India Village in Interlaken

Absolutely delicious lunch at Indian Village Restaurant. The food was sooo good. The Butter chicken had a very complex and nuanced flavor - truly exceptional. My chicken curry was one of the best I’ve ever had. Such nice people! Beautiful views from our table also.

I found this restaurant through trip advisor on my last night in the area. It was ranked number one in trip advisor so I decided to give it a shot. I can not overstate how amazing this restaurant is. I’ve been traveling throughout Europe the past month and this is by far some of the best food I’ve had. The ambience of the place was amazing, staff amazingly friendly. I asked to change seats due to a loud group and they did not hesitate to help. Some of the kindest people I’ve interacted with here in Switzerland. The food was stellar. I had goosebumps with every bite. Some of the best food I’ve ever had. I’ve seen someone the one star reviews and as an Indian-American my experience was nothing like those stated in the one star reviews. I will say the one downside is the price, but it’s Switzerland so what can you expect.

Food was as excellent and delicious. It was recommended by few friends who experienced to stay and having Indian food there. Taste, freshness of ingredients and spices level are all in balance. It is highly recommended. Location is bit off to town center but owner are so kind and friendly they drop us back to our hotel in Interlaken west.

Me and my two Indian friends had lunch here two days back, in my 11 years of stay in Switzerland and Indian restaurant food experience here this was the best and closest to authentic Punjabi food, the butter rotis were like homemade- toooooo good👌👌 Staff was friendly and spice levels were adjusted as requested, ambience was lovely, location is also very scenic but for someone trying to reach here first time can get a bit lost to reach as pedestrian walkway is missing for some parts of the street that leads to this restaurant.

We ordered Palakpaneer and tandoori Butter Roti. Tandoori Roti was soft and palakpaneer, they made it exactly according to our spice levels. Will definitely go to this Restaurant whenever we are in Interlaken.

We ordered butter naan with Rajma Masala. After a long trip we have the experience of having authentic Indian rajma masala with naan .... what could I say more it's tasty and delicious 😋😊🤤 at the end of the day.

The food was probably the closest thing to what you get in India. It's really authentic and they make it as spicy as you want. The service is absolutely amazing. Would definitely be going there again if I'm in Interlaken again.

The best Indian restaurant in Interlaken, Rupe is a great person who serves delicious meals with joyful smiles, they serve a lot of the Indian cuisine dishes in satisfying plates, the prices is kinda reasonable but to the taste it would be good.

We are an Indian family and we loved the food at Indian Village. It was exceptionally prepared and it felt like we were in our home in Delhi. Their owners are so kind and lovely. They even dropped us to the Interlaken Ost Station afterwards for free. Really nice people, service, and food.

We stayed at the hotel for 3 nights, and we only did it out of absolute necessity. We’d been traveling already for a week and were exhausted by the time we were trying to get a hotel near Interlaken. It was extremely hard to find a place that had availability, so we settled for Indian Village. But it is a complete ripoff. SERVICE: I would rate higher if not for everything else, and the fact that the prices were EXUBERANT for the quality of the hotel, even being that it is in Interlaken. I had asked if there was a store he recommended nearby to buy phone chargers because I thought mine was broken, and the owner helped me confirm my charger was the problem and then lent me a cable for the night. He also gave us free passes for transportation around the city, but it would’ve been nice to have something directly from the hotel. LOCATION: There are a lot of reviews saying the location is “amazing”. If you only plan to stay for a night and aren’t going to be doing a lot of activities, the location is fine. The view from our hotel room was very pretty and right at the river. It is a 15 minute walk to virtually everything that is in the main part of town. If you don’t have luggage and you’re just going out for the day, the gravel path along the river IS beautiful and a nice little walk. After a few days though, it gets to be inconvenient. There is no dedicated transport to and from the hotel. Taxis are already nearly impossible to get in Interlaken. No busses go to Indian Village. When we first arrived we were able to get a taxi there from the OST Train Station because it was late at night, and the driver said that he was a friend of the owner and did “all of the taxi driving for the hotel”. But we never saw any vehicles available to take us in and out of the city after that. This is especially a nuisance with luggage, as gravel is hard to pull suitcases on and the road you can walk has a lot of blind spots for drivers, so it’s somewhat hazardous. ROOMS AND CLEANLINESS: The rooms are big and offered various seating aside from the bed, and the bathroom was decent. There was also a fan which came in handy. But it never felt or looked completely clean. They have air freshener wall plug-in’s that are super intense. We had to leave ours outside the entire stay. All the rooms are at ground level, and if we wanted to open our windows (because it was often stuffy inside), it seemed like someone was always smoking a cigarette right outside. The biggest ick is that our original room had dark brown stains (that were not dry, they were fresh) on the sheets, AND there were BOOGERS on the pillow cases. I can’t make this up. The bedding had obviously not been changed. When we told the owner, he said he was going to come change them for us “right away”. After waiting 20 minutes, we took the pillow case to him to show him how disgusting the situation was. Only then did he decide to move us to a different room. Trying to sleep at night was difficult because the doors to the room are blurred glass and there are bright lights outside of each door, so it was never really dark enough to sleep. BATHROOMS: You do need to be aware that the bathroom and showers are COMMUNAL/SHARED unless you pay an extra 90€ to have a room with a private bathroom. They do not tell you this when you book your room. FOOD: There is no breakfast, which is another inconvenience considering, again, it’s a 15+ minute walk to everything. There IS a restaurant attached to the hotel, which we never ate at but it seems to have good reviews. Overall, I would not stay here unless you’re in a pinch and there are no other options.

We were there last week at Interlaken and went for dinner there.The food was awesome. The staff was great and very helping. Service was really good. I just say it was authentic Indian food. But one good thing want to mention: I with my family had dinner and it was around 8:30 PM and we had to catch the train at Interlaken station at 9.We started walking towards station then the restaurant owner lady came and offered to drop us to the station. We agreed and Paji(owner of the restaurant) dropped us at the station.I just say it was great help as we’re tired due to whole day activities. Again thank you so much guys , you are really doing good.

Amazing meal tonight at India village! We are Indian from NY, and have tried four Indian restaurants in Switzerland since we arrived 8 days ago. India village is by far the best Indian restaurant we have had in Switzerland. Hands down. The service is great, the food is delicious! My dad said it was just like my moms home cooking. The staff is so responsive, and helpful. Thank you for a great experience India village!

The food was excellent Indian food! The service was very good and were more than happy to accommodate us Americans adding food and splitting bills. I got Medium spicy but I could have easily gone all the way (I notice food spice levels are exaggerated for Germans and Swiss and are on par with Mexican spice levels). I enjoy it very much!

Had a stay there for 2 nights. Very spacious room and clean bathroom. Good location to explore all major tourist attractions. Food was good and delicious. Overall nice experience.

Service was good, staff was polite. Main course was fine. Paneer tikka starter was not good, can be improved. Mango lassi was good and refreshing. Tandoori roti and naan didn't look like they were prepared in a tandoor, more home style. Overall good if you're looking for homely food.

Food had a good taste, reason for 3 stars is… they charged us even for the “tap” water!!! (Unbelievable) (unreasonably expensive as well!) We ate at quite a few good rated restaurants in Interlaken and no one charged for “tap” water! Edit: Their lack of customer service etiquette was quite evident from their response to my feedback!! Won’t recommend. There are various other nice restaurants nearby where you get quality food in same price and nice staff.

THIS HOTEL MAKES MY TRIP TO INTERLAKEN MORE UNFORGETTABLE 🥹💕 The room is super cozy and well-organised. Everything you need is provided (Water kettle, cups, folks, spoons, tea, coffee, hairdryer, fan, TV, etc.) The staffs is friendly and willing to help you 💁‍♀️ Also, the view from the window is really great (for my room). The walking aside the hostel is also fresh and pretty, leading to another village as well I suppose 🥹 If you have a car, this one is the best option! I love this hotel 🥹

Restaurant food is very tasty but bit expensive

Dinner was amazing. Paneer was so soft and Chicken Tikka Tandoori was excellent. Chicken was juicy and well marinated. Naan was soft and the samosa was awesome.

We were craving Indian food and this place hit the spot. The exact level of spice we needed plus great chai. Service was great and they went above and beyond - even dropping us off at our hotel after dinner. Recommend this to all visiting interlaken.

Imagine a restaurant owner admitting there was hair in a customers food and still having arrogance towards paying customer lol. I asked you to remove the entire naan from the bill since the hair had contaminated the entire naan order which we ordered two but you put in the same basket… But reflect on your response as a restaurant owner. Not once did you apologize for ruining our appetite. Then you blame me for the hair. How are you in the restaurant business? “sorry for your inconvenience, the naan you didn't eat, we removed that naan. It was just a piece. But you have to pay for the food you ate. You cannot talk the way you talked to the service person. If you had a hair problem then the hair was lying in the basket and it could be yours too. You tell us that it is our good fortune that you are giving us some money. We were not begging you. Have you taken your meals .. Pay has to be done. You had left a piece of naan, your entire naan has been cancelled. Sorry, everything can't be canceled.”

Went for dinner. The food was okay. The naan had hair on the basket. Asked the owner to remove it from the bill and she would not remove it totally. Overpriced for the quality. Sad excuse for ownership.

Awesome food with good hospitality from all the staffs of the restaurant and hotel staffs

Owner is pathetic, he opened an Indian restaurant and treats them so badly. He thinks everyone wants everything free. He fails to understand that if a tourist in a foreign country can spend on travelling then why not on food. Just check the replies he has given to all 1 star reviews, you will understand how arrogant this person is.

Place is close to Interlaken Ost station. Super tasty food & excellent customer service. The best Indian food in Switzerland, very authentic. Entire team is very courteous & top notch in service. Luckily we were staying in The River Village Hotel, to which this restaurant is attached. Hotel is also amazing for stay but difficult to get booking during peak season. Location is excellent. Definitely be visiting this place upon my next visit to Interlaken.

Just a critical feedback and I hope the restaurant and management leadership will take corrective actions. First things first, A positive welcome nature and customer service is important for any chain of restaurant irrespective of the affordability or quality that they serve. Keeping this in note, what we observed from starting of dine in and exit made us feel unhappy and spoiled the mood of authentic indian vibe for rest of the night. So lets discuss further on the observations and incidents. When you enter the restaurant, there is a clear note written specifically in Hindi and the very first statement says “nothing is free” - literal translation. Pissed me off being living in Europe for long time & travelling around the globe( an ambient restaurant having such a note is pathetic ) Not sure how a place like in swiss interlaken global travel hotspot allowed to write such rude statement. I understand you may have different intentions to write that, but you could deliver the same message in positive note ( please do so, before this get quickly escalated, it will soon) Let’s move on, we started dining, the ordered food took as much time as possible ( 30+ minutes ) however stated in the same hindi chalk board and as well any further adhoc running order is queued to deliver again after 20+ minutes. The quality of food is considerate as we cannot expect authentic taste of indian food in europe. We took open terrace view to enjoy the food and view, in the middle of dining, unexpected rain kicked in, and the waiter/waitress didn’t bother much to help out and when asked for table movement help, the first attitude was, “yes you can move yourself to next table” ( should be called as self service restaurant, lol ) Final food for thought- Did you treat same way for all guests ( any country nationals) if yes then makes me to think, how its not closed by officials yet. I hope the behaviour changes when I ask my friends to visit the same restaurant next time ( will ask them to share their honest feedback as well ) READ THIS - The reply from the restaurant which contains the story about customer service asking about not to sit outside is absolutely False statement. None of the staff told us. This is open challenge if you want to prove with some webcam recording. Try to take constructive criticism in positive note rather than dodging the bullet concept. I hope the restaurant will learn whats the meaning of feedback and wish you long running success if it sustains with this attitude towards people and culture differences

Personal experience after visiting this restaurant: DISAPPOINTED - food quality was good enough(but the other day in another restaurant I found the taste much better although taste can be subjective), placed opposite to scenic view of lake. - felt like overrated reviews as we were really excited to have Indian authentic experience. Rude staff(passive aggressive) not sure why as I have rarely encountered such situations in other parts of Europe. -Didn’t like Hindi chalk board writing on the front of restaurant “nothing is free” ( only for targeted audience those who know HINDI?) intention could be good but it sent wrong msg atleast for me. Never seen anywhere I have gone(even in Switzerland Indian Restaurants) something like this. Better write in English as everyone gets your msg loud and clear!! Edit: Lol I feel like you are not able to grasp the concept of Constructive Criticism. “I am writing my HONEST REVIEW for others not for you”. - don’t write FALSE STATEMENTS HERE. Did we ask for FREE FOOD OR ANY FREE SERVICES to you or your staff??? - No one came and suggested not to sit outside or anything like that. I am laughing as how can someone make their own stories like that? In short: -try to take constructive criticism if owner can(which i doubt after seeing replies on 1stars) - who asked you for anything for FREE??? One of the best Indian restaurants in Interlaken. Food and service is best. Proximity very close to Interlaken ost train station. Also they have very nice motel so please note " Indians who need food and best stay can easily stay here" Also hats off to maneka madam and bhupendra singh sir for arranging transport vehicle to ost station. I was with my child and it was raining,.We had only five minutes to catch train . But maneka madam arranged for the vehicle at free of cost that too without asking for one. It's so nice to see someone of own country helping you at difficult times. Thanks by heart.

We had a delicious dinner here while visiting Interlaken. The food was very flavorful and the waitstaff kind & attentive! Definitely recommend! (Lots of vegetarian options & meat options, too - something for everyone)

We call the restaurent on phone when we were in Lauterbrunnen and they prepared the take away on time. The food is very tasty and quantity is also superb. The spice level was asked before and perfect for kids. Enjoyed the dishes. Very thoughtfull pakaging, we could take it in a train without making others uncomfortable 😋 They kept also many plates and cutleries. We missed the nice ambinace in the restaurent. Will visit again soon.

Beautiful rooms and cottages, suitable for families

The food was amazing and the restaurant is very clean and immaculate . The food came quick too. Furthermore, the owner was very kind . I have a toddler and it was quite late for us to walk back to Interlaken OST station and was asking for a faster way back. so the owner kindly offered us a ride in his car . We really appreciate it. Fantastic food and even better customer service. Food was very authentic and of quite high quality; I have been to Switzerland three times now and this was the best Indian food I have had here thus far. We had originally ordered food from here without realizing how far it was from our hotel, necessitating us having to walk quite a long distance to pick up our order; head chef Rupinder was incredibly gracious and took the time to drive us back to our hotel upon hearing this. It is clear he and his team care about their customers and have excellent food to match. Will definitely be returning upon my next visit to Interlaken.

We had an amazing stay at the Indian Village. It is a great value for money and a good choice for those looking to do the Jungfraujoch region ( Interlaken, Top of Europe, Grindelwald, Wengen, Lauterbrunnen etc). It is walking distance to Interlaken OST Station, has an in-house restaurant which serves delicious Indian cuisine, clean and newly furnished rooms in a scenic location next to the river and Harder Kulm. The staff is very courteous and friendly. We are also very appreciative of the owner who helped more than once dropping us to train station when we had luggage. I highly recommend Indian Village for all the above points.

Went to the restaurant. It's a 10min walk from Interlaken station inside the camping area. Butter chicken was excellent 👌 😋. The daal makhni could have been better but still way better than what you expect from an average Indian restaurant in Europe. Their service stood out. Offered us a ride back to the station since it was late and raining.

BEST Indian food I’ve ever had (and I’ve had a LOT of Indian food in my life). Plenty of vegan and vegetarian options. Enjoyed it so much, we came back 2 nights in a row! Specifically recommend the Navratan Korma, yum, yum, yum!

This is hands down the best Indian food you can get in Interlaken. This is as close as it gets to the original flavors of India.

We happened to see this place whilst on our boat ride and decided to drop by for some Indian food. We got wonderful service and were served delicious Indian parathas and tea. The staff was very helpful and courteous and they were sweet enough to drop us off in their (very luxurious) car to the station. I'm looking forward to my next visit!! Hope you guys keep up the great quality and work ! 😊

After reaching to Interlaken, it was afternoon around 1 pm and we were feeling hungry. Then i Googled the indian restaurant nearby and found "Indian Village" quite close to us say around 300 meters. We had walked a bit..and reached the restaurant and ordered some food. The taste and quality of food was very good. We Enjoyed it. Reasonable prices. Thanks for the dishes.

Every year we travel to Interlaken just to eat at the India Village restaurant. Undoubtedly the most authentic Indian food in CH and one of the best in Europe. Friendly owners, excellent service and amazing food esp. the lamb biriyani. I am quite picky about Indian restaurants in CH and the quality of lamb biriyani at a restaurant is a great judge of its authenticity. I wish I could travel everyday to Interlaken just to eat at the India Village. Kudos to Chef Rupinder and team for maintaining authenticity when it's very easy to pass any sort of spicy food as Indian cuisine in Europe.

My husband Jamie and I stayed here back in the summer and it was a nice vacation. The food and restaurant was incredibly good. we had gone back to Interlochen around Halloween and camped out add a TCS but not without visiting the restaurant again for a nice dinner. The chef and everybody there were extremely nice and again the food was absolutely incredible which is why the next day they accommodated Us taking out lunch at noon because the restaurant doesn’t open till five. we ordered a bunch of amazing food that we took back for the 2 Hour Dr. back To Les diablerets. Thank u again and can't wait for our next visit

Chaque fois que nous sommes de passage à Interlaken, nous faisons en sorte de passer à India Village. L’ambiance, la musique et surtout les mets, tout y est juste, fin et équilibré. Nous avons mangé le Chicken Masala et Lamb Biriyani. Pour nous, c’est l’adresse incontournable pour recherche une cuisine indienne subtile et de grande qualité en Suisse.
