

I recently visited Huguenin, and unfortunately, it was a terrible experience. My friend and I stopped by for some drinks, and the service was just awful. The staff seemed disinterested and unattentive, and it took them a long time to even acknowledge our presence. When we finally managed to flag someone down and place our order, it took even longer for our drinks to arrive. When they did, they were poorly made and tasted terrible. We both ended up leaving our drinks untouched and just paid the bill to get out of there. Overall, I would not recommend Huguenin to anyone. I would look for a diffrent place when u pass by this restaurant.

Good coffee with good beer and great, open until 7 p.m., there are also lots of outdoor spaces.

Carnival Monday around 1:30 p.m. As a homesick Basel resident from Zurich, I can't avoid enjoying the carnival. Every visit to Basel usually includes a visit to Huguenin. So I arrived in Basel yesterday and my first course was the Huguenin. I was looking forward to a flour soup and an onion tart. The café has not skimped on service staff. They swarmed through the café like busy bees. Friendly but sometimes awkward and overwhelmed. But at least there were enough there. The service was quick and friendly. Then came the flour soup and the onion tart. The soup was edible but nothing more. For the fact that it is supposed to be “homemade”, well… less than average…. The onion tart, however, was subpar! The onions are still half raw. Nothing can be seen or tasted from a pour. The only spice that could be seen and tasted was the pepper lying around on the surface. The whole thing is just tasteless. I gave it back and said it was a disaster. The young lady was already overwhelmed by this. She said she would say it in the kitchen. Well, I thought that anyone would be even remotely interested in that at a carnival. You can charge astronomical prices, serve questionable food, it doesn't matter, the place is full. Who cares about a guest who is not satisfied? Very unpleasant and unworthy of a Huguenin. But carnival, you just want to make as much money as possible. A pity.

Time-honored coffee house with very friendly and attentive service. The range of cakes and patisserie is clear and fresh. Our own homemade cold tea is highly recommended. On the upper floor you have a good all-round view of the surrounding area. We like to come here to linger after shopping.

It is a must to order these 🍎 chüechli with warm vanilla sauce. Just make sure that the cappucino doesn't come 20 minutes early, because that's how long you have to wait for this wonderful freshly prepared apple slice dish, which is definitely worth it...The service is experienced and friendly, everything runs smoothly, that's fine Rarely anything goes wrong...the ambience is therefore elegantly quiet and well-kept....

I didn't have anything to eat - though the food looked tasty. The cappuccino was delicious and the servers were very friendly and efficient.

Old-established cafe at Barfi. The interior is definitely showing its age, although some charm still remains. The menu is large for a cafe. Traditional lunch menu. In winter there are also great coffee variations with Baileys etc.

DANGER. CHF notes that are over 20 years old are given out here as change. These are no longer valid as means of payment and - despite the staff saying otherwise - will no longer be exchanged by the bank!!

Unfortunately, unmotivated service staff, the espresso and cappuccino taste very weak and then very expensive at 5.00 and 5.90. A pity......

It's a good place for a drink or for eating. Close to center, there is a great terrace espicaly when the sun is shining. A little bit noisy since its close to trams liens as well as some games beside.

went here due to reviews. Open plaza location- bit noisy next to tram/ public square with large screen. Small selection for breakfast, but locals prefer just croissants I noticed. Coffee just fair. Ordered Alsace tart and sausage salad. Very slow service (nearly gave up), and indifferent. Salad was very fresh and my partner enjoyed it; tart was quite nice but came with very basic salad.

The hot chocolate ordered was quite good but the service was deplorable... Long wait to place the order (although there were still only a few people when we arrived), rather unpleasant waiter, long table service, the bill which took a long time to arrive... In short, poor organization and management. Go on your way!
