A very cozy place, great vibe and kind service

Such a nice vibe in this quaint Cafe! You can tell it's loved be the locals because it was packed on a Sunday morning. I enjoyed the vegan Lox and Bagel and the "Salmon" was spot on for the flavor and texture! You can tell they love this job because it shows in service!

I really enjoy coming to this cafe. The staff is super friendly and I like the cozy atmosphere. The coffee is also excellent.

I had the pleasure of enjoying a wonderful brunch with my partner. We entered the venue at 11am on Saturday morning and were impressed by the already lively atmosphere. Luckily we were able to get the last free table. I chose (Stuffed Joy) a croissant with avocado and scrambled eggs and a flat white while my partner chose the bagel with avocado tartar sauce and fried egg and green tea. Both dishes were very tasty. The croissant was fresh and crispy and the scrambled eggs were nice and creamy. My flat white was good but quite small. My partner's bagel (breakfast bagel) was fresh and she really enjoyed the combination of avocado tartar sauce and fried egg. The green tea was ok. The staff also deserves special mention. Despite the crowds, they were extremely friendly and accommodating. Service was efficient and quick, which helped make our brunch experience even more enjoyable. We're already looking forward to visiting again soon!

A cozy unique little coffee place.

It's actually a nice little coffee shop near Milchbuck. What I've eaten so far has been good and so have the drinks I ordered. Unfortunately, as a “to go” guest you don’t feel particularly welcome. At first you don't really get noticed and you just stand around and wait. The last time I was there, my partner and I stood around for 5 minutes and weren't even greeted. That's not possible in the catering sector, no matter how high the stress is. On my next visit, a day later, the same game again, only I had to wait 7 minutes until someone was comfortable enough to “serve” me. And that even though a woman was standing behind the counter, calmly drying plates. That really ruined my mood to continue visiting the coffee shop. A pity.

Four of us went here! Service was great, atmosphere was cozy and food delish. Portion sizes are quite reasonable. Highly recommend the Shakshuka.

I have been revisiting this place for over a couple of years. I like the atmosphere and the service. But the coffee is not something that I prefer - it is quite bitter, more to the direction of Italian roast, and even a milky choice (cappuccino or flat white) would have a very intense bitter aftertaste. It is a pure preference issue though.

Kafi Freud is a good place to be when it comes to having a nice coffee.

Brunch restaurant between Schaffhauserplatz and Milchbruck. No reservations are accepted and space is allocated on a first come first served basis (this means it is advisable to go before 11:30 a.m. on weekends, as there will be longer queues after that). Staff is very personable, friendly and offers great service. Coffee is good (but strong) and the food is excellent (the bagel is highly recommended here!). One of the top brunch spots in Zurich due to the food, the ambience and the staff!

My absolute favorite cafe! A place to feel good with super friendly staff, great music and easy payment at the counter. The Mocha Chai Latte and the pastries are simply unbeatable ☕️🍫👌🏽 The only wish: a barrier-free entrance. Still the best café in the (wide) area!

Kafi Freud is a friendly coffee neighborhood with a very nice vegan offering. Only on the weekend at brunch does it smell very strongly of the egg dishes to sensitive noses. The staff is always very nice. Why only 3 points, they charge 90 cents more for the vegan milk alternative! A no-go these days. In the neighborhood coffee shop in Wipkingen, for example, they charge zero surcharge. In my opinion, a sustainable lifestyle without animal products should not be “punished”.

Great place for hanging out with friends, comfy atmosphere and nice food.

After visiting a few times, I’ve grown to really enjoy Kafi Freud. It’s warm and comforting, especially on a gray, drizzling Zürich day. There is little better than having a cappuccino and a cinnamon roll to start your day.

I traditionally meet a friend here once or twice a year. Very pleasant, fine food, nice service and a good atmosphere.

Hello, I was asked why “only” four stars. Because we had to wait a little longer. But the other way around, that's a good sign that it's a popular destination. Every time I walk out of Kafi Freud I have a little smile on my face - the service is just so warm! One might think that the staff is primarily hired based on likeability points. You are greeted and farewelled as if it were a visit to an acquaintance, without the artificial "merci, thank you, nice day, blah blah) just warm and authentic. The food so far has been absolutely delicious and the coffee is also very good (all top quality). I'm a little in love with this place - you just feel comfortable here ♥️

Totally loved this place. They don’t take reservations so it’s more a matter of walking in and waiting until a table is free. We arrived at 12:00 and the waiting time was about 10 minutes, so not really and. The atmosphere is unique; really relaxed and alternative. It made me feel super relaxed on a Sunday brunch. The bunch bagel was really good, and so were the pastries. Totally recommend it!

Food was good but a bit overcooked, especially the egg. I assume it was cause it was really busy for a Sunday … since it took some time to also receive the food. The pain au chocolat looked amazing but didn’t meet expectations on fluffiness. But overall… an good, dog-friendly, and family-friendly brunch spot 😊

Coffee was excellent and pastries were very tasty. Brunch leaves a lot to be desired. Hardly seasoned. Very questionable about serving egg dishes unsalted. You have to be a little more confident in the kitchen to season things according to your own taste. Highly recommended for coffee and pastries!

Really nice people and very good coffee. They have a cute space with both indoor and outdoor seating. Very calm atmosphere with many people reading, writing or just having a chat with friends. Would be back to try their brunch

Super cute cafe with the friendliest staff, warm vibes and wifi and place to work/study/read. They ran out of the chocolate croissants so I tried their bread and butter pudding and it was the best I've ever had with bits of chocolate and drizzle of warm Maple syrup. Highly recommend!

Arriving in Zurich well in time, but far too early to cycle to the station, I saw Kafi Freud on top of the last hill. There were already quite a few guests, so we decided to have something to eat and drink, which was an Avocado sandwich, a piece of homemade Banana Bread (with Nuts) and of course a Coffee. Friendly bartender, great food and a great coffee. Later a beer (not Swiss? 🤔) and a homemade lemonade. Was able to sit outside quietly while they were closing and Kraftwerk softly came from the speakers (he was now alone, he could play whatever he wanted 😉) Sanitary facilities were clean & gender neutral. When I left, the bartender asked me if I could refill my water bottle, asking if I wanted some lemon or mint in it, both of which I was happy to do! After a long descent, I reached Zurich HBF in plenty of time, and the water tasted wonderfully refreshing at night!

Good food and coffee, with high quality ingredients. Can get quite overcrowded on weekends.

The filled croissant was really tasty. I can only recommend it. The service was friendly, helpful and you didn't have to wait long. The map isn't huge but it has just the right amount.

Coffee and juice were excellent, the overall atmosphere was very welcoming. Unluckily, I ate the driest and most expensive omelette of my life. Will be back just for coffee.

Great spot for having breakfast. We ordered the shakshoka , the croissant with avocado and the oatmeal bowl. It was delicious. The atmosphere was amazing. The outdoor seating area was great.

I have been to Kafi Freud many times before and I specially enjoy their coffee and food. I can't say the same about my last visit though, where we ordered standard drinks (Aperol Spritz and Hugo) and they were way below average. Actually, I can't remember having such bad drinks, ever. They both tasted like bad quality soft drinks.

Great cafe. Both the coffee and the food are very good. It is usually very crowded and it is not uncommon for people to queue at the entrance.

Nice coffee place to work or study

Our favorite breakfast place in the neighbourhood. One of the best pain au chocolat in Zurich but also good coffee and choice of cakes. Savoury options are also delicious, we recommend the bagel, eggs with avocado or shakshouka. The waiters are always nice and you can stay as long as you like talking or with a book/computer. Weekends it tends to be more busy but the wait is worth it.

The atmosphere is nice, but the service in the weekend is slow and chaotic. I was there two times and once we waited too much, the other they confused an order. The food is good but nothing special.

One of the best cafes to study in zurich. The corissiants are 10/10 . Vegan croissants are great. Wished they had vegan croissants with very dark chocolate inside tho.

Just horrible and overpriced food. I really didn't expect something like that and now I see all the great reviews here. This is a bad joke! If I could give zero stars I would. I had mashed potatoes with lentil meatloaf. The mash was ok, not particularly fine and had lumps, but it was edible but there was also extremely little. About 2 tablespoons full. The vegan meatloaf was a completely over-seasoned burnt hard lentil mocktail that didn't taste good and was also sour to me. There were also (without understating!) exactly 3 lettuce leaves as a vegetable side dish. And the whole thing cost 18 CHF. Service also very questionable. I asked if I could have it as take out because I wanted to eat in the nearby Irchelpark. There was no cutlery... (luckily I still had a spoon with me). Afterwards I wasn't full at all and I even felt sick from the burnt and over-seasoned lentil mockery. No more! The university cafeteria, on the other hand, is just a star restaurant. And cheaper.

The coffee and food is incredibly fine and the staff is also very friendly. I can only rave about the oat cappuccino, the bagels and the “filled joy” croissant. Unfortunately, I can't recommend the Sunday brunch very much. Apart from the fact that the prices are far too high and we had to wait a long time for a table (which would be understandable), we were completely ignored. We waited at the table for at least 40 minutes until we could finally order and had pointed this out to the server several times... By the time the food finally came, about an hour had already passed and it was also more than full and very loud inside .

Lovely atmosphere, one of the nicest cafés in the area. Very laid back, and the coffee is delicious, so is the scrambled egg and the fresh House bread is incredible... Highly recommended the Flat White! The staff are friendly and clearly enjoy their jobs. Would always pop in when passing.

I've been there several times now and it remains a lovely coffee shop with a lot of charm and a good range of food and drinks (excellent coffee, Henauer beans). Usually very well attended - go early (<9:00am)!

We visited Kafi Freud on a Saturday morning for a little brunch for two. We were particularly impressed by the fresh and vegan dishes. While initially not all tables were occupied and the volume in the room was still pleasant, after 11 a.m. it became too loud for me and we left the restaurant. The service was very friendly and a little more attentive at the beginning than towards the end. Unfortunately, as the number of visitors in the restaurant increased, it felt colder and colder. We would be happy to come back when the restaurant is not as busy.

Perfectly cooked traditional shakshuka, good flat white and plum cake. It was completely worth waiting 15 minutes for a table.

The food was ok but not wow. We had to wait about half an hour without a reservation. The service is a bit slow and not self-initiated. You may also have to wait a while for your bill.

Friendly coffee shop, that offered to make me gluten-free brunch. I had a Shak Shukka and they added tahini to the dish which was great. They also made me a chai latte with lactose-free milk. Great! The only reason there isn’t 5 stars is because two outside tables had smokers and one was smoking right beside me and the smoke and the ashes from the ash tray were blowing towards me and it made it an unpleasant experience so I rushed my food and then left. Sadly this is not uncommon in Switzerland but a dedicated smokers area outside would be better I think.

First of all, the Kafi Freud shop is expensive but very tasty and fresh and the staff is super friendly. We both had an excellent breakfast with two latte machiatto each. The staff is very courteous and quick too. Of course we paid 50 chf for breakfast but it was still ok We will come back. Highly recommended Ps.: depending on what time you have to wait for a table

Very nice hipster café with friendly service and lots of homemade products. You can even take the coffee grounds home with you for free with a few tips on how to use them :)

I live in the area and am pleased with the fine offerings. The staff is nice, the atmosphere is comfortable and the food is good. However, I only afford this once a month - the prices are very high even for Zurich. A croissant with eggs and avocado and cress for 18 francs, something that you don't or can't treat yourself to every day.
