Very choosy. Lovely food and a sympathetically unorganised service. We got everything we asked for with a smile 😉

Went there following a local's recommendation. Found a very cosy, comfortable place, great service and a tasty coffee cup. We've had a wonderful breakfast and will surely come back for more.

A nice coffee in Bern's old town. The service is courteous and nice. What I found really unpleasant was when I asked for an additional glass of water with the coffee, the answer was that only one glass of water was free. And that at a very proud pricing. Not exactly a friendly approach, it's a shame.

Everything was very nice and delicious but the waiter tricked us. We went for breakfast on Thursday March 7th around 10am. We had seen that there was an offer on Thursdays and Fridays for breakfasts at CHF 6.50. We had coffees and croissants. When we asked for the bill he told us that we could only pay by card, very unusual in a city like Bern. Then they didn't give us a ticket, we had to ask for it. And the bill did not include the offer so instead of paying 26CHF which were the 4 breakfasts, he charged us 36.70. When we demanded the money that he had overcharged us, he told us that he could not cancel the sale and that he would give us some coffees in exchange, we did not accept it and since we could not find what else to do, he gave us a few miserably pieces of cake... It's a shame, I'm sure he did it on purpose and I'm sure you can pay in cash but it was a way to scam us. Don't go!

Extremely unfriendly welcome. Absolutely delicious cake and worth the price. Coffee much too small for its price. So I don't know what to think of this place! It's small but cute.

Went to JUL with my partner and it was so incredibly good! Clear recommendation from me! I had an avocado toasties burrata which was really different and my partner had the gorilla cake, you could really taste that it was homemade! And then I treated myself to another Helene... it was very tasty!

If you haven't been to JUL yet, you've definitely missed something. It's definitely one of my TOP favorites today when I want to have brunch, or prefer a small snack or just want to drink a hot ginger or cappuccino. I haven't gotten through the whole menu yet, but I'm sure everything is excellent. My absolute favorites: Avocado Toste Burrata, Yaki Gyoza, Milos Breakfest

Small but AWESOME! Rarely have I been so convinced by a small bistro. Whether breakfast, aperitif and snack or just like that - highly recommended! Service is super pleasant, food heavenly and ambience great🩷

Cool cafe, great ambience, and service in the old town. Small menu, but great quality. Brunch platter was a nice selection of cheeses, salmon, bread granola, and great coffee. Will definitely return.

Very tasty food and friendly staff!

We were able to enjoy a wonderful fondue here last night. Both the cheese and the bread tasted great! It was one of the best fondues I've ever tasted. You can probably only enjoy the fondue outside due to the odor emissions. But bottles and blankets were distributed against the cold, which meant we were able to enjoy the food despite the winter temperatures. The polite and relaxed attitude of the staff is also worth mentioning. I can highly recommend this restaurant (even in cold temperatures). Please note: The fondue is generally only available upon prior reservation.

I recently went to a stopover with you and then moved on. Came across you by chance and I have to say really delicious food, especially the burgers were really well made, juicy with a perfect bite. Afterwards enjoyed a delicious cocktail, full and satisfied 😋👌

Super nice team and an idyllic place to dine in Bern! We were warmly welcomed and the food came quickly. Even though it was a little more expensive, it was definitely worth it, as I'm always happy to pay more for quality... We'll definitely be back!!!

We were there for breakfast. Both the scones and the overnight oats were delicious. I can only say positive things about the service. Gladly again sometime!

Discovered by chance while on vacation. My girlfriend and I immediately felt comfortable. A very tasty meal and a cocktail at the end. Super nice and competent staff and I'm happy to pay a little more for good quality. Conclusion: If I ever happen to be in Bern again, I would be happy to be a guest here again at any time.

We came to Bern from Germany for a few days and came across this restaurant by chance. The Pura Vida Toast was simply amazing🤤 the service also recommended a fine wine and was always extremely attentive. 10/10 we will definitely go again next time we visit Bern.

Attention: Atmosphere tempting - but exorbitant prices and treatment of guests unacceptable We order drinks and an aperitif plate. After a swim in the Aare, we enjoy the nice ambience in the arbor. We want to pay in cash and the very nice Cuban service employee regretfully informs us that he is not allowed to accept cash. We consciously decided not to take our cell phone or credit card with us in the swimming bag. The boss comes, we hold out the cash to him, but he refuses to accept it. We are shocked by his baseless, threatening way of rejecting the money with the explanation that he has no time for discussions and that it was our problem if we had not seen the note about cashless payment on the cards. We ask for a constructive solution, e.g. an invoice, and are rejected again. We, a couple of retirement age living in Bern, find ourselves in a stalemate with the extremely arrogant boss, whereupon we ask him to call the police. Only then does he allow us to go home to get an electronic payment method and pay him for the consumption that same evening. This innkeeper, a long-established Bernese, son of the horse butcher Grunder on Rathausgasse, is doing enormous damage to the gastronomic image in Bern's old town with this behavior. A number of other reviews testify to this. Fairness would mean that customers are informed with every order that cash is refused as payment in this restaurant. Clearly visible multilingual information boards for the outdoor and indoor seating would certainly provide clarity in this regard. The development of the gastronomic scene in the old town in this direction is not desirable and we recommend not supporting this restaurant. This feedback is correct and honest. Even a nicely colored statement from the owner doesn't change our negative experience.

Everything was good until they said you can't pay in cash. Since we are tourists and always only take cash with us. Nobody told us anything that payment is only by card. In the end they threatened to call the police if you didn't pay immediately. To the question: How can we pay if we have a blank card. Answer: Your problems are not my problems, and do whatever you want. The rainfall remained terrible. The most important thing is that we were not even warned or told for it. And since we ordered at the counter and not with the menu, we weren't told a word about it. So 4 stars, but because of this case 0 and an unpleasant sediment as a gift...

We ordered a Moscow Mule for 15.-. A small glass of ginger beer with vodka and lime was served. When asked if there was still cucumber and mint, which is included with the Moscow Mule, they simply said "no, I don't."

This was our second time at JUL for breakfast and we were thrilled by the creative offerings. As a poppy seed fan, I ordered Jul’s Granola and it was really delicious. The combination of coconut and nuts was a real treat. The staff is very attentive and quick, and the atmosphere also invites you to have coffee later. We would be happy to come back.

Very nice atmosphere and great service. A good menu is always one that offers little but dedicated quality food and that's what you get here. Among other things, the best burgers I've had in years. No side dishes and a bit pricey, but so good that you can ignore it.

This is really far from Scandinavian hospitality...We had a reservation for 3 (1 of us is a 2year old) on a Sunday morning. We were there on time, but due to a misunderstanding we had to cancel our reservation. I asked the the boss and he told us it was fine. Later we received an e-mail with an invoice of 90.- no show fee (30.- for each, even for a 2year old!!!) because we have obviously accepted some terms of conditions... This is ridiculous - especially because we were there on time and explained what happened and the boss told us it was fine and did not mention at all that we will have to pay 90.-!!! We will certainly never go back and neither will our family and friends. Sad for them - because they could have made much more money than 90.- with all our recommendations... good luck!

We ordered a coffee outside with a chocolate cake. Firstly, the Americano coffee cost 6.50 plus 50 cents for the milk. The coffee doesn't taste particularly good. The chocolate cake, warm, cost Fr. 13.00. I think this is also a suggestion about exorbitant prices: If a person orders a chocolate cake that is wrapped and looks like a cake, it is important to be made aware that it melts on the inside and is served like a dessert. I'm just soooo so disappointed and will avoid going there again. Although we were kindly given a bed bottle.

It was very nice! We had a fondue outside and a dessert which both tasted very good.

I went there to eat fondue with one of my friends. At first we were a bit skeptical, but Jul served us a delicious and beautiful fondue. Since we were sitting outside, the nice ladies brought us a bed bottle to keep us warm. The white mulled wine was also very tasty. The warm chocolate cake, which wasn't on the menu, makes a nice ending. Definitely underrated!

This restaurant proposes delicious and original dishes in a very cute place. I definitely recommend this place to have a short and healthy lunch.

Came to Jul twice during our stay in Bern and had a wonderful experience both times. The first time, we came for an aperitif before dinner. They have a creative cocktail menu and are clearly innovating in the space. The second time, we came for lunch. The avocado toast was incredibly impressive. I've had so many iterations of avocado toast over the years, but this one really stood out. It was seasoned with different spices in an imaginative way I've never seen before, and the presentation was stunning. They have a lovely outdoor terrace, with different types of tables and chairs. Very pleasant. They are one of the few places in Bern open for lunch on Sundays - highly recommend a visit!

We had reserved a table: we were seated outside, in the rain and the wind. We were wet. Cold reception. Extremely expensive dishes, minimal quantity. No smile, terrible service! Don't go there, money trap! 13.- for a ridiculous piece of cake, 18.- for 2 spoons of oatmeal...! Cold coffee! Never again

I had lunch with 2 guests. Unfortunately we were rudely asked to leave the table of 6 and look for another seat. So far okay. We had to wait quite a long time for our bowl and 2 green salads. However, it tasted good. The philosophy of cashless payment is of course up to each company. However, the arrogance and arrogance of the employee when I wanted to pay “cash” was hard to beat. They could have briefly pointed this out to us when ordering, even if the service man said it was on the menu. My guests and I spoke in English and standard German, so it is clear that we are not regular guests. Not recommended for me.

What a bad experience! We were there for a coffee and a "hot" chocolate. The product had no taste although it was well decorated. That day the place was not very crowded, but the staff was still stressed as F.... Nonetheless, we had to wait a long time to get our drinks. The only positive was the nice location in the old town. Overall, I would not recommend this place. Does the name Jul come from Juul

Love the cafe, beautiful interior design with both indoor and outdoor seatings. Excellent coffee, with amazing gugelhopt, must try it! And it opens on Sunday!

The breakfast is diverse and delicious!

When a mommy whose child has just fallen asleep in the car is served a cappuccino outside opening hours and a slice of plaited bread is on the house - that's true hospitality... and you can also treat yourself to delicious food and drink here.

Been there twice so far and I like it. The coffee is tasty, the wine selection is good and the service is always very friendly. A nice place to stay in Bern's old town (the plants and interior are 👍) What I find less great is the philosophy of exclusively cashless payment.

Ordered 2x Soup with sausages & cheese and a chilli for over CHF 80.- Only the sausages and the chili were delivered - no soup, no cheese. Chili was bland and the portion size was comparable with a Birchermüsli you get from the gas station (it cost CHF 24.-.). lol.

A cute little restaurant with delicious and unusual food and drinks. The tables are small and the space is a bit tight, but you immediately feel comfortable and in good hands in the homely atmosphere with the friendly staff.

Cozy, small and nice. We had a vegan fondue (New Roots) and a normal fondue and they were very tasty. We received a lot of interesting information and input from the boss himself regarding the vegan fondue (New Roots) and other products on offer - very nice and cool, thank you very much. We really enjoyed it and were absolutely satisfied with the easy-going and super friendly handling! Keep it up and good luck!

Charge 4 CHF for a glass of tap water. We didn't check a single certificate the entire evening, even though the restaurant was packed to capacity.

A NAUGHTY WINK IN THE EYE and the friendly service do not justify the completely exorbitant prices. I was there with guests from abroad who were completely appalled by the price/performance ratio. (That's why you can wink at the guest who has been taken advantage of! - and laugh up your sleeve.)

Even after a large order of wine, beer and aperitif plates, a glass of tap water was refused. Would there be tap water with coffee?! I find it very disappointing and won't be coming back. The open beer is too small.

A really nice place with attentive staff. Still, we had to wait almost 30 minutes for our avocado toast. And that at sky-high prices, although the taste didn't make up for it. A pity.

A wonderful place with a lot of warmth and attention to detail. Thanks to the fur, blanket and bed bottle, we were able to sit outside even in cool temperatures. And with wine, coffee and great service, the strenuous work week was far away for a few hours. We look forward to the next visit; for lunch, breakfast or coffee. We enjoyed breakfast in July. The menu offers something for every taste and is very vegan-friendly! The homemade granola, the chocolate spread, the Züpfe, the fresh bread - everything is a dream!!! Since we were the first guests inside, we were treated to a cocktail - thank you very much for that! July will be my new place to be, especially when the temperatures are warmer under the arbors, it is also possible with children as the alley has hardly any traffic.
